AOL & Yahoo Instant Messenger

I just bought a Blackberry Pearl 8100.  There is no instant messenger at all installed in my applications.  Anyone know how I fix this?  My kids are screaming...

You can download it from the Blackberry download page available through you Blackberry. There are several IM clients available.

I noticed that when using yahoo instant messenger you get signed out alot and sometimes you cant send messages. The messages will say failed to "whomever" with a yellow triangle and !.  However I have noticed the issues with wifi on and 3g signal is good.  So when I am not connected to a wireless signal on a router I can connect easily.  So I recommend turning off wifi when using yahoo messenger, or if you dont have any 3g signal then use the wifi.  PALM please help with a fix for this issue.

cadams14, did you do any troubleshooting when you had this issue? If so can you post what you did?

  • Voice Chat on Yahoo Instant Messenger doesn't work on my HP though it does on my work desktop.

My Yahoo Instant Messenger doesn't allow voice chat on my laptop, though I can use it on my work desktop.  I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling with no success.  I'm thinking there may be a hardware issue, an update missing or something.

No idea what  "My apple ID account doesn't work on my itunes but it does on the web" means.
    Please explain

  • Yahoo Instant Messenger

I downloaded yahoo instant messenger onto my blackberry curve and when I go to logon I get an error message saying "service is not enabled for this handheld".  I have att and I have all data service (internet, email, txt messaging, etc.) for my service.  Is there a reason why Yahoo IM won't work?  I called ATT and they said that the Yahoo IM app does not work on the blackberry curve, yet the blackberry website and yahoo website both state that it can.  Also, why would there be a download available for it if it doesn't work on the blackberry's?  This is very confusing.

  • Bizarre Yahoo Instant Messenger problem

    Hi,
I am using the Yahoo Instant Messenger as a startup item, have been for years. Today when I started up it did something funny; it told me I had X number of e-mails and then showed and played alerts for each one of them. Then I opened iTunes. The playlist I'd selected yesterday was still chosen and when I scrolled down to it, saw that for some bizarre reason (there are reasons for these things, aren't there?) the Yahoo IM alert sound repertoire was listed in the playlist as well as the radio station I had originally chosen for that playlist.
I think it is a Yahoo IM problem but just wanted to post this since it was so bizarre.
I have to add that my machine has been acting strange lately. Two kernal panics in about a week. A freeze yesterday. Other bad things after about a month of just plain uneventfulness. It is likely things like the above problem are due to things being amiss with OSX as much as the Yahoo IM (beta 3.0 1 (build 17006) I thought I was running the same version of the Yahoo IM but it seems to have been switched to the beta version a few days ago. (All I did was look at the the new version's web site but I wasn't aware I'd intentionally changed versions.)
    Cheers,
    John L

  • Adium and Yahoo instant messenger contact lists not working with Leopard

After I installed Leopard, I tried to run Adium. When I tried to click on the icon and pop up my contact list to select a contact, nothing happens. I am now only able to receive messages and reply to received messages. I cannot get my contact list to pop up when clicking the icon in the dock (like I did with Tiger).
I had the same issue when using the latest Yahoo! messenger for Mac. Anyone else seeing this, or know of a fix?

Hello tross415 and welcome to the Palm forums.
What you are seeing is, if I recall correctly, a bug from Palm webOS 1.3.1 that has not yet been addressed.  If you launch Messaging on the Pre, and then select Preferences & Accounts > Add IM Acoun you will not get a button to add a Yahoo! IM account.
The work around for this issue, and to add Yahoo IM support to your Pre is to add a Yahoo email or calendar account.  When you do, the IM account will also be created.  That is the process that worked for me when Palm introduced Yahoo IM support with webOS 1.3.1.
    Hope that helps,
    Alan G

  • 4G LTE affecting Yahoo Instant Messenger

Since my crappy Pantech UML290 4G device actually started picking up a 4G signal I cant stay logged into Yahoo IM for more than about 10 seconds. Just today though it dropped back down to only receiving 3G and it works fine. Any one having this issue?

The problem started when the 4G started being received. Up til then Yahoo IM worked fine. And other web sites work fine. I looked online and found out how to force it to pick up the 3G only and now the Yahoo IM works fine, as it did before. But the 3g connection isnt very good so loading web sites is usually pretty slow. I really need to figure out how to make the 4G work with Yahoo IM. Im using windows 7 and when I emailed your support page i was told that there is a way to change the settings for windows but that id have to call and talk to someone. Id rather just have an email. Thanks

  • New CDMA iPhone 4S, apps that require data such as Yahoo instant messenger and the weather channel, work fine with a wifi connection but do not work with 3G

These apps just time out on 3G, but load just fine over wifi from the device.   I know the data connection is good because web pages load fine in the browser on the phone.
Any idea how to fix this?

    What carrier are you using?

  • Can't use Gmail or Instant Messenger

When utilizing my airport express to connect to the internet I cannot open Gmail, or use Yahoo Instant Messenger. I have been able to open Gmail and Yahoo IM before today, but now when I try to navigate to Gmail I keep getting the "this page cannot be found," page. When I try to open Yahoo IM it says that I have entered the wrong credentials. Whenever I am hardlined into the internet I can open Gmail, and use Yahoo IM with no problems....switch back to using airport express and the problem continues. What in the world can be causing this and how can I fix it.
I appreciate any help with this....

Exact same problem here. IMHO, I think it started when Software Update installed the latest version of Java. Can't be certain about that though.
I AM able to send/reply via Firefox, however.

  • Instant Messenger troubles

This only started when I got the new Firefox so I’m starting to wonder if its interfering with my messenger.  Every time I send a message I get an error prompt that wants me to shut down the messenger and restart it. It's extremely irritating to be in the middle of an important conversation with my beta reader\editor
I've heard that the newer version of firefox causes memory bleeds as well and Yahoo Answers has not been of any help what so ever in trying to identify the problem with Yahoo Instant Messenger or what could be interfering with it
At this rate I'm wondering if I should just switch back to the old version of Firefox and hope that doesn’t cause problems. If I remember right I can just go to the home page and get the older version, some things don't work on it but if it keeps me from losing information over YIM or keeps it from shutting down then to me it would be worth it
Is there any way possible to tell exsactly what could be messing with my messenger ?

It'd all be trial and error. You can try uninstalling the new Firefox and see if that fixes things, if not then uninstall and reinstall YIM. If that still does nothing for you then you could always try a 3rd party chat program. I like Pidgin as it's very light on resources and works for AIM, MSN, YIM, Jabber, Googletalk etc. Keep in mind Pidgin probably won't work for voice chats or video chats.

  • Not Receiving Yahoo Instant Messages.

It started happening day before yesterday.  All of a sudden I stop receiving messages from the person I am talking to.  I have all of my service and coverage indicators so I am baffled as to why this is happening.  I rely on IM alot and its very frustrating.
Any help or suggestions will be greatly appreciated

I'm having the same issues. I can be having a conversation and then go idle for a period of time (say and hour or two) and then the person I was interacting with earlier tries to respond and it doesn't come through. I only know they responded when I sign into Yahoo Instant Messenger on my laptop later in the day and hit conversation history to see if they ever answered....which they had and it never came over on my blackberrry. I have rebooted, did the *228 business and checked my connections.  This started a few days ago for me as well.

  • I need help with resetting my ichat. When i try to login now it wont let me... it says "AOL Instant Messenger password" and then "iChat can't log in to ... because your login ID or password is incorrect. How do I reset this if I cant log in?

I need help with resetting my ichat. When i try to login now it wont let me... it says "AOL Instant Messenger password" and then "iChat can't log in to ... because your login ID or password is incorrect. How do I reset this if I cant log in? When I try to press online the same thing pops up and I have no way of logging in or asking for help.

    Hi,
iChat (it would help to know which version) can accept Apple IDs as valid AIM Screen Names.
However if you have iChat 5 or earlier you cannot use ones ending in @me.com or @icloud.com issued by iCloud. (they can be used in iChat 6 or Messages as these versions make a double login to AIM and Apple to allow the use of the password).
In addition if you are using an Apple ID for an AIM Screen Name the password still needs to keep to the 16 character limit that AIM has.
AN @mac.com name can be used on any version of iChat  (Until the 30th June 2014)
As it does not need a double check with Apple you can use it to log in to the AIM Web pages
Login here with an AIM Name registered at AIM or and @mac.com name and see if you get any suspended account messages.
Sometimes account can be suspended. Usually because something has triggered the "Unusual Activity" item.
About a year ago many @mac.com users that travelled out of their own country found themselves suspended when they got home.
If the Name checks out of if an Apple ID the password in known to be 16 characters or Less then do this:-
In Lion upwards open a Finder Window and use the Go Menu whilst holding down the ALT key.
Select the Library that appears in the menu list.
    Navigate to Preferences.
(If you have version earlier than Lion the just navigate to ~/Library/Preferences (that's the Library in you Home - Little House icon - folder)
Fnd com.apple.ichat.aim.plist (even if you are using Messages)
Drag the file to the Trash and Restart the app.

  • 10.4.8 and AOL instant messenger

I just ran the update... went to universal access to get rid of the black box, but now I noticed that i can't sign onto ANY AOL instant messenger program be it ichat, AIM or Adium. Being a college student you KNOW how important this is to me . But any suggestions would be very appreciated.

doesn't anyone have any ideas how to help me fix this?
I can get it to work with a browser through AIM express, but shouldn't there be a way for me to get a client to work?
