AOpen DVD Rewriter Burn Issue

Hey,
I have an AOpen DUW1608/ARR DVD rewriter.
Ever since Apple released iTunes v6, it wouldn't burn CD's, it just gives the error "An unknwon error occurred (2122)".
On AOpen's site, they (very unhelpfully) say that indeed iTunes v6 doesn't work with the drive.
Has anyone else worked around this issue? And if not, who can I contact about it, and hopefully get it fixed in the next version?

DVD DL burn issues - internal target error - fake hardware errors

I am receiving an error from DVD studio pro 3 and Toast 6 when burning DVD DL. The error only appears when burning Memorex and Verbatim discs (so far) using these applications. HP branded DVD DLs burnt fine from the same applications. Aside from the obvious, using only the HPs, has any one found a solution to this problem.
My error code is ....Formatting failed: internal device reports hardware error:internal target error 0x440x00...
I have tested this on other macs in my office and can repeat the error, so it leaves me to believe it is not actually hardware, but more over, likely firmware and or software upgrades. All equipment is less than 16 months old, intel chipped... I need a fix for our travel edit laptop - a Mac book pro.
Another thing that makes me conclude it isn't actually a hardware issue, the same discs that won't burn in Toast or DVDsp3, burn just fine using the finder's burning capabilties.

its been a few days since I posted my problem- i'm not surprised there hasn't been any movement on this topic... seems to be the status quo for all topics about this DVD DL problem..
For those with a similar problem, I'll review my work around for the situation.
Here is the low down review of my problem:
• the matSHITa DVD-R(UJ-846) will not burn DVD DLs from Toast 6 or DVD studio pro 3.
• the Mac says internal hardware failure or sometimes a session error - see previous posts for code
My work around:
• export disc image from DVD studio pro
• burn image as DVD-ROM (UDF) WITH simulation mode checked.
• worked for Memorex 8x DVD+R DLs, Verbatim 8x DVD+R DLs not at 8x speed, used 2x setting.
It takes a longer time for this route but has work consistently on about 15 DVD burns so far... I'll post again if this fails or stops working.
Again that is an intel chipped Mac Book Pro and iMac with the matSHITa DVD burner. Yes I capitalized that 4 letter segment on purpose.

DVD-9 burning issue

Hi, ...
If I make DVD-9 video folder out of Encore and wish to burn it using Nero, should i use DVD-R or DVD+R? I have two of them, Verbatim. Not sure whitch one is better. And will I be able to view it on DVD players? Or maybe I should change book type at first, and then burn?
As these DVDs costs big money, I wouldn't like to test on them:)

Encore is designed to burn only DVD+R DL's, not DVD-R DL's. If you don't want to use Encore I would suggest ImgBurn instead of Nero. Nero presents compatibility issues with Encore on some systems. ImgBurn is compatible with Encore and it's freeware and does a great job with both DVD-/+R DL's. I would only use Verbatim DVD-/+R DL's for quality and check with the players you want to use to make sure they are compatible with DL's, some aren't. Hope this helps.

Mac mini (Mid 2007) DVD player/burner issues

I have a Mac mini (Mid 2007) that I purchased on Ebay about a year ago. When I purchased it, the DVD drive was all ready bad and it only had 1 GB of RAM. I tore apart a different Mac Mini I had lying around with a dead motherboard, and took the DVD burner out of it and put it in the one I purchased off Ebay. I also upgraded the RAM to 2 GB (new RAM, not from the old Mac mini with the dead motherboard), and upgraded the OS X to Lion.
The DVD burner worked perfectly until yesturday. The problem I am now running into is the DVD drive works fine during boot, and I can boot to the original Mac OS X disc that came with the Mac. But once the operating system is loaded, it is like the DVD drive does not even exist. It is not displayed in hardware, I can't burn DVDs, I can't watch DVDs, and I cannot eject anything by any means other than a forced eject during boot. Again, it is like as far as the OS is concerned, it does not exist.
I am also having this issue with the headphone port on the back of the Mac, but more on a intermitent basis. The headphone port works, and is seen by the OS 50% of the time, but the other 50%, the OS does not see it at all. And it is the same way with the integrated speaker. (The DVD drive is all the time.)
Everything works fine during boot, but not in OS X. Any ideas or help would be greatly appreciated.

Mac Pro and DVD Studio burner issues....

Hello-
We just got a new Mac Pro, installed Final Cut Studio 2 and for some reason when I go to burn a DVD in DVD Studio Pro I get the message of: No disc was found in the disc drive. Please insert acceptable DVD recordable media. I have tried 3 different brands of DVD's to make sure that it wasn't the brand we where using.
We tried burning a DVD in iDVD and it worked fine. I can place a disc or a dvd in the drive and it works..... I called tech support and they had no idea.
Has anyone else had this problem and/or a solution?

Hiya and good morning. Does the DVD Studio Pro (not running it myself) require a specific disk by any chance (anything in preferences?), such as -R OR +R or similar.
I take it, otherwise, your Mac Pro DVD writer is performing well? I could be an issue with that? Have you updated all firmware via software update?

Satellite A200-244 - DVD/CD burning issues

Hi all
I've had my Satellite A200-244 since February 2008 and I'm very happy with it apart from the cd/dvd writer which is completely useless.
I've yet to manage to burn a cd (audio or data) without errors occuring.
In fact these days I can't burn a cd at all - iTunes doesn't like it, Winamp doesn't like it, even Windows Media Player hates it now (it used to be OK with it).
Is this an issue others had as well?
I don't know what to do and I really need to be able to burn cds!
I'd be grateful for any help/pointers.

What burning application do you use?
And yes if you are using wrong or not compatible CDs you will be not able to burn the medium or it will burn but not properly.
Furthermore some installed 3rd party applications like for example iTunes could affect the data burning.
By the way;
Remove the driver from device manager. Then access the registry and remove the Upperfilters and Lowerfilters values completely from the following registry key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}
Then restart the notebook.

DVD/CD burning issues resolved

I too have been having many of the issues as others here. The "failed to calibrate laser power level", "medium errors" & "sense errors". I tried repairing permissions, cranking up the fans, new account, various media. None of those worked.
Then today I decided to use some compressed air and and appzapped toast 8 & 9. Voila everything works fine now...no coasters after 5 discs. All media that previously has not worked now works great(TDK +R, SONY +R, Verbatim -/+ R). I am currently using Burn. Cant believe it was this simple, for those who are still having issues give it a try.
Still seems weird that right after leopard installed months ago I got the errors, somehow the leopard dvd made the drive dirty?

Geeze - the compressed air worked for me, too! I suddenly couldn't burn CD's or DVD's and tried several things (repairing permissions, removing files, etc.). This was the thing that worked.

DVD+R burning issue

Very strange, seems that the first DVD+R I burn fails verification just as it starts, and the second effort succeeds, basically since upgrading to Leopard. It really is starting to feel like a software glitch because it's happening this way all the time. 3 out of 3 so far. Has anyone else noticed this? I use Taiyo Yuden media and I've never had problems with it before. In fact I can't recall any burn errors previously.

Hi Chris,
The Dual-layer option is your choice. just remember they have two sides and they could get scratched twice as easy.
When you browse the e-shop sites, the internal drives they offer for your model Mac will fit. You should contact the e-shop by phone or e-mail for any other questions or browse the Manufacturer's site for that model you're interested in, to see the specifications and Mac OS compatibility specs.

DVD-R burn error "medium write error"

Just received a refurbished iMac today. Doing a basic Disc Copy from Disk Utility and burn one disc OK. The second disc ejects half way through burn and "medium write error" pops up. All the disc I pull out are blazing hot as well. I don't know if this has anything to do with it.
I am trying another burn now. Has anybody seen this error or had DVD-R burning issues?

I saw this using Toast 9 -- turned out I had turned on the DVD-DL support by accident and I didn't have a DL DVD drive.

Odd dvd burning issue

10.4.11 and using simply burns to burn dvds is doing odd things. i have a
dvd i want to make a bunch of copies of. i have the video and audio ts folders
stored in a common folder. i drag them to simply burns, name the dvd, save
this as a project and burn it. everything works fine. the dvd auto starts in
my standalone dvd player, mac, and pc. when i burn the second copy, it also
is fine in the dvd and pc, but none of the macs i've tried it on will recognize
the disc. placing it in the mac does bring up the dvd player but it doesn't
start automatically. pressing the play button brings up a message that there is
an unsupported disc in the player. however, by opening the file menu--->open
dvd media--->selecting the dvd--->choose, the dvd plays fine with the minor
exception of not going to full screen mode.
this has happened with an older version of simply burns as well as the latest
release.
i tried burning the folders directly from dvdstudiopro and that worked perfectly
except i have to re-enter the dvd name and re-navigate to the dvd folders for
each dvd i burn.
any ideas on why this could be happening?

yeah. not the best solution as, since i store the video_ts and audio_ts
folders on my system, it pretty much doubles the storage needed for all
of the dvd's. it also takes a lot of extra time as i have to burn a good
dvd, then rip to image for every dvd i have stored.
would be much better to be able to solve what's changing between the first
and second burns. that said, i definitely appreciate getting a tip to a
viable workaround.

Old version of itunes to help with burning issue.

I first downloaded itunes about a year and a half ago(Feb of 2005). I cannot remember what version it was. Everything worked fine and burning music cds was a piece of cake. About 6 months later I downloaded a later version of itunes and my problem with being unable to burn cds began (error 2123). I have tried about everything I can think of to fix it. I have posted on this forum before. There have been some people on it that have tried to help but nothing seems to work. I've tried contacting Apple but that's been a deadend street(if anyone knows how to get a real person on the phone at Apple please let me know). I've contacted the drive's manufacturer and they have tried to be helpful but they, as I, believe it's an issue with the itunes software. I think the only way I'm going to get this problem fixed is one of three things. First, try to find a new drive that's compatable. Secondly, find a way to install an old version of itunes without losing everything on my machine and my ipod. Thirdly, stop using itunes altogether. Has anyone run into this problem and found a solution? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hey, I had the exact same problem. Is your drive an AOpen drive? If so, I read somewhere that their site admits that two of their DVD Rewriter drives do not work with ITunes 6.
You can install old ITunes versions at oldapps.com. However, I installed version 5 and it's now saying I need an upgraded version to play or burn these songs. Let me know if you figure anything out.

Question about choosing an external dvd/cd burner

The burning speed listed in my iTunes preferences goes up to 24x, then "Maximum Pssible". I am thinking of purchasing a LaCie DVD/CD burner that has write(48x)/rewrite(32x)/read(40x). When using with my iMac does this mean that I can burn at 48x with the iTunes burning preferences set to Maximum or does the maximum burning capabilities with my iMac top out at 24x?
Also, the internal burner device (a Matshita model) seems to have something called buffer protection. Can anyone explain what buffer protection is and is a mandatory consideration when using second, external player/burners?

The 24X currently in iTunes is reflecting the speed that is capable of the internal burner in your iMac.

This is to ensure that your burner does not run out of data while it is burning. If the burner runs out of data, the burn will fail.

Logitech external USB DVD reader/burner model LDR-PMD8U2LBK not recognized.

Got a external USB DVD reader/burner Logitech model LDR-PMD8U2LBK.
I plug the device, use the adapter but nothing happens. I tried to boot the computer with the driver plugged in, again, nothing. If I put a DVD in the driver, I hear the machine buffer but on the screen, nothing. Checked all the view options, everything is selected. It doesn't appear in the Disk Utility neither. Tried to open a DVD with VLC Player, to no avail. Checked on Logitech's site, there are no drivers for this driver. The seller told me that it should be compatible with my black macbook, I guess there is still a possibility that it is not...

You shouldn't need drivers for a USB or Firewire connected external device.

OSX DVD/CD Burner Error Code - HELP!

Hey everyone. I hope someone might be able to help me out with a problem I am having.
I just purchased a Plextor DVD/CD burner, and every time I put a blank in it, it gives me an error code (0x80020025). I thought it just might be my burner, but I tried to burn a disc with my buddy's Lacie, and had the same issue. The drive reads all discs fine, it just won't let me set it up to burn one.
Can anyone help, please?! Thank you all so much.

The drive is an external drive. It is a Plextor PX-740UF. I am running it with USB. Just to let you know, I had the same issue with my buddy's Lacie drive when I plugged it in.
The drive recognizes everything BUT unburned discs. When I put one in and I try to open it in Finder, or in iTunes, it gives me that error code.
I have also tried to do the force quit from Finder, and then re-launching, but this doesn't help either.

Cd/DVd Rewriter question hot to use

There is a CD/DVD (+-)rewriter in the computers. I know in Windows the Nero has inCd program what let write/read/delete on CD/DVD rewriter disk like HD (Not with the same speed. How can I do use in Mac OS X the rewriter similar like inCD just delete, write etc.?

It sounds like you have a file that changes regularly, and you want to back it up to the same CD-RW disc over and over. Is that right?
I use Automator for that. It's only a two-action workflow. The first is "Get specified Finder items" and then that is passed to "Burn disc". Make sure the "erase first" box is checked in the "Burn disc" action. Then save the file as an application. All you need to do is pop in the CD-RW and run the application, then grab a coffee while the disc is being burned.
