Anyway to set Nano 2g to show item in iTunes Libary...

I use my Nano 8gb 2g mostly for Audiobooks (from Audible.com).
I have several other MP3 players (Sandisk Sensa M260 & several Creative Lab models)
On the other brand players, when I load a book onto them it also puts a check mark next to that title on my Audible Manager program. This makes it easy to see what you have loaded & not loaded on your player.
My question is:
Can the ipod be set to do the same thing in iTunes i.e.->When I click on 'LIBARY' show what items in that libary are loaded on my Nano??
Thank you for any help you can give me. . .

Hey sturgisrun,

Sure!
What you need is a Smart Playlist.
Create one using File>New Smart Playlist
Then set option to Comment field > contains > on iPod.
Make sure live updating is checked.
Next, add comments to multiple items (songs, audiobooks, etc
On PC use the control key to select multiple items
On the Mac, use Apple (a.k.a "Command") key
Then from the File menu choose "Get Info"
At the prompt: Are you sure you want to edit information for multiple items? click yes
Add a comment to the comment field, same thing you entered for Smart Playlist
You are done. Now click on the smart playlist, it should contain all items with on iPod in comments field.
Someone may have created a program that automates this, but, I think this may be helpful to you as a start.
Hope this helps,
Generik

  • After using apple hi-fi spkrs, ProductRed 8g nano doesn't show up in itunes

My product red 8 gig nano has been working well for nearly 2 mos. Then on Saturday I bought the apple hi-fi speakers.
Sounded great but when I went to add music today in Itunes 7, my nano no longer shows up in the navigation pane.
I can still play music and my nano seems to be charging fine in the universal dock, but aggravating to be unable to add music, sync contacts, etc.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Hey there-thanks for the feedback My nano isn't showing up in itunes or my computer. Also checked the device manager and it isn't showing up there either.
My thought is that since it stopped working right after using the hi fi speakers once, the dock in the hi fi speakers may have damaged the nano's hardware.
Note, nano still plays both on its own and in the new speakers, just can't add tunes-argh!

  • No Nano - does not show up in ITunes or MY Computer

I'm new to the IPOD and have had the Nano 1 week of which I spent 6 days trying to figure out why it wouldn't show up in ITunes.
Solution - Eliminated extra drive assignments. I had used all the drive letter assignments from E: up to T: and had to remove the E: assignment so the Nano could use it.
More info - The first time I plugged the Nano in it worked great. I loaded music onto it that I had previously stored and was able to listen and play it.
So I decided to add more music from my CD collection.
I removed the 3.5" floppy drive from the laptop and inserted the CD reader.
!! That was the critical change because now the CD reader became D: drive which the Ipod had been using previously (I'm assuming, I never actually checked until it wouldn't work).
After that I spent days trying to figure out why the Nano would no longer show up in ITunes. See details below:
    What I've Tried:
    1st Use:
    Windows XP 2002 SP1
    Had Itunes already on PC
Charged Nano for a few hours until battery indicated full charge
Plugged in 1st time, loaded Nano with tunes, no issues.
    Played music for awhile
    2nd Use:
Swapped 3.5" Floppy drive for CD ROM drive
    Added more music from CD's
    Plugged in Nano
    ITunes opens up automatically
    Nano not shown in ITunes
Nano not shown on My Computer
Checked USB H/W configuration - shows IPOD connected
Nano is charging, indicates "Do Not Disconnect"
    Disconnect Nano
    Shut down, Restart PC
    Reconnect Nano
    No change - no Nano
Swapped USB Ports, no change - no Nano
    Disconnect Nano
    Reset Nano
    Reconnect Nano
    No change - no Nano
    Disconnect Nano
    Remove Itunes
    Reload Itunes from CD-ROM,
Connect Nano when prompted by installation program but apparently doesn't recognize Nano is connected
Installation gets stuck (45+ min) trying to "Format" Nano (Nano doesn't respond)
Skip to next part of installation
    Shutdown, Restart PC
    Reconnect Nano
    No change - no Nano
    Disconnect Nano
    Remove Itunes
    Reload Itunes from CD-ROM
Installation gets stuck again trying to "Format" Nano (Nano doesn't respond)
Skip to next part of installation
Set USB Drivers configuration to not disable power to USB port
    Shutdown, Restart PC
    Reconnect Nano
    No change - no Nano
    Shutdown, Restart PC
    Remove Itunes
    Shutdown, Restart PC
    Reload Itunes from CD-ROM
Skip connecting Nano as part of installation
    Shutdown, Restart PC
Run Ipod Updater 2005-09-06 program before plugging in Nano
    Connect Nano
    Restore software on Nano
    Nano Restores itself
    Nano indicates "Do not Disconnnect"
    ITunes opens up automatically
Nano still not shown in ITunes
Nano still not shown in My Computer
Checked System\hardware\device manager\USB Mass Storage Device indicates says "Location 0 (Ipod)" and device is working properly
    Unplug Nano
Swapped CD ROM with 3.5" Floppy drive
    Reboot PC
    Connect Nano
    Battery is already fully charged
Noticed little timer thingy in upper left of Nano spinning around, probably always did it but this is first time I noticed it.
    ITunes Opens
Nano still not shown in ITunes
Nano still not shown in My Computer
Nano shows up as USB Mass Storage Device under Safely Remove Hardware
Final solution - free up drive assignment E: so Nano can use it.

Glad you figured it out, but wow does that all make me glad I have a Mac!

  • IPod nano 3rd generation showing up in ITunes but will not synch

I created new playlists in iTunes about 2 months ago and they synched to my Nano with no problems.  I created a new playlist yesterday, plugged in the Nano via a USB and I can't get iTunes to synch with Nano.  So the current playlists on it do not show up in iTunes and vice versa.  I do have the latest version of iTunes installed

If your country's iTunes Store allows you to redownload purchased tracks, I'd delete your current copies of the dodgy tracks and try redownloading fresh copies. For instructions, see the following document:
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store
Otherwise, I'd report the problem to the iTunes Store.
Log in to the Store. Click on "Account" in your Quick Links. When you're in your Account information screen, go down to Purchase History and click "See all".
Find the items that are not playing properly. If you can't see "Report a Problem" next to the items, click the "Report a problem" button. Now click the "Report a Problem" links next to the items.

  • Nano intermittently not showing up in iTunes with 12:00 AM Time in Title

After I updated my 2GB Nano with Updater 2006-01-10 from my eMac running MacOS 10.3.9 and iTunes 6.0.2 using USB, it ran for a while, but then it got hung and I had to restore it. Since then, it is intermittently not showing up in iTunes or on the desktop when I plug it in, even though the iPod shows the do not disconnect message. I have enabled the "Time in Title" setting to display the time in the title bar and when the iPod does not appear on the desktop, the time displayed is 12:00 AM. The iPod is not in disk mode.
Does anyone else see this problem?
eMac   Mac OS X (10.3.9)   iPod Nano 2GB Version 1.1

From iPod doesn't appear in iTunes or on the Mac desktop:
"Your iPod has a faulty port
Make sure that nothing is in or blocking the Dock Connector or FireWire port on your iPod.
Check the connection to make sure the Dock Connector or FireWire cable is completely plugged in."
Since the Nano is USB-only, I am not sure that this applies, but there was a piece of fuzz in the Nano's port for the USB cable. It has been removed. Now I will wait and see if the intermittent problem with the Nano not appearing in iTunes goes away.

  • IPod nano won't show up on iTunes

I got a new iPod nano 4GB (3G) last week and it worked fine for a while. Yesterday, I installed a new DVD burner and drivers (Memorex) in my computer and now, my iPod won't show up on iTunes. It says: "The software required for communicating with the iPod is not installed correctly. Please reinstall iTunes to install the iPod's software."
I unistalled iTunes, QuickTime, Apple Software Update, iPodService, Safari, and anything Apple from my computer and installed them into different folders. However, I'm still getting this problem even after multiple reinstalls AND system restore. Can anyone help me? Thanks in advance for your help!

Hey yall, at one point I had this problem and tryed these things>>> Try putting the white cord into a different USB port.(make sure that it is not dusty(blow in it to clear it out)). The day I got my ipod nano my computer had been on and would do it(very slow) so try restarting computer and then different USB port. You may also try resetting your iPod nano if you cant fix it. To reset turn hold switch on and then off and then hold the center butten and the MENU butten together for 6 to 10 sec. Hope this helps! Let me know!

Just like above. The history is
An old ipod (4, 5th generation)
A few months ago my friend tried to sync it to her windows computer and had to erase all music (it's been compatible to mac always before) but then she could't put in any new music either.
Then it's just been laying around uncharged.
Now I try to sync it to my new macbook pro (itunes 1.11) but it doesnt show up in itunes. When i plug it in itunes show up over all the other programs but i cant find the ipod in it. In finder it's just a device with "NO NAME"
i don't know how to fix this, please help me!

    Hello Solverlona,
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities!
It sounds like your iPod Nano is not recognized correctly in iTunes, but is recognized in Finder but seems to be seen as a storage device.
First, I would start with the iPod 5rs for your model iPod Nano
    http://www.apple.com/support/ipod/five_rs/
I would next try the steps outlined in this Troubleshooting Assistant if the above steps do not fix the issue:

  • A tip for when your 3Gen Nano does not show up in iTunes:

This was happening to me, running 10.4.10 on both my old G3 iMac and my iBook, both with iTunes 7.5. I could not figure it out. Turns out, probably like many people, we have about 7 iPod cables lying around the house. I had picked a Firewire cable... everything was back to normal when I used the USB cable! (Although on the iMac it says synching will be slow because it's USB 1, the iBook with USB 2 is faster). Phew!

Cable works fine on my other iPod. Reset by pressing menu and center button together for 6-10 seconds. Left it to charge for many hours. Started acting up while running. Suddenly the music stopped playing but my Nike + was still working for the rest of my run. Took it straight it home and plugged it in to the wall to recharge since the battery was fairly low. Looked like it recharged ok but then screen went blank and now does it not show up on iTunes, does not seem to recharge by the wall charger (apple wall charger plugged into a surge protector in India). I have turned the hold switch off and on many times.
Sounds like a repair issue, which is not easy to do in India :(

  • My 6th gen Ipod nano does not show up in Itunes or in My Computer

I do not think that this is a problem with my computer because I own an older 5th gen nano and have never had problems with it before. Both my computer and Itunes has no problem seeing the older Ipod right now. I have followed the troubleshooting guides and I'm still stumped on why my new Ipod won't appear. I've read several disscussions and haven't found the fix yet. My newer Ipod has been connected to another computer before but I don't know whether it was a Mac or a PC, and I believe that is the problem. I was thinking maybe it would help if I completely reset my Ipod, I don't mind losing any music, but I have no idea how to if I can't connect it to my computer. Please tell me how to reset it to facory settings or if you think that something else will work I'm completely willing to try that too. Thank you.

    Thanks for a reply
The cable that I'm using came with my 5th gen nano. The 6th gen Ipod shows that it's connected but the computer doesn't see it, so I don't think that it's the cable.
I did try this before when looking at the troubleshooting guide and nothing happens. It just resets and then the Ipod screen tells me that it's connected to the computer. It still is unseen by Itunes and no where to be found in my computer.
I don't have another computer to plug it into at the moment but I may be able to visit a friend that owns a decent PC in a few days. If that doesn't work out I will be getting a new lap top in a week and I'm hoping that it will work on that, but it won't be a Mac. So, let's say it works when I plug it into one of these computers, should I reset my Ipod from there or is there something else I should do?

  • My 6th generation nano does not show in the iTunes window.

When I open iTunes my nano does not appear in the library window and my computer does not recognize the device, so it's also not synching. My library is intact and I've updated both the iTunes software and downloaded updates for Windows 7.  I even uninstalled and re-install iTunees.
The only thing I haven't done is changed cords.  I'm using the cord from a 1st generation ipod.  I received the 6th generation ipod as part of Apple's replacement program.
Everything worked fine the last time I synched a few months ago and when I recharged the ipod last month.
Does anyone have additional tips to fix this?

I tried all this, I mean should I reset all setting?
Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    that is restart.

  • My ipod nano does not show in my itunes

An ipod has been detected but it could not be indentified

For anyone else having this problem, I found this solution to work. Try this first:
    a) Get Windows to restart the drivers:
        - disconnect your USB device and close ITunes
        - connect your USB device
        - if ITunes loads, close it.
    b) File explorer:
Open File explorer and browse to
    C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple\Mobile Device Support\Drivers
In that folder there should be a set of files named "usbaapl64...."
right click on the one ending in "INF"
    Select Install.  It's very quick.
    remove the USB device
    c) Restart the computer.
When you login again, load ITunes before you attach your USB device.
d)If you just want to add some photos, songs and movies from computer to your devices, you can use an iTunes alternative to do the job.
    f) If still not works, try re-install iTunes. Go into the Unstall Programs (in Control Panel) and uninstall everything that says Apple, and uninstall Bonjour. With the fresh
install of iTunes, everything came back and is should work. Hope it helps.
