Anyway to transfer files between iPod & Mac without using iTunes or WiFi?

I need a way to transfer files to and from my iPod touch without having to sync to iTunes, and without using WiFi.
Something like Bluetooth would be ideal, except it only seems to work with other iOS 5 devices for some reason
I've seen various apps that seem to do it, but they all require iTunes sync.
I cannot sync to iTunes as they don't make a compatible version that will work on my PPC G5.
Please advise, thanks.

A G5 PowerMac can run OS X 10.5.8, which is capable of running the latest version of iTunes.  So if necessary update your system to Leopard or the correct incremental update of Leopard (if you are already on 10.5).
EDIT: Sorry Philly_Phan.. this was intended for the OP.

Is there a way to copy or back up contacts from my Ipod touch without using Itunes?

Are you sure that you can transfer contacts from the iPod to Skydrive?
I would try the links that I previusly provided and try to get iTunes to see the iPOd so you can do everthing right.
If you find a computer that can see the iPOd yu can update the iPod on that computer.  See:
iOS 5: Updating your device to iOS 5
Yu can make that your suncing computer by -
    - Transfering iTunes purchases:
iTunes Store: Transferring purchases from your iPhone, iPad, or iPod to a computer
    - Connect the iPod and make a backup by right clicking on the iPOd under Dvices in iTunes and select Back Up
    - Restore from that backup. That will also update the iPod.

  • I have a iphone 4 with no SIM trey hole. Is there anyway i can get the serial number without using itunes?

I have a iphone 4 with no SIM trey hole. Is there anyway i can get the serial number without using itunes? My iphone is disabled and will not connect to my computer because it is locked.

Why do you need the serial number? You could get it if you'd ever synced it to that copy of iTunes before, but I'm guessing that's not the case.  You need to put the phone into recovery mode and restore it if it's disabled now. There really isn't any other choice.

  • How to transfer files between two Macs via Firewire cable?

I heard you can transfer selected files between two Macs running Tiger. I'm not talking about setting up a new Mac w. files from an older one, if that's different? Can someone enlighten me on this or point me to a "how-to" link? Thanks.

Yes, you pretty much just drag and drop or copy and paste depending on which way you like better. It is pretty much like connecting an external hard drive. Just find the files you want and copy them over to your other computer.
This is one of my favorite features from Macs. It's very simple to do and because it's Firewire even large files transfer over very quickly.

  • Fastest way to transfer files between remote macs?

My brother and I share folders and various file types through ichat at the moment, but it's so slow, we are both on pretty fast networks (35/35MB and 50/8MB) i can mount a folder of his on my mac (we are in seperate towns) by putting our apple ID's into the apple extreme section (i think back to my mac) and we can share files that way, but im confused as to why the transfer rates are so slow, we get at best 32KBs. does anyone have any recommendations for a faster file transfer method between remote macs. Thank You.
P.s. as a joke i always say that the rate is so slow because i'm on Cablevision's Network and he's on the Verizon Network, lol.

One option you can use is File Dropper:
    http://www.filedropper.com/
You copy the file to the site and it generates a link
that you can then copy and send off to the person
so that they can get the file.
Accepts files up to 5 gig I believe and is quite fast.

  • HT1414 How can I reset or unlock my Ipod Touch without using itunes?

I cant connect to my iTunes cause my Ipod Touch is locked and now i cant unlock it. I would like to reset or unlock it without using iTunes? Is there anyway i can do this?

No. You need iTunes on a computer.
Connect the iOS device to your computer and restore via iTunes. Place the iPod inRecovery Mode if necessary to allow the restore.
If recovery mode does not work try DFU mode.

    For how to restore:
iTunes: Backing up, updating, and restoring iOS software
    To restore from backup see:
    iOS: How to back up
If you restore from iCloud backup the apps will be automatically downloaded. If you restore from iTunes backup the apps and music have to be in the iTunes library since synced media like apps and music are not included in the iPod backup that iTunes makes.
You can redownload iTuns purchases by:
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store

  • TS3212 how do i unlock my screen on my ipod nano without using itunes

how do i unlock my ipod nano screen without using itunes?

Sorry, but you can't. If you've forgotten the code, connecting the iPod to the computer from which you sync it or restoring the iPod are the only solutions.

  • How do i transfer files between two macs over the net (FTP)

    Hi,
Couldn't find a thread like this, apologies if its been discussed already recently, I'm trying to enable two iMacs both Intel, both running 10.4.10 to be able to swap files (quite large 350MB) over the net just using Tiger.
We both have .Mac accounts but the files only upload properly to our iDisk 1 out of 3 times and its getting annoying, I basically want my mate to be able to drag a file off my HD onto his via the net using no other programs just Tiger, is this possible?
If not, what's the best free program to use.
    Thanks

You'll have to get an FTP client as the Finder only reads, not writes to an FTP server. I can't suggest a free one. You will also need to open your computers up to the world. If you don't know how to do that, search for Port Forwarding and your particular router. You'll have to open up port 21 for FTP.
Plain old FTP is not very secure, so you shouldn't leave it open all the time. SFTP is Secure FTP, and you can use Fugu to use it. You'll still need to set up Port forwarding, but you can pick whatever port number you want. Fugu lets you pick the port number. You should set up standard users on each machine and make a sftpTransfer folder in the /Users/Shared/ folder. This will allow each of you to access the files. sftp allows anyone to see the directory structure, but still maintains the permissions from OS X. So, as standard users, you can look into each other's Home folder, but you won't be able to get into the subfolders or transfer files to or from any unshared locations.
By the way, I wrote an entire post describing how to use sftp from the command line before I decided to look for a client app for you. Then I found Fugu and changed it all.
    Edit:
I forgot to mention you must turn on Remote Login in the sharing pane, and you'll have to use port 22 as this is the only one Mac OS allows remote connections on.

  • Export video from multiple iOS devices to a Mac without using iTunes

I am tasked with importing video files from multiple iPads to a single Mac to aggregate for editing.
The file sizes on each device are many gigs large. I don't want to use iMovie on the Mac or iOS.
I don't want to use iTunes (since there are many iPads not owned by me to import video from).
    Suggestions?

iTunes. Other than that there is no direct method. However, do try the iPhone forums.

  • Any way to get music onto a iPod Touch without using iTunes?

I don't want iTunes on my computer. Is there any other way to get music on to my iPod Touch without it?
iTunes makes to many changes to my computer that I have no control over, sorry but it's just crappy software. I had to remove it from another computer as it disabled Outlook and kept giving errors at boot up. I also don't see why it has to copy my music to another folder and have it on my HD twice. I could go on and on and don't get me started on the iCloud bugs.

Other than iCloud or synching from iTunes, the only other option is to purchase music directly from the iTunes Store.
iTunes works just fine with Outlook on my computer and the many others I support, FWIW. And you don't have to have your music on your drive twice. You can have it anywhere on your computer and just have iTunes recognize it where it is.
    Regards.

  • Deleting iTunes files on a Mac when using iTunes Match

When using iTunes Match, how do you go about deleting the music that resides on the Mac HD? With my music being stored on the iCloud, it sure would be good to free up some HD space.

Music is deleted exactly the same way as prior to using iTunes Match.

  • Moving ipod files onto a mac WITHOUT using a program

My computer recently crashed and I have a good 30 songs that are new from the itunes store since the last time I backed up my music files. I have a mac formatted ipod and want to be able to put the music on it back onto the computer, but want to do so without installing or using any programs (as sketchy programs is the reason my computer crashed).
Does anyone know how to do this? I did it previously when transferring from a PC to a mac, but have since forgotten, but remember there being numerous help topics and explanations on how to go about this before the whole "use a program" fad started. I know it involves opening 'preferences' on the itunes menu so the ipod doesn't automatically update, but what happens next?
Any help would be extremely appreciated.

  • Synching between three macs WITHOUT using .mac

Is there a way to synch between three different computers? I have two at home (a main one, and a laptop), and I need to be able to make one the 'master' and have it mirrored to the laptop occaisionally. I can connect them via the network.
Same question for the remote (work) mac - can I ftp or email the synch files? Can this be done? .mac would probably be best, but since Apple charges a 40% surcharge simply because I live in Canada, I refuse to buy it.(As of now, we should be getting a 'discount'. Would be easiest if they just charged everything in US dollars, and let the finance companies do the conversion.)
Same question for mail as well as address book.

Get a copy of Folderssynchronizer for each Mac. Choose which folders you want to keep synced - Documents, presumably, and any others. You can do this with Address Book but Mail might be problematic - certainly if you are using different versions. If they are the same you could probably sync the ~/Library/Mail folder, but it could be pretty large. See below for another method.
Get a large capacity USB drive - you can get them up to 4MB. Create an empty folder with the same name for each of the folders you want to sync. Now you can carry out a sync from you main Mac to the USB stick, and from the USB stick to the other computers in the same way
You need to sync each computer at the beginning and end of a session, and operate a rule which is that the computer which is currently between these syncs is the only one to have files modified (if you modify the same file on two computers one of them will get overwritten).
You could do this over the network, but for the work computer it might prove too difficult and slow to be worth it.
Syncing Mail may be better done by setting each machine to leave messages on the server for one week (or whatever): then each message gets downloaded to each machine (which can be a bit confusing). You could Bcc replies to yourself and use Rules to route these to the 'Sent' folder. Of course the best way to sync mail is to use IMAP.

  • Can't transfer files to iPod Shuffle since latest iTunes update

AFAIK, the only way to add a file such as a song or podcast to my ipod shuffle is to right-click the file and scroll down to 'Add to Playlist' and then there should be an icon for the ipod shuffle there among the playlists. But since the lates update, even though it is connected, the icon does not appear, and so I have no way to add specific tracks to my ipod shuffle.
    Anyone know what to do?

I tried another way but it didn't work. I tried to autofill from a playlist, but I got a message saying that autofill didn't work because no files in the playlist can be transferred to the ipod.
Now I'm going to try restoring it to the factory settings. This is really annoying.
