AOL ISSUES

several times now, i've received photos embedded within an AOL email. these pix were all created/saved with iPhoto...but when i transfer them to my Desktop, they will not open in iPhoto/JPEGVIEW/Photoshop/Preview/anything. i get all kinds of error prompts: "unknown format"/etc...which is bizarre.
anybody have a workaround for this?
best...
cb

Hi cb,
check the file type of the photos. They might be an AOL format with a proprietary compression format. I would find out from the senders if they could change their AOL settings to not use the AOL compression.
You can feel free to send me the file so I can check it out. My email is in my profile.

  • My AOL mail is suddenly printing out in teeny-tiny font that I can't control!!?? Also realized my mail minimizes instead of closing!! Thought it was an AOL issue but neither of these things happen through IE. Is there a fix?

    Thanks.

    Dathan,
First of all, Welcome to the Discussions!
I see that Peggy, in the "Feedback About Discussions" forum has directed you here. I and others will be glad to try to sort out your problem if we can.
I might be confused by your post but did you try to repair (Volume Macintosh HD) via your install cd or from the HD disk utility or are you asking what is meant by repairing the Volume Macintosh HD? Was this a message you received from the Apple Hardware Test (AHT) cd? It sounds as if you might be asking how to run the Repair Disk function from the Disk Utility and this will need to be done from your install CD.
If so, you will insert the install cd #1 while holding down the "c" key when restarting (release the "c" when you come to the installer spash screen) you will come to the desktop with the install splash screen. IGNORE this and go directly to your top menus>Installer Menu>Disk Utility and when disk utility opens select your Macintosh HD and then Repair Disk. No need to run the Verify Disk function. Run this a few time if it finds errors that it cannot repair and then post back if it cannot repair them and make note of what it cannot repair.

  • Aol mail not working in Mac Mail

I have had this problem several times and it's getting rather irritating. The SMTP servers are not responding. The following message keeps coming up:
Sending the message content to the server failed.
Select a different outgoing mail server from the list below or click Try Later to leave the message in your Outbox until it can be sent.
After changing ports and following the numerous suggestions experienced by countless others with the same problem time and time again I still have found no solid reason as to why this happens or how to simply resolve the issue.
If anyone with knowledge and experience can shed any light on this troublesome problem then please make yourselves known.
I have followed threads and made all the correct adjustments including deleting and creating a new email account. Is this an AOL issue or a Mac issue? The mail works fine on the ipad and iphone.
I have also tried using different wifi and cable connections with the macbook I have my account installed on. It's the latest software 10.8.4 and a macbook pro 13'. 2011 model.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks.

    Hello Chris,
Thank you for so much information about the issue you are experiencing with your AOL account in Mail.  You have taken some really great troubleshooting steps, but I recommend reviewing this article to further isolate and troubleshoot the issue:

  • Firefox closes ALL tabs & exits when I ONLY close the AOL Mail tab.

When I have maybe 5 or 6 tabs open, and I am done with my AOL mail tab and close it ONLY, the entire window with all of my pages close out. My system is set to recover the last tabs I had open, but when I reopen Firefox (I have to manually, the system does not even restart it), everything is gone. I tried opening AOL mail in another separate window, and this still happens (when I close out the AOL page only). I checked my updates and Firefox is the newest. I run both my security software programs 2 times per day, along with STOPzilla. It clears cookies and I have never had an issue until this past week. I have not downloaded anything new. All is fine as long as I do not open AOL mail. Thinking this was an AOL issue, I contacted them, and they assure me that it must be my issue (of course). I then removed and deleted the Firefox program and re-downloaded it....still no help.
I am using the latest AOL mail, and cannot help but wonder if there is something in that which causes me to lose everything. It's frustrating because none of my tabs are kept, even though I have it set to caution me before the Firefox window is closed, and remember my tabs for "next time."

  • Is this a computer problem or an AOL problem?

When I bring my e-mail up on my laptop, sometimes in the upper right corner of the screen a note comes up for a second and disappears that says my email is unavailable. I'm wondering why that is happening and what does it mean? Is it a problem with my wifi or a glitch with my laptop. I have no clue. Can anyone help me figure this out?
    Thanks,

    suze,
please provide the full model number of your computer.  it is printed on the back.  do not provide the serial number.
can you take a picture of what you are talking about and attach it to your reply?  Likely this is a AOL issue, and you may want to go to their forum and post in there as well.

Start Firefox in <u>[[Safe Mode]]</u> to check if one of the extensions or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox (Tools) > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).

  • Trouble reading my AOL e-mail page.

I use Firefox to access my AOL and Verizon accounts. Approx 2 months ago, after an upgrade from an earlier version of Firefox to the current version, I began to experience issues with accessing my AOL e-mail page. The page displays in a very tiny, almost impossible to read, font size. I cannot locate anyway to correct this and make the page display in the normal size as it did previously. Accessing the same page thru IE produces normal results, so I am led to believe that it is not an AOL issue.
All other pages, websites, etc, display in normal sizes, both on AOL and Verizon.
Anyone have any ideas, thoughts or suggestions on this?

Have you tried [[Font size and zoom - increase the size of web pages|Firefox's zoom feature]]? This will help increase the size of web pages, which you may have inadvertently decreased. ''(Firefox remembers that setting for future visits.)''
    * To make things bigger, press '''Ctrl''' and '''&#43''' at the same time.
    * To make things smaller, press '''Ctrl''' and '''-''' at the same time.
    * To reset the size back to normal, press '''Ctrl''' and '''0''' at the same time.
You can also use the [https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/2592/ NoSquint]. add-on to change the default zoom level for all websites at once. After setting your global zoom level, you can still fine-tune the zoom on individual sites.
    '''Using NoSquint:'''
#After installing NoSquint, make sure you have the Add-on Bar displayed:
#*Right-click the new tab button ("+") or a blank area of the tab bar to the right of it and choose Add-on Bar from the shortcut menu.
#Click the % on the Add-on Bar to call up site preferences, then click the Global Settings button, then the Zooming tab.
#*You can experiment with sizes larger than 125%, but it's not recommended that you go higher than 150% unless you have a large high-resolution monitor.
If there are particular sites that still present a problem, feel free to post their URLs.
Please let us know if this helped you!

  • Lost my email connection with AOL

I have been using my Ipad for some time and emailing without a problem until now.
Not sure if the new HP ePrinter has something to do with it, but it did work for a few days now I can receive emails but not send them. HELP

Look at this discussion. There are a few different things that you can try to resolve the issue.
    https://discussions.apple.com/thread/2582847?start=0&tstart=0
I don't think it is an AOL issue. I have 2 AOL accounts that work flawlessly on my iDevices and always have worked without a bit of trouble.

  • Aol and sending mail

I have aol on my itouch...I can receive mail but cannot send. Error message says smtp.aol.com failed...what does that mean and how do I fix it?

We just purchase our ITouch last night,March 7th, and we have the same AOL issue. We can receive email but we can not send email. Have you solved your problem yet with the AOL server?

  • AOL and iCloud email problem - any ideas?

    Hey everyone!
I have three email accounts — gmail, aol and iCloud (which migrated from mobileme).  Recently only the gmail will work in Apple mail on my iMac.  I have attempted to remove the accounts in system preferences under mail contacts and calendars and add them back but it's failing.  With AOL, it says Connection failed. This also happens if I use outlook for mail instead of Apple Mail.  With iCloud, all services will turn on except Mail/Notes.  It will look like it's on then you browse away from the setup window and go back and it's been turned off.
I've been reading about issues with iCloud mail, but am confused now with the AOL issue as well, which I haven't seen listed anywhere.
So far, I have created a new user and the problem persists.  I also installed a fresh copy of lion over my copy (not an erase and install, just a reinstall leaving my files in tact).  When I attempt this on my MacBook running 10.7.2, I have neither problem.  All my accounts work perfectly.
I'd apppreciate any suggestions you might have!
    Michael

I just wanted to update this in hopes someone can recommend a solution.
I erased my drive today and tested it and it worked. I restored from a time machine backup and it stopped working.  Then I erased again, verified it was working and manually placed my files back on the machine.  After reinstalling all my store, it stopped again. Clearly, there's something installed in the system that is conflicting with the mail setup. I was wondering if anyone has any suggestions. The problem persists on other uses on the machine, so it isn't user specific.

  • Anyone else having a problem sending mail from their AOL account?

Everytime I try and send an email from my Iphone it says my aol password is wrong.  anyone else having this problem?

YES, there are actually several posts about this problem today.  It seems that most of use are able to receive mail, and I was able to send mail until about 3 this afternoon.  AT&T reset my network settings, but that did not help.  I called AOL, but since I use their email for free and am not a paying customer, I couldn not get any help.  But I thnk it might be an AOL issue.  I am able to log into my AOL email on my desktop,so it's definitly a correct user name and password.

  • Push isn't working for email on iPhone or iPad using aol

Push isn't working for my email on iPhone and iPad for aol carrier

I have the paid AOL accounts, and they were supposed to get back to me today and have not, thus far. It has to be an issue with AOL's email server.  The tech that I spoke to over the weekend said that he thought that it may be an issue with their server.  Almost 3 weeks ago, AOL's email server was hacked.  They said that 2% of their accounts were affected, and one of my AOL accounts was in that 2%.  They didn't admit for over a week that it was their server that had been hacked, and instead made everyone affected think that it had been their own computers that had been hacked.  I have to believe that this is an AOL issue again.  Everything was working fine with my iPhone and my iPad, and suddenly my email was nolonger being pushed on Thurs night/early Friday.  If I get an answer from AOL, I will certainly post it here.

  • AOL email sync not working

This one is brutal. I live in NJ and work in NYC. I am able to get AOL emails on my Pre all day and night when I am in NJ. However, when I come into Manhattan I stop receiving emails practically from the moment I step out of Penn Station until about 5pm.
It sounds strange but on any given day I will have emails waiting in my inbox in the morning, then when I get into the city they stop coming. The phone will attempt to update the inbox and it will state the last time it actually DID update (which is usually around the time I get into the city). I will get AOL emails on my iPhone and laptop all day, but not the Pre; that is until about 5-5:30, at that point I get all the emails I missed and they come as read.
I tried replacing the phone, no go, by the way they have exchanged the phone for me twice already so this is my 3rd Pre and they all do the SAME Thing. I have had Sprint and Palm upgrade this to Level II tech support, they are dumbfounded. AOL won't even talk with me and they insist that I speak to the hardware manufacturer. I have tried every type of possible settings options with both Palm and Sprint to no avail. Now I am passed the 30 day refund policy so I am stuck with this phone. I thought maybe it's an SSL issue and I noticed that my certificate manager was empty, Palm said that it had nothing to do with this issue, but then again they don't have a solution for me yet!
It's a joke. Has anyone seen this issue??? Can anyone help me here??? I really like the phone but with this issue it will never be an iPhone killer for me. And I would hate to think that I am the only one with this issue.
    Any advise?
Post relates to: Pre p100eww (Sprint)

From what I am gathering it is an AOL issue not Palm. I have been in touch with AOL tech support (the biggest joke) and they have been unable to help. The issue needs to be resolved thru AOL server support. The only issue is that WE cannot reach out to them, only AOL support can write up a ticket and send it to them. Here is the rub; you never get to know if they can or cannot repair the issue because they never contact the end user. So For the past 4 weeks I have been calling tech support and having them create a follow up report on the issue. It's a waste of time from what I am seeing but I have no choice.
I have since notified all of my friends and family that I now have a Gmail account, I have my AOL forwarded to the gmail account and set up my gmail account on the Pre. The only issue with that is for some of the people that send email to you it may be confusing because while you get the AOL emails it sent to your gmail account (meaning people are emailing you to AOL.com) you can only reply with Gmail, so some of the less tech savvy people may get confused. I was fortunate to get the same user name for both accounts; drvsafe; so that is at least one less thing for people to think about. but it is a bit disapointing that this issue couldnt be resolved. Keep me in the loop if you manage to get a better result or are able to resolve it and I will dothe same.

  • AOL Email not functioning now

Second major flaw in the first week. The AOL mail is not visible for either mine or my wife's phones although they were this weekend after the accounts were set up.
I tried to verify the settings, but the help in other posts did not match my menu. I have refreshed, resync'd, and restarted. I have attempted to install another account, remove the current account and reinstall but I get an error message that I have "invalid status 503 80318". Gmail works fine, but I do not use it. This is after my old phone was somehow restored in the account the day after I activated the new phone, thereby shutting down the data exchange completely. My confidence level in the phone and  Verizon is dropping fast.

    Hi WStollings,
I understand your discontent. I would be frustrated if my email application did not work as expected. I checked my resources and the AOL issue outlined on your post is not listed as a known issue for this device. Please ensure that you have the latest software application installed on your phones. If you received the Upgrade to Gingerbread and issue started after the update try doing a Factory Reset as this tend to resolve most issues after a major software upgrade.
Please keep in mind that performing a hard reset will remove ALL data including the Google account, system data, application data, application settings, and downloaded applications.
Additionally, if you want to avoid doing factory resets, an AOL Mail application may be available from the Android market that could resolve the issue without doing a factory reset. Please note that Verizon Wireless does not support third party applications and any third party application issues must be addressed with the application developer.

  • No AOL email

I'm trying to eliminate the possibilities here... recently my wife noticed she wasn't receiving email from a client who mails with an AOL account. Then we thought of two more people who weren't getting through to her who are AOL users. I'm using OSX 10.3.9 with Verizon DSL and Apple Mail 1.3.11(v622/624). I don't know if it's an Apple Mail problem, a Verizon problem, or an AOL issue. My wife is loosing money from potential clients who would otherwise be ordering make-up. Has anyone had this happen or know of anything similar? Thanks very much.

What type of mail account are you using to receive those messages (POP, IMAP)? If POP, what are the Preferences > Accounts > Advanced > Remove copy from server settings?
Do you have any custom rules in Mail? Have you tried searching for those messages in Mail? In particular, have you checked whether they are in Trash or in Junk.
