AP 1140 Interference

Hi,
We have AIR-LAP1141N-E-K9, that will be installed above false ceiling made of "perforated aluminum" with 1mm thickness with 17% open slotted surface.
What would be the level of interference and signal loss?
Many thanks,
Yazeed

Yazeed,
The widespread experience among wireless engineers is pretty much what Leo is saying--metal screens and panels are a wireless killer.
Perforated aluminum ceiling panels are going to severely degrade your signal. At 17% open space in a 1mm thick sheet, you have mostly metal with a bunch of small holes or slots. Look at the door of your microwave oven. There is probably 40% to 50% open space on the door grille, and yet an insignificant amount of microwave energy escapes the oven.
Actual energy loss is a function of size and shape of the openings, the wireless frequency, panel thickness, material composition, radiator distance from the panel, etc., which is why a wireless survey of the actual environment is of critical importance when you're dealing with metal in spaces where you want to deploy WiFi.
For planning purposes, you should assume that you cannot mount your 1141 AP above the aluminum ceiling panels unless all you want to do is heat the airspace there get nothing else out of it. I recommend that you consider alternative solutions such as mounting your APs below the ceiling plane or using patch antennas mounted on the (hopfully not metal) walls and attached to 1260, 3502e or 3602e series APs.
If you are in a position where you need to mathematically justify this rationale and you want to get a rough numerical sense of what you're up against, google around for an RF shielding effectiveness online calculator. Clemson has a good one (with aluminum as a selectable material) and there are a few others.

  • 1140's not broadcasting N speeds

Just purchased a few 1140 cisco AP's with a 2106 Lan Controller. Configured everything as stated by the manual and I can not connect at N speeds. We have two buildings, in the other building on the same network we have a 2006 Lan controller that has 4 1130's configured.
So my issue at hand right now is I am not able to connect at the N speed. Could this be an issue from mixed mode? I am a little confused on where to start.
    Thank you,

Note: Greenfield mode is not the same as 11n only. GF mode doesn't have any protection bits against legacy modulation schemes. GF mode also requires chipset support, which those "other" vendors don't actually have.
We say you need at least legacy data rate enabled for good reason: to protect your network against interference from legacy wi-fi. If you have only 11n clients and no interference, then you'll only use 11n anyway, so there is no actual gain with what the "other" guys do.
Secondly, be careful what you believe about the "other" guy's 3x3 mode. Their "3x3" only means the AP can transmit out of 3 antennae, which has negligible benefits. It does not give them a 3rd spatial stream. And we'll crush them on rate/range/coverage consistency/AP quality any day.

  • Red interference during capture with FCP 5.1.4

I have FCP version 5.1.4 . I am using OSX 10.6 snow leopard (Macbook Pro). Have captured and edited without any problems. All of a sudden I am getting an interference during capture. This interference comes in the form of a bright red color which suddenly fills half my screen from corner to corner forming a right angled triangle and hiding half of my picture triangularly. it flashes and then remains. Anyone know what the **** this is and how I can rectify it?
I would be EXTREMELY for any help anyone can give me. Thanks in advance.

This is happening to me today as well. Has it got something to do with 10.6.7 I have just updated and now I seem to be having the same problem

  • K7n2g-ilsr IGP graphics interference

When using the IGP, I see moving diagonal lines on my desktop.
I don't think it's a memory compatibility issue since I don't experience any reboots, lock-ups, crashes, etc. I suspect it's the PSU but I need a second opinion on this.
I already experimented with the bios settings with no luck, even on default.
    Here's my specs:
    XP 1,700+
    MSI K7n2g-ilsr
    2 pcs. twinmos 512 ddr400 (twinmos chips)
    Enermax 330 watts (+3.3v=30A, +5v=32A, +12v=12A, combined +3.3v and +5v= 160W)
I know that the 12v rail is too low, but like I said, I don't experience reboots and everything, just the annoying interference.
I haven't got this problem whenever I use a separate agp card (geforce2mx)

Your combined is low as well...should be more like 200W to get enuff power to this setup...
    Cheers!! 8)

  • Interference on display.

I'm getting random interference patterns on the display. Sometimes an image will become distorted and have lines run through it. Has anyone had this problem? I've had this on iOS 4.2 &4.3 so I'm hesitant to say it's a software issue. These issues have also caused a lot of lag lately on my iPod.

There are many reports of graphics issues after updating to 4.3, but I'm not aware of the same with 4.2.

Problems with ATI Radeon HD 2600, electrical interference or flickering pixels
I have a Macro 8 core purchased just 4 months ago with the ATI Radeon HD 2600. Just started getting what looks like electrical interference or flickering pixels all over the screen. It gets worse and worse to the point where i see and cant work then clears up for an hour and then comes back.
If I change the resolution from 1680x1050 to 1600x1200 everything looks fine and the problem goes away.
Monitor works fine on two other computers, driver is up to date.
Would like to upgrade at some point just disappointed that I’m already having problems.
Any suggestions would be very helpful, in the mean time I’ll searching the forums.
    Thanks,

  • Android 4.1 tablet not connecting to Aironet 1140

Hello community, I am having an issue with my Android Tablet running 4.1 (Jelly Bean). It is able to the SSID, but when I try to connect - it stays connecting and then says saved, and never connects, as it does not pick up an IP address. I updated the firmware on the Aironet 1140 due to my Windows 8 pc's not connecting as well, it solved my Windows 8 problem, just not my Android Tablet problem. My Ipads do work. Just any android device I connect...
Anyone, ran into this issue that can assist?
    Thanks in advance.

  • Is anyone with a Macbook experiencing interference with their iPhone's touch screen?

At first I thought my iPhone's touch screen was broken so I contacted apple. Before we could finish our chat, my internet crashed and we couldnt finish. Tonight I'm on my MacBook air wathcing Netflix and trying to use my iphone to text. The interference is so bad that when i hold my thumb on the screen in one spot, the phone will scroll for itself and typing is practically impossible. Is anyone else expierencing this problem? This problem didn't exist with my 4, But when I use my computer, my 5S is practically impossible to use near my Mac.

    Nope.

  • HT1414 I am unable to sync iTunes or iPhoto.  I get error message 1140.

I have a new iPhone 5.  I am unable to sync iTunes or iPhoto to it.  I get an error message every time "iPhone cannot be synced.  Unknown Error 1140".  I'm using OS 10.8.2 and IOS 6.  Does anyone know if there is a fix on the way from Apple for this?

Download and install the iPhoto 9.4.1 update, which was just released today. It may be the answer to your problems:

  • Is there a way to actaully talk to someone at apple whereby it doesn't cost money? I downloaded an app and now the stupid phone says that there is compass interference and to move away from the interference. Well, I am in the middle of a field. Now what?

Is there actually a way to talk to a service person at Apple where you don't have to shell out money? I downloaded an app that cost $9.99 and when I tried to use it I get a message that says there is compass interference and to move away from the interference or wave the phone in a figure 8 pattern. Well, now I have a sore arm from constant waving out in the middle of a field and it appears that is going to cost $29 to talk to a person. Does anyone have any idea why this is occuring? As a side note, I can use a normal compass with no issues so it is the phone. From a customer perspective, this is poor customer service.

First of all, an idle threat is one that a person has no intention of carrying out. In the past 16 months that I have had this phone I have become less and less satisfied and found that it is like much of today's technology....over rated and under performing. The one thing that I have never been accused of is not wanting, or not giving help but when a company makes itself unavailable to resolve issues and leaves it to forums run by users helping users, it speaks more about the company than anything else they could do. As I said, I do not make idle threats and I did not threaten you in any way. Guess I'll call this topic done with as it is not and was not the intent to get a war started

  • Max retransmissions & interference threshold

We're getting complaints about a specific 1131AG in the field only being intermittently accessible. WCS shows both the a and b/g interfaces randomly bouncing, sometimes the reason for the bounce is unknown other times it says it's because it lost connection to the controller. I can ssh into the WCS but the engineer who setup the AP's doesn't seem to have enabled remote access via telnet or ssh.
We are also seeing these events:
802.11a interface of AP * is down: Controller 172.17.0.10 Reason: Max retransmissions for the AP have reached.
Interference threshold violation reported by '802.11b/g' interface of AP *, connected to Controller '172.17.0.10'.
I know I can adjust the threshold percentage, but that would only seem to mask the issue.

  • Chronic interference on phone line and broadband drifting in and out

hi, could I speak to an advisor please.  We have chronic interference on our phone line and our internet keeps drifting in and out, it has been like this since Tuesday.  I have done all the necessary checks including unplugging all the equipment and plugging a corded telephone into the test socket and it is still the same with the corded phone plugged into the test socket, so I'm guessing there is a fault on the line.  I need sky to do a line check for me.

I upgraded from a 1st generation to a 4th generation time capsule (model A4109) and since then my pay TV wireless transmitter has pulsating interference.  This is obviously due to the new dual band  frequency of the TC.  Is there any way I can set it to one band and what will that do?

Go in and manually set the wireless channel for 2.4ghz or 5ghz (whichever your av sender is).. try different channels.
