AP1131 Register with WLC 4400 problem

hi guys
can some one help me how to acheive the below :
AP ==> switch vlan 10 ==> router1 ==> router2==>switch trunk ==.> WLC
I want to register AP in WLC. I have tried with both dhcp and static ip address option from AP. The request is sent from AP but there is not hits in controller. Can some one help me on this with step by step process.
the error messahe i am getting in AP is :
LWAPP_ CLIENT_EVENT : spamResolveStaticGateway - gatewway found
LWAPP_ CLIENT_EVENT : spamHandleDiscoveryTimer : Could not discovery any MWAR.
Any idea what to do to fix this...
in my router 1 i have enabled DHCP like below :
ip dhcp pool AP-REG
   network 10.104.1.16 255.255.255.240
   default-router 10.104.1.17
   dns-server 192.168.1.10
option 60 ascii "Cisco AP c1130"
   option 43 ascii "10.102.1.108"
10.102.1.108 is Controller IP address, both direction i can ping . network side no problem.
Please help me to fix this.
your earliest response would be appreciated.
thanks

Hi, the same problem with AP1242AG upgrade with CAPWAP image. I'v
e installed on remote site withou first Priming it to the WLC4402.  I read on Cisco that is necessary Priming the AP at the main site where the controller is, and only after that you can deploy the H-REAP AP on the remote site.
Is that correct?
Regards.

  • APs not registering with WLC

Hi guys, i'll try to explain our trouble as best as i can:
Im trying to do some basic scenario here. Picture this: One L3 Switch connecting a 4402 Controller, 3 Administrative Vlans for APs (63, 93 and 127) and 3 Vlans for clients (one for each Administrative vlan, 16, 64 and 95 respectively). Also, in one of the administrative vlans (63) lives the Management and AP Manager interfaces of the controller. The L3 Switch does the DHCP business also, including giving the Controller IP (option 43).
Here is the deal: When i try to connect one LWAP AP in to the same VLAN as the controller (63) it does gets an IP address of the segment and also gets the Controller IP. BUT, it cannot reach the Controller Management interface, not by ping nor by registering. (i connected a laptop to chek this behavior and it cant ping the Management Interface either)
Then, if i connect the same AP to another VLAN (say.. 93)it will get an IP address of the segment, IP of the controller and it will reach the Controller by means of PING and also discovery request/discovery response. BUT, it wont register with the controller. In both cases, the L3 switch can ping just fine the APs and the Management Interface.
After sniffing little bit I can see that the AP does in fact send the Join request message to the AP Manager interface of the Controller, but it wont get an answer. Then, in the CLI of the Controller (debug lwapp events enable) i can see that the controller does recive the discovery request and send the discovery response messages, but never sees the join request frome the AP.
Configs of the switch and controller attached.
Also, i checked the date of the controller and its up to date, the certificates of the APs should be fine, they will expire in 2 o 3 more years.
Oh, and the Controller its not directly connected to the Switch, its connected to another 3500 switch using a GBIC, but its just used as a media converter... after that switch its connected to a trunk in the L3 Switch.. and yes, the Switch with the controller has all the needed vlans configured so they can be seen on the trunks.
Any help would be greately appretiated.

Hi again... guess what? I came to work today, turned on all the equipment.. and it works! God knows why but now the APs can register. For your information I did reset the devices before, so i dont know what happened.
Anyway there is still a problem. If the APs are in the same VLAN as the controller, they cant see it. And this goes for every device, if I have 2 APs and one laptop in the same vlan they cant ping each other but can ping their GW. Any comments on this?
    Thanks in advance!

  • Access points not registering with WLC

    Hi all,
I have a 5508 WLC in LAG mode and have 14 1231G WAPs connected to it already. However I still have to migrate 9 more WAPs from my old 4404 controller to the new 5508 controller. I cannot get remaining 9 WAPs to register with new WLC. I found following debug message from the WLC. My WLC license is valid for 50 APs. Have any of you guys seen this? What am I doing wrong here? Any lead is much appriciated.
I have LAG setup with 2 ports out of 8 ports. Don't understand why it's giving error of not having enough capacity.
Any advice is much appriciated. Thanks in advance.

    Guess the SSC got corrupted..
Run the command "debug pm pki enable" on the WLC, copy the SSC and paste it on the WLC and see if that helps.. here is the link to do the same!!

Your WLC seems to be running version 7.3 which is not supported with 37xx AP platform.
You need to run WLC with version 7.6.100.0 onwards to support these new AP's.
For more details check the Wireless Software Compatibility Matrix.

  • NAC ADSSO with WLC 4400

I'm setting up this scenario today and have never done that and was wondering if there are any 'gotchas' i need to watch out for, or anything any of you have done/learned while implementing this.
I do have one specific question, the preshared key under vpn auth / vpn concentrators, where the wlc is to be added, where is the preshared key configured at the on wlc?
NAC is running 4.1.3.1, not sure about WLC.
I do have ADSSO working on the wired network, so at least that part is done.
    TIA

I am currently testing NAC for wired guests and AD SSO for staff. We are planning to offer wireless guest services using Cisco infrastructure once wired is working. I was wondering about NAC and wireless guest services. We are deploying in-band as it requires for wireless so is there anything I am missing or will need to integrate wireless with NAC.

  • PALM with WLC 4400 (Web Auth Portal)

We cannot get the Web Portal splash page to display on wireless Palm units....the site simply hangs. Is there any fixes out there for this problem. Thanks for all replies!!

Has anyone else seen this Palm/WebAuth issue or found a fix? I am seeing this on our Palm devices too. Running 4.x code with internal guest auth, laptops work just fine with the https://1.1.1.1 redirect, but the Palm just hangs. Could it be the certificate is not valid and the Palm has no way to prompt for that message like a laptop. Any ideas?

  • Trouble with WLC 4400 to 5508 Migration

We recently received a 5508 WLC and are in the process of migrating AP's from a 4402. The ios versions on the 5508 is 7.6.100.0 and the 4402 is 7.0.240.0. On our new WLC the 5508 we decided that we wanted to create new SSIDs and new vlans for better management. Is there an easier way to migrate ap's from the 4402 to the 5508? When we move one at a time it's tedious and sometimes we run into certificate issues, I've been doing as much research as possible as I'm helping someone with this move but many findings come to placing the new 5508 in the same mobility group as the 4402 then  move the ap's from the 4402 to the new 5508. The new 5508 is in a mobility group of it's own separate from our 4402's. We have several but are only moving ap's from one 4402 at a time. Is this logical to place the 5508 in the same mobility group and move the ap's to it? If so how do I move the ap's from the 4402 to the 5508? Any suggestions, comments, help would be more then appreciated, thanks!

The fastest way to move APs from one controller to another (without using WCS/NCS/PI) is via CLI.
The command is very simple:  config ap primary-base [5508 name] [AP name] [5508 Management IP address]
All you need is to put this in a spreadsheet and concatenate the AP name and you're set.  Cut-and-paste to the 5508 and wait for the APs to start swinging across.

  • Error handling message: flex.messaging.MessageException: No destination with id '' is registered with any service

    Hi,
We are using both Remoting and HttpService calls for our business application.
We were able to communicate with the LCDS server till this point with whatever default settings provided for AMFChannel configuration in services-config.xml through a flex client. Also we have a clustered environment for this servers which works out fine till now.
Now for performance enhancement improvements, we started using Caching Mechanism for our HttpService urls (through some third party service), which will now be cached on the network instead of accessing every time from our clustered servers. But all our AMF calls through Remoting services are still the same.
So after migrating to this Caching environment, we started encountering intermittent issues where some of our AMF calls were failing with falling exception trace :
16:03:40,576 INFO [STDOUT] [Flex] [ERROR] Error handling message: flex.messaging.MessageException: No destination with id '' is registered with any service.

    code = Server.Processing
message = No destination with id '' is registered with any service.
    details = null
    rootCause = null
    body = null
    extendedData = null
So i do not understand, most of the times the AMF calls works correctly and some times it fails with above fail trace.
    Any suggestions would be appreciated.
    Thanks,

It might be a bit late but replying for anyone who lands on this page facing this same problem.
The solution for "No destination with id '<my dest id>' is registered with any service" problem is that you have to make sure your destination definition is added in your:
    C:\ColdFusion9\wwwroot\WEB-INF\flex\messaging-config.xml
Secondly, If you are deploying it on a ColdFusion Server, then you have to make sure exact same definition is added in Server messaging-config.xml file as well.
    This should solve this problem.
While we are at it, wanted to point another possible gotcha.
if your Server is using SSL protocol i.e. it has https:// rather than http://, Then within your <destination> definition block in messaging-config.xml, you have to add appropriate secure channels in <channels> section. You can find all available channel definitions in
    C:\ColdFusion9\wwwroot\WEB-INF\flex\services-config.xml

  • WLC 4400 and IDS/IPS

One of my clients is keen to know the IDS/IPS capabilities with WLC 4400. Any hints? Also can anyone explain IDS sensor to me? Thank you.

There are a number of IDS capabilities that are highlighted regarding the WLC. Unfortunately, you will find that the product continues to suffer from ongoing false positives and a severe lack of documentation (and support) for the IDS.
For example, if you utilize containment against a rogue AP (which is used to prevent users from attaching to the rogue), the system detects its own containment messages as a denial of service attack. The system is not intelligent enough to know that it is the source of these messages and ignore them.
Initially, Cisco flagged these false positive as "cosmetic" and claimed that to fix them required a "feature request that must be run through the Cisco sales team" which we did in the spring of 07. Cisco has be VERY slow in coming around on getting these fixed (it has been well over a year since these have been documented and they are still not resolved in the current version of 4.2).
The Wireless IDS system is also famous for other false alarms which Cisco TAC has linked to alarming on normal behavior when a client goes out of range and a string of deauthentication messages is sent to make sure that the conversation has ended. The WLC 4.2 continues to flag these as false-positive denial-of-service attacks even though the IDS parameters could be adjusted (from the factory) to account for the known 64 repeated deauths that are sent.
The IDS file is capable of "tuning" but the parameters are very lightly documented. In fact, the IDS parameter file itself had the least sparse version of documentation and it is a text file only 200-lines long.
In terms of determining if a rogue AP is on-wire. This functionality does not work reliably (not just if there is no path on the wired network to the controller which is understandable) but even if the rogue AP is on the same subnet as the controller. It just plain does not work.
If you are attempting to determine if there are clients on the rogue AP, this mechanism works with limited success since the AP has to catch the client attaching during its brief scan interval. This results in misleading information.
There are other false alarms that appear to be related to a specific chipset (using the OUI / first octet of the MAC address). However, there has been very little movement on Cisco's part in getting resolution to getting these anomalies addressed. The basic attitude has been "if we didn't see it in our lab in San Jose when we wrote the code, there's nothing we can do". Since the IDS lacks any ability to "phone home" (sending the alarms it is seeing to the development team) they end up having to develop in a relatively limited environment.
For more information, please reference the following:
Wireless LAN Controller IDS Signature Parameters
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/tech/tk722/tk809/technologies_tech_note09186a008063e5d0.shtml
I would send you the link to some of the bugs, such as CSCsj06015, CSCsh35010, CSCsk60655, etc. but the Cisco bug tool ( http://tools.cisco.com/Support/BugToolKit/ )is currently not working (no doubt the system is getting overworked). Maybe the site will be up when you read this.
In the interest of fairness, there have been efforts over the past year by Cisco to address these false alarms and a number of them appear to finally be resolved.
Bottom line: In my opinion, the wireless IDS is still not ready for prime time. To quote my customer, "I just can't trust it". Unless you set your customer's expectations fairly low, you will both end up disappointed.
That said, the product itself still has many compelling reasons to implement it including ease of installation and management. If you are willing to wade through the various bugs in the IDS and WCS it still is the best game in town.

  • WLC 4400 - Change IP address

    Hi,
We have a WLC4400 controller with about 30 LAP. We moving to a new IP scope and was wondering what is the best way to change the IP address of the controller. We have tried doing this via GUI however we have to power cycle the controller to get it back online using the old ip address.
    Any help appreciated.
    Thanks.

    Hi Mark,
Have you checked if there is any DNS entry for below name?
    CISCO-CAPWAP-CONTROLLER.localdomain
Also verify if DHCP Option 43 is configured on the network which also gives the information about the WLC to the AP's.
As far as im aware there is no way you can identify how exsisting AP has already registered with WLC
But you could try below when a new AP register witht he controller. To view the method used by an AP to discover the controller, view the console output of the AP as it searches, or issue the following command from a controller that receives the discovery request and search for IE 58 from the AP which indicates the discovery method used to resolve the controller IP address:
    debug capwap packet enable

  • Register APs at remote site with WLCs at the core via Metro E.

    All,
I have problem with register APs at the remote site with WLCs at the core.
All of my WLCs are on main site; and the majority of APs are on same subnet and same site with the WLCs. This works just fine.
However I have a remote site with connected to the core via metro E. And I am unable to make the APs at this site register to the controllers at the core.
On remote site APs and PCs are on subnet. And PCs are work just fine. I have the DHCP scope options 43 set for the ip address of the WLCs.
    Metro E interfaces are on 192.168.0.0 /24.
Clients (PCs and APs) at remote are on 192.168.56.0 /24
I have the configuration on the Metro E and and remote site on the attachment.
    Thank in advantage.

To get APs registered, make sure AP is getting an ip address and can ping WLC
Once this is verified, run the following debugs on WLC CLI and attach it to the thread:
    - debug mac addr
    - debug capwap OR lwapp events enable
    - debug capwap OR lwapp errors enable
    - debug pm pki enable
    To stop debug
    - debug  disable-all
In case you have 'console' access to remote site AP, capture AP boot up and then run "debug ip udp" on AP CLI
    To stop this debug
    AP# undebug all
