AOL and mail some sent messages are not saved

I have been having a problem with sent messages using mac mail and my aol account. Occasionally the message will get hung up and will take a long time to send. The send progress bar fills up and the message is eventually sent, but it is not copies to my sent folder. This happens for about one out of every ten emails that I send.

Hello p:
Welcome to Apple discussions.
That is, I am relatively sure, an AOL server problem (happens to me occasionally).
You might try Open DNS (the free one) to see if it will address other possible problems.

  • Mail 3, smtp, IMAP: sent messages are not saved on server

    Hello,
I had problems using Mail 3 after I upgraded to Leopard, so I used Thunderbird for the time being. With the update 10.5.1 I tried again: most problems solved BUT: sent messages are not saved on the server in mailbox "Sent".
Some background: I deleted the folder "<User>/Library/Mail" and "<User>/Library/Preferences/com.apple.mail.plist" and configured Mail from scratch.
To be sure: I still have Thunderbird installed, and when I send with Thunderbird: a copy is placed in "Sent".
Another thing I noticed: it takes more than a minute to send from Mail 3 and a few seconds when I send from Thunderbird. I have another Macbook Pro with 10.5.0 installed: same problem with sending.
    Any help is appreciated.

Well, be stumped I did all that, but to be sure, I did it again:
I have a lot folders with subfolders and they are shown under my account name.
I created a new folder "test" in my IMAP account and designated it to be the new "Sent" folder. It replaces my previous Sent folder in the group Inbox, Drafts, Trash. My previous Sent folder now appears under my account name as a "normal" folder.
I send a message and the Activity monitor says: +"Delivering message: copying message"+. After a minute Mail is done. I check my (new) "Sent" folder and it's empty. I double check in webmail: it's empty.
So I go to the Finder and look in my IMAP folder: <user>/Library/Mail/<IMAP-account>/test.imapmbox and there is no folder "Messages", only Info.plist.
Then I try to move a message to the "Sent' folder: for a minute the Activity moinor says: Copying messages: copying message" and then Mail prompts: +"The message "testing" could not be+
+The connection to the server mail.hicetnunc.nl on port 143 timed out"+.
So it looks like Mail has a problem with the default "Sent" folder: it cannot copy messages to that folder at all! Aha!
But then I try to move a message to a "normal" IMAP folder: same thing! Mail cannot copy to any folder!
In both instances Mail says: +"The message "..." could not be be moved to the mailbox "..."+
+The connection to the server mail.hicetnunc.nl on port 143 timed out"+
Last thing: I try to move a message to a folder in the same account again. But in the process I quit Mail. I open Mail again and Mail is performing pending operations: copying message. After a while Mail prompts: +"Operation could not be completed. (MFMessageErrorDomain error 1028.)"+ and crashes... I open Mail again and it tries to peform pending operations. Again: an error message and Mail crashes. This keeps going on so I delete the whole account and set it up again. Nothing's changed...
I can receive and send, but sent messages are not copied to the "Sent" folder and I cannot move messages around within a IMAP account. But TADA!!!: I can move messages from account to account.

  • Sent Messages are not saved in Sent Mailbox

It was working correctly but suddenly all my sent messages are not saved in the Sent Mailbox. I follow all the Mail Help instructions but nothing seems to work. Hope that someone can help me. I asked for help on december 14 but it was not helpful

The mailboxes drawer contains all mailboxes under In, Drafts, Sent, Trash and Junk (if you have Junk Mail set to automatic).
If you have a .Mac or IMAP type account, you also have an account named icon for the .Mac or IMAP type account at the bottom of the mailboxes drawer. It is named by the Account Description you provided/entered for the account under the Account Information tab for the account preferences.
If you select save Sent messages on the server for a .Mac or IMAP type account, the account's Sent mailbox will be available under the account named icon in the mailboxes drawer along with all other server stored mailboxes.
To open the account named icon for your .Mac account to reveal the server stored mailboxes including the account's Sent mailbox, select the black triangle beside your .Mac account icon in the mailboxes drawer pointing it down.
Select the account's Sent mailbox and at the menu bar, go to Mailbox > Use This Mailbox For and select Sent.
If you deselect store Sent messages on the server for the account preferences, the account's Sent mailbox will be available under Sent in the mailboxes drawer and you can't use "Use This Mailbox For" for mailboxes stored locally on the hard drive. It can only be used for .Mac or IMAP type account mailboxes that are stored on the server.

Since upgrading to iOS7 some text messages are not being sent on my iPhone 5, iMessage on my Ipads and MacBook doesn't have my phone number registered and my reminder colour on my Iphone keeps changing ... among other things. Any suggestions to fix these faults?

Make sure People Sending you via iMessage are sending their messages on your PHONE number not on your EMAIL addresses . My sister had the same problem, thats how i managed to solve it!

  • Sent Messages are not allway saved

I use Mail with several imap account and for the last few weeks I recognized
that the emails I did sent were not allways saved in the 'sent messages' folder of the corresponding imap account. They are sent but they just dissapear, also on the imap server itself.
Deleting Envelope Index and restoring the sent folder did not solve this strange behavior.
It seems that sometimes it depends on wether an attachment was added to the mail or not.
But the sent messages _are saved_ when I first press the 'save as draft' button and right after that press the send button.
    Any ideas?

I've had the same problem for a while, even before Leopard. It definitely occurs more often when sending bigger messages (i.e. with attachments), and on slower connections (cell card, or even shaky wifi). Always unsettling when I notice it, and seriously frustrating when a Send fails and I've forgotten to Save as Draft.

  • Some incoming messages are not received in outlook

    Using Iphone 4.
Most of the time I receive messages from a POP account on the IPhone and on my Outlook2010 client. Once in a while I receive one or more on the IPhone and they never show up in Outlook.
This is DNSExist Squirrel mail server. The messages are not removed from the server account after they are received by the iPhone. Outlook is setup to remove the messages 1 day after they are received and appears to be doing so.
These messages come from different senders.
The Settings.Mail.Account.Advanced.DeleteFromServer setting is set to "Never".
Some of the messages appear to be flagged as received by IPhone in a way that make Outlook treat them like they have already been received.
I will post on DNSExist also

I believe that the messages sill show up eventually.
While I've no experience using Outlook with POP3, I have experience with Outlook 2011 on Mac and 2010 on Windows with Microsoft Exchange. Both OS X and Windows Outlook appear to have a bug whereby they defer display of new messages for a seemingly random amount of time (even if you tell it to "Send/Receive Messages" by clicking on the item in the ribbon or from the menu). The messages are on the server, and, if you monitor the messages in the activity bar at the bottom of the Outlook window, it seems to see the messages and transfer them, but they simply don't show up in the application.
Some messages appear immediately, others don't. We've not been able to determine precisely what differentiates those that do and those that don't. Some messages don't appear in Outlook for hours after they post on the server.
This is widely observed throughout the company, and home users report similar behavior (again, I can't tell if they are using POP3 or not).
We've reported the bug to Microsoft.
Your iPhone is doing the right thing. I know of no current fix or work-around for the bug in Microsoft Outlook.

  • Lion IMAP account - Sent messages are not sync

    Hi all,
this question is not strictly related to Lion, as this "problem" sussist even in the old Leopard, however I was believing it woul have been fixed with the new version.
I've my Mac Book Pro with all my email configured as IMAP.
This is great, I see my Inbox with the same exact copy of the message available online. When I send a message, this is stored in the sent mailbox, and this is great too.
But why all the old messages are not seen in the sent mailbox as well?
It doesn't make sense to me, and there is any option that make a difference. I was initially believing the "keep a local copy of the message" was affecting this.
But the most frustrating thing is that at the very bottom of the left aside there is a second entry, one for each account, which essentially show me a sort of "raw" account with all the folders and labelled messages as the online structure. Is it possible to get rid of that too?
    Many thanks
    Andrea

  • Windows Live mail - Imported sent messages are incorrectly displaying destination address

I imported Windows live mail messages from XP to 8.1... everything is ok except for the fact that the "Sent" messages are listed as sent to "the owners address" which is really the "source" address for all these old sent messages....Client
needs these back to how they were on the XP machine... This is a result of importing using the import tool method from the file menu, and the same result after I did it manually by dragging old files into the new "Windows live mail" sub-directory
(sent folder).... I think its a setting or something I need to change so I can either redo it....

  • Nokia Messaging: Sent emails are not saved on the ...

    Hi,
I use Nokia messaging (the latest -13 version) on a Nokia 5800. The server is a Imap server, not one of the automatically detected email providers. Sending and receiving of messages works. Unfortunately the messages are only saved locally on my phone, not on the server. How can I change that? How to I specifiy in which folder the messages are to be saved?

If you have performed a sync with the device since you restored this old backup, then don't bother looking for another backup. iTunes writes over the last backup each time you sync. If you were handling contacts in iCloud, you would find them by logging into iCloud. Or you can check settings and iCloud and see if the button it on for Contacts. Otherwise it might have been on the computer, if you had a program that syncs with iTunes and handles contacts, depending on the computer system you use. If Windows, it would be Windows Contacts or Outlook. If a Mac, there is a Mac Address book as well.

  • Some Sent messages are missing

My wife has noticed that about 5-10% of the emails she sends are not in the Sent folder. When we checked the Console it gives the following error:
Error (null) occurred while trying to append messages to outgoing store. Ignoring and proceeding delivery...
This is using an IMAP mailbox with our hosting company (not mobile me). There is an archived post in these forums with others reporting the same problem - but cannot find a way of fixing it. We have repaired permissions but it didn't help.

well guys, not that I am happy that this happens also to you... but at least I can say that it' is not only my problem, but a common problem.
Reading the console message, where do you guys think that the problem is comming from?
    Mail.app, Leopard, IMAP ¿?¿
came on! where are the mac gurus with some ideas about this problem!?!?

  • Sent messages are not sync'd with Entourage 2008 folders

1 week into the PC to Mac transition. All of my inbox messages were sync'd with Entourage but not the sent messages. I use comcast mail. I am able to send and receive messages.

I have a similar occasional problem with an IMAP account using a Comcast Business Class Exchange server. I use Mail and my iPhone to access the account; I'm running OS X 10.6.4 on my laptop but my "sent messages" issue predates the latest release.
The first time I noticed this issue I thought, "I'll just access my mail via the Comcast web portal. It'll be in the 'sent' folder there." No dice. The "sent" messages simply never stay on the server, yet my recipients get them.
It's distressing. First, the solution would appear to be a switch to a MS mail client, which I swore off years ago. Second, I rely on having a "sent" message as a record. I switched off IDLE per your suggestion, Ernie, but otherwise I'm in the same boat as the others here. Please keep this thread alive. I'm hopeful that this can be resolved.

  • My Macbook Air does not show up on my network to any of my other computers, Other computers on my network appear and disappear, some shared folders are not accessible

My Macbook Air with Lion does not show up on my network to any of my other computers (PC's) , even though it is connected to my wifi and does access the Internet. In addition, my other computers sometimes show up in Finder and sometimes they're not there. Sometimes they do show in Finder and when I click on them, I get "Connection Failed", other times, they connect. Also some shared folders on those other computers, which are PC's are not accessible, even though fully shared. My network is Apple Airport Extreme and works perfectly otherwise, including all PC's being able to see each other. Help would be much appreciated

I got the same problem. I want to access my shared folder on my home windows7 from my MBA. Tried many suggestions on the web but all to no avail. I thought that should be very trivial. Maybe a Lion bug?

  • Yahoo Mail: New Inbox Messages Are Not Downloaded To iPhone

Keywords: iPhone, Yahoo, mail, push, slow, broken, stopped, inbox, new messages, IMAP
    Problem Description:
I just went through an entire day of restarting, restoring, reconfiguring my iPhone after the Mail App stopped downloading new messages from my Yahoo Inbox. Other folders could receive new messages, but not the Inbox.
After trying to get help from Apple support and Yahoo, I kept searching online. I managed to find a solution that worked and I thought I'd share this here in case anyone else has run into this problem, which I believe is a Yahoo issue, not an Apple one.
    Solution:
From a web browser do the following
    - Log into your Yahoo Mail account via mail.yahoo.com
    - Create a new folder in Yahoo Mail (I called it "Archive")
    - Move ALL MESSAGES from your Inbox to this new folder ("Archive" in my case)
    - Send yourself a test message
After performing these steps (essentially archiving your Inbox to another folder), you should start receiving Yahoo Inbox messages again on your iPhone. After I performed the above procedure, Yahoo Mail has been more responsive than ever before on the iPhone - even faster than my old BlackBerry...
It seems as though the Yahoo IMAP server gets really slow or malfunctions when either there is a corrupt message or the Inbox gets too large (not sure which). It would be really cool if someone from Yahoo (or Apple) could confirm this.
I'd be interested to see if anyone else has run into this issue and if this procedure solves the issue for you... I know for me, I will be periodically Archiving my Inbox to another folder to keep things operating smoothly.
    Good Luck!

    Hmm.. this seems to work..
I emptied both "Spam" and "Trash" folder on a browser. After that, new emails seem to push to iPhone right away now. Let's see how long this will last..
Does that mean that I would have to make sure there's no email in these two folders to make push work at all time?
