Anywhere access wizard issues

Hi,
I have set up anywhere access (specifically remote web access) on a 2012 R2 Essentials server.
When I ran the wizard, it found the following issues:
"Anywhere Access to your server is blocked. Some routers may not work properly with your server...Some Internet service providers (ISP) block TCP ports 80 and 443 to prevent customers from remotely accessing services hosted on their networks..."
and
"There may be more than one router on your network. Windows Server Essentials is not able to setup the networking correctly."
We have a SonicWall router sitting behind an AT&T U-verse modem. The router's WAN IP is a static public IP from AT&T, and the Windows Server has a static LAN IP.
Since the SonicWall doesn't support UPNP, I manually configured NAT policies so that https 443 traffic is forwarded to the server.
The strange thing is that remote web access works just fine for the most part. Are the following issues safe to ignore?
Thanks.

Hi Jason,
à
Since the SonicWall doesn't support UPNP, I manually configured NAT policies so that https 443 traffic is forwarded to the server.
When run
Set up Anywhere Access wizard, the Windows Server 2012 R2 Essentials will attempt to configure your router. If UPnP is supported in router, Windows 2012 Server R2 Essentials may be able to automatically configure the router. Since your SonicWall router
does not support UPnP, those red warnings will be shown as you see in the Set up Anywhere Access wizard and you need to
manually configure your router. Meanwhile, since you have manually configured the router to forward TCP 443 port, the RWA will run as normal.
So, I agree with Robert. If RWA works fine, those red warning message in
Set up Anywhere Access wizard can be safely ignored.
Hope this helps.
Best regards,
Justin Gu

There is an Anywhere Access Wizard window wanting to setup and download updates.
I do not have Windows Server 2012 Essentials.
I have declined the setup and download.
How do I keep this window from popping up?
It is very annoying and slows my computer.

    Hi Sheilah,
Would you please let us know current situation of this issue?
-->There is an Anywhere Access Wizard window wanting to setup and download updates.
As Grey mentioned, would you please let us know more details of this issue? You described that "window wanting to setup and download updates". Did there a message popped up and remind
that you should set up (and download)? Would you please provide a screenshot of this issue? That will help us to understand the question better. (Please hide or remove all protected and private information.)
If any update, please feel free to let us know.

  • Azure Access Anywhere Access Wizard doesn't set up SSL correctly

How do you set up the SSL certificate to get the anywhere access set up if the wizard doesn't complete the process. using godaddy as the domain resource, purchased the SSL but the wizard states "waiting for SSL to be issued" Godaddy says need
to do the CSR as many times the Azure wizard doesn't work... is there a link that describes how to generate the info out of the Azure server to submit the CSR? Not sure how to find that... Thanks.

    Hi,
Based on my experience, you can install the IIS role on the VM and create a Certificate Signing Request on the IIS manager.
You can open IIS Manager and navigate to the root element for the web server. Open the Server Certificates by double-clicking on the icon, then on the right you will see the Actions options,
please click the Create Certificate Request to start the wizard.
In addition, it seems that you can create a Certificate Signing request via the MMC. However, I am not sure if it is possible for a Godaddy SSL certificate. You can
    also have a try:
    1. Click
Start, click Run, type mmc, and then press ENTER.
    2. On the
    File menu, click Add/Remove Snap-in.
    3. Add the
Certification snap-in, choose “Computer Account” > “Local” > "Finish". Next add the snap-in “Certificate Authority” and once again choose “Computer
Account” > “Local computer” > Finish.
    4. Then access
Certificates > Personal > Certificates, then right-click mouse button and select "All Tasks", "Advanced Operations" and "Create
    Custom Request".

  • Anywhere Access - CERTIFICATE NOT VALID OR PASSWORD INCORRECT

Setting up Server Essentials 2012.  During the "Anywhere Access" wizard I followed a link to get an SSL for the company's URL that is directed at the server.  I chose one of the two options that was presented during setup and purchased a "SSL
Cert for SSL Certificate - Comodo Essential" from Enom Inc.
Once I got the certificate in email, and continued the wizard I get the following error:
CERTIFICATE NOT VALID OR PASSWORD INCORRECT
Either the certificate is not supported or the password is incorrect.  Please try again.
I've tried everything I can to get it in the wizard to no avail.  If I manually push it into the certificate manager it accepts it there properly but the Essentials Dashboard still thinks it's no installed so I believe I have to complete this wizard.  I
cannot find ANY support on this currently on the internet on searching.  Anyone able to help?
(By chance the server is also unable to install two critical updates.  I am taking things one at a time in the order they come right now though.)
    KevenD.

The PFX file is only allowed in the wizard if you are importing a previously created SSL.  Here's the steps that got me to the dead end I'm in:
Step 1 - Setup process - Set up Anywhere Access
Step 2 – It asks what domain name we have pointing to the server, configures the firewall routing services etc and then gets to the SSL portion which I will depict below.
Step 3 – Domain Set up in the Anywhere Access wizard: Entering name of our domain to use.
Step 4 – SSL Certificate set up.  I select “I want to purchase..”, clicked on the two links provided, decided on one from eNomCentral and made the purchase.
Step 5 – Cert request is issued and a link to GoDaddy and eNomCentral are given.  It was eNomCentral which sold me on the Comodo SSL.
Step 6 – Park and wait.
The next time I go into the wizard to continue (once the certificate was issued) I get the errors I earlier depicted from the wizard stating:
CERTIFICATE NOT VALID OR PASSWORD INCORRECT
Either the certificate is not supported or the password is incorrect.  Please try again.
I get two methods of importing it, copy/paste or upload.  I've tried both methods and each generates a different error.

  • 2012 R2 Essentials - Anywhere Access will not install. Including Remote Web Access portion.

After setting up 2012 R2 Essentials, I attempted to go through the dashboard's "Set up Anywhere Access" wizard. I was able to configure a domain name successfully on remotewebaccess.com but when the wizard attempted to enable the "Remote Web
Access" feature, the wizard flashes a couple of statuses and locks up on verifying and then the entire dashboard crashes. When I go to the event logs, there is only a mention of dashboard.exe having an exception error. I have also delved into the dashboard.log
file and found the following error where it throws the FATAL crash:
Dashboard.Forms: !!!!FATAL: Dashboard shutting down due to unhandled exception: The 'Get-WindowsFeature' command was found in the module 'ServerManager', but the module could not be loaded. For more information, run 'Import-Module ServerManager'.

I have launched PowerShell and executed the "Import-Module ServerManager" along with the "Get-WindowsFeature" command and it returns the list of available and installed features. I have also tried rebooting the server and attempting the
wizard numerous times and all attempts result in the same error above. Does anyone have an idea of what could be causing this? I have searched google, bing, and the technet similar questions but none have a solution that will allow me to use the wizard to
enable the Remote Web Access feature.

I had a similar issue, it does appears to be caused by MyMovies 5.
I removed MM5 but the dashboard would still crash after opening the Anywhere Access tab and when it had been running the 'Updating' status for a bit. going through the dashboard log I found that just under the line about the Get-WindowsFeature error was
a comment 'atMyMovies.Common... full error as follows:

So I ended up removing the role using server manager, along with the remote access role, and then rebooting the server. I then added the Remote Access role back in by choosing the 'DirectAccess and VPN (RAS)' option.
When I then ran the dashboard Anywhere Access setup it worked.
Other issues that seemed to cause the dashboard to crash was when I released the remotewebaccess.com domain name and then added it back in. I had multiple certificates with the same name which seemed to cause an issue. so I released the domain name again,
went into the certificates MMC and removed any of the goDaddy certificate. then configured the domain name again and the rest of the wizard ran with no issues.
    Hope some of this helps...

  • Anywhere Access (Windows Server 2012 R2 Essentials)

I am need some help. I have a Windows Server 2012 R2 Essentials server at my house. Currently I am trying to setup Anywhere Access, but I have issues. First, the router that I got from my ISP doesn't have UPnP, so I have to do port forwarding.
    1. Which ports need to be opened? Ive tried opening ports 80, 443, 1723, and I still get any error when setting up UPnP (done this several times).
Is there anything that I have missed that I don't know about? Needing a fresh pair of eyes. Are there any other ports that I need to open and forward them to my server? Would i have to doing anything on the advanced firewall settings on the server?
    Thank you,
    David Marks

You can just open 80 and 443, no need for 1723.
When running the Anywhere Access wizard, tell it to skip the router setup.

  • Cannot enable anywhere access in Server 2012 Essentials R2

    Hi all,
I have recently installed & setup Windows Server 2012 Essentials R2 on Lenovo S20. Everything is going great except for Anywhere Access! I previously had Server Essentials 2012 running on a HP Microserver but the hardware desperately needed upgrading
& when R2 came out I grabbed my opportunity. I did not do a migration as I only needed to copy my data. I have everything else set up, i.e. AD DNS, DHCP etc etc & all required roles installed but when I access the dashboard Anywhere Access wizard the
server says it is switched off, so, I go to set up & skip domain name setup as I already have one setup through MS & skip router setup as my ports are already forwarded & the server handles all DNS & DHCP anyway. Click on next & tick anywhere
access ( have tried with VPN too) & next then click allow current users & groups etc & next again, then the setting up remote desktop box has the green bar scrolling across & that is as far as I get. I have tried multiple times & it never
goes any further, I have even left it for over 48 hours!! The only option left is to cancel which it does OK.
I have trawled the internet for answers but cannot find anything similar to my problem. As I say, everything else is OK, local computers connect & see the file structure OK. It is just this anywhere access problem. Any help would be greatly appreciated
as I do sometimes need to access certain files while away from my premises. I think I have mentioned everything but if you need any more info please ask. I am pretty new to servers & still have a lot to learn but am getting there slowly!!
    Anthony

OK my friend has so far had no luck in finding a problem :(
I have looked at the logs suggested but I have to be honest they mean very little to me. I have a Dashboard.log & a SharedServiceHost-ManagementServiceConfig.log which it says was last updated on 7th Dec but I also have another of those logs which ends
in .2.log so it's full name is SharedServiceHost-ManagementServiceConfig.2.log is this right? That one has been updated today.
I have uploaded a logs.zip file to my Skydrive space if anybody would be good enough to have a look & tell me what I should be looking for? The link is: Logs.zip
Thanks for you advice so far

  • Unable to Open Project Site Access Denied Issue (Project Manager)

    Hi
We got an issue that one project manager is having 12 projects, in that she can able to view 5 projects-- project sites but remaining 7 projects --- she is not able to open the project site (access denied) error is throwing when she try to open.
She is the project manager of the 12 projects and having project manager permissions on the project sites.
Please suggest any solution for this.
Geeth If you feel that the answer which i gave you is Helpful please select it as Answer/helpful.

I believe I've found the fix for this issue.  After opening a ticket with MS support and not getting anywhere with this issue I decided to do an in-depth review of all the Project and SharePoint 2013 CU's starting with December 2013 to September 2014.
To my amazement buried inside the July 2014 CU was a hotfix for this issue described almost word for word. (I will list all the relevant KB's at the end)  I contacted my support engineer inquiring about this hotfix and he stated it wasn't relevant because
the "Synchronize Project Web App permissions to Project Site" was not failing or even generating any warnings in our Prod or Test environments.  I stated that is not always an indicator as ULS doesn't always catch all relevant errors.
I informed him that I also found a second hotfix pertaining to the same issue released August 2014, apparently the first hotfix in July didn't totally resolve the issue and a second hotfix was released.  He was adamant that this would not resolve
our issue and he requested or production databases because he was unable to replicate the issue in his test environment.  The reason, you may wonder, is because he was at a higher patch level that our farm.... Obviously!  His farm had the most current
CU which included the hotfixes from July and August.  Apparently he didn't see the flaw in his logic.
I decided to install the September CU on our test farm. Low and behold that fixed the problem, even though MS support stated the hotfix was not relevant to our issue.  I learned a long time ago to take MS support comments as suggestions instead
of gospel truth, this isn't the first time they have confidently given me erroneous information.
We are currently doing further testing to verify that this CU didn't break something else.  Unfortunately these rollups are not GA and Microsoft is very clear that you should only install them if the hotfixes pertain directly to your issue.
Finding the hotfixes was a chore as Microsoft loves to create multiple KB's for the same thing and then nest (bury) them so you have to dig through four or five KB's to find the relevant fix.  I'll save you the trouble and list them below.

September CU Webcast Brian Smith and team go into depth explaining why this issue has been happening and how they fixed it.

  • E72 Wlan Wizard Issue: Icon/Selection disappeared ...

    Crossposted from here: http://discussions.nokia.com/t5/Eseries-and-Communicators/E72-Wlan-Wizard-Issue-Memory-Full-and-icon...
After my mobile phone automatically switched off while I was trying to check my SMS because of low battery, I plugged it to charger and switch it on again. Upon turning on however, the Wlan Wizard icon/selection has disappeared from start up screen/desktop. When I try to access Wlan Wizard by going Menu > Ctrl Panel > Connect > WLAN wiz., it gave me Memory Full error instead.
I've tried various method available that I can get from here: Turn off and on (it worked when the same issue happened a long time ago but not this time), deleting licenserserv.log to free up space in phone memory (still no Wlan Wiz and still Memory Full error after restart), going back to factory setting and restart but all to no avail.
Following the advice in the thread I posted before, I installed Nokia Suite and updated my E-72 with the latest software. I even try reinstalling for good measure. Still the same thing: no Wlan Wizard icon on desktop/home screen and Memory Full upon Menu > Ctrl Panel > Connect > WLAN wiz.
What else can I do to solve this issue? The attached picture is my phone info using Nokia Suite. Note the red highlight box. Is it supposed to be so?

You need to try the *#7370# reset. It should not touch anything on the memory card but you can remove it as a precaution. Do 2 backups, one with everything and the oter with only your data. Sometimes when you restore all the settings as well it brings bck the problem.
After the reset, try the phone to make sure everything is working fine before restoring your backup. If the problem comes back after the restore then reset again but this time use restore using the data only backup.

  • Windows server anywhere access not working from outside the lan

ok so heres what i have done so far i installed windows server 2012 essential on a computer followed the wizard to add a couple of users and gave them anywhere access followed the wizard and ran the anywhere access to completion setup the ports 80 and 443
on router manually to forward to my router ip 10.0.1.20
my server is still on dynamic ip
then i go to a windows 7 ultimate computer whent to the connect url downloaded the connect tool ran to completion and restarted the computer so far everything working inside my lan i can connect to the server see shared files and open the dash management
now i go outside connect to a wired or wireless network of a friend and try to connect to http://xxxxxxx.remotewebaccess.com
but am unsuccessfull then i check on my network adapter page and see that there is a new adapter that is called as my remotewebaccess.com so i click on it and try to connect but still fails........
please help what am i doing wrong?
i checked everywhere and cant find a solution.
    Thank you

It is probably better to assign a static IP to your server, but OTH it may not change.  But you really hate to go off on vacation and have the ip change and everything break.
Now you said you forwarded ports 80 and 443 to your router, I bet you meant your server?
Do www.whatismyip.com and from outside ping xxxx.remotewebaccess.com and make sure they are true same ip
From a PC or the server on your network go to grc.com and do shields up and make sure it reports 80 and 443 as open

  • Dual monitor not working in 2012R2 essentials anywhere access

    Hi
I tried to connect to 2012R2 Ess anywhere access (Remote portal) from a W7Pro client using two monitors.
Only one monitor gets used though. Can Anywhere Access be configured to enable dual monitor use in RDP sessions?
    Many thanks

    Hi Willem,
As per my research, dual monitor is supported but for that to get access you need to have Windows 7 Enterprise or Ultimate version. Win 7 Pro client doesn’t support.

  • Server 2012 R2 Anywhere Access

Hi there, I was wondering if anyone has the answer I need as I'm pulling my hair out trying to work out what I've missed.
I have a server setup at home and am running Windows Server 2012 R2, I am trying to set it up for anywhere access for when I'm away and for family access to the drives.
I am currently getting the error that the uPnP is not enabled on the router when running the wizard on the server.
I know this isnt true as I've logged into the home hub (4) and have seen it set to on. Extended uPnP security is also set to on. I've turned these on and off and no difference is made.
I've port fowarded ports 443 and 80, but again, no difference, still the same error. (uPnP is not enabled)
Does anyone have the answer for me?
    Thanks in advance

  • Unable to Connect Anywhere Access

    Hello,
I've recently upgraded a six computer network with Windows Server 2012 Essentials R2.  The problem I'm having is that I'm unable to get Anywhere Access to set-up properly, with the most common error messages being: 1) Anywhere Access to your
server is blocked & 2) There may be more than one router on your network(which there is not).  I have UPnP enabled(although have been hesitant to do so) & port 443 & 80 is forwarded to the servers IP address. The previous server
used before the upgrade was Windows Sever 2012 Essentials & after numerous trials & errors had Anywhere Access working properly for our needs for around two years.  The router that has not changed nor have any of the settings since it
was working properly is a Cisco RV220W.  Any assistance would be greatly appreciated, since I'm just about out of ideas & need to get remote access up & running for this business.  Thank you.

    Hi:
    Need more info:
Can you confirm that the new server has the same IP as the old since you say nothing has changed on the router?  Can you confirm that you ran all the wizards and applied for and installed a new SSL certificate for the new domain?
If you turn off UPnP on the router, reset it to factory specs, then configure it manually, (and you do not need port 80) does that make a difference?
Verify that the port forward is "enabled" which in many routers is a tick box.  From the server connect to a public port scanner and see what ports are open.  Shields Up is a good one.
