AP and Reuters won't update

I am having a strange problem. It only happens on one computer that I use so I think that there is a problem with this computer, but I don't know what it is. I have only noticed it on one web site, but I am concerned that it might be a larger problem with my machine.
I have a My Yahoo page that updates headline news from Reuters and the AP. On one of my macs - a MacPro with 10.4.8 installed - starting about a week ago the headlines no longer update. On all of the other computers I have tried - Macs and PCs - the page still works properly with stories being updated as usual.
I talked with Apple and we did a disk repair - no problems. They suggested I do an archive and install - I did and the problem continues. I created a new user - that user had the same problem. I also cleared the pram. The problem continues. Now the apple people say that the only thing left is to do a clean re-install. However I really don't want to do this.
Can anyone help?

Does it happen in all browsers or just one?

Did Apple have you run the 10.4.8 combined update and subsequent updates?
Do you keep a backup working system? Emergency boot drive for repairs?
I would assume you tried clearing the cache folders (deep clean or Applejack, Tiger Cache Cleaner) to so some "maintenance" and housekeeping. And empty the disk cache folder for any browser (unneeded and not needed with broadband).
How about your router and network settings? did you look there? I find Safari works better if the primary and secondary DNS IP are entered manually into Network panel.
Try FireFox 2.0.0.2+.

If you get a network timeout error, then disabling the computer's security software duirng the download and update usually resovles that error.
If that is not the error what is the wording of the error message.
Note that only a 3G or 4G iPod can go to iOS 5. A 2G iPod can only go to iOS 4.2.1

Is it perhaps downloading the update?
Have you tried rebooting the iPad? Hold down the home and power/sleep buttons for 10 to 15 seconds or until the Apple logo appears. This should reboot the iPad. Then try the update again.
If all else fails, you can try to update through iTunes on a computer.

When you updated, the old version remained on your Mac, in a subfolder within Applications named iWork '09. Any icons you have on the Dock still point to that old version. Try opening the Numbers that is located in your main Applications folder, not the one in the subfolder. If that works, then drag that one to the Dock.

IMovie and iPhoto won't update on Used Macbook Pro Retina

I purchased a used macbook pro retina and did the usually initial setup for the laptop. My issue is that these two stock apps won't update in the app store. I recieve a message asking me to login using the ID that was used to purchase the app. I am assuming this is the ID of the previous owner , which of course I do not have. Any Ideas ???

The MBP needs to be disassociated from the original owners Apple ID. The original owner needs to call Apple Care to request that. Or if you have a sales receipt that proves you legally have purchased the MBP they may do it for you.
Then the MBP needs to be wiped clean and the most recent version of OS X that shipped with the Mac installed using OS X Recovery. You can also reinstall the iLife apps, which you should accept into your Apple ID in the Mac App Store on the Purchaes pane.

IPhoto and iMovie won't update on my MacBook Pro OS 10.8.3

I have a MacBook Pro, s/n W8******AGZ, running OS 10.8.3. Ever since the last update of 10.8.2 I've been having problems updating my iPhoto software. Now, just recently, iMovie won't update either.
What is an Apple community guy supposed to do now??? Please anyone with easy to do answers?

i'm the only one on my mac. i only have 1 itunes account so it has nothing to do with any UserID issue. i tried reindexing spotlight. This has been an issue for about a month now. Then i deleted iPhoto app and securely emptied the trash. All my software was in my macbook pro when it was shipped to me Feb. 2011. These are the two software, in question. iMovie is giving me the same message now.

Compressor (and Qmaster) won't update

Compressor and Qmaster will not update to version 2.0.1. I've downloaded the updates multiple times. It always asks me to restart to install, which I do, but the updates never install.
There was an old thread discussing this very problem, back in 2007. This is it:

If this problem has been resolved elsewhere, I'd really appreciate if someone could point me in the right direction. This is a minor annoyance but it's still an annoyance. If you compare Final Cut Studio to other professional software, you will see that you are getting a great deal. Most professional software requires you to take out a support contract in order to get any level of support at all (even software updates), and some even mandate that you pay for 1 year's worth of support when you buy it. These packages cost considerably more and you don't get 8 applications in one.
Some examples:
Avid Media Composer - $2500 + $995 standard support
Nuke - $3500 + $1000 per year support
Boujou - $10k + $2k-6k per year support (depending on the number of licenses)
Massive - $18k + $4k per year support
Sonic Scenarist - ~$50k + whatever support costs
Final Cut Studio - $1200 + $800 per year support (not mandated)
Remember that Color used to cost $20k before Apple bundled it into FCS for free. We are getting a bargain and this is why we put up with the bugs in Final Cut Studio.
P.S. I think I may have exaggerated how bad Compressor 3 is in FCS2. If you run the latest version on the latest OS, install it on a good foundation (i.e. don't migrate it), and give it the occasional dose of Compressor Repair, you should be just fine.
