AOL Instant Message PW Error

Since updating to 10.7.2, I'm getting this annoying pop up error message about AOL instant messaging password error. The message states: iChat can’t log in to @mac.com because your login ID or password is incorrect. I don't use ichat and want the message to stop, so what do I do?

In iChat go to the iChat Menu > Preferences > Accounts
In here go to the Server Setting tab/Button for your @mac.com name
Disable (Untick) the SSL option.
Make sure the NON SSL server reads login.oscar.aol.com
This is the most common issue if the name worked before.
The other issue is having a @Mac.com name with a password that is longer than 16 characters.
If you are just getting around to using the @Mac.com in ICHat you will need to shorten the Password due to the Limit AIM has on checking passwords.

I have an unlocked AT&T Treo 680 that I am using on t-mobile. I have the AT&T 2.11 software already installed on the device but I have not been able to connect to instant messaging and receive the internal error 500 code.

AOL Instant Messaging File Transfer Problem

Hey guys, I recently got a Macbook, I changed from Windows and am just getting used to the layout and everything. I downloaded AIM, and have gone and tried to do File Transfers but a window pops up that prevents me from doing so. I went to Preferences and set all the correct Firewall and Fire Transfer options, yet still, a message comes up, saying
"The File Transfer with [friend] failed. A proxy connection error occurred.The connection may have timed-out while waiting for your buddy to connect to the AOL proxy server."
Please help as soon as possible!

First, don't bother with AIM software - Just use iChat. iChat is a Universal app and AIM is not.
It can use your AIM account. Had you done a file transfer with this person before?
Some servers don't play well with others, plus if the other user is on AOL software, I haven't been able to ever make that work.

Instant Messaging Internal Errors

It's been a while since I used iChat to IM with my brother (a PC user)--probably haven't tried it since I got the new iMac with 10.4. Now suddenly, every few characters I type bring up an error message that reads like this:
NSInvalidArgumentException:
* -[NSCFArray addObject:]: attempt to insert nil

Well, it's an interesting start. As soon as I selected Check Spelling... I got the now-familiar error message. As soon as I typed a few characters, I got the error message. Don't know if that confirms or clarifies anything, but the problem certainly hasn't gone away.
I looked at your webpage (and thank you for it), but a couple things aren't matching: there is no Computer Collection, and no User Collection. Both Helvetica and Lucida Grande appear in the All Fonts Collection, and both certainly appear to be active. But holding the cursor over them reveals nothing; right-clicking doesn't pull up any info either. (Whereas holding the cursor over the option buttons at the top of the window does reveal info.)
So what does one do if one has a problem with Spaces? I'm rather fond of them, myself.

Can't download AOL Instant Messaging

After attempting to download and install AIM on a new MacBook Pro, I get the following error from Archive Utility: Unable to unarchive "aim-2.bin" into Downloads. Error 45-operation not supported.
I believe I should be able to install AIM. Any suggestions welcome.

Same as the others - Use iChat and input your AIM screen name, making sure to choose the AIM extension and not the .mac selection.
All your buddies will be automatically downloaded and you'll be up and running in no time. And you'll be much happier with iChat than that old AIM software junk

Leopard and AOL Instant Messaging

I just bought a MacBook Pro and it will not allow me to open the aim.bin- says "unable to unarchive, error 45 operation not supported"
how do i fix this? Is there a security preference I am unaware of?

When you close your iBook, all of the applications are suspended. This prevents overheating and ruining your display. In short, there's no way to easily work around this.
You could disable the sleep mode through a hardware hack, I believe, but I'd highly not recommend it.

I would like to know if it's possible to send instant messages to a cell phone from my mac..

Depends on the standards supported by your cell phone. Skype does exist for PowerPC.
iChat supports ICQ and AOL instant messaging as well Jabber based chat standards. If you can get one of these, you can go through iChat.

lorsque je souhaite me connecter sur "messages" systèmatiquement il m ouvre une fenetre AOL Instant Messenger et me demande d entrer mon mot de passe pour le compte en question. Jusque là OK
mais quand j entre mon mot de passe, il me dit que l identifiant ou le mot de passe n est pas correct, du coup impossible de me connecter avec un quelconque compte "hotmail"
Si quelqu un avait une solution...

When I want to connect on "messages" it prompted systematically (m) opens a window AOL Instant Messenger and asks me to enter my password to the account in question. OK so far
but when j between my password, it tells me the username or the password is not correct, the coup not I connect with any account "hotmail"

Messages will connect to any Screen Name valid with AIM listed in the System Preferences > Mail, Contacts and Calendars and enabled for Messages (Or listed in the Messages > Preferences > Accounts)
Same for Jabber IDs (Includes Facebook iDs and GoogleMail IDs)
It will not do MSN/Hotmail/Live IDs without a bit of work

Do you have an Apple ID ending in @mac.com or @me.com as these are Valid AIM names ?
Or do you have an AIM Screen Name already ?

I have followed all the steps in order to use the instant messaging capabilities, but when we try to use it we got the following message:
Could not open a new instant messaging session. All invitees
are offline. Try again later.
How we can do ir order to use this functionality ?

The Prerequisite to use Instant Messenger are:
1. You and the intended recipients are logged on to the portal.
2. Your availability status in the portal and that of the intended recipients must be online.

As in any messenger the user's can set available or invisible in here also. Have all the users set their status to auto-detect in the CLP.
Select a user and then select chat.

IChat was unable to login to AOL Instant Messenger!

I've been unable to log into iChat with my @me.com username for the last week. Every time I try to set my status to Available I get this message:
AOL Instant Messenger Login
iChat was unable to login to AOL Instant Messenger because your screen name or password was incorrect.
Is this happening to anyone else? Will it ever be fixed? My Login ID and Password are the same as they've always been. Nothing's changed at my end. So why can't I get online with iChat?

You're lucky. I tried deleting my MobileMe account within iChat, and re-adding it, but I still have the same error message. I haven't been able to use iChat for coming up to a month now

iChat (it would help to know which version) can accept Apple IDs as valid AIM Screen Names.
However if you have iChat 5 or earlier you cannot use ones ending in @me.com or @icloud.com issued by iCloud. (they can be used in iChat 6 or Messages as these versions make a double login to AIM and Apple to allow the use of the password).
In addition if you are using an Apple ID for an AIM Screen Name the password still needs to keep to the 16 character limit that AIM has.
AN @mac.com name can be used on any version of iChat (Until the 30th June 2014)
As it does not need a double check with Apple you can use it to log in to the AIM Web pages
Login here with an AIM Name registered at AIM or and @mac.com name and see if you get any suspended account messages.
Sometimes account can be suspended. Usually because something has triggered the "Unusual Activity" item.
About a year ago many @mac.com users that travelled out of their own country found themselves suspended when they got home.
If the Name checks out of if an Apple ID the password in known to be 16 characters or Less then do this:-
In Lion upwards open a Finder Window and use the Go Menu whilst holding down the ALT key.
Select the Library that appears in the menu list.
Navigate to Preferences.
(If you have version earlier than Lion the just navigate to ~/Library/Preferences (that's the Library in you Home - Little House icon - folder)
Fnd com.apple.ichat.aim.plist (even if you are using Messages)
Drag the file to the Trash and Restart the app.

Not able to send instant message through CLP

Hello All,
I am a beginner in portals.
I am doing a test assignment on collaboration.
1.I have enabled the Collaboration Launch Pad.
2.Now when I click on the link, CLP opens. I have added some contacts to it.
3.Then I tried to send an instant message and then I get the error:
Could not open a new instant-messaging session. All invitees are offline. Try again later.
I know that some configurations need to be done to be able to send the instant message.
Please let me know the configuration steps for the same or any relevant document.
Please help me with this.

Please check the collaboration contacts is portal users.
Make sure that other portal user also logged in the portal for sending instance message.
OR you can try to loging with two differnet portal userid and try to use instant-messaging functinality by sending message.

Problem with instant message in clustered environment

Hello, I have some problem with Instant Message service.
We need to use it in our Production Environment (a clustered emvironment with a central instance, two dialog instances and two web dispatchers), some months ago we tested it in Development Environment (not clustered emvironment, just a single system) and it worked fine.
So I did the same configurations on Production Environment but it did not work.
But if I access on my portal (Production Env.) by the central instance (avoiding the dispatchers) the instant message service works.
I think it can be a web dispatcher's configuration problem, in its logs I found the message :
"<i>[Thr 3700] *** ERROR => htmlEncode: called with empty string [icpif.cpp 847]</i>"
I' ve repeated the same configuration done in Dev.Env. (no dispatcher) on the Prod.Env. (with 2 dispatcher), is possible that I'm missing some configurations??
Could someone helps me?
