Aol tool bar has taken over program at startup

I read the other thread on this, and no help. When I open FFX 18 a popup appears prompting me to change my homepage to AOL and use AOL security page program. I did not solicit this add-on. Things I have tried: I can not use restart FFX because I can not use any of the functions of the browser with out accepting the pop up offer. Used task manager to shut down, but program restarts with same pop up. NO AOL program shows in programs list under contol panel to unistall. Have already unistalled and reinstalled FFX and pop up cam right back. HELP mozilla is my favorite browser, but I can't use.
Windows 7/pro hp p dv6

As I mentioned I have already viewed those threads. They do not help. When the pop up appears, no other function of the program is usable, including closing the program, or the program start menu. thus restart firefox, troubleshooting, etc. can not be used. The program can only be closed from the task manager at this point. There is no cancel or option out in the pop up window. unistalling and reinstalling FFX did not solve the problem. FFX starts with the AOL tool bar already intalled and the pop up asking to set AOL/AOL hompage security as the default home page. There are NO request from OS for permission from a program to change computer. I am not going to click on this box. I don't think it even has anything to do with AOL. This problems is not affecting versions of FFX on other computers. I have norton internet security and a macaffee security programs running. A full system scan has not turned up any problems. FFX is currently unistalled from my computer. A recent HP bios update and Java update have been installed? I have not resorted to a system restore yet. Am also working with norton to find problem, as well as here. Others have this problem... any help appreciated.

    The program that has taken over Firefox is called "inbox." I have disabled its cookies, but now, of course, I can't use the Firefox no matter who had taken it over.
    This is serious. I can' find the files with any routine search of my computer files, so they must be hidden.

    Do a malware check with some malware scan programs. You need to scan with all programs because each program detects different malware. Make sure that you update each program to get the latest version of the database before doing a scan.

  • I recently updated Firefox and something called Fantistic Games has taken over my homepage and I can't get rid of it.

    I used to get a field of 9 options to open when I opened a new page by clicking on the + button on the right side of the Search tab. After I updated Firefox a couple of days ago, my homepage had been taken over by something called "Fantasti Games". I can't find it anywhere to uninstall "Fantisti Games". I now have Google come up as my homepage when I open Mozilla Firefox, but each tab that I open comes up with the "FantastiGames" search engine. I need to get rid of that from my computer and revert back to what I had before, which was when I opened a new tab, I got nine large icons on the screen that gave me the choice of common sites to go to (such as AOL, YouTube, Weather.com, Google, etc.). Please tell me how to uninstall "FantastiGames".

    This is embarrassing. It sounds like you have a third party program that has taken over your search engine, home page, and/or the default new tab page. Fortunately, this can be remedied easily:
    # At the top of the Firefox window, click on the Firefox button (Tools menu in Windows XP), and then click Add-ons. The Add-ons Manager tab will open.
    # In the Add-ons Manager tab, select the Extensions panel.
    # Select the toolbar you wish to remove.
    # Click the remove button.
    # Click "Restart now" if it pops up. Your tabs will be saved and restored after the restart.
    After Firefox restarts, install the [https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/searchreset/ Search Reset Tool]. This will remove the rest of the traces of this program from your Firefox.

  • HT1338 installation has taken over 2 days. wont let my computer restart

    my installation of the new iphoto has taken over two days with out completion. computer wont let me restart. is it a virous or a glitch. please help

    Hi franontheedge, when you revert to a restore point, you may roll back your Firefox further than desired, for example, losing recently added bookmarks or saved passwords. It might be preferable to clean out the unwanted software by hand. If you have 10 minutes...
    I suggest:
    (1) Open the Windows '''Control Panel''', Uninstall a Program (or for XP Add/Remove Programs). After the list loads, click the "Installed on" column heading to group the infections, I mean, additions, by date. This can help in smoking out undisclosed bundle items that snuck in with some software you agreed to install. Take out as much trash as possible here.
    (2) open the '''Add-ons page''' using either:
    * Ctrl+Shift+a
    * "3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons
    In the left column, click Plugins. Set nonessential and unrecognized plugins to "Never Activate".
    In the left column, click Extensions. Then, if in doubt, disable (or Remove, if possible) unrecognized and unwanted extensions.
    Often a link will appear above at least one disabled extension to restart Firefox. You can complete your work on the tab and click one of the links as the last step.
    (3) With the above removed, you can update your home page if it's not already back to normal. These articles have more details on how:

  • I cannot get rid of the AOL tool bar. I use FF 14.0.1. Posted solutions for old versions of FF do not work.

    This is a problem that occurs on my wife's computer, not this one. The only difference on that computer is that has a D-Link USB adapter as it is connected to our network via a wireless router. Could that have something to do with the problem? Could the installation of the D-Link program have brought along the AOL tool bar with it?

  • How do I get rid of a search engine that has taken over home page?

    Search.US.com has taken over my hone page and everything else it can. I have tried all the suggestions available to me by the help section. I have went so far as to delete cookies. This is very invasive. I looked at restoring the system but have few options for recovery points and they don't include the search engine download. I removed the add on it came with as well. I had removed the search engine in add/remove programs and was stupid when it asked if I wanted the default settings restored. I said no. I'm afraid I am j pretty stupid when it comes to software. I hope someone can help me. Thank you for your time in this matter. ps I put what I thought was relevant in the bottom box. I had not seen this before. I tried to modify it but couldn't.

    I finally got a hold of someone at that search us.com. They gave me this link to try and solve the problem. I have already reinstalled firefox but it might help someone else out. And it's much simpler. I haven't tried it but they said to get a hold of them if it didn't work. the link is:
    Running ResetBrowsers.exe from http://support.search.us.com/uninstall.php should restore your settings to their defaults
    Hope I'm not misusing this post. Thanks again for all your help. Your are all awesome.

  • Preview has taken over RAW file type binding from Photoshop

    Preview v 3.0.4 has taken over as the default program with which to open RAW files. Double-clicking a RAW file in OS 10.3.9 or earlier (?) used to automatically open RAW files into the latest Photoshop version installed (be it 7, CS, CS2).
    After purchasing a new Dual 2.7 G5 with Tiger 10.4 or 10.4.4, ALLL RAW ICNS have changed to a PREVIEW.app's icon for RAW images, and RAW files now default to Preview when double-clicked, instead of the Photographer's choice of Photoshop, as it has been for years.
    These and other file type bindings (PDF) have been captured by Preview in the new OS.
    What is going on? What to do? How do I regain the original file binding of RAW files to an intelligent and professional program (PHTOSHOP CSx), instead of this NEWBIE nearly unusable PREVIEW application?
    Simply remove all PREVIEW resources? Then it's usefulness for browsing large numbers of images will be lost.
    I simply want PREVIEW to leave my professional digital world alone and let me continue working efficiently.
    Any help? Ideas?
    Thanks a bunch,
    jes360

    Simply select one of your crw files, do GetInfo (command-i) on the file and in the Open With section choose Photoshop. Click the Apply to All button. From now on all crw files will open in Photoshop. I suspect the default changed because Preview can now open many many raw files, and not everyone has Photoshop.

  • A search engine called DynaSearch has taken over fire fox without my permission

    I think My brother has attacked my computer, he found my note book and i now have 160 spam when I had only about ten before, and even an xxx dating service used my daughters name to make me click to their site, saying," Sheila has a message for you". Since then fire fox started crashing every ten minutes, and now it's not crashing because a site called DynaSearch has taking over the usual Google trademark that used to apesr on my page, this is a search engine that has taken over Fire Fox without my permission correct. How do I get Fire Fox back, and get them off.

  • Help!!!!! Incredimail MY START has taken over my computer!!! How do I get rid of it permanently???? Started with latest Firefox Update

    Since the latest Firefox, Incredimail My Start has taken over my computer! I do not have Incredimail, I do not want Incredimail. I want to ENTIRELY get rid of it altogether forever. Please give me the instructions. I cannot find it as an add on or a plug in -- I do not know WHAT it is but whatever it is I DO NOT WANT IT ON MY COMPUTER!
    Thanks so much in advance! Please hurry! This is driving me crazy. I have set Google as my home page, but every new tap I add, is Incredimail MyStart. I DO NOT WANT IT. This started with the latest Firefox update.

    Sometimes a problem with Firefox may be a result of malware installed on your computer, that you may not be aware of.
    You can try these free programs to scan for malware, which work with your existing antivirus software:
    * [http://www.microsoft.com/security/scanner/default.aspx Microsoft Safety Scanner]
    * [http://www.malwarebytes.org/products/malwarebytes_free/ MalwareBytes' Anti-Malware]

    * [http://www.surfright.nl/en/hitmanpro/ Hitman Pro]
    * [http://www.eset.com/us/online-scanner/ ESET Online Scanner]
    [http://windows.microsoft.com/MSE Microsoft Security Essentials] is a good permanent antivirus for Windows 7/Vista/XP if you don't already have one.

  • Spyware has taken over?

    Another program has taken over itunes on my computer, so I can not open it. Even when I uninstall/reinstall, when I try to open itunes, I am sent to the "send report" message. At one point I was redirected to install another program called "360" that installed over itunes. What is even worse is that I can find no way to contact itunes for techinical support. I would think they would want to address this issue.

  • Last time I updated firefox Yahoo has taken over. I hate yahoo and would like to remove it is that possible?

    when I uploaded the new version of firefox yahoo has taken over. It over rides everything and I want to remove it is that possible to keep firefox but remove yahoo?
    When I put a address in the address bar yahoo over rides it and it goes to a yahoo page.

    Hi All,
    Have just sorted this problem. Do the following:
    type into your address bar> about:config
    this will bring up the usual warning that it might void your warrantee. Click> I'll be careful I promise.
    in the filter bar at the top enter "Yahoo" without the quotes.
    At the bottom of the list ther'll be a string named "Keyword.url. Right click on this and select reset.
    While your in there if you like you can right click on any of the yahoo lines and select modify. Once once the box opens replace Yahoo by overtyping Google.
    Close the tab and that should cure the problem.
    All the best
    Mick

  • Tool bar has disappeared

    I downloaded and started using the program yesterday but the tool bar has disappeared.  Can anybody assist me in restoring it?
    BTW...I did try uninstalling it and re-installing it and that didn't help.
    Thanks,
    Sofia

    In case anyone has this problem. I was finally able to fix my problem.  I uninstalled the program with Revo Uninstaller and then reinstalled the SWFInvestigator and the problem was gone.
