AOL???

Please Help!!! I don't understand how to get Aol on my macbook or use it !!! please help me with a link of where to purchase Aol or anything related!!!

Welcome To Discussions lulu magu!
Is AOL your ISP?
If you are able to get online, download this copy of AOL For Mac OS X
Or download a copy of the Macintosh Downloads - AOL Downloads.
If you can't get Online or Download, you can use an AOL CD. Even the AOL 9.0 Security Edition and AOL 9.0 Optimized, have an installer for OS X.
If you do use a CD, on completion of the install, check to make sure you have installed AOL For Mac Version 10.3.7 (Revision 4136.3.xx (US)). At this time: March 1, 2006.
The xx will be numbers, that represent the origin of the software, CD or downland. They are inconsequential.
If the installed AOL, has a lower Version number, use AOL Keyword Upgrade, to get the most recently released version.
Also, the instructions here How To Uninstall/Reinstall AOL, may help you out.
If you have never installed AOL, there will be nothing to remove, just do the installation.
If you have any questions, I'll be happy to assist you.
As you have a MacBook, which does not have an interanl modem, how are you presently connecting to the internet?
Good Luck!

  • How restore aol sent mac mail from time machine?

I am using mac mail and an imap connection to aol.  I also have a time capsule and use time machine for backing up. Yesterday I stopped receiving incoming mail in mac mail and tried deleting the aol account in mac mail and then setting it up fresh.  I was shocked to find that my 25,000 AOL sent emails did not restore! I was told by an apple genius bar rep several months ago that once mail was on my machine that the emails would NEVER be lost.  Apparently this is not true.  When I open mac mail and go into my time capsule using time machine, however, do not see the SENT mail icon under AOL--it goes away?  When I try to restore the aol mail from the day before the incident the only thing that comes up is the one Sent Mail mssg that I sent AFTER the deleting and restoring of my AOL account in mac mail. The only relevant post I have found is the one below which was posted in 2008.  Please let me know there is a way to get back my sent messages.  I can't get them directly from the aol server because the server does not save messages that are sent from any client but AOL. Thanks.

Restoring Apple Mail and Your Emails from Time Machine
filed under: How-To tags: mail, timemachine Tuesday, January 29, 2008, 11:31 am
UPDATE (25 August 2010): Please note that this post is well over 2 years old and as Tim pointed out in the comments below, this method may not be the best solution for restoring emails. According to his restore efforts, changes where made to the timestamp from the date in which they were received to the date in which they were restored. I have not tested this myself.
The hard drive on my PowerBook completely died the other day, but I luckily had been running Time Machine backups since upgrading to Leopard. (I wasn’t all that ****** off seeing as I was eager for an excuse to replace my wimpy 40Gb hard drive with a new 160Gb drive). I fumbled a bit, looking for a specific Apple Mail restore tool. I knew where all my emails lived, but I thought that Apple would have a specific means for restoring apps like Mail. So I created this mini-tutorial on how to restore Apple Mail from Time Machine simply because I could not find this method elsewhere.
Supposedly, If you attach your Time Machine backup drive, open Apple Mail then launch the Time Machine application, you are presented with historical views of Apple Mail. This did not work for me, the historical views were just blank, so the steps below do not take this approach.
Restoring Your Emails from a Time Machine Backup
Warning: If you have already setup Apple Mail with your accounts and preferences, this will negate ALL your doings.
Note: This process will restore all your email accounts, preferences, passwords, smart mailboxes, etc.
    The How-To
Before loading Time Machine, open the Finder and navigate to Home Folder (username) -> Library. In there will be a folder name “Mail”. Rename it to “Mail (default)” (Select the folder then hit the Return key to rename).
Mount your Time Machine Backup Drive (ahem, plug it in).
Control + Click the Time Machine Application and chose “Browse Other Time Machine disks…”. This, of course, brings up the historical view of your backups.
Go back to your most recent backup (2nd window back) and navigate to Home Folder (username) -> Library. Select the “Mail” folder and click the restore button (bottom right).
Once the restore is completed, open Apple Mail and you will be presented with an import wizard (below). Simply follow through the prompts and you will be good to go.
    That’s it!UPDATE (20-January-2009): After step 4., also restore ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.mail.plistThanks Jon C.
If you have multiple mail accounts, you should also restore the ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.mail.plist file as well. This will ensure all of your account settings are imported. – Jon C.

I could get back my 170 000 mails in 5 hours thanks to this post, after having tried for few hours without success…Bruno

Don't try to restore the file; restore the Note. Go in Mail to the mailbox where the note belongs. Enter Time Machine from there and step back until you find the Note.

  • How can I read email from my aol account from my iphone and keep it as uread on my computer at home.  It automatically goes to read mail on my computer.  On my computer if I want to keep an email to answer later I can mark it "Keep as New".

How can I read my email from my aol account from my iphone and keep it as "unread" on my computer at home?  At home I can read an email and if I want to get back to it at a later date I can mark it as "keep as new".  I tend to forget it if it goes to "read" mail.   Right now, when I read an email from my phone it goes automatically to "read" mail.

On the iPad, using the mail app, there is no way to do what you are asking without tapping the flag icon and marking the item as unread. Have you tried the OWA app for the iPad? It may have that functionality, but I haven't tested it as you need an Office 365 subscription with Exchange support to use the app.

If you look in the audio output port, is there a red light showing.  If so, the internal switch is stuck..  Insert the headphones a few times, jiggle a toothpick inside or shot some compressed air to trip the switch.  If no success, have the Apple store genius bar technician do it.
    Ciao.

  • AS I  FOUND OUT LATE, LION DOES NOT SUPPORT ROSETTA, WHICH SUPPORTS QUICKEN AND CLASSIC AOL, AND MANY OTHER APPS. CAN I TAKE LION AWAY AND GO BACK TO SNOW LEOPARD?

I found out after the install of LION, that it does not support Rosetta, which runs Quicken and the classic AOL software and a myriad of other apps.
Can I go back to Snow Leopard? Is there a way to retrieve my thousands of saved E mails, which are saved on my Mac?
I still see the filing cabinet with my screen name but cannot get them to open.
Please help! Lion may roar, but the fact it does not support apps like quicken means it purrs.

I had the Apple store wiped out my hard drive and I restore my last hard drive downloard by first placing Snow leopard DVD in the DVD drive and holding "C" when turning on the machine then I follow the instructions. I am back on snow leopard and trying out two finance software to replace Quicken for mac 2007. I am trialing Quicken essentials and ibank. They are both compatable with LION. So when I am ready will download Lion again. Also, Micorsoft Office needs to be 2011 version for it to work on Lion

  • Can not open some links on verizon email & aol email however using same browser I can in yahoo mail. What is problem?

I get invalid URL on verizon & aol mail?

That problem can be caused by the Yahoo! Toolbar that extents too much downwards and covers the top part of the browser window and thus makes links in that part of the screen not clickable.

  • Unable to receive email consistently from AOL

Trying to track down a MAJOR problem, I have a client that I support that runs 10.6 server and it is the mail server etc..  What is occuring is that AOL cannot consistently deliver email to our server... I get various types of messages in mail.log (paste below).. usually Timeout after CONNECT but sometimes Timeout after EHLO....  I have disabled greylisting and increased the default_process_limit to 400 in main.cf
My client is getting VERY angry because a big client of theirs insists on using AOL because that's all he knows.. We are NOT having any issues receiving mail from anyone except AOL.com  I have (ugh) created a free AOL.com account and attempted to send messages, getting the same things.  Once in awhile they do get through but mostly I get the below.
    Appreciate ANY insight...

    Postfix config file follows:
    # Global Postfix configuration file. This file lists only a subset
    # of all parameters. For the syntax, and for a complete parameter
    # list, see the postconf(5) manual page (command: "man 5 postconf").
    # For common configuration examples, see BASIC_CONFIGURATION_README
    # and STANDARD_CONFIGURATION_README. To find these documents, use
    # the command "postconf html_directory readme_directory", or go to
    # http://www.postfix.org/.
    # For best results, change no more than 2-3 parameters at a time,
    # and test if Postfix still works after every change.
    # SOFT BOUNCE
    # The soft_bounce parameter provides a limited safety net for
    # testing.  When soft_bounce is enabled, mail will remain queued that
    # would otherwise bounce. This parameter disables locally-generated
    # bounces, and prevents the SMTP server from rejecting mail permanently
    # (by changing 5xx replies into 4xx replies). However, soft_bounce
    # is no cure for address rewriting mistakes or mail routing mistakes.
    #soft_bounce = no
    # LOCAL PATHNAME INFORMATION
    # The queue_directory specifies the location of the Postfix queue.
    # This is also the root directory of Postfix daemons that run chrooted.

    # The local_recipient_maps parameter specifies optional lookup tables
    # with all names or addresses of users that are local with respect
    # to $mydestination, $inet_interfaces or $proxy_interfaces.
    # If this parameter is defined, then the SMTP server will reject

    # local_recipient_maps setting if:
    # - You define $mydestination domain recipients in files other than
    #   /etc/passwd, /etc/aliases, or the $virtual_alias_maps files.
    #   For example, you define $mydestination domain recipients in
    #   the $virtual_mailbox_maps files.
    # - You redefine the local delivery agent in master.cf.
    # - You redefine the "local_transport" setting in main.cf.
    # - You use the "luser_relay", "mailbox_transport", or "fallback_transport"
    #   feature of the Postfix local delivery agent (see local(8)).
    # Details are described in the LOCAL_RECIPIENT_README file.
    # Beware: if the Postfix SMTP server runs chrooted, you probably have
    # to access the passwd file via the proxymap service, in order to
    # overcome chroot restrictions. The alternative, having a copy of
    # the system passwd file in the chroot jail is just not practical.

    # your entire provider's network.  Instead, specify an explicit

  • Cannot Send mail from AOL account through Entourage

I have an AOL e-mail account and use the Entourage application to send and recieve e-mail. As of lately I can only receive mail, but can no longer send mail. I keep getting the error in Entourage "Connection to the server failed or was dropped". I have read every help article out there on this subject and have tried just about everything. Here is how I have Entourage currently set up:
    IMAP server: imap.aol.com
    SMTP server: smtp.aol.com
*I am using port 587 for the outgoing server and have authenticated it using my account ID and password.
If anyone else is having this problem or knows how to fix it please help!

it may be that your server (internet provider) has just started blocking outgoing mails not authenticated by them.
Go to your account set up...
and fill in the following details.
    SMTP SERVER: smtp.mac.com
then click on advanced sending otions...
click on override default SMTP port... type 587
click on SMTP servber requires authentication...
use same setting as receiving mail server.
    try this...

  • I can receive AOL mail on my iPhone but I cannot send email.

I can receive email for my AOL account on my iPhone but I cannot send email from the iPhone. I can send email OK from a computer. I have AT&T service.

razmee209 (and others in this community)... HELP!
I have the same issue - I can receive email on my iPhone, but cannot send messages.   Keep getting error message:  (Cannot Send Mail - The user name or password for "SMTP:[email protected]" is incorrect
This issue occurred when I changed my AOL password.   I also updated my password on my iPhone.   After exploring this issue more deeply, it appears that my iPhone did not update my password for outgoing mail (as that are more "dots" in the password field for my outgoing server account, than for the incoming server passward that was just updated.
I am unable to change ANY of the information or settings in any of the outgoing mail server accounts - except only to toggle each account ON or OFF.   All other information is "greyed" out, and unavailable and inaccessible.
I know that if I could just change (or somehow sync) the outgoing password to match the new incoming password.
    PLEASE HELP!!

Up until today my MAIL app in my iMac let me use an email address that is from the AOL.com group (netscape.net)…I cannot send emails now because I can't get the computer to connect to the server. My iPad will….but not the desktop. I tried using a different server name; smtp.nestcape.net, which is the one I used in the iPad…but the iMac won't let me change it to that one..so back to the old smtp.aol.com……Still my MAIL app is not recognizing this or letting me connect!?!. I tried creating a new password at the wedpage of that email account.. successfully..but it has made no difference. I am stumped and have wasted half the day trying to deal with this. Anyone else have such an experience? HELP…PLEASE!

Thank you Eric for sending the links. Fortunately after I wrote this post…I don't know what happened but I filled in my mail preference settings for the umteenth time with my new email password and voila! It worked. For some reason however…now when I open the Mail App I do still get a prompt asking me if I want to use this server….and it is, of course, the one and only I have listed.!?!?! The thing that irritates me…is…that I had done NOTHING to cause a problem to begin with. I think my email account at aol (nestcape) may have been hacked and my password stolen or compromised in some way??...and perhaps that caused a glitch in my mail app??? I am no techy, but I should have started out with my intuition and changed the password first before going mental….When something like this happens it makes one feel so vulnerable.…I usually feel well secured with my lone iMac and now my new iPad…ANYWAY…thank tyou  for addressing my issue and I have bookmarked those links…for future reference which I hope I never need. Hey..is that your kitty??? She is beeeooootiful!
Take care and again, thanx~ D

  • Cannot send Emails from AOL (Mail App) Only Recieve

For some time now i cannot seem to send emails from my AOL on the app (Mac Mail). I can receive ok, but not send. It remains in my outbox then a message appears:
Cannot send message using the server AOL
This operation couldn't be completed (MCMaiErrorDomain error 1030)
I then run the Connection Doctor:
I get a Green light for Incoming mail (AOL IMAP)
I get a Red light for outgoing (AOL SMTP)
    The message i get is:
'Trying to log in to this AOL SMTP account failed. Verify that the username and password are correct'
I have tried all the trouble shooting regarding checking the passwords, changing the passwords. Uninstalled and reinstalled. I can log on via the web ok and send and receive  . I believe it happened when i updated the computer some time back because my Macbook does the same now as well as this iMac.
In the Outgoing Mail Server SMTP it reads: AOL (Offline)
In the drop down i goto edit server and this is what is showing:
Description    Server Name     In Use By Account
    AOL                 smtp.aol.com      AOL
In the Advanced section i have Port: 587
    Box checked for 'SSL'
Box checked for 'Automatically detect and maintain account settings'
Box unchecked for 'Allow insecure authentication'
Any help would be much appreciated as this is becoming extremely frustrating

  • Can't send email from iPhone -- my account is with aol

I tried to send an email to myself and I got a message that said "Cannot Send Mail the sender address (my address) was rejected by the server". It says that no matter who I send mail to.
I am not very technically oriented -- so if someone answers me I hope they will give it to me in simple terms
I am receiving email -- although some of it says "not downloaded from server" and some of it says "no message content". Most of the email I receive comes through ok
I have not yet figured how to make the Wi-fy come on so have just been using Edge. I have had the phone for 5 days.
I can live without wi-fy -- but I really would like to be able to send an email. I have a new Mac (my 5th) Hope someone can help.

Forget the previous message. I'm going to assume you chose the AOL option...
I'm suggesting you give the 'Other' option a shot.
In Settings > Mail - Add Account > Other
Ensure it is IMAP (not POP) - fill in your name, address, description etc
    Inc. Mail Server
    hostname: imap.aol.com:143
    username: (your aol username)
    password: (your aol password)
    Out. Mail Server
    hostname: smtp.aol.com:587
    username: (your aol username)
    password: (your aol password)
The outgoing mail server requires authentication - so make sure your username and pass in outgoing section in put in as it is NOT optional.

  • Cannot send email via AOL on iPad2 - "A copy has been placed in your Outbox. Sending the message content to the server failed."

My CEO has an ipad2 and I set it up w/ AOL.  She cannot send any email via her AOL account from her iPad.  She gets a message that says "A copy has been placed in your Outbox. Sending the message content to the server failed."   We've tried it on wifi and on 3G (Verizon version).  I've removed the account and added it, I've tried setting it up as an IMAP account vs. using Apples standard AOL mail setting and nothing seems to work.  The SMTP settings are smtp.aol.com, port 587.  I've tried adding an alternate server/smtp, but I haven't been able to find anything that works.  Any advice or other people having this issue?  It works fine sending an email from her aol web mail.  And unfortunately, having her sign up for a gmail account is not an option.  Thanks

Interesting.  Firstly I have been on AOL since the early 90s with no current intention to switch as my primary personal email account.
I have two email accounts on my iphone - AOL and my email from my business website.  I deleted both and then recreated first the business account and then the AOL account.  Same error.  Then I wasn't sure what you suggested but I turned off the AOL SMTP server and selected the business email SMTP server by turning it on with the same result.  I still get the error "A Copy has been placed in your Outbox.  Sending the mssage content to the server failed."
Perhaps this problem will get fixed by IOS 6.   AOL will not talk to me unless I pay and Apple says its not their problem.  So for the time being I use the AOL web interface in the iPhone's Safari to send emails from the phone.
