AP not broadcasting SSIDs
Hi All,
This looks like an easy task but I cant get it to work.
We moved an AP from one room to another one and now it is not broadcasting the SSIDs. The AP is an 1131 AG.
The front unit led is solid red(before it was blue), the ethernet led is green blinking, and the radio led is off.
I can see the AP on the WLC and it has a static IP and everything.
The switch sees it as CDP neighbor and the switchport is configured as trunk.
Dont know what else to check.
Thanks
Raga
A 2960.
If you plugged the AP directly to the switch and it works, then chances are your horizontal cabling could be "funny".
The 2960 has a built-in TDR that will help you determine this.
Command combo:
1. test cable tdr interface ;
2. wait for about 5 to 7 seconds for the test to run;
3. sh cable tdr int
I recommend you plug the AP to it's original position and from the patch panel, plug the AP to Gig0/1 or Gig0/2. When you do this, make sure you enter the command "media rj" first before running the test. When you have concluded yoru test, run the command "media auto".

Does Samsung Galaxy III phones recognized WiFi that does not broadcast SSID?
I recently purchased Samsung Galaxy III phone. At home, I turned on WiFi SSID broadcast on the router to set up phone to connect to router. I then turned off SSID broadcast on router, and phone no longer connects to WiFi. I understand security is better when SSID is not broadcasting, but this phone will not connect now. Apple products connects just fine. Why will the phone not connect to a router that does not broadcast SSID event when the information is programmed into the phone?
what revision Actiontec do you have, can you check the service Tag? it will say REV A, B, C, D etc.....
Also you can verify you are doing the right one by logging in at www.verizon.com/repair and clicking "

Wrt160nv2 not broadcasting ssid
hello, i have a wrt160n v2 and it is not broadcasting the ssid all of a sudden. even if i try to enter the ssid & password manually it cannot find & connect. It works when hardwired. I have not changed the settings and everything seemd to be correct. Is the router antenna dead?
Connect the computer to the router with the Ethernet cable.
Open the setup page of the router. Click on wireless tab. Set the configuration view to Manual.
Change the wireless channel to 11 and make sure that SSID broadcast is enabled.
Try to connect to the wireless network and see if you can find the SSID.
Is the Wireless LED lit up on your router?
Can you see other wireless network SSID on your computer?
What is the operating system on your computer?
If it is a laptop then make sure that wireless switch is turned ON on your laptop. -
Automomous AP not broadcasting SSID and can I get it to support both WPA and WPA2?
Ok, I am playing around with a 3702i that has been converted to Autonomous running ap3g2-k9w7-mx.153-3.JAB
I have 2 issues I have not been able to solve yet. I have basically set it up using the web interface....
First, I can't get the SSID to broadcast -- the SSID is active, because I can type it in manually.
Second, I have an HP 8600 Pro All-in-One printer that I normally connect over WiFi. Basically, it does not seem to support WPA2...I spent most of yesterday pouring through HP forums and WPA2 support seems to be a issue. My old Linksys router had a setting that supported WPA/WPA2...does anyone know how or if I can support WPA / WPA2 simultaneously on this Autonomous AP?
Here is my config:
Thanks....

You have to add "guest mode" command to broadcast your SSID. Also if you need WPA/TKIP support then remove version 2 keyword under SSID & add TKIP option under radio interface encryption config. Also get rid of "infrastructure SSID" command under SSID config.

Issues with iPhone4 not broadcasting SSiD
As my topic says, let me lay this out.
Iphone4 fully updated.
Ipad2 fully updated.
On AT&T.
My problem is, my phone won't broadcast it's SSiD when I turn on broadcasting./hotspot, forcing me to use Bluetooth.
That's ok, right? Well, as most know, Bluetooth EATS the battery on my iPhone. Also, it's not as quick at wifi.
So I power cycle the phone, turn broadcast on and off, turn wifi on and off. Both devices I do this to, and still, my iPad won't find my iPhone's wifi broadcast.
I did setup an appointment with the apple store, and am hoping a genius can either fix it or explain it to me.
No, I'm not letting the phone go right to sleep, no, I don't exit the broadcast screen right away either.
What am I missing? Do I need to start carrying a phone charger with me everywhere, and just rely on Bluetooth? Sounds like a band aide to me...I too am experiencing this on my iPhone 4 after upgrading to 4.3.3. I am fairly convinced that it is a software issue. The last update seems jumpy. There appear to be more pauses and stuttering with screen changes too. Sometime the button operates perfectely (even with repeated light touches). Other times, it doesn't matter how hard I press; it takes several presses. I notice it more when i am using a battery case or connected to an AT&T MicroCell. I am having a hard time pinpointing problematic apps, although i suspect that mail with my work Exchange account may be a culprit. I suggest posting your issues on Apple's iPhone feedback page, www.apple.com/feedback/iPhone.html, to ensure that they are looking into this problem. If it is a hardware issue, I'll be pretty upset as I received my iPhone 4 on day 1 of availability and it is out of warranty. Hoping for a fix with an update. Please post on the feedback page.

Cisco vWLC - AP's not broadcasting SSID's
I am running the demo of the virtual WLC and have one 1142N AP connected to it. I have two WLAN's created and they are configured to broadcast their SSID's. However, when I look on my laptop or Android, I cannot see either of them. I checked the AP to see if it has the WLAN's on it and it does. I did this by going to Wireless -> Access Points -> Radios -> 802.11a/n AP Interfaces -> Details. Under Station Configuration Parameters -> Number of WLAN's, there are 2, which is correct.
I had this demo running on VMware workstation and had some bridging issues with it and thought that was the issue. I now have it running on ESX5.1 and am still having this issue. I am at a loss as to what is causing this problem.
One other note, the AP is receiving power through a power injector. Not sure if that makes a difference or not.
TIA for any help.
Danwhat are the WLAN ID's for them? If you created them as => 17, you need to create an AP group

Mifi 4510l will not Broadcast SSID
I have a problem with my Mifi (actually I had one replaced because of the very same problem. The device won't consistently broadcast an SSID. I tried to enter the network credentials ( I renamed the network and changed password one time when it would connect.) and the network is not found. I have been able to connect before using the new credentials. This problem mostly occurs when I have an LTE connection to Verizon. I usually get an. SSID when the device connects via EVDO. The software update has been applied.
Any ideas??found a solution!!
1. Use a wifi tool like "http://tools.meraki.com/stumbler#q=" to find wifi networks in the area you are having a problem. I used a very very slow public network.
2. See which channels and 802.11 protocols are least used. In my case only channels 1,6 and 11 were being used and all were 802.11 B or G.
3. make a note of above.
4. connect mifi to verizon in non congested area, and ssid should be broadcast.
5. point browser to 192.68.1.6.
6. change wifi settings to something that will work in your congested area. I chose the 802.11n protocol and wifi channel 4.
7. try mifi in congested area.
Worked like a charm!! I think the mifi has trouble with selecting a wifi channel in a congested area. hopefully this can be addressed in a firmware upgrade, but in the meantime, this works. -
Wdtv not connecting to wifi unless broadcasting SSID
Greetings from Sunny Spain 8)
I've been using for several years a wd tv live (currently version of firmware: 1.16.13) wirelessly attached to my network (Netgear router). My wifi security is wpa2. I also set my wifi, among other things, to NOT broadcast SSID.
I bought last week an Airport Time Capsule. For now it's working bridged to my Netgear router-modem, who gets the Internet connection. Wifi is supplied by the apple router.
I do have several boxes wirelessly attached to this new wifi: Sonos boxes, a PS3, a Wii, a Linux laptop, a Samsung printer.
But strangely enough I cannot connect my WDTV to this airport/wifi UNLESS I BROADCAST its SSID.
I've checked several times. Strangely enough (at least to me) I can still connect to a hidden SSID if I use my old router.
I've got no trouble getting the other devices (except for the Samsung printer who required a little work) to connect to the hidden SSID apple driven wifi. So methinks this is a bug, unless it's a feature Is there any kind of workaround available that anyone knows about?
Thanks for reading this. Please forgive my poor grammar skills. As you are probably already aware hiding the broadcast of a wireless network's SSID is not a fool-proof security measure but tends to introduce new problems ... like your WDTV not being able to connect.
I'm not sure why this is only happening with your new AirPort Extreme and not with your previous Netgear router but it may be due to how each manufacturer implemented this feature. I don't think it is a bug with your AirPort router and I'm not aware of any communications from Apple about it.
By the way, your grammar skills are excelente! -
WRT54GS Not broadcasting wireless
Not broadcasting SSID
I am able to get an IP address when wired in but I cannot see my SSID being broadcast. Windows firewall is OFF, I can see my neighbors SSID but I still cannot see mine. I have tried the SES setup, the manual setup etc and I cannot get the wireless to work. I am using comcast as my ISP, I am also using Norton. WindowsXP as well. I have also updated the firmware. I can be this dumb...well maybe so.
Any help would be appreciated.

Message Edited by galasso22 on 12-06-200604:29 PMhi....the function of the beacon interval is to synchronize the wireless network periodically.....by default it is 100ms....u have in turn increased it to a 1000ms.....normally we reduce th 75ms or 50ms....since it is working for u right now , do not make any changes.....if at all it stops....then change the beacon to 75 or 50....
the IP address can remain the same at 192.168.2.1 .....it will not make any difference....the lease time has to be defined in minutes...by default it is 24 Hrs , but if u want to specify a lease time , u will have to calculate the minutes and enter that value. -
Getting my F4580 to connect to my network thats not broadcasting it's SSID
I'm an Apple Mac user, I'm trying to connect my Deskjet F4580 to connect to my network wirelessly.
I am using a Belkin Pre N1 Wireless Router, which is set not to broadcast it's SSID.
I've tried entering the SSID manually on the setup for the F4580, but it can't see it. I do want to start broadcasting the SSID due to security issues.
How do I get the two speaking to one another.
Thanks in advance
Arbroathsmokie
This question was solved.
View Solution.Broadcast your SSID. Not broadcasting it is not a security measure. At all. There is freeware on the internet that can read your SSID whether you are broadcasting or not. Read more here.
Use WPA or WPA2 (not WEP which can also be broken with freeware) encryption with a strong password and enjoy more security and less hassle than you have now.

All SSIDs are not broadcasting...
I have a serious issue with my Cisco 4404 WLC. In from WLC, only some SSIDs are broadcasting the others are not broadcasting.... If I make a new WLAN and select it as broadcasting, but its not broadcasting correctly. I cannot see this in my device. What can be reason? Is there any restriction to the number of broadcasting SSIDs.
That's too many SSID's.... 3-4 is max I would go. What I would do is make sure your not using AP Groups and if you are, then make sure all the WLANS are in the ap group. WLAN ID 1-16 will be the only SSID's that are broadcasted on the AP, and WLAN 17 and up will not be and you will need to use ap groups for that. If this is all fine, then delete the ssid that is the issue and recreate it. You might have too many beacons in the air causing the clients not to see certain ones.
Thanks,
Scott

SSID not Broadcasting after reload
Hi all,
I have Build a 5508-HA Cluster (7.4.100.0) , hat to reboot this cluster due to Licens install.
After the reboot atleast one of the SSIDs was not broadcasting anymore, even the checkbox was checked.
What did I do:
Installed the Licenses @ Freiday 12:00
@17:15 reload active WLC, wait till controller is up again (a few minutes pingable)
@17:25 force failover to first controller.
check a few SSIDs but not all, those who where check are ok.
@monday 07:00 clients complaining not seeing the SSID (some where connected)
hat somebody the same problem?
is this a known problem?
How to avoid this problem?
Thanks
WillemI'm not sure it was only one SSID that hat problems.
The first messages was that one (1) SSID was not broadcasting and atleast one was broadcasting (no statement about the others).
The customer tells me now that e few other SSID where also not broacasting.
Can I check on PI 1.2.1 if a SSID was Broadcasting? -
I currently have a 5508 with ver 7.4 running 3500 and 3600 series AP. I have 3 SSID's on the controller already with one broadcasting. They are on WLAN 1, 2, 3. When I try to add a new WLAN I am unable to get it to broadcast the SSID. I have the WLAN enabled and I have the Broadcast SSID enabled. I have tried deleting and recreating the new SSID and still unable to get it to broadcast. If I enable one of the non broadcasting SSIDs I currently have on the WLC it will broadcast. It seems to just be any new WLANS that have the broadcast issue. Anyone have any ideas?
Thanks,
David

Second SSID not broadcasting on e3200
Has anyone seen an issue where the second SSID is not being broadcast from an e3200. I split the wireless networks and assigned a new name for the 5Ghz band. The broadcast SSID button is enabled for both networks. (2.4 & 5). The idea is I want to stream video on the 5Ghz band. Nothing seems to see it though, TV other PCs, etc.
Your devices must have a 5Ghz capable wireless adapter in order to see the 5Ghz band. You need to verify.

Set the Airport Extreme to not broadcast the SSID
Set the Airport Extreme to not broadcast the SSID
"Hiding" the SSID will do nothing to protect you from hackers.....and anyone else who wants to see your network, since there a numerous free utilities on the Internet that will reveal your network in seconds.
On the other hand, it might keep a few honest neighbors from seeing the name of your wireless network.
iOS devices often have trouble connecting to a "hidden" network, so you may need to display the network if your iPhone, iPad, etc have trouble connecting to the network.
Your call on this.
Assuming that you have Lion, Mountain Lion or Mavericks on your MacBook Pro.....
Open Macintosh HD > Applications > Utilities > AirPort Utility
Click on the AirPort Extreme icon, then click Edit in the smaller window
Click the Wireless tab at the top of the next window
Click Wireless Options at the bottom of the window
Enter a check mark in the box next to Create Hidden Network
Click Save, then click Update and allow a full minute for the AirPort Extreme to restart
