Anyway to update Apple's location database without an gps enabled apple device?

So I have moved from Manila to Angeles City here in the Philippines. Still using the same router. I've search countless ways on how to update your hotspot's location. Whenever I get connected to my Android's hotspot. It updates it to where I live. Whenever I connect to my router it gets confused. It says im at Manila or I'm at my correct location. Location disappears after a few secs on my router. It's stable when I connect to my android device. Non of my friends have iPhone's. I do have one but it's dead. Wouldn't waste my money on fixing it just for the location. Is there like any app for an android device to tell Apple where is my router located?

Nothing's going to happen until such time as you connect an iPhone or WiFi+Cellular iPad to your router. An Android device isn't going to have any way to connect to and update Apple's database, and a WiFi-only iPad doesn't have location information to pass on to Apple.
Regards.

  • Update OS X and software without users having corporate apple ID

    So the app store has thrown our IT office a big mess.  We have final cut, and the general iphoto, OS X and some other pieces of software we've purchased that have had to be bought through the app store, that are tied to our corporate apple ID.  We can install these on the user machines by signing in with this apple ID, but then in order to install updates the user needs that apple ID, and we're not really wanting to hand out our credentials since someone could just purchase stuff on the corporate account that way.
    There has to be a way for corporations to buy software from apple and have it updated without having to hand over corporate credentials to users, right?  I mean, they wouldn't seriously be that incompetent when designing this that they would leave out corporate purchases entirely.
    So, what's the apple approved way of handing out licenses to users, cause so far we haven't found an efficient way of doing this.
    Thanks

    Anyone? No one's got any idea how to do this in a corporate environment?

  • I switched iPad users and changed to my apple ID but cannot update any of my apps without the old users apple ID password

    My boss gave me his old iPad and reset all of the information and I signed in with my apple ID but every time I try and update any of my apps it asks for his password, how do I fix it?

    You can't fix it. The apps are tied to your boss's Apple ID and so you'll need it to update those apps. The only alternative is to delete those copies of the apps and re-purchase them through your own iTunes Store account.

  • LOCATION FINDING without using GPS using J2ME (in gsm network)

    I was wondering if it is possible for me to obtain the ID (name) of the tower my phone is communicating with using J2ME (in a GSM network). I`m developing for T610. The cell info display shows the name of the tower. Is there any way i can get that text into my java program? I`ve seen Nokia apps do it, but they are C++ apps.. Is the same thing possible with J2ME?

    Hi,
    Yes it is possible. Try to use receive CBS messages it will give you the location name. And moreover there are some handset model specific that you have to use. I was successful in doing the same for motorola devices.
    System.getProperty("IMSI")
    System.getProperty("CellID")
    System.getProperty("LocAreaCode")
    This will give you imsi, cellid and location area code and then try to receive cbs messages that will give you the location.
    It has been successfully implemented on motorola device

  • How routers are added to location database?

    I know that Apple works with a database where routers are saved with its locations. When your iDevice is connected to a wifi network it copies part of the database and part of the map corresponding to your actual location to its caché.
    I once read that Street View's cars uploaded routers and their locations when working.
    However I live in a small town in Argentina, and I get my location on my iPod while walking.
    One of my thoughts was that iPhone, which owns GPS and satellital network, could upload routers to that database, am I right?
    How does it work?

    In my first post, I meant to say "people with iPhone" could be uploading routers and its locations unconsciously.
    Yes, I was close, thanks for that article, I should have read it before. However it would be more simple to understand if we just post this:
    Crowd-sourced Wi-Fi and cellular Location Services
    If Location Services is on, your device will periodically send the geo-tagged locations of nearby Wi-Fi hotspots and cell towers in an anonymous and encrypted form to Apple, to augment Apple's crowd-sourced database of Wi-Fi hotspot and cell tower locations. In addition, if you are traveling (for example, in a car) and Location Services is on, a GPS-enabled iOS device will also periodically send GPS locations and travel speed information in an anonymous and encrypted form to Apple, to be used for building up Apple's crowd-sourced road traffic database. The crowd-sourced location data gathered by Apple does not personally identify you.

    No.  You have to get there first and all subsequent updates can be done without a computer.

  • HT5467 Updating WiFi router location in Apple's database?

    I recently moved and the WiFi location database still shows my router in my old residence, which is the wrong state. How do I update Apple's WiFi location database?

    Thanks for the reply. Here are some more updates as far as trying to get this straightened out.
    The iPhone eventually switched back to thinking it was in Austin shortly after I turned my femtocell back on. I can't be sure if turning on the femtocell is what threw it off again, or if more time back on my wireless did it and it was just a coincidence with when I turned the femtocell on.
    I also seem to have confirmed that if the phone is connected to cellular via my femtocell, this totally breaks location services even if I'm not on my wireless. I turned the iPhone's wireless off again, rebooted it, and location services failed to determine the phone's location (in maps) so long as my femtocell was still on. Once I disconnected it, the phone was able to accurately geolocate itself. This behavior seems to agree with documentation I found earlier. I am not wondering (speculation) if the iPhone switched back to thinking it was in Austin when I turned my femtocell on, because it fell back to the bad router geolocation once being on the femtocell horked with location services.
    So right now my iPhone once again knows where it is, and iCloud agrees. To reiterate, the phone is disconnected from wifi and my femtocell is turned off (so I have just a super weak signal directly from a tower). I'm going to leave it this way for a few days this time, the thought being that maybe it just needs more time for something to settle in (highly technical I know) before reconnecting to my wireless network, at which time I hope it would tell the location database that the router has a new location. We'll see. I have not tried changing my SSID yet, as I suggested I might.

    I can no longer buy, download, or update apps/iTunes without being asked for apple ID and billing information. Even if apps are free or updating I'm asked for billing information. It's been like this for a couple of weeks after the purchase of a movie off iTunes and the purchase was successful but afterwards my App Store and iTunes stopped working properly. • Error when update "locate" database

    I'm running a Lion system (10.7.3) that was upgraded from Snow Leopard. I want to update the "locate" database. I tried what is prescribed everywehre I've searched on line:
    sudo /usr/libexec/locate.updatedb
    That gives errors:
    shell-init: error retrieving current directory: getcwd: cannot access parent directories: Permission denied
    shell-init: error retrieving current directory: getcwd: cannot access parent directories: Permission denied
    shell-init: error retrieving current directory: getcwd: cannot access parent directories: Permission denied
    find: .: Permission denied
    What's wrong and how does one fix this?
    Note that now, whenever I try to use locate, I get no output; before I ran the locate.updatedb command, locate had been working as expected.

    What was suggested above didn't work for me.. typing "sudo" just gives me the help content, while "su" tells me "su: Sorry". Conversely "su -MYUSER" worked.
    However, this single command DID work for me (clearly, I am an admin user):
    sudo -u MYUSER /usr/libexec/locate.updatedb

  • Updating policies and Policy Database or Policy Updates without server restart

    Hi again,
    I have implemented the flash access reference implementation server including setting up all example database tables (so we have a central database server).  I have started updating policies for the application "whitelist" features and have run into some questions below.
    The Protecting Content documentation states:
              "If your license server has access to a database for storing policies, you can retrieve the updated policy from the database and call LicenseRequestMessage.setSelectedPolicy()"
    This leads to two questions:
    1)  The reference implementation doesn't store any Policies in the database (it stores them on the filesystem in the Resources Directory).     I can not find any documentation or examples of how to "retrieve the updated policy from the database".     Can somebody please point me to an example or documentation on how to store policies in the database so I can simply LicenseRequestMessage.setSelectedPolicy()?
    2)  As the reference implementation stores policies on the disk I had to use policy update lists when I whitelisted an AIR app.     However, the reference server did not honor the policy update list till I restarted the flash access reference server.      How can I notify the flash access server of the change to the update policy list without restarting the server?
    Thank you,
    -R

    Hello,
    Please see my answers below.
    Answer 1>
    If you want to store the binary representation of the policy in the database, you can invoke Policy.getBytes() and store the returned byte[] as a blob in the database. For details on how to store such binary data in a database, you should consult the documentation for you database. Then, to rebuild a policy that had been stored in a database, you can obtain the byte[] stored in the database, and invoke new Policy(byte[]) with it to reconstruct that policy instance.
    See the following javadocs:
          * Retrieves an encoded byte array representation of the policy.
          * <p>If this <code>Policy</code> was created from an empty constructor, the revision number
          * will be <code>1</code>.  If this was an existing policy and changes were made to the policy,
           * the revision number will be incremented by one. Otherwise, the revision number will not change.</p>
          * <p>The validity of the policy is first checked before encoding into a byte array.  Encoding will fail
          * if {@link #checkValidity()} throws an exception.</p>
           * @return A serialized representation of the policy.
          * @throws PolicyModificationException The <code>Policy</code> cannot be serialized because it was created with a newer version and was modified.
          * @throws PolicyException The <code>Policy</code> is missing required fields or contains conflicting entries.
          * @throws EncodingException Unable to encode the <code>Policy</code> to a byte array.
          public byte[] getBytes() throws PolicyException, EncodingException;
          * This constructor parses an existing policy from the given byte array.
           * @param policy The policy from which to construct this <code>Policy</code>.
          * @throws EncodingException Unable to parse the byte array into a <code>Policy</code>.
          * @throws PolicyException The <code>Policy</code> is missing required fields or contains conflicting entries.
          public Policy( byte[] policy ) throws PolicyException, EncodingException;
    Answer 2>
    In order to implement automatic configuration updates of policy update lists on the flash access server, you will need to tweak the Reference Implementation code, to monitor the file update state and re-load the PolicyUpdateList if it changes. The code snippet below, taken from the com.adobe.flashaccess.refimpl.util.ParamsReader.buildHandlerConfiguration() method, should serve as an example of how the PolicyUpdateList is loaded and then set on the HandlerConfiguration instance for it to take effect for a particular license acquisition request. In the case of the reference implementation, this code (below) is only invoked once, during server initialization. That is why a server restart is necessary for subsequent changes to take effect. However, nothing prevents this code form being invoked elsewhere, and that implementation is entirely upto the customer, to achieve the desired outcome.
          PolicyUpdateList pul = PolicyUpdateListFactory.loadPolicyUpdateList(pulInputStream);
          if (pul != null)
                X509Certificate issuerCert = null;
                if (hsmEnabled)
                      issuerCert = getHSMCertificate(props, hsmUtils, "RevocationList.verifySignature.X509Certificate");
                else
                      String pulSignatureCertFile = props.getProperty("RevocationList.verifySignature.X509Certificate");
                      if (pulSignatureCertFile != null)
                            InputStream pulSignerInputStream = new FileInputStream(resourcesDir + pulSignatureCertFile);
                            issuerCert = CertificateFactory.loadCert(pulSignerInputStream);
                if (issuerCert != null)
                      pul.verifySignature(issuerCert);
                      context.setPolicyUpdateList(pul);

    hello people......
    ohkay.... so my iphone decided to turn off on me while i tryd opening the app. clash of clans, and when i turned it back on, it displayed the apple logo for 10 - 15 seconds on the screen before fading out and shutting down. i have tryd all recomnded steps and none have worked. my itunes detects my phone in recovery mode, but after retrieving all necesary data for the restore process. when itunes prompts waiting for iphone, the apple logo is dsplayed on the screen for 10 - 15 seconds and then fades out and shuts down... has anybody found a fix for this problem?

    It's quite probable that your iPhone has a hardware problem. Contact Apple Support or make an appointment at an Apple Store and have your iPhone evaluated.

  • Skyhook Wireless' location services no longer work on Apple devices

    Hello,
    Two weeks ago I emailed Skyhook after I'd noticed my iPod Touch wouldn't find it's location anymore on location based apps even though I always keep my Access Point update on Skyhook's database.They told me that they don't offer their services to Apple anymore.
    After hearing that I searched the Internet a bit and found this article: http://www.xconomy.com/boston/2010/08/04/skyhook-wireless-digs-in-touts-location -patents-after-apple-drops-technology-from-iphone/
    So basically I'd like to know if it's true that we can't locate our devices by using Skyhook's database anymore and if so how does one track their ipod's location now.

    While you have a point wrt the tech staff, I'd expect some acknowledgment of the problem, and perhaps an indication of a schedule/priority. For the formal bug report systems I am familiar with ( I'm a professional engineer/scientist, PhD in EE ) there is feedback to the reporter, and a mapping of priorities. IMHO, there is a lot of quiet from apple over this.
    But, thanks for your response, I guess I will wait patiently ( or at least until an android PDA shows up )
    Yes, the "no response to problem reports" does give the not-so-warm feeling of shoving something into a black hole. Occasionally, Apple will contact a problem reporter if they need more technical detail.
    I did see a comment from someone once where they reported that someone at Apple told them that Apple was looking at a way for users to request updates/corrections to the database. Lots of "someones" in there so take that for what it's worth.
    An automatic update mechanism isn't so easy since it could be maliciously abused. The Skyhook update mechanism was quite slow to take effect perhaps for this reason.

    I was able to get to a support person who helped me fix this without charge. I guess it was my bad for not trying the right way to access support.
    Anyway, they answer is this.
    I had to create a new account on my computer. When I logged into the new account it immediately wanted an AppleID. I used my daughter's e-mail address for the AppleID. This setup the internet accounts correctly with her iCloud.com e-mail address. I was then able to access e-mail in both the browser and Mail. Not that complicated but nothing that I would have easily thought up on my own.
    Thank Apple Support!
