AP with radio signal strength configurable

Hi,
Is there any available cisco aironet model which enable administrator to configure the strength of the WiFi wireless radio signal? Example, we can tune to 10dB, 20dB, 30dB and yet maintaining the throughput (10 Mbps, 25 Mbps)

1) Some devices you configure the transmit power in the dBm values typically -1 0 1 2 5 8 11 14 17 20, other devices will do it based on mw values typically 100mw, 50mw, 25mw, 12.5mw, 6mw, 3mw, 1.5mw, etc.
2) There are some differences in the transmit power depending on the model of 1200 you have but for research purposes you should be fine.
3) No the transmit power can change based on the modulation See the charts below these are for an AIR-LAP1242AG-A-K9

Just wanted to clarify what you meant in this post. If you entered the router's IP address as the static IP for the laptop, you would get the symptoms that you are describing. Try entering a IP that isn't normally used like 192.168.1.142. (That is assuming that your router IP is the default 192.168.1.1.)
If that isn't the issue, please tell me what ipconfig is returning on both the laptop and the desktop.

TS1398 my problem is my iphone 4s is connected to the internet(wi-fi) with full signal strength but freezes when browsing and says "Cannot Open Page, Safari could not open page because the server stopped responding".

I already reset the iphone to its factory settings and erase all contents but still the browsing speed freezes or not searching at all. Sometimes it will work and fast but then the problem uccors every now and then. Iv'e been using iphone 4 for two years and I still have it and works fine compared to this IPHONE 4S.

Settings → scroll down to Safari → in Safari settings, I selected both Clear History and Clear Cookies and Data.
IF that does not work -
Restart or reset your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support
Finally - if problem still present -
Go to Settings>General>Reset
Reset the network settings - you will need to add the password of your home WiFi in your phone once more
The device should turn itself off & back on then go into Settings>Wifi and join your network

TS3623 I cannot activate my 3rd gn AppleTV due to NetworkTime problems, what is that? I am able to mirror fine. And my network read shows that I am accessing my network, with good signal strength, but the net work time has stopped me cold.

I am able to mirror fine, but that limits me, my wifi extend only to airplay, my ipad, my iphone, but not the store, or netflix Network stats are good, and signal strength excellent, but due to the problem of failing to set my Network time no activation. I have unplugged and replugged so many times my i need to see a chiropractor. What gives, I have seen this question on the forums but no diffinative answer. HELP!! —Bob

Try a reset or restore if you can get to that. I found when trying to use a wired ethernet setup (which wouldn't work but that is another story) that I couldn't even get to the menus without the atv3 wanting to connect with apple for the time. When I went back to wireless, I got the tome sync to let me get to the menus but then an apple rep had me restore or reboot (I forgot which sorry) and then I finally got my wired connection to work. That is, until tonight and I am having to download the 4 hour update. Download to what, I don't know.

How reliable is home phone connect with weak signal strength?

I live in an area that for the first year had decent signal strength. It was never strong but for the past 4 months my cell phones frequently can't make or receive calls. I complained to Verizon so much they finally gave me a network extender and now the service in my home is fine. My question is about a home phone connect for my Mother next door. She doesn't have internet so she can't have a network extender and mine won't reach that far (about 100 yards). I am able to make and receive calls at her house on my cell about 80% of the time, about the same as my house before the network extender. I just have a basic LG phone and I usually have 1 bar of service down there, never more. I have asked the sales people at Verizon and they all say SURE the home phone direct will work fine. It has a better antenna and transmitter than your cell phone. You won't have a problem. Has anyone had similar experience with using the home phone connect in a marginal signal area? If so did it have substantially better signal strength than a cell phone? My son has a new IPhone 4S and he always has a better signal than my little cheapie.

THANKS for the reply. I went to the Verizon store today and picked one up. I have a 14 day trial where it can be returned for a full refund if it doesn't work. The $35 activation fee is supposed to be nonrefundable but the guy said if it doesn't work right off the bat to call him (within a couple of days) and he could stop the activation without any charges.
In response to lewisr13 I don't have a home phone direct, only 3 cells at my house with the network extender. I have a very poor signal on my cell at my Moms house. She can't have a network extender because she doesn't have internet.
Anyway I brought the unit home today and walked all over her house. Sometimes I had one signal (out of 3) and about half the time I didn't have any. Of course when I had none I could not make or receive a call. I was about ready to box it up and take it back when I decided to go to an outside utility room, where I intended to mount it in the first place.
Low and behold there is a spot on the east facing wall of the utility room where it has TWO signals. If I move it more than 3-4 inches in any direction I lose one of them. It's been about an hour and so far they have glowed blue without blinking as long as I don't move it. Of course the phone works fine as long as they stay that way.
I am both pleased and worried. Pleased that it is performing so well and worried that it won't remain that way. The guy at the Verizon store was extremely helpful and told me to call him with any questions or problems. I called him and asked if he thought the signal would remain that way. He said he thought it would but didn't really know for sure. I have got my fingers crossed and will watch it very closely for the 14 days. Just my luck on the 15th day it might be lights out.

Text messages are sent via the cellular network, not wi-fi. Only iMessages are sent via wi-fi. Unless you have roaming turned on for the phone, or you have an unlocked phone that you installed a local SIM, you would continue to see No Service. That reflects your cellular carrier service. Connecting to wi-fi has no bearing on your cellular service, which is what displays on the status bar of the phone near the signal bars (circles/dots).

Why doesn't airport always send or receive with good signal strength

Why doesn't my MacBook Pro AirPort always send and receive when it indicated an excellent strength signal? When it doesn't work I have to turn AirPort off and then back on.

Horrendous signal strength, one or none bars where I had 5 with 3G

is it possible that pretty much everyone has a problem with the signal strength? I was apprehensive about the uncovered "revolutionary" antennae and...was proven right. My new iPhone has what can only be described as **THE worst signal response of all iPhones I had**! I am so unhappy about this that it borders rage. I am pondering returning it and asking for my money back. Also, does anyone have a problem with buggy Settings.app on the Phone tab? After about three attempts to activate FaceTime which will NOT work, it completely stops responding to the slider and I have to reboot the phone to (unsuccessfully) try again. WAY TO GO, APPLE!

I too have confirmed the issues shown in the videos about the antenna, however my signal strength in my home where I use my phone the most is way inferior to that of my 3GS even if you're not holding the phone! It's so bad that I am going to put the iPhone 4 back in the box and use my old phone till they get this resolved.

Will the bumper interfere with signal strength

This might be a stupid question but hear goes.
With the iphone 4 the antenna is built into the band around the phone. If I put the rubber bumper around the phone will that interfere with the signal strength..

Except the Apple one is hard plastic coated in rubber. The marware one is pure rubber with rubber pads for the buttons.
I would rather spend the $30.00 on Apple's version with the meta buttons, hard plastic coated in rubber and made to work perfectly with the iPhone 4 than to buy a molded piece of rubber that will stretch out and may make button pressing horrible.

WRT54GS signal strength -- upgrade vs settings

I have a WRT54GS version 1 router with firmware v. 2.07.1. I've had it for a long time, but I have never been thrilled with its signal strength. Of course, I defined a unique SSID for my network, and I use channel 7 instead of the default channel.
Even when I lived in an apartment, I could only get 50-75% signal strength to my Linksys 802.11b adapter that I use for my TiVo. Now across my house I get about the same.
It seems to me that there are two good options for trying to improve the signal strength:
1. Upgrade to an 802.11g adapter and make my network all-G instead of b/g.
2. Mess around with setttings in the router.
3. Upgrade the firmware.
I'm definitely going to do #1, and I don't have much faith that #2 will help much--though I'd like to hear others' thoughts on that.
The firmware is quite old, and I'd like to upgrade it, but I'm a little bit afraid of messing something up (esp. since this version of the firmware doesn't seem to have the "save configuration" option).
Should I be afraid to upgrade the firmware? If anything should go wrong (knock wood), are there ways of recovering?

Try upgrading the firmware i would suggest. There is no harm in upgrading the firmware.
Your current firmware is 2.07.1. Thats quite old. The latest firmware is 4.71.4.

The Setup for WRT54GS is almost same as mentioned here.
You need to reset the router after the firmware is upgraded. You will loose all the settings once the router is reset. You can open the setup page and configure the settings again. It might take some time but its worth the effort. Trust me, firmware upgrade will not do any harm to the outer but instead boost the performance.

PPC G4 iMac with WG111v2 (signal present, no internet in programs)

So, this computer used to have Tiger installed with a WG111v2 Netgear utility for wireless and worked fine. Since then, we installed Ubuntu on the machine with e17 and the wireless just worked in Linux- no need to install a driver at all. I guess BSD doesn't have a lot of driver compatibility.
Anyway, we put Tiger back on for my brother since he's addicted to iTunes and I'd rather have him with Unix than DOS (and he's wanted a Mac for a while anyway).
Only problem is, after installing the Netgear drivers and restarting to finish installation, internet won't work. I've gone to the Netgear Utility and entered my WPA-PSK TKIP encryption information, it connected and said the signal is between 48 and 69 percent (kinda' far away from the router). The internet works on every other wirelessly connected computer in the vicinity.
When I go to System Preferences / Network, it lists the USB adapter as Ethernet with a yellow light saying it has a self-assigned IP address using DHCP. I configured the connection to see if there were anything to change, but since we use dynamic DHCP in my house without a static IP, I figured it should just go, especially with the netgear utility saying the signal was strong enough.
But every application we try with internet says there is none (Software Update, Safari, iTunes, etc.).
So I guess what I'm asking is what other settings I have to configure to get this going? I've tried unplugging and replugging, restarting, everything in between (I'd expect Darwin to be a more mature UNIX than this). Please give me any helpful hints you can, since I'm on a sort of short schedule to get all of this working. ^^; It'd be nice to see more of the good in OS X soon before I reconsider installing Linux and making my brother go without iTunes.

Thanks for the speedy reply- it turns out that setting it to a higher than usual IP manually did the trick... SORT OF.
The Eternet Adapter in System Preferences / Network is now green and says the following.
"Eternet Adaptor (en1) is currently active and has the IP address 192.169.1.42. You are connected to the Internet via Ethernet Adaptor (en1)."
The Netgear Utility is also up with the signal strength confirmed at 42 percent. However, I still can't connect to the net. Going for a restart, jussec... No change. Here are some screenshots of the utility and pages I've configured in Network / (en1).

As far as I know, I don't have a specific DHCP ID or PPPoE with Comcast. I've wirelessly connected numberless computers to this network, but I'm not too shy to ask Comcast if it's not an OS X issue.

I updated to IOS 5 and now my signal strength drops sometimes clear to zero when I open an app.

I updated my Iphone 4 with the IOS 5 operating system. When I use an application, including the phone app, my signal strength bars will drop from 4 or 5 bars to 1 bar and sometimes to no bars and searching for a signal. When I exit the app the bars return tto what they were before. I have an AT&T plan that operates in Mexico which is where I am now. In Mexico it operates on the TelCell network. Before updating the op system I had no problems with the signal strength dropping when I used an app.

Have you gone to your date and time settings and verified that "set automatically" has been checked?
If you don't know where to go, it's Settings -> General -> Date and Time.

Comparision of Signal Strengths of Nokia Mobiles?

Hi all!
I'm looking forward to by a Nokia Cellphone. I'm living in a house with less signal strengths and I'm not looking forware that the providers will support more signal power in the near future. During the call is the signal or the voice clear understandable and sometimes not. Sometimes I can have a call for more than a minute and sometimes the connection is unlikly interrupted.
My questions:
1) Exists a list or ranking with types of cellphones have the best power/performance connecting to a GSM net?
2) Can you recommend a Nokia model for my signal challange!?

How come my signal strength dropped after 5.1.1 upgrade?
