  • Windows Media Player plug-in issues - Safari 4.0.5 on Windows 7

    Hi guys,
I just did a fresh install of Windows 7 and of course the page to chose a browser popped up. Glad to see my beloved Safari browser to be available I installed it. Of course not all was running smoothly but after the 'mandatory' flash, Windows Media Player and QuickTime plug in I assumed all media content should run perfect in Safari.
Unfortunately not for WMV files. I get the 'Safari can't find the internetplugin, MIME-type application/x-mplayer2'error message.
I looked the issue up on the web of course and found out the trouble that Safari had with WMV streaming. What struck me is that this is a Mac only problem I believe (Flip4Mac solution). As I am running Windows 7 I was quite sure that Safari should be able to stream and play WMV files in the browser.
So I removed and installed the Windows Media Player plug-in again (http://www.apple.com/safari/download/plugins.html) but to no avail. I then removed Safari and installed it again, still same problem. I tried the Fire-Fox plug in, no solution.
It really drives me nuts to open IE8 only to play some WMV files in the browser. I hope someone can shed some light on this issue.
Strange thing I noticed: I can't see how I can manage my plug-ins. There seems to be no tab for it in the Safari settings and in the program-files folder I can only find Java.
Thank you so much for your time and effort.

I looked up the internet but can't find anything on this. As no replies here too I guess I'm the only one. The other thing that struck me is the enormous CPU usage when playing flash in the browser. Up to 95%-100% cpu usage when playing HD flash content. First I assumed it was a Flash issue but Internet Explorer never used more then 35%-55%. I then assumed it was just Flash in Safari. Strange thing is, if I maximize the window the cpu load actually drops to 55%. I only get high cpu usage when flash is played in the Safari window. I guess that means it's something to do with the browser and not an isolated flash 'bug'.
Also still no luck playing WMV in the browser itself. Maybe time to look for yet another browser. A shame as I like the Safari browser a lot. MobileMe and iPhone are great to sync bookmarks and the look and feel is great. The engine is not so good unfortunately.

  • Since I updated to firefox 5.0, the windows media player plug in for firefox doesnt work anymore :(

Ok I recently upgraded to firefox 5.0, and then when I went to a website that uses windows media player to watch videos and news reports, it said I needed to download the windows media player plug in for firefox. And yet I had already done that in the past. So it directs me to the plug in for windows media player 11, I download and install and it doesnt work. Website repeats the same message, you need to download plug in. It was working fine with firefox 4.0! I use the OS Windows 7, 64bit. Any help please?

Yes I did, at first it identified it as already there, so it gave the option of repairing it, etc, so I uninstalled the Windows Media Player, then Installed it again, and it still doesn't seem to work! I have the same problem with several other plug ins, in the add ons and plug in section of Mozilla tools, I see that say, "incompatible with firefox 5.0" but as days go by those add-ons, that are built by those other websites seem to be repairing it, but I wanted to know for something as important as windows media player plug in, am I the only one getting this problem? :/

  • Is anyone able to use Windows Media Player plug-in

I'd like to watch the video at the bottom of this page:
    http://www.bloomberg.com/apps/news?pid=20601068&sid=asbXQ1VWKyRM
It requires WMP plug-in. I have WMP installed but apparently not the plug-in. I click the link from the popup to get the plug-in. A Software Update window appears that wants to find Rosetta. I click to allow it. It says "Installing 2 items" and never progresses half way. Is there any way to watch this video on OS X 10.6.3?

    It plays fine for me.
You need to install the Flip4Mac WMV Player from http://www.telestream.net/flip4mac-wmv/overview.htm (Windows Media Player for the Mac is no longer supported, even by Microsoft)

  • Trouble with Windows Media Player Plug-in

I've been having a very annoying trouble lately. I can't play any windows media streams even though I have windows media player 9 installed. I reinstalled it but still nothing. Has someone else had this problem? Do I need to install something else? What do you recommend me?
    2GHz MacBook   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

    http://flip4mac.com
It allows WMP playback (most files) via QuickTime Player or its browser plug-in.
You'll need to use Rosetta to use WMP as it is over three years old and will never be made Universal.

  • Windows media player plug in

Hi guys a just got a mac last week and I love it, they only thing I dont like is it does not do windows media in safari, I have downloaded windows media player and that is ok but I want to watcha inbeded WMV in a web page and it says I need a plug in so it is going to try to luanch another program so it luanches windows media player but for some reason it does not work. but if I got to my PC it works fine. So I think I may need ie so I try to find that but I guess they stoped devloping it so does anyone have any ideas on how I can watch a emded WMV. Thanks
intel mac mini core duo   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

it put the litte embeded player in their but for some reson it will not start
Do you have a Flip4Mac folder in your applications folder? If so, there should be the WMV player with a round, green icon inside.
If you have it, then it should play any windows files you have on your computer, although if the file has a Windows Media Player document icon you will have to Control-Click on it and choose Open With and select WMV (if it is not on the list you would choose Other and navigate to the player).
It will not play streams in Safari unless you have Safari running under Rosetta. Additionally, I have had mixed results playing streams using Flip4Mac. Some streams that I listen to regularly using Windows Media Player will not play through Flip4mac's WMV Player.

  • How to prevent Windows Media Player plug-in from overriding sizing in html embed code?

My html code for embedding Windows Media Player into a frame recently developed problems in Firefox but not IE 8. The player displays properly at first, but then repositions and resizes. It seems my width setting is honored, but not my height setting. Also, autoplay="false' (or "0") additionally is not honored- the video starts playing after the repositioning and resizing. I have tried different embed code with the same result. I have the correct Windows Media Player Firefox Plug-in and it is up to date. I tried updating to Firefox version 9.0.1, but the problem persists. I've come across web postings positing the plug-in settings are overriding embed code. Any workarounds appreciated. Thank you.

  • When will the problem of Window Media Player Plug-in for every upgrade be ever resoled? It's getting VERY IRRITATING with every upgrade. Thank you.

With every upgrade, be it 3 or 4 and even the coming 5, many videos will hang that requires the Windows Media Player Firefox Plug-in or the LATEST Adobe Flash Player. Most plug-ins are compatible BUT not these two. Otherwise things will go smoothly.
    Thank you.

    1. Plugins aren't Mozilla's responsibility. Microsoft is responsible for the WMP plugin, which doesn't look like it is even installed in the Firefox you posted here with. You don't have the latest version of Adobe Flash AFAIK, but that is Adobe's responsibility, not Mozilla's.
    2. As far as Firefox version numbering, Firefox 4.o0 hasn't even been released yet and not even a tentative release date has been mentioned for Firefox 5.0.
Quite honestly, WMP isn't usually that big of a problem, but Flash is very problematic - enough that Steve Jobs has it banned from iOS which runs the iPhone, iPad, and deluxe iPod (whatever it's called). HTML5 is probably going to eliminate the need for the Flash Player in a few years; good riddance to bad rubbish, IMO.

  • I have installed Windows Media Player Plug-In for Firefox but the test video doesn't work, how can I solve this problem?

The plu-in is definitely there and installed

Not related to your problem, but you might want to consider upgrading to a more current version of Firefox, unless you have a specific reason for using Firefox 3.0.x. '''<u>The last</u>''' version of the Firefox 3.0.x series ('''''no longer supported or updated, even for security issues''''') was Firefox 3.0.19 which was released on 03/15/2010.

  • Windows Media Player plugin with Firefox not listed as suitable for SP3?

I am running XP SP3 and have Windows Media Player 11 installed....when I check my plug-ins in Firefox Microsoft DRM and Windows Media Player Plug-in Dynamic Link Library both show as outdated (9.0.0.3250), however, when I click on 'update' Windows Media Player 11 shows (which I already have) and a Windows Media Player ActiveX control for Firefox, which is not listed as suitable for XP SP3 (only SP2)?
    Please advise me. Thank you.

You may also have to delete the addons.sqlite file in addition to deleting pluginreg.dat

  • Can't download plug in for windows media player. Have used download site and it says it worked, but plug in is not showing up on my list of plug ins.

I tried to hear a conference call on a website. Got a message, needed windows media plug in. Checked my plug ins, no windows media. Read tutorial on firefox support. Clicked on download. Got a window that asked for repair or change. Tried repair, then change. Need better directions on how to finish download. Got message download successful, but after closing firefox and reopening, still no plug in for windows media in list of plug ins. Went to site and could not hear conference.
Read support forum. Message about using about:config. Tried this, typed in about: config in start menu, but didn't see anything that looked like I could change to true like message said.
solved by opening internet explorer and going to website and listening to conference call on windows media player. There was a message saying click here if you want to enable media player. Did so, heard conference.
Tried using chrome. Got to hear conference yesterday. Today, there was same message about needing plug in when I tried to follow instructions to get plug in, it was as confusing and useless as firefox. The bottom line is I tried to do everything set forth in firefox's forum suggestions and can't get the windown media plug in to show up in my list of plug ins and can't hear conference calls on firefox.
Chrome did say they were working on getting plug in available at chrome store.
I agree with comments that I was able to go to web sites and hear calls before firefox made an update that removed my windows media plug in. The simple download fix, presumeably from windows, does not work, apparently because firefox can't find the fix. That is not the user's fault, and it looks like windows tried to provide a fix, and firefox won't recognize it.
Bottom line, it is easier to use another browser, than try and get the windows media player plug in installed on firefox. What good is a browser, if you can't hear a call on the website that the browser takes you to? Please make it easy to install the windows media plug in on firefox. Thank you..

Firefox can find plugins in several locations, but Firefox 21 changed the location of the "shared" plugin folder so older installers like the Microsoft Windows Media Plugin no longer drop the DLL file in the correct location.
There apparently are two ways to address this:
    (1) Change a Firefox preference so that Firefox checks the old location. Here's how:
    (i) In a new tab, type or paste '''about:config''' in the address bar and press Enter. Click the button promising to be careful.
(ii) In the filter box, type or paste '''plugins''' and pause while the list is filtered
(iii) Double-click '''plugins.load_appdir_plugins''' to switch its value from false to true.
This will take effect after you restart Firefox.
    (2) Copy the plugins folder to the new location. Here's how on Win 7 64-bit:
Open a Windows Explorer window to:
    C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox
Right-click and copy the '''Plugins''' folder
Double-click the '''browser''' folder to open it
    Right-click and paste
Right-click the new copy of '''Plugins''' and rename it to '''plugins'''
After restarting Firefox, the plugins in that folder should now be available.
''Edit: I suggest just doing #1.''

  • Windows Media Player plugin & Safari - Quicktime opens up???

Everytime I'm on a website and I click on a video clip that is a windows media player video file (wmv), the file opens up with the quicktime plug in - and the whole wmv won't play. I have to download the clip to see the whole thing in my Windows Media Player.
How do I set up Safari so it will play wmv clips with a windows media player plug in so I don't have to download a bunch of video clips that I just wanted to see on a website.

This is what you need flip4mac. Just go to the link and download it.

  • XM Radio Help With Windows Media Player

Does anyone know how to get XM Radio to work within Safari? The Windows Media Player plug-in tries to connect but never does. I tried the Flip4Mac plug-in and got the same non-result.
I got the AOL radio player to work but it does not offer all of the XM channels.
Quick Silver   Mac OS X (10.4.4)

Well, I just signed up for a 3 day trial at XM and listened to a couple of songs through Safari. I'm not certain which version of Windows Media Player you have installed. If you don't have version 9 then head over to Microsoft and download it. If you do have try re-installing it and see if that helps.

    Hi,
Try the following to force Windows Media Player to re-build the Library Database.
A useful utility for viewing all the files on your PC is called Free Commander, on the link below, as it displays folders that the Operating System normally hides and has a good search function.
    http://www.snapfiles.com/php/download.php?id=107872&a=7122339&tag=601108&loc=10
This is a zipped file.  If you don't have an extraction utility installed, download and install 7-Zip which can be used to open this so that you can run the installer.
Make sure Windows Media Player and Windows Media Centre are closed.
Launch Free Commander, double click Users, double click 'your user name', double click Local Settings, double click Application Data, double click Microsoft and double click Media Player.  Delete all the files that have the extension .wmdb - do not delete any folders.
Close Free Commander and open Windows Media Player - it will now begin to re-build the library database which may take a while, but when it has finished see if the movie files play Ok now.
