  • Error when migrating AP 2600 from Autonomous to Lightweight

    Hello,
I am trying to migrating AP 2600 series that came with autonomous image 15.2 to lightweight using the Cisco Prime Infrastructure built-in migration template.
The AP successfully downloads the image from an external TFTP server but fails at updating the environment variables.
The logs show that the AP should download a text file from Cisco Prime but fails to do so:

    Hi David,
I think 2600 AP not supported on Prime Infra for autonomous to Ligtweight migration.
    PI 1.2, 1.3, 1.4 , 2.0
Only these APs are supported: Autonomous to Lightweight Migration Support
    Cisco Aironet 1130 Access Point
    Cisco Aironet 1200 Access Point
    Cisco Aironet 1240 Access Point
    Cisco Aironet 1310 Bridge

  • 3700 AP - Best way to convert back from Autonomous to LIghtweight

I have a 3700 AP that I have up & running as Autonomous. I recently got a 2504 WLC and would like to put the AP back to Lightweight and run it from the 2504.
The 2504 is running 8.0.110.0 code and I have the current 3700 Lightweight Recovery image and IOS downloaded as well.
I have done done some searches and most of he articles are conversion to Autonomous. Not much is out there for putting it back. Some articles just mention needing the Lightweight  recovery image while others state I can use the Mode button and just have a TFTP server running  in a specific subnet and the AP will "pull" down the code and convert back.  Almost all of the articles refer to old model APs...
Looking for clarity in the process as I certainly don't want to brick this 3700 AP.
    Thx.

    Hi
You can use either methods & it will work (even for 3700)
If you using mode button method, make sure you rename the recovery image something like this ap3g2-k9w7-tar.default. Refer this post for detail
    http://mrncciew.com/2013/12/13/ap-conversion-using-mode-button/
    Normal method is described here

  • Converting a 1260AP from Autonomous to Lightweight mode

Is the process for converting 1260 APs to lightweight mode any different from converting 1140s or 1250s? I've converted several APs to LWAP mode but this is my first 1260.  Four 1260s need to be converted.
I have one in a remote location that seems to be comatose. Here are the steps I took to convert the AP.  Did skip/miss a step?
    1. uploaded code to the AP  ap3g1-rcvk9w8-tar.152-2.JB.tar
    2. configured the AP for DHCP. It successfully leased a DHCP address. Controller information is provided via DHCP Option 43.
    3. saved the configuration
    4. verified the code, successful
    5. disabled wireless radios
    6. installed the lightweight code using the command archive download-sw /safe flash:/ap3g1-rcvk9w8-tar.152-2.JB.tar
         The installation was successful
    7. rebooted the AP
After that nothing. The AP has not leased another IP address. The switchport is active. The APs MAC address is registering in the switches MAC address table.  The AP is receiveing PoE from the switch. I noticed that this AP is only receiving 6.2W of power where the three are getting anywhere between 8.8W and 9.3W. I am unable to ping the old static IP of the AP too.
    Any suggestions?

can you console into the AP and post it's boot up cycle?  Let it capture for two reboots of the AP.
Can you also share the config of the switchport this AP is connected to?

    Dears,
I use to have wireless infrastructure based on autonomous APs 1142n, auth w/ 802.1x and everything was fine.
My Company decided to implement WLC 5508, and I changed only 2nd floor (2 APs) as lightweight and implement WLC over there as pilot testing...

  • Autonomous To Lightweight Mode Upgrade Image 1042

    Hi,
I have two AP1042 that I want to convert to lightweight, but I'm not able to find the software for that. I can only find the IOS software. Is it possible to convert? Is it located some other place?
    Regards,
    Patrick

    Vikas,
You can convert any of these AP's from autonomous to lightweight and vice versa.  The requirement is that you need to be able to download the image.  If you have the support to download, then you can follow one of these instructions:

  • Converting air-sap2602i-s-k9 from autonomous to LWAPP

    Hi guys,
I need your expertise regarding how to convert from autonomous to LWAPP using AIR-SAP2602i-s-k9 with IOS version of ap3g2-k9w7-xx.152.-2.JA.
I'm following these commands but it is not available
debug capwap console cli or debug lwapp console cli
I cannot proceed to convert it Did I miss something or the 2600 series doesn't support LWAPP convertion ?
    thank you
    Erik

    Hi Erik,
Those commands aren;t going to work, they're debug commands for a lightweight AP.
Here is the guide to upgrading:
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/wireless/access_point/conversion/lwapp/upgrade/guide/lwapnote.html
It's pretty simple though, get the lightweight software follow the upgrade tool instructions to load new software.
Though, you have a newer AP so you'd be ok just to load the new software on, if it's only for a small amount this is fine.
    Thanks
    Chris

  • Problen to convert an AP from IOS to Lightweight

    Hi,
I'm try to convert some AP's from IOS to Lightweight using the Ugrade Tool version 3.4 but I get an error. I used a sniffer and I saw that the Upgrade Tools start a tftp copy of a "validate.txt" file from the AP to the PC where it is installed. I don't know what is this file and what it should contain. I don't find any document about it. Can some one tell me how create this file and where put it?
    Thamk you in advance
    Regards
    Giovanni

    Hi Leo,
I don't have the print screen of the error, I recieve the message form the Upgrade Tool to check if there is firewall between AP and tftp , but the problem is that the file "validate.txt" in not present so the requestt go in timeout. With the sniffer I see the command from Upgrade Tool (my pc) to AP " copy tftp://(ip address my PC)/validate.txt flash:" The AP send a request for get the file but on the PC that file is not present and I don't know what I have to do.
I try with AP1131,AP1241 and AP1231. The AP and the WLC are on different subnet but connected to the same L3 core switch, the PC where I start the Upgrade Tool is remore.

  • Conversion of an AIR-AP1120B from autonomous to LAP

Does anyone know if it's possible to convert the AIR-AP1120B from autonomous to LAP?

    Hi Federico,
Sadly, the 1120 with "B" Radio is not supported :(
    Support for the 1121 was added in WLC version 4.0.155.0 Have a look at these related docs;
    Software release 4.0.155.0 New Features
LWAPP for Cisco Aironet 1100 Series Access Points (802.11g radio only) Allows the Cisco Aironet 1100 Series Access Point to be upgraded from autonomous access point mode to lightweight mode using the autonomous to lightweight mode upgrade tool.
Note You must install software release 4.0.155.0 on the controller before connecting 1100 series access points to the controller.

    LWAPP Upgrade Tool Troubleshoot Tips
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/tech/tk722/tk809/technologies_tech_note09186a008072d9a1.shtml
Access points must run Cisco IOS Release 12.3(7)JA or later before you use the upgrade tool.
    System Requirements
You can use the Autonomous to Lightweight Mode upgrade tool to install Cisco IOS Release 12.3(11)JX on these access points:
**All 1100 series access points containing MP21G (802.11g) radios
All 1130, 1230, and 1240 series access points
All modular 1200 series access points running Cisco IOS software and containing these supported radios:
    802.11g: MP21G, MP31G
    802.11a: AIR-RM21A-x-K9, AIR-RM22A-x-K9
All 1300 series access points in access point mode
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/wireless/access_point/ios/release/notes/b311jx1.html
Cisco has released a free tool called the "Autonomous to Lightweight Mode Upgrade Tool" that allows selected Cisco Aironet autonomous access point models to be configured for lightweight mode operation.
The Autonomous to Lightweight Mode Upgrade Tool supports the following models:
Cisco Aironet 1240AG Series access points
Cisco Aironet 1230AG Series access points
    Cisco Aironet 1200 Series access points that contain 802.11g (AIR-MP21G-x-K9) and/or second-generation 802.11a radios (AIR-RM21A-x-K9 or AIR-RM22A-x-K9)
Cisco Aironet 1130AG Series access points
**Cisco Aironet 1100 Series Access Points that contain 802.11g radios (AIR-AP1121G-x-K9)
Cisco Aironet 1300 Series Access Points/Bridges (AIR-BR1310G-x-K9 or AIR-BR1310G-x-K9-R). A Cisco Aironet 1300 Series operating in Lightweight Access Point Protocol (LWAPP) mode only operates as an access point. This series does not support LWAPP bridging mode.
The Autonomous to Lightweight Mode Upgrade Tool supports a process to migrate an autonomous access point from autonomous mode to lightweight mode. Unlike a VxWorks to Cisco IOS Software upgrade, this process is a Cisco IOS Software upgrade to the existing Cisco IOS Software image-not an operating system "swapout". In converted access points operating in lightweight mode, Cisco IOS Software continues to run on the access point, while LWAPP is used to communicate with a wireless LAN controller. Since LWAPP supports automatic access point configuration, there is no need to retain or convert the original autonomous Cisco IOS Software access point configuration.

  • Upgraded outdoor 1310G bridge from Autonomous to LWAPP

I recently got a pair of outdoor 1310G bridge radios to create a bridge. I upgraded one of the APs from Autonomous to LWAPP so that it could connect to our 4402 controller so that it could be monitored and controlled by it.
Everything looks like it upgraded fine with the upgrade tool never got any errors however the file: Config_18June2009_95613.csv that is suppose to have a hash key so that I can load that into the WCS or directly into the WLC is blank nothing is in that document. So at the moment the AP is not joining up with the WLC. Anybody have any advice?
    Thanks,
    Ryan

    Hi Ryan,
You can run 'debug pm pki enable' when the AP is trying to join to find out the hash key.

I need to upgrade several 1252s from autonomous to LWAPP.
I have not been able to find the upgrade tool for 1250s or instructions for CLI upgrade.
I wil be using NCS to do final configuration once the APs come online.
    Can someone assist?
    Thanks,
    Kristin

So long as you pull the rcv file for the AP you should be able ti use NCS to do the conversion.
Other than that a standard AP upgrade should work, with the rcv file as well.

  • Migration from autonomous access point mode to lightweight mode on 1530

1500 series is not mentioned on:
    http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/td/docs/wireless/access_point/conversion/lwapp/upgrade/guide/lwapnote.html
Can it actually be upgraded just by changing IOS from APto CAP?

The 1530 should have the image k9w8 alreadyin flash:
    Autonomous Mode Configuration
The 1530 Series allows the Unified  (controller-based) and Autonomous mode software to be loaded at the  factory on the same hardware part number. This eliminates the need for  separate part numbers for controller-based units and autonomous mode  units.
At boot-up, the default mode is controller-based.  The 1530 will power up and begin searching for a controller. Once it  joins the controller, it will download the active Unified image from the  controller. This is the same operation as other Cisco controller-based  APs.
For Autonomous mode, the user should take the following steps:
Step 1 Power the AP and connect to the console.
Step 2 From the Command Line, enter:
AP # capwap ap autonomous (# means privileged EXEC mode)
Step 3 The system will respond with "Convert to Autonomous image. Proceed? (yes/[No]):"
Step 4 Type "yes" to confirm.
Step 5 The AP will then re-boot and load the Autonomous image. The unified image is erased.
Step 6 Once the 1530 has booted in autonomous mode, configuration of the AP can done by following the procedure outlined here:
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/partner/docs/wireless/access_point/12.4_10b_JA/configuration/guide/scg12410b.html
You can probably issue a dir or show flash: and then if the image is there, you can boot to it.
    Example:
    config t
    boot system flash:/ap3g2-k9w8-mx.v152_4_jb/ap3g2-k9w8-mx.v152_4_jb

  • Convert Autonomous to lightweight AP - Static IP Address

    Hi,
I've converted a couple of Autonomous APs to lightweight recently and once they reboot they have a static IP configured on them, which then requires console access to remove the static IP.
Below are the commands I run to convert the AP:
    AP#archive tar /xtract ftp://username:password@FTP Server IP/ap1g2-rcvk9w8-tar.152-2.JB3.tar flash:/
    AP(config)#boot system flash:/filename
    AP#copy run start
Is there something I'm missing in my process which will prevent the AP from having a static IP address when it reboots and loads the lightweight image?
    Thanks,

    AP#copy run start
Instead of saving the config, you need to delete the config using the command "wr default".
