AOL email and Firefox Help do not open unless Internet Explorer has been open first

Only an AD banner at the top of the window opens. The rest of the window is blank. Only noticed this problem after the AOL problem, after I tried to get help.
When trying to open AOL email, all of the usual connection paths used by AOL constantly cycle through over and over, like an endless loop. There is no end to it until I click the "stop loading this page" button.

First, try to update to Firefox 12, see if that fixes the issue, If it doesn't, will Firefox open in [[Safe Mode]]?

    Hello darkhawk,
Thank you for the recommendation.  I somewhat understand what a MS DOS disk is, but I'm not sure how to go about creating one. I've seen where you can use a program, like Rufus, to create a usb one  - but I'm leery about using 3rd-party programs (especially ones I'm not familiar with). I've come across a couple of 'how-to' tuts, but they didn't clarify what files (if any) I would need to include on the disk (for my particular situation). Right now I don't have any blank cds, nor any extra flash/thumb drives - wish I did, but hadn't needed these for years. There has only been one other time where I needed to re-install Windows, but that was over 15 years ago - I did it through BIOS, reformatting my drives, and then reinstalled via the Windows XP disk. Windows 8 is an entirely different breed, which has left me feeling a bit stumped, at times. If there was a way I could perform it (successfully), similar to the first time I did it years ago, I'd give it a try - but at the same time, I'm a bit reluctant, because if it doesn't work, then I'm stuck without any internet access to get further help.
Ask and ye shall receive. This should be doable in Windows 7 and Windows 8 on another PC. I recommend using a USB Flash drive like in this tutorial, but I'm sure you could use something else.
If you want, you could also use Hiren's BootCD to make a bootable CD with many options and programs on it (I keep one, just for certain situations) that will allow you to do the same things.

Also very useful for sorting out virus's as long as it's downloaded and made on another PC that is virus free......

  • Since upgrade I sometimes can't login to aol email, and I always can NOT logoff. I have to totally close outof browser.

Sometimes I am not able to login to my aol email account - the mail icon isn't active. If I can login, I can never log backoff. Again, the email icon is not active. The inability to login is sporadic. The inability to logoff is all the time. I know it isn't an aol problem but a Firefox browser issue as I am able to perform both login/logoff functions as normal when I use either Internet Explorer or Safari browsers.

I too have found Safari ridiculously slow in the last month. It seems to have some correlation to Safari update 3.2. I thought maybe my computer was just getting too full but my son just got a brand new mac book pro last week and his Safari is almost as slow. Anyone know if it has to do with the latest Safari update?

  • Email links to open a web page do not display in my email using Firefox. They do display using Internet Explorer. Why?

My email account on Network Solutions site no longer show links sent to me. Someone sent me an email with a link for me to click on to fill out an online form. The link did not display. If I forward the email to another account, I can see the links. If I open the email in Explorer, it also displays the link. Why does Firefox 18 not display the links?

hello, please go through the steps covered in [[Websites look wrong or appear differently than they should]] - maybe they will contain a solution for the issue you've described...

This "original file cannot be found" thing happens if the file is no longer where iTunes expects to find it. Possible causes are that you or some third party tool has moved, renamed or deleted the file, or that the drive it lives on has had a change of drive letter. It is also possible that iTunes has changed from expecting the files to be in the pre-iTunes 9 layout to post-iTunes 9 layout,or vice-versa, and so is looking in slightly the wrong place.
Select a track with an exclamation mark, use Ctrl-I to get info, then cancel when asked to try to locate the track. Look on the summary tab for the location that iTunes thinks the file should be. Now take a look around your hard drive(s). Hopefully you can locate the track in question. If a section of your library has simply been moved, or a drive letter has changed, it should be possible to reverse the actions.
Alternatively, as long as you can find a location holding the missing files, then you should be able to use my FindTracks script to reconnect them to iTunes .

  • RichEditableText: Control+z for undo works in firefox but does not work in internet explorer (ie)

    Hi,
I was doing some testing with RichEditableText and realized that the undo and redo when called by keyboard (Control + Z) in Internet Explorer does not work.
    Thanks,

Hi, Gordon Smith, thanks for answer.
I tried to pass a javascript event to the flash but still the IE does not fire, but by the way there is no way around this situation.
    With javascript I tried
document.attachEvent("onkeydown") but doesnt work, this not fires with flash over.

  • When I play videos (e.g. YouTube) the videos freeze. Have tried Safe Mode and resetting Firefox. Does not happen with Internet Explorer.

I have disabled hardware acceleration. Note that the video freezes, but the computer has not locked up; only FF is impacted. If I open Task Manager and click End Task, the video resumes and will finish playing as long as I leave the Confirm Close dialog box open, but when the video ends I cannot return to normal FF operation and have to use Task Manager to shut down FF. Hardware is an HP 6730b business notebook running Win7 Home Premium 64 bit, SP1, 4 GB RAM. The issue is not limited to YouTube videos.

Try to disable hardware acceleration in Firefox.
*Tools > Options > Advanced > General > Browsing: "Use hardware acceleration when available"
You can check for problems with current Flash plugin versions and try these:
*disable a possible RealPlayer Browser Record Plugin extension for Firefox and update the RealPlayer if installed
*disable protected mode in the Flash plugin (Flash 11.3+ on Windows Vista and later)
*disable hardware acceleration in the Flash plugin

  • Is there a way to tell if a received email contains an attachment to tell the sender if it has been opened?

I received an email with no attachment (and no indication in the text that there should be an attachment) but it also has the paper clip icon. This makes me wonder if the sender is checking to see if I've opened the email. Is there any way to find out (apart from asking directly)?

Thank you for such a prompt reply. It was just a regular, personal type email, which is what made me wonder about the attachment icon. Anyway, you've answered my question in that there's no way to find out so I'll stop worrying about it. Thanks again.

  • Recording info about how long an application has been open?

Hi. I would like to set up some kind of log that tells me when I've opened a particular application (Final Cut Pro) and how long (how many minutes/hours) the application has been open for that particular session or that particular day.
Ideally, the log would have the new information appended to the end of it each day; it wouldn't delete/refresh/overwrite itself -- so at the end of, say, six months, I could look at the log and see, Oh, I used Final Cut on Tuesday, April whatever, for 10 hours, and then on Friday, May whatever, for another 12 -- without having to know about any other activity with any other application on my system.
Is there an easy way to do this with OS X 10.4.5? Can Automator do this for me? (Didn't notice an FCP icon in the library of applications Automator can act upon.) Do I need to use AppleScript?
    Thanks!
    PowerMac G5   Mac OS X (10.4.5)

    Hi, R.G.
You might also want to look into some of these applications.
When looking for new applications, I recommend searching MacUpdate or Version Tracker. The user-submitted reviews accompanying the listings are helpful in sorting the wheat from the chaff.
    Good luck!

  • Firefox is set as default but Internet Explorer sometimes conflicts

On the whole, firefox works well and is set as my default internet browser. Sometimes though, if someone sends me something where internet explorer has been used, I get Internet Exlorer trying to open but all that happens is that the window continually opens and closes and goes completely haywire until I shut down the whole computer. This only happens when someone sends me something where they have used I.Explorer. I avoid it all costs even though I sstill have the program on the computer obviously.

You got to do 2 things to solve this:
    1) Open Firefox -> go to Tools Menu -> Options -> Advanced
-> System Defaults section -> put a Checkmark on "Always check to see if Firefox is the default browser on startup".
    -> Click OK.
    2) Open My Computer -> go to Control Panel -> Internet Properties -> Programs
-> at the bottom Remove Checkmark from "Internet Explorer should check to see whether it is the default browser.
    -> Click OK.
    Check if its working.
