AP Div Tag Issue
Hello Everyone,
I am working on this page:
http://www.paulargoescreens.com/300rps2dt40.shtml
The problem is that I am using a AP Div for the
saw_blade.jpg. The bottom of the teal paper needs to be level with
the bottom line of text in the description area.
I am not very familiar with div tags and cold use some help.
Any idea why it is showing up at the bottom of the page? I placed
it correctly in Dreamweaver CS3 but when it uploaded and checked it
of course this is what I got.
should I figure out what the x and y coordinates are and try
to do something to it that way?
Help!
Scott

Never happen. Look at the page in Firefox, and bump the text
size up a tick
or two. Note how the text expands downward. You will be
trying to nail
jelly to a tree....
Why do they need to match?

Hi all,
Still fairly green. I have a question about float and divs. I
have 2 divs next to each other, both float left. Both filled with
different colors. As the Div on the left expands VERTICALLY with
copy... I want the one on the right to ALSO expand vertically
WITHOUT adding copy.
I have a footer Div that clears the float but...
Any help would be great.Position relative is unnecessary in this scenario.

Div tag rendering issue in GroupLayout
Hi,
In my jspx page I have div tag to contruct a box with header inside that I am showing some data.
So I have div class="planHeaderBox" in panelGroupLayout in my jspx1 page and this grouplayout will be refreshed from my bean class when ever I click on button in jspx1 page.
Issue is every time I click on the button div tage is rendering and adding the headerbox in page(multiple boxes are coming), So how do I make div tag to be executed only once and when ever I click on button
only the data should get refreshed not the div tag. Do I need to use switcher or any other way do I have?
Please provide your inputs.
Thanks in advance.That is the reason why you shouldn't do this.
Can't you get your design using adf tags only?

Dreamweaver crashes when i drag my div tags in design view
Hi
Ive just encountered a problem with dreamweaver cs4 at work.
I was creating a website using CSS and creating multiple div tags to house my images around the page. I normally position them using the CSS style sheet, but on this occasion, I grabbed the div tag whilst in design view and dragged it manually, and dreamweaver crashed! See image below It does so everytime I try the same thing again. Ive even restarted my PC. Anyone know why?I've not see this before, so can't say why it would be happening. Would the pc be low on resources? but then again you say it happened even after a restart of the pc.
Maybe you could try the file cache and the personal configuration folder fix to see if it fixes any issues.
http://forums.adobe.com/thread/417116#cache
PS: While I'm at it, it would be wrong for me to point out that using AP divs is not the optimum way to create a layout.... unless you know the repercussions of using them.
Here's why: (from the Dreamweaver FAQ)

Dreamweaver cs5.5 - div tags won't float next to eachother
I have being trying to get 2 div tags to float next to eachother for hours! I've been messing with the float and messing with margins, but what ever i do the div is always somewhat under my other div tag. I want them completely side by side. I have tried changing the top and bottom margins but that doesn't work either. how can i get them side by side? One is called 'textbox' and the other 'imagewrapper'. The code is:

</html>If you want to position 2 divs - one on left and other on right, the float for your left div should say float: left; and for the one on the right the CSS should say float:right;
In your code, I see you want imagewrapper to come on right and textbox to come on left. But your float for BOTH these say right. This is where the issue lies.
You can combine float:left and float:right to achieve side by side divs provided the overall width (container width+padding+margin) of both divs is less than or equal to the width of the wrapper div.
In the OP's example:
#wrapper = 1064+0+0 = 1064px
#textbox + #imagewrapper = 600+70+280+720 = 1670px = float drop -
How do you make a div tag only as wide as the content that is
inside of it, rather than the width of the cell that surrounds
it?<div style="width:200px; float:left">
Would give you a div 200px wide and floated to the left. You
can similarly
float another div to the right of this div etc. When you are
done with a row
of divs, you would want to clear the float so that the next
set of divs
starts with the extreme left as the reference point. To clear
a float you
would use style="clear:both;" or style="clear:left;" etc.
Please do some
reading on all this before you start experimenting else
you'll run into a
multitude of issues.
You cannot lose until you give up !!!

In the paragraph after a conditional build tag, an inline image gets wrapped in a div tag
Hi,
TCS5, so FM 12 and RH11. I have successfully applied some conditional build tags by turning off the apply conditional build tag setting and using the Conditional Build Expression in the WebHelp properties instead.
In RoboHelp, everything looks correct. I generate WebHelp and suddenly, a div tag is wrapped around the inline image in the paragraph that followed the text marked conditional.
This did not happen with TCS 4 (FM11, RH10). I am not sure why this div tag is applied only when I generate the help. Any thoughts on what to check?
LaurenHi lauren,
I tried to replicate the above mentioned issue, but did not get the <div> around the image in Webhelp output. Would it be possible for you to provide more information on this:
At what point does the <div> start appearing around the image, as soon as the CBT expression is applied?
If yes, what is the expression?
What happens when expression is set to None again and individual CBT is under application
Is there a spacing or the CBT text just follows the inline image?
Please send us a sample file for the same, if possible. Thanks!

hammer.>>I think you'll find significant disagreement here

Yes, here, I definitely will find significant disagreement.
But I'm very
much of the opinion that publishing to the web is for the
masses, not just
for you folk with the time, motivation, and expereince to
deal with the
range of issues relating to css layout. The simplicity of
tables far
outweighs the gains of css layout at this point in time.
>>There is nothing worse than a morass of nested tables
spanned to death,
>>not
only for you as the maintainer of the site, but also for the
browsers, some
of which simply cannot render such pages. CSS layouts do not
have these
problems.
Here you are wrong. I would actually revese that whole point.
It is css
layout that are notorious fo rbrowsers laying out or not
rendering properly.
Tables never came close to having such issues. Even nested
tables, one level
deep, are perfectly fine.
>>some
of which simply cannot render such pages. CSS layouts do not
have these
problems.
Politely, where the heck have you been living these last few
years!!
>>Future maintainence, bandwidth usage, and simplicity
of layout are big
benefits of using CSS as opposed to tables.
simplicity of layout??? Again, I think you are missing the
argument here.
Its almost a given that tables are simpler to use for layout.
Almost all
books on teh topic agree, but point out the long term benefit
of css layout
despite the added complexity. So please don't use the
'simplcity' as an
argument here. CSS layout is the most intimidating and hard
to fathom thing
for most beginners, not just the new syntax but all the
nonsensical
(seeming) twists and turns that must be taken to get it to
work properly -
not to mention they are buggy as hell. Tables? They don't
come close to
being as nasty as CSS layout as it is today.
>>Everyone here (I think) agrees that if tables work
better for you, then use them. BUT use them correctly if you
are going to
do that. It's pretty simple, really....
Agreed. I personally use tables for average sized websites
which have to be
edited/maintained by general staff - you can teach tables oto
people inside
of amorning to a day. You'd need weeks to months to teach
enough CSS layout
to a layman and even then he'd think it sucks. I will be
using css for
layout about two browser versions from now.
I don't see the sense on jumping on a technology that, at
every second turn
you get, go here for this hack, do this to get around that
problem, IE
cannot do this so use this javascript fix, oh it doesn't work
while looking
at in dreanweaver but it will work in the browser, blah blah
blah...its
enough to put someone off web design for life.
I came to the web initially becuase I was amazed at how much
I could do with
so little knowledge - it was awseome. I think this should
still happen to
people today - it's quite empowering. I think the reality is
a lot more folk
get disheartned, confused and simply don't run with it. We
scare the crap
out them with css layout.

Removing Line between Div tags
Hi all. I am new to this forum - have just started using DIV Tags and am getting a bit messed up!! I have a simple web page that has 2 DIV statements - on loads a menu bar I have created in Fireworks and is rihgt justified, the other is a header that contains an image and is centred. I have specified a coloured page background. Trouble is, I have a line between my two div tags that shows the background colour! I just cant get rid of it - I have tried the "Display - Inline" but that doesn't work. I have tried "Float Left" and "Right" - no-good. I dont know what to do! It could be that I am using these commands in the wrong place? There seems to be quite a lot of stuff on the net about this issue but I cant get any of the solutions to work for me. Please can anyone help?
Here is an example of my code:
<!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd">
<html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml">
<head>
<meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=utf-8" />
<title>Untitled Document</title>
<style type="text/css">
body {
background-color: #C90;
.menu {
BACKGROUND: #000000;
.header {
BACKGROUND: #000000;
</style>
</head>
<body>
<DIV class=menu align="right" >
<P> </P>
<P> </P>
</DIV>
<DIV class=header align= "center">
<P> </P>
<P> </P>
<P> </P>
</DIV>
</body>
</html>This is invalid markup.
<DIV class=menu align="right" >
</DIV>
<DIV class=header align= "center">
</DIV>
CSS should look like this:
body {
margin:0;
padding:0;
background: #C90;
color: #000;
#wrapper {
width: 970px; /**some value in px, % or ems**/
margin: 0 auto; /**with width, this centers page**/
background: #FFF;
border: 2px solid #000;
#menu {
background: #000;
text-align:right;
margin:0;
padding:0;
#header {
background: #000;
width: 970px;
margin:0 auto;
padding:0;
Then add the relevant selector ID (or .class) to your markup like so.
<body>
<div id="wrapper>
<div id="menu">
your menu code here
</div>
<div id="header">
your header here
</div>
<p>your content goes here<p>
<!--end wrapper--> </div>

Div tags - I'm totally confused
I just finished a website that employed AP divs...and was
heartily chastised for doing so. So, I'm attempting to create
another site that employs div tags.
I created a new site and began working on the design. Banner
at the top (jpg image in a div tag - 760 px wide, no float, no
clear), left sidebar (jpg in a div tag - 154 px wide, no float, no
clear), attempted to create another div tag (right sidebar) but I
can't get the div tag to hug the right margin of the page at the
same height as the left tag. It keeps appearing below the left
sidebar div tag....I have no clue how to get the div tag to appear
on the right side of the page.....assistance would be greatly
appreciated. (I have lots of other questions, but if I can get past
this issue, I MAY be able to work those out myself).
David BirdWell, because #leftsidebar is a block tag, and because you
have not
controlled its width, it occupies the full width of its
container, so there
is no room to the right for anything. And by the way, why so
many rules for
#leftsidebar img? Also, you have misformed the selector for
#rightsidebar.
Anyhow, this may be what you are after - not sure, though....

DIV tags disappear when put over swf file background
I am working on a site which has a swf movie as a background
which fills the browser window(SWFobject). When I place DIV tags,
which reference a CSS id and contain swf files as well, over the
top (for absolute positioning, etc.) they disappear when previewed
in a browser . Is there a reason that the swfobject always takes on
top position in the browser? Do I need to change something in the
SWFoject javascript file, in the code or within either the CSS file
or the dreamweaver HTML code? Here is a link to a site that is very
similar to what I am working on.

Any help would be most appreciated.All Active content on a page will always rise to the top, so
to speak,
including Flash, certain form elements, Java applets, and
Active X controls.
This means that each of these will poke through layers. There
is not a good
cross-browser/platform reliable way to solve this issue, but
if you can be
confident in your visitors using IE 5+ or NN6+, then you can
use the Flash
wmode parameter (however, Safari does not support this
properly!).

I have used the WC3 validator to find unbalanced div tags.
One error listed is as follows:
line 2209, Column 39: end tag for "div" omitted, but OMITTAG NO was specified
<!-- InstanceEndEditable --></td>
For correcting this issue, where is the closing div tag to be inserted, is it immediately after the listed code, in this case it is immediately after </td>?There are several missing or misplaced </div> tags on that page (I find 310 instances of <div and only 308 of </div>).
The first should go here -
<!-- end of country2 -->
</div>
</td>
</tr>
</table>
The second most probably should go ABOVE the start point of the "Layer4" (LAYERS? EEK), although your code is not well chosen, so it's hard to know exactly -
</table>
</div>
</div>
</div>
</div>
<div id="Layer4" style="border-width: thin;border-style:solid;border-color:#666666; position:absolute; width:600px; height:610px; z-index:300; left: 0px; top: 0px;visibility: hidden;">
Because of the poorly chosen code, the validator is confused. The insertion point it shows is incorrect. -
How to avoid extra div tags, when we add components using cq:include
I tried using the below code in my component jsp from forums to remove those extra div tags when we try to add components using <cq:include tags.
<%
if (WCMMode.fromRequest(request) != WCMMode.EDIT && WCMMode.fromRequest(request) != WCMMode.DESIGN) {
IncludeOptions.getOptions(request, true).forceSameContext(Boolean.TRUE);
%>
But this code helped to remove most of the extra div tags , but still adds this extra div tag to the first component I add using <cq:include tag.
its a basic and very critical necessity to maintain our markup design,But due to this dynamically added extra div tag will hinder the html and css behaviour of the page.
Appreciate your help to resolve this issue.
ThanksHi,
Can you try below if you really dont want to include anything during include.
<%
IncludeOptions opts=null;
if (WCMMode.fromRequest(request) != WCMMode.EDIT && WCMMode.fromRequest(request) != WCMMode.DESIGN) {
opts= IncludeOptions.getOptions(request, true);
opts.forceSameContext(Boolean.TRUE);
opts.setDecorationTagName("");
%>

Where is the "Start New Row" check box when adding a div tag?
Ever since I updated Dreamweaver, when i add a div tag i no longer see the "Start A New Row" check box. The only checkbox i see is "Insert as a Fluid Element". Has this option been removed or has it been moved to a new location?
Hi MichaelMuirhead,
We have updated Fluid grid in 12.2 release of DW as well as in CC release.
Unlike before, Now DW smartly recognizes when a Fluid page is open and Converts Structure category to Fluid layout category.
I.e. when any element is inserted from Structure category on to a fluid page it will be inserted with required CSS to make it fluid, Unless user advices otherwise.
The idea is to enhance the support for almost all the structural elements as fluid elements, rather than just supporting Div as a fluid element. Hence, Insert Fluid Grid Layout Div Tag has been removed.
Steps to Insert a fluid element:
Select Insert > Layout.
Select the element that you want to insert. (i.e Div or Header or footer etc) 3. In the dialog that appears, enter a new class name, or enter a value for the ID. The selected element is inserted on the layout.
4) To insert a normal/non fluid element uncheck 'Insert as fluid element' check box in previous dialog.
Now to answer second part of your concern " Regarding missing "Start A New Row" check box"
All the elements inserted on a fluid page, start in a New row by default. If user wants to place the element in previous row then in can be achieved by clicking "Move Up a row" button which comes up on FG element HUD, after inserting that element.
Please refer Screen shot for clearer understanding.
For more details on update navigate to: http://helpx.adobe.com/dreamweaver/using/fluid-grid-layout-dreamweaver .html
Here is the link to new Video on how to design a FG page using new FG in DW 12.2.
http://blogs.adobe.com/dreamweaver/2013/02/updated-fluid-grids-in-dreamweaver.html
Please note that "Layout" Category in 12.2 has been renamed to more appropriate sounding "Structure" Category in DW CC.
Hope it helps.
Kindly revert for any issues or concerns.

Image Map in a div tag causing problems in webpage
I have an image map in a div tag (I'm using Dreamweaver so
I've place hot spots on a gif within a div tag). When I preview in
a browser the hot spots are creating an empty space between the
image and the div tag below it, which there shouldn't be. Prior to
this I had done the same thing but using layers instead of div tags
and it was fine... there was no unwanted space. What am I doing
wrong?Hi lauren,
I tried to replicate the above mentioned issue, but did not get the <div> around the image in Webhelp output.
Thanks!
Amit
