AP works but no Internet

Hi all-
Here's the current dilemma.
I'm trying to add an AE to an admin network at our school. IPs are static on all devices, no DHCP.
I removed a WinXP machine from the network, transferred the static IP, subnet mask, router and DNS servers over to the AE thru Airport utility. Set it to bridge mode to remove the Double Nat warning.
The AE lites up just fine (green in both AU and on the device itself), but I get the 'no internet connection' warning. This connection with the same settings works just fine on the old XP machine, so I'm not sure what's keeping this AE from hookin' up.
Thanks,
Mark

If you are referring to the above symbol this would indicate that your Mac was unable to obtain an IP address. This typically is caused by the router and the modem not communicating properly with each other or a mis-configured network.

Encryption wouldn't matter except for Wifi.
While 10.2 might help, there's not much you can do on the Internet these days with less than 10.4.11

  • Airport Express ITunes working, but no internet connectivity...

I have two Airport Expresses. Left one at work. The one I left at work was the main one, the other was piggy backing on the first one.
So, without the main one, I held down the button to reset the piggy backing Airport, to reset it as a stand alone. Did that without any problem, plugged it into the speakers and to the internet, and the speakers/ITunes part works, but I can't get to the internet on the Airport.
Plugging the ethernet cable directly into my computer works. But when I plug the cable into the Airport, I can get on that Airport and play music on the speakers/Itunes, but no internet. Sorry, I'm being redundant.
Help says goto Internet Connect to see if Airport has internet connectivity, and that checks out fine. Yet, still can't connect.
Oh, and my Airport light is blinking yellow. Airport Admin Utility doesn't seem to have anything particular to say about that. Hmmmm.
Anyone know what I'm overlooking? Thanks in advance.

oops. this isn't airport for windows.
i'm going to repost under the correct heading.
    sorry.

  • Base Station appears to work but no internet? Please HELP!

Last night my internet and email was working fine. This morning I got no signal. I called the cable company and went through their diagnostics and determined that it is the Base Station I'm having problems with. When the modem is connected directly to my computer everything works fine, when I use the wireless I can't get on the internet or get email. The strange thing is that it says my airport is working and connected to the network. It also says that the basestation is connected to the internet but when I try to open a page I get nothing. Any suggestions?

I tried to setup my mother in laws brand new iBook, airport express and modem yesterday. I got it working when connected to the modem over ethernet and then set about adding the airport express. The first thing it did was upload verion 5.6 of the firmware and I then spend a number of hourse trying to get the thing working but it completely refused. The diagnostiocs said I was connected to the internet, but I could not connect to any servers. I called it a day and went back home.
Later last night I thought I would double check my own airport extreme settings to see if I could work out what I had done wrong. When I connected it asked if I wanted to upload the latest firmware so I said ok. I ended up with my setup in exactly the same situation. I then realised that it must be the 5.6 firmware that is causing the problem - but I couldn't even get on the apple website to find out what they were saying about it.
Anyway just got on now over dialup and there doesn't seem to be any mention of this problem other than this thread.
Has anyone else successfully uploaded 5.6 without getting this issue?
I'm currently downloaded 5.5.1 so I'll see if that fixes things.
I also noticed that I can't find a screen that lets you download 5.6 anywhere. Does anyone know if apple have withdrawn it?

  • Extreme base station worked, but no internet,... now locked out.

    Situation:
Cable modem connected to Extreme base station. Powerbook G4 with 10.3.9 and iMac with 10.3.9 connected by airport to base station. This has been working for more then a year. This morning I had no internet connection on the G4 or the iMac.
    Actions taken:
    - resarted base station -> no result
    - restarted modem -> no result
    - checked connection to Base station -> good wireless connection; I could ping the base station, but nothing beyond
    - connected Powerbook directly to modem by cable -> internet works
    - checked settings base station -> base station seemed to obtain a normal IP address trough the modem
    - hard reset of base station -> no result
    - upgraded firmware to 5.7 -> got message "An error occurred while reading the configuration." when using the airport utility
    - tried using password 'public' -> same message
    - connected by cable to base station -> same message
So things certainly didn't improve since this morning. What else can I try?
    regards, Wim
Powerbook G4, iMac Lime   Mac OS X (10.3.9)

    Thank you Will,
Today I upgraded the airport software on my Powerbook and was able again to connect to the Base station and use the airport utility. But I still could not connect to the internet.
Your post made me rethink my troubleshooting. I did restart the modem, but never disconnected it for more then a few seconds. I just tried it again, left it unconnected for over a minute and now it works again.
So thank you very much, your reply was very helpfull.
    Regards,
    Wim

  • Skype works, but no internet and mail

    All,
This sounds to funny to be true, but it is real.
My skype works on my Mini (via LAN cable to my Airport), but If I open Safari or FF (or Mail) I get a message that it is not connected to the internet. I checked the network settings and I do get an IP address.
I think it has something to do with the ports, but I do not know where to look for them.
    Who can help me?
    Cheers
    Bart

Ok, it can be found in premium section. As I don't use it - I have never check it!

  • Sound works, but not internet

I've been able to get music to play through my airport extreme, but when I try the internet it's like the ethernet cable isn't plugged into the station. I updated my address information with the broadband service (surewest) and have been working on the DNS settings; but after hours of this I have to admit that I don't have what it takes to get the internet to this laptop on this connection with this hardware..
Is there anyone who knows what to do?
    Thanks

I've been able to get music to play through my airport extreme, but when I try the internet it's like the ethernet cable isn't plugged into the station.
I believe you mean the AirPort Express Base Station (AX), not the AirPort Extreme Base Station (AEBS)...correct? (ref: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=107908)
I updated my address information with the broadband service (surewest) and have been working on the DNS settings; but after hours of this I have to admit that I don't have what it takes to get the internet to this laptop on this connection with this hardware.
I'm a bit unclear on what type of Internet service SureWest provides--DSL or cable. I did note that they recently changed their DNS servers, which might be the problem you're experiencing with their service. (ref: http://www.surewest.com/dns/)
Was this working before? That is, did you have the AX connected to the modem provided by SureWest and were able to get Internet access, or is this a new set up and are having problems getting it going? In either case, what make/model is the DSL/cable modem that SureWest provided with their service? Also, what is your current network configuration? Is it something like the following:
DSL/Cable modem > (Ethernet cable) > [Ethernet port] AX > (wireless) > wireless clients

  • Bt sport not working but all Internet channels ok

For over about 2 months we have got the error message up ipc6011 whenever we try to watch bt sport. All other Internet channel work fine including catch up and you view. This is beginning to get frustrating as it is getting upto the end of the free months and we have barely watched any games. I have gone through the suggestions for the error online and it still doesn't work. Anyone have any suggestions?

    Hi 123sim189,
Welcome to the forum and thanks for posting. Sorry you're having problems with the BT Sports service. You've mentioned going through the online help but can you double chack 'IPC' error codes on YouView and let me know if it helps. If you're still having problems after that drop me an email with your details and I'll take a look for you.

  • Voice chat for LAN Working :) ,  but For Internet Voice Chat Not Working

Hi, all I have developed voice chat for lan , but when i try to connect to internet it doesn't working. Pls let me know the reason why is it so?
I am behind the Firewall and firewall doesn't allow me to connect to server or transmit RTP data to the another User. Why is it So. Please Reply As Soon As Possible!!!!

That's exactly what i am talking about. Your IP address is private. Means, it is not routable outside your organization. Means, that you cannot receive anything from outside, because technically this private address does not exist outside your network.
However, you might be able to send audio to someone outside who has public IP address (PLEASE, read up about private and public IPv4 addresses and NAT in order to understand what your problem is. Just one Wiki page that you can dig up in Google.com).
Now you simply cannot use your chat from inside your organization to chat with outside people. It will not work. You need public IP addresses in both ends (i.e. you and remote party) + firewall rules must allow UDP traffic for certain ports, that your program uses.
If you want to overcome private addressing problem manually, i dont know how to do it. But what i know for sure is that it would be painful. My application that i made uses a VoIP server (SIP server and an RTP proxy server). These servers do private address handling (NAT handling) for my audio/video streams.
You have an option though. Go to your network admin and lick his/her brain. Ask for a public IP address (they might have some in reserve). Do the same thing at the remote end.

  • Network is working but no internet on macbook pro?

I have a MacBook Pro which is a year old. All along, I've had no problems with connecting to the internet over wifi or an ethernet cable. However, I can no longer browse web pages or do anything internet-related on my macbook. It can't be a problem with my router or network because internet works fine on my HP desktop and on my phone.
I can't connect to the internet even over an ethernet cable either.
I really don't know much about all the technicalities involved, so could someone PLEASE help me out.

Go step by step and test.
    1.Power Cycle
Power off the router. Unplug it from the wall. Wait a while.
Plug it back to the wall. Power the router on. Wait until all the lights are lit properly.
       It will take a while.
      Restart the computer.
      Start up in Safe Mode.
       http://support.apple.com/kb/PH11212?viewlocale=en_US
    2.  Turn off Extensions, if any.
         Safari > Preferences > Extensions
    3. Turn off proxies, if selected.
System Preference > Network > Advanced  > Proxies Tab
Under "Select Protocol", uncheck any box if selected.
         Click "OK" then  "Apply"
    4. Uninstall anti-virus software, if any.

  • Wep password rejected - Airport works but no internet connection

With my iMac i'am connected to internet via my Sitecom router WL143 and WEP 128bits hex password. My new MacBook won't accept the WEP password. Still get a warning that the password is wrong. My MacBook can see all routers in the neighberhood. Have ones tried at a familymember, internet connection works perfect (not Sitecom).
Is my type of router the problem? Do i had to buy an other brand?
Who can help. Thanks in advance.

Open System Preferences->Network and find your connection named "Airport". In the right column hit the "Advanced" button in the bottom right hand corner. In the drop-down select "DNS" and put either OpenDNS.com (208.67.222.222 & 208.67.220.220) or Google DNS (8.8.8.8 & 8.8.4.4) in the DNS settings and hit apply. See if one of those helps and you can tell this by opening /Applications/Utilities/NetWork Utility and see if you can ping apple or Google by the DNS (www) name with it. This way you can see if the it works.

  • Phone 3gs lost network connection-phone works but no internet

iPhone 3GS with latest ios4 has been working fine with solid 3g speed and internet connection.  All of a sudden the network connection was gone and I can't re-establish it.  The phone works OK and 3g speed is 4-5 bars.  Any ideas what happened and how to fix to get a network connection??

Hello Brigitte/Leon. Welcome to the Apple Discussions!
Are your AirPort Express Base Stations (AX) the older 802.11g or the newer 802.11n models? In the current network configuration, how do you have each of the AX's configured:
o To join an existing wireless network, or
o As remote base stations in a WDS with the 802.11n AirPort Extreme Base Station (AEBSn), or
o As extensions of the AEBSn's 802.11n wireless network?

  • The wi-fi on my ipod touch is connected but the internett is not working! Help

Soo annoying, it's connected but the internett is not working. I don't know what to type in or what to do, so I need help.

Are you 100% positive you are connected?  Head to Settings - Wi-Fi and tap the > next to the network you are connected to?  What is listed for an IP address?  If it's in the 169.x.x.x range, it means your iPod did not properly receive a valid IP address via DHCP from your modem/router. So the 169.x.x.x address is a self-assigned one.
This can usually be resolved by a reboot of your router.  You can do this by unplugging it for about 30 seconds.  After it powers back up, try reconnecting it.  It wouldn't hurt to try a reset of your iPod as well.  To do this, press and hold both the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons together long enough for the Apple logo to appear.

  • I get wireless connection but my internet does not work on my ipad 2

I get wireless connection but my internet does not work on my ipad 2

    Some things to try first:
    1. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord for 30 seconds or longer) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
    2. Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.
    3. Change the channel on your wireless router (Auto or Channel 6 is best). Instructions at http://macintoshhowto.com/advanced/how-to-get-a-good-range-on-your-wireless-netw ork.html
    4. Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.
    5.  Renew IP Address: (especially if you are droping internet connection)
        •    Launch Settings app
        •    Tap on Wi-Fi
        •    Tap on the blue arrow of the Wi-Fi network that you connect to from the list
        •    In the window that opens, tap on the Renew Lease button
