Anyway to speed up vsl sample installs?

hello all,
i have installed the dvds of vsl samples and instruments from the opus 1&2 set and am now test driving some of the sounds. i was aware that, the first time i use any of the samples, "links" needed to be created between the samples and the exs24 and that this process takes a few minutes to happen. each sample has taken 15-30 minutes to load the audio files, one bass clarinet sample took 40 minutes.
now, the samples i have heard are sound so great that i don't consider this a problem, but do i need to head out to blockbuster and rent ben-hur, lord of the rings, and all three godfathers to pass the time.
any ideas, i'd rather not see godfather part 3.

No, where you've stored them is right. I just wanted to make sure you hadn't stored them in the sampler instruments folder, where the .exs files reside.
You didn't put an alias of that external hard drive inside the sampler instruments folder, did you?
Also, there's a third party tool called Redmatica EXS manager, that I would highly recommend as you sampler library grows in size. It can link thousands of instruments in a matter of minutes, and speeds up load times generally, all the way around.
And while that would probably fix this for you, this still shouldn't be happening...

  • NEED PARAMETER PASSING SAMPLE INSTALLATION ZIP FILE...

    Hello All,
    I was viewing the following page:
    http://portalstudio.oracle.com/pls/ops/docs/FOLDER/COMMUNITY/PDK/
    articles/guidelines.parameter.passing.html
    Near the end of the page it reads, "For a detailed PL/SQL portlet
    sample, see the Parameter Passing sample included in the PL/SQL
    section including the Parameter Passing Sample Installation
    article and check out the source code in the downloadable zip
    file."
    The phrase "downloadable zip" near the end of this line is a link
    that is supposed to provide you with the zip file. When I click
    on this link I get the file to save as sample.zip. Files get
    downloaded but when I try to unzip it,
    I encounter error messages :
    Missing 1 bytes in Zip file (attempting to process anyway).
    Cannot open file: it does not appear to be a valid archive.
    If you downloaded this file, try downloading the file again.

    let say i have a code as below:
    public void init()
          String rootDirectory = JOptionPane.showInputDialog( this,
             "Please enter a directory name:" );
          FileTreePanel panel = new FileTreePanel( rootDirectory );
          getContentPane().add( panel );
       }and i use this code to call the batch file:
    import java.io.IOException;
    public class callbatch{
         public static void main(String args[]) {
              try {
                   Runtime runtime=Runtime.getRuntime();
                   Process process=runtime.exec("cmd /c start callnvcc.bat");
                   catch(IOException ioe) {
                        System.out.println(ioe);
         }how can i pass the rootDirectory into my callnvcc.bat?

  • How do i determine the speed of a sample

    I want to know if there is a way to determine the speed of a sample that i want to match in logic.

    Eriksimon wrote:
    A loop is not a sample, though a sample can be looped, in which case one can call it a looped sample. What would a sampled loop be? The recording of a piece of a loop that is playing?
    A Loop would be a phrase.
    A sample would be a single note.
    Just to avoid a futile debate: yes, in the broad (semantic) sense a sample can be a loop too.
    These are not laws (I think), but customs.
    I think your customs regarding samples and "sampling" are stuck in 1982 hip-hop.
    To further muddy the waters: Almost any non-percussive sample played via a keyboard (remember when "samplers" used to be keyboards?) is also looped at some point.

  • Anyway to speed up using a P2P program?

    When using a P2P program, the download speeds are incredibly slow.
    When downloading files off my browser, I can get around 130 kbs. When using P2P, I'm lucky to get 20 kbs. Is there anyway to speed this up? I'm using a WRT54G router.

    What router and version is it?
    What P2P do you use?
    It also depends how many peers you're connected to.... I range anywhere from 5kbs to 500kbs.  I assume you have forwarded the correct port?  Did you set a speed limit in the P2P program setup?

  • Wan speed in distributed SAP installations

    Dear experts,
    development / tests system and production/simulation systems are geographically located in different places and hence the /usr/sap/trans is located at the production systems.
    In this case what should be the Wan speed recommended in distributed SAP installation for the NFS mount?
    Is there a note, document or tool to evaluate the architecture?
    Regards,
    Chidu

    I don't know any documentation regarding this, as it's highly dependent on your usage profile of data interchange between the systems. Consider the load of following maintenance activities (list is not complete): pure transport load, client copies (RFC or TMS), system copies (backup/restore infrastructure), support packages, upgrades, connection to central systems (SLD, SolMan, Portal).
    Due to this generally I would not advise to separate systems of one landscape into several datacenters without proper reason.
    On the other side if you have to do so, I think /usr/sap/trans will not make any problems with midsize enterprise WAN connection (>= 2MBit sync.). But you will have to bear in mind that connection could be slower if you need to transfer more date (e.g. syscopy from P to Q). Best will be : set it up, test it, and for the case that there will be any problems save the possibility to enhance bandwidth afterwards.

  • Oracle9ias and PSP Sample Installation

    I have installed the standard Edition of Oracle9ias on one Solaris server and I have Oracle 8.1.6 on another Solaris server. In the HelloWorld PSP Installation I have two questions:
    1) What does step number 2 mean, which states; "Update your SYSTEM path to include the $IAS_HOME/bin directory." What is SYSTEM? An account on my DB server or 9ias server? And does $IAS_HOME/bin environment variable represents the 9ias $ORACLE_HOME?
    2) For just PL/SQL samples, do I need the PORTAL? I ask this only that I tried to install it in the DB 8.1.6 server, but it failed due to JAVA options not loaded. I looked out on the METALINK and learned that PORTAL does not support 8.1.6.
    Appreciate your help....

    Please check my answers in the other post that you have made.

  • Apple Mouse Slow - Anyway to speed up the tracking?

    I've been using a Mighty Mouse for a while which is fine, but one thing that annoys me is that its quite slow tracking across the screen with the tracking on FULL fastest..
    I have a nice small nifty PC mouse, which on a Windows machine is very nifty and quick, and its USB but when plugged into the Mac, it again becomes quite sluggish..
    As the mouse is the main interaction between me and the computer, is there any other setting in order to speed this up?
    I have this quite fast on an XP PC, and enhanced pointer position on, and its quite nifty getting alot of things done, and moved around.
    I would love to use this PC mouse (I know, not ideal) with my MBP for the best of both worlds. I did try a Magic Mouse which looks good, but it felt the same.
    I just wanted to know if there was

  • Anyway to speed up wireless mighty mouse tracking??

    i finally made the plunge and added a WMM to my dual G5 2.5MHz. I love the wireless part and will likely add the keyboard later. The biggest problem I'm having is that tracking is slow. Not jumpy like other folks are experiencing, just slow. I've got the older 23" Cinema HD monitor and I prefer a large movement of the pointer to a small input of the mouse. I've got the tracking speed maxed out on the control panel. Any way to make it faster? thanks.

    Thank you very much for your help - it is exactly as you describe:
    A login / logout is needed for the changes to take effect (and I'm embarrassed I didn't think of that myself!), and then any subsequent changes in the Keyboard/Mouse pref pane overwrite this, so you have to re-edit the plist and logout and back in again.
    Many thanks!
    EDIT: I wanted to mark this as "solved", but can't. I'm guessing its cos I didn't ask the original question...

  • Anyway to speed up export?

    I love the results I get from Lightroom 4, my only problem is that sometimes I need to export a large group of photos as fast as possible. Client want me to supply photos to press and social media, and the process is extremely slow, is there anyway that I can do it faster?

    That makes some sense.
    Here's a readout from Windows performance monitor (one of the many monitoring tools in Windows that I'm not really familiar with), which I managed to get to show CPU, disk activity and RAM usage during a large export:
    Note that disk activity (green) picks up when the CPU idles, so running two exports simultaneously could perhaps utilize both more efficiently.
    This is a quad i5-750, rather modest by today's standards, so all four cores are pegged at 100% a lot of the time. That doesn't happen with a newer/faster CPU.
    But RAM is rock steady at around 4GB (the machine has 16).

    can you tell me if its possible to speed up unlocking process. i`ve contacted vodafone and they have sent request.

    No. It takes them as long as it takes them. They will send you an SMS when it's ready to plug into iTunes to complete the process.

  • Fast speed TTL signal sampling

    Hi,
    I am a beginner of Labview. Currently we are facing a new project that i believe fast data acquisition is the key point. If someone could give some guidance I would be greatly appreciated.
    Board: AT-MIO-16E1
    Signals: A series of TTL signals generated by an avalanche photodiode, 30 nanoseconds in width, the frequency of the occurence of signals could be as high as 10MHz.
    Objective: Counting the number of TTL signals during a certain period of time, (form microseconds to milliseconds) store it somewhere, and repeat the counting and storing precedure for lots of cycles as many as the hardware allows.
    Questions:
    1. Is this a project for the board and Labview software?
    2. As we imaging, there will be some deadtime tween th
    e periods that the signals are being counted. Could we minimize the deadtime to a insignifcant value? (like 5% of the counting time?)
    3. If it could be done by Labview, is there any additioal hardware we need to purchase? E.g. a board that provides gating signals.
    4. Is there any exsisting examples we can copy?
    Thank you,
    Gufeng

    Being a long time user of the E1 boards myself, I would say that you MAY be able to do this. As I don't have the specs handy right now, I can suggest a means by which to come up with the solution for yourself:
    Check the specs of the board. You are looking for the specs for the DAQ STC timer portion, as you want to do counting operations, not data acquisition. I don't remember if the DAQ STC on the E1 can handle 10MHz. If it doesn't, stop there, and get your NI Catalog and look for one of the newer boards with the advanced timing chips, I believe these can handle it. If the E1 can handle it, go on from there. Create a timing diagram for yourself, to get a visual picture of what you need. Then determine what gating and triggering you need. There are numerous
    examples in the sample programs database in LabVIEW for counting. These should point you in the right direction.
    Good luck

  • Anyway to speed up the response time of E62/E61?

    I bought the E62 and found it is considerably slower than most smart phones specially when compared with Blackberry andsets. It really takes a while to open the mails or applications/folders.
    Is there any way we can improve the response time for E62?

    You aren't by any chance calling a function in your repeating frame that in turn goes back and queries the database, are you? If so ... don't. We regularly do 500+ page PDF-file reports, and one thing we discovered early on was that repeatedly going back to the database while generating the report output (in our case, in calculations that were being done on each line of a report) slowed the output down by an order of magnitude. Instead, we now retrieve all the data needed for each report up front (via functions or views called in the initial SQL for the report), and just use Reports to format the output. MUUUUUUUCH faster -- 200 page reports that used to take 15 minutes to complete now complete in just seconds.
    One way you can visually see if this is part of your problem is to watch the report execute in the Report Queue Manager application. If it spends all its time on the "Opening" stage then breezes through each page, this is not your problem. If instead it seems to take a long time generating each page, I'd suspect that this may be at least part of your delay.

  • Is there anyway to speed up encoding/burn process?

    It's been 3 hours and only 13% encoded.
    A thuderstorm is moving in and I may have to quit.

    To give you an idea, I will share a little story:
    I was handed a Project, where the client said that the WMV's were the ONLY available source files (not too different from the DivX one, on the machine now). I begged for the originals, and pointed out that the WMV's were heavily compressed, and if we could ONLY go to the originals, all would be much, much better. The client did not want to look around his company, so I was instructed to use the WMV's. In a fit of pique, I just Imported the 4 WMV's, added the Titles, did some simple cuts, and then Exported. This was on my workstation, which is still very fast. It was taking forever. After about an hour into the Export, I loaded up the WMV's onto the laptop, converted them to DV-AVI Type II's, Imported them into a New Project, did the same Titles, the same cuts and then Exported. The one on the laptop, though started much later, and that had the time to convert, finished 3 hours ahead of the WMV's on the workstation. I learned to not break my own rules of "Always Convert," and ended up with a bit of a benchmark.
    Whether there will be THAT big a difference with your DivX files, I cannot say. Also, I was Exporting to DV-AVI, so that would be quicker, than MPEG-2, the format/CODEC needed for DVD. Still, there was about a 5 hour difference, considering all that had to be redone in the second version.
    Good luck, and hope that the story did not bore you to tears...
    Hunt
    PS - I was also using PrPro on the workstation, and had to use PrE on the laptop, so as to not violate the EULA of having two instances of PrPro runnng at the same time. PrPro is a tad faster, than PrE, but they are very close.
