AP3 does not recognise movie files from Sony HD camcorder

I tried to import footage from a new Sony HDD camcorder, Aperture uploaded the stills ok but couldn't upload the movies with an error message saying 'Unknow File Format'.
However iPhoto uploaded the movies no problem. The file format is .MPG
If anyone can offer any advice on what I need to change to upload MPG format that would be most appreciated. Thanks.

Are you sure the format is .MPG -- Sony HD camcorders are typically outputting AVCHD files, which Aperture does not read? Nevertheless, not sure if .MPG is supported either.
f you open Aperture Help and search on Video, you find the following:
File Formats You Can Import into the Library
Aperture supports most image, audio, and video file formats captured by digital cameras. An example of the file types and formats that can be imported into your Aperture library are:
• GIF
• JPEG
• JPEG2000
• PNG
• PSD (8- and 16-bit)
• TIFF (8- and 16-bit)
• BMP
• DNG
• RAW files from a variety of supported digital cameras
• AIF
• WAV
• MOV

  • Aperture does not recognise TIF files from Nikon CoolScan

    The TIF files from my Coolscan are good in every other application, but Aperture does not recognise them. I've tried re-saving the TIFs as JPG and PDS but Aperture doesn't recognise any file generated from the TIF. Maybe it's something to do with the scanner driver? Any ideas how to load these files into Aperture?

    You might check the color space that is assigned to the files. If you are using Nikon Scan software to manage your CoolScan, there is a preference for setting the color space of the saved file. FWIW, Nikon CoolScan .nef files are a 'raw' file, not camera raw, that was/is a Nikon proprietary format for their scans. If you use the Nikon Scan for image editing, the edits are non-destructive in saved files and can be adjusted by re-opening the file in NS. Adobe first made editing camera raw available in early 2003 and the Nikon format preceded that. Nikon's camera raw format also has the .nef extension, but is not the same as the CoolScan .nef-- really confusing. I suggested checking the color space, because Nikon has different internal names for Adobe RGB(1988) as well as their own Wide Gamut space.
    All said, I've not had a problem opening .tif scan files in Aperture.

  • SD reader does not recognise .mov files

    i am trying to import .mov videos from an SD card reader, the card reader is recognising the photos on the card but is not displaying the videos for import... Any suggestions ??

    Guys,
    I appreciate anyone who wanted to help me with the described issue. However, all the recommendations were just a scratch of bushes...
    I decided to review more forums that discuss about Ricoh made flash media controller drivers and I hit the nail...
    Thanks to a fellow who experienced the same problem but with other brand of laptop that uses Ricoh drivers.
    I checked his recommendation and bingo - SD reader in T61 machine recognizes SDHC 8 GB my cards and everything works fine.
    Before leading everyone to that site, allowing to download and install different version of Ricoh
    flash media controller drivers, I will share my conclusion about Lenovo product. They integrated 3rd party drivers ( Ricoh ) into ThinkPad without recognizing or checking that their latest version 3.54.02 are  good probably for MS, XD-picture and  for MMC cards but does not work with SD ( however the device controller is named SD/MMC  controller ).
    The site where you may download the proper executable application file is http://asusg1s.wikidot.com/forum/t-9849
    The file name is E1007029. I checked it, it does  not contain any viruses.
    This folder contains eleven files with a setup executable file. After setup completion you will find under IDE ATA/ATAPI Controllers new two devices named  Ricoh SD Host Controller and Ricoh Memory Stick Controller ( I left undeleted previous
    installed controllers as well - Ricoh SD/MMC Host Controller and Ricoh xD-picture Controller ).
    The "new" installed flash media contoller drivers are Ricoh R5C841/842 version 2.43.02 and are for Windows XP environment. So this case can be closed.

  • Elements 7 does not recognise RAW files from my new camera

    Have recently bought a new camera (Canon EOS 60d), which is an import.  Whilst I can process Jpegs in Elements the RAW files are not recognised.  Help

    PSE7 is three years old, and camera makers are constantly changing the formats of the RAW images they use.  There's no way for PSE7 to open those new RAW files, beause the latest version of Adobe Camera RAW is incompatible.
    You'll have to use the Adobe DNG converter to convert the RAW files and then open the DNG files in PSE:
    http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/detail.jsp?ftpID=5375
    Or you can purchase PSE10.

  • Lightroom 4.4 will not recognise ARW files from Sony RX10

    I have tried reinstalling LR - still doesn't work. It says all products uptodate as well. Any ideas?
    My Mac can read the files fine and displays them correctly in iPhoto

    The Sony RX10 is not yet supported in Lightroom.
    http://helpx.adobe.com/creative-suite/kb/camera-raw-plug-supported-cameras.html
    It will never be supported in Lightroom 4. Adobe never retrospectively adds support to superseded software.
    It'll probably be supported in the next version of Lightroom, say 5.4 due sometime in the next couple of months.

  • My windows 7 machine does not recognise .swf files. I have down loaded the flash player but I think.

    My windows 7 machine does not recognise .swf files. I have down loaded the flash player but I think but it is linked as a plug in with chrome and IE.  How can I get my windows to recognise the .swf files to play them.

    The downloaded file is the projector, not an installer; you need to make the file association manually:
    move the downloaded exe file to a location you can remember, e.g. C:\Windows\SysWOW64\Macromed\Flash
    right-click on a swf file and select Open with > Choose default program
    navigate to the folder you saved the player and select flashplayer_13_sa.exe

  • Elements does not recognise prel file

    I saved a project to DVD (photos with background music) Elements does not recognise "prel" file when trying to reload project. How do i open file in Premiere Elements 10

    Chris (Herbie53)
    There was no Premiere Elements 5 and 6. The version numbers went 1, 2, 3, 4, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12 (latest) So you probably use Premiere Elements 4 or maybe 7 on probably Windows 32 bit XP or Vista.
    Case 1. (Here we assume that you have the project.prel file (project) saved to a DVD disc as data disc.)
    Even if you had saved that older Premiere Elements project file (project.prel) along with copies of the media that went into it, it is still questionable whether that old project.prel could be opened in Premiere Elements 12. But, assuming that the media was still connected to it (which it probably is not), you could try by right clicking the project.prel file and selecting Open With Premiere Elements 12. Have you gone that route, and the project would not open or you were greeted by "Where is the file...?" messages.
    Case 2. (Here we assume that, when you were using the the older program, you took the project Timeline to DVD-VIDEO on DVD disc...this is not the project.prel file, but an export of it.)
    In this situation, if you put your DVD disc in the burner tray and explored it, you would see two folders, one named OpenDVD and another named VIDEO_TS. This is your best case scenario. If this is the case.....
    a. Put your DVD disc in the burner tray.
    b. Open Premiere Elements 12 Expert workspace. Go to File Menu/New/Project and Change Settings.
    In Change Settings, set the project preset for either NTSC DV Standard or NTSC DV Widescreen. For now, we will assume NTSC DV Standard. Then, before you exit that area, in the last dialog that you see (new project dialog), make sure you have a check mark next to "Force Selected Project Setting on This Project".
    c. Next, back in the Premiere Elements 12 Expert workspace, use Add Media/DVD Camera or Computer Drive/Video Importer where you will select video files from the VIDEO_TS Folder to bring into the Premiere Elements 12 project. You will have to redo the menu in 12. The video files that you want from the VIDEO_TS Folder typically start with VTS_01_1.VOB and continue in series which can be detailed later.
    Goal right now is to sort through the details so that we are in sync on what you have in order to enable us to be confident about the troubleshooting strategy.
    We will be watching for your comments and results.
    Thanks.

    Add On.....The classical recommendation has always been to complete a project in the program in which it was created. But let us see what can be done here.

  • My program does not read raw files from mark III

    My program does not read raw files from mark III

    emac77,
    Support for Canon 5D MIII RAW files was announced in ACR 7.1 (Adobe Camera Raw 7.1).
    The current stable release is ACR 7.2 while ACR 7.3 is still a Release Candidate (Beta).
    Starting ACR 7.2, Adobe stopped supplying a manual download link which was available till 7.1. Adobe Application Manager (AAM) is the only way for you to update to ACR 7.2.
    However, here is a direct download link that AAM connects to for the download that you can use to grab the .zip or .dmg (Mac) file. Download and install. See if you're able to open your files then.

  • I can not import 60p files from Sony NEX-FS100U to Final Cut Pro X.

    I can not import 60p files from my Sony NEX-FS100U to Final Cut Pro 10.0.1.  Does Sony offer a plug in?

    I shoot fishing footage of big catches.  Slow motion playback appears to me to be much better when shot it 60p even compared to 60i.  It also blows away all of the other formats for a "still" grab.  Thank you for your help as I did a search and downloaded Clip Wrap which converted the files to .mov and they actually do import the full 60 frames.  Thank you again for your reply.

  • Facebook does not recognise iMovie file type

    Hi all. I have successfully downloaded videos to Facebook this year, but have just upgraded to Lion from Snow Leopard and something appears to have changed.
    When I try to "Share" onto Facebook, the Facebook interface does not recognise the movie type. I also notice that instead of each project showing in the "Movie Events" file as a thumbnail of the opening frame, it sits as an iMovie Icon, albeit with the project name.
    I have successfully uploaded to Vimeo, so my question is: has something changed in iMovie after the upgrade to make the "project" indigestable to Facebook?

    GR-Blitz,
    You can see a few ways of doing it in this thread:

  • Transferring HD movie files from Sony HDR-SR7 to Macintosh computer

    I am contemplating buying a Sony High Definition Camcorder Model HDR-SR7. That model has a built in 60 GB hard drive on the camcorder. I would like to transfer the HD movie files to my PowerBook G4. I am told that a USB cable is available with a dock for the HDR-SR7 camcorder. My question is whether that USB transfer option is compatible with the MAC OS. Specifically will I be able to transfer the movie files from the camcorder to my PB G4 internal hard disk? I am not necessarily interested in editing the movie files---just want to transfer. If the USB option does not work are there any other options that will allow me to transfer the movie files ?

    Elliot: I know you say you don't want to edit, but this thread could be interesting for you:

  • Tomcat6 does not load class files from WEB-INF/lib/myjarfile.jar  WHY???

    I have placed my jar file in c:\tomcat6\webapps\my-application\WEB-INF\lib\myjarfile.jar
    But, after restarting tomcat6, when i try to import the class file contained in the myjarfile.jar in a servlet, it says
    ProcessFileUpload.java:4: package test.test1 does not exist
    import test.test1.*;
    ^It clearly tomcat's class loading problem.
    As i unzipped my jar and placed the packagefolder structure to
    c:\tomcat6\webapps\my-application\WEB-INF\classes\testand it works perfectly.
    Anyone knows its workaround? please suggest if any configuration changes is required in tomcat or so.
    Thanks.

    Thank you gimbal2 . There was error in creating the jar file myjarfile.jar.
    But, now I have created it again and placed it in place
    c:\tomcat6\webapps\my-application\WEB-INF\lib\myjarfile.jarand tried to use one on the Class file included within the jar to compile my servlet. But, still I am getting error at servlet compilation time. I want to place executable jar files in
    c:\tomcat6\webapps\my-application\WEB-INF\lib\myjarfile.jar and compile my servlet and execute the servlet.
    I DO NOT WANT TO unzip the jar, placing all unzipped files to
    c:\tomcat6\webapps\my-application\WEB-INF\classes\ folder and comiple my servlet and execute the servlet. But, I am failing to user WEB-INF\lib\ folder facility....please help me why i am not getting class files from WEB-INF\lib\ folder.
    If you please see the small code bit and tell me any possible error that would be very helpful.
    Step 1: my library java file MyClass.java
    package test.test1;
    public class MyClass {
         String myName = "Default return string value";
         public void setMyName(String varName) {

    c:\tomcat6\webapps\my-application\WEB-INF\lib\Step5 : Restarted standalone Tomcat6 in my Windows XP SP2.
    Step6 : Created a simple servlet LibFolderTest.java within my-application\WEB-INF\classes\ folder with code
    import java.io.*;

              PrintWriter out = response.getWriter();
              MyClass mc = new MyClass();
              out.println(mc.getMyName());
    }Step7 : Tried to compile my servlet LibFolderTest.java and got the following error
    LibFolderTest.java:4: package test.test1 does not exist
    import test.test1.*;

    3 errorsThe above servlet compilation error on Step7 is telling me that myjarfile.jar is not loaded by Tomcat6 or not available for use when compiling servlet. I want to use myjarfile.jar from within WEB-INF\lib\ folder but I can not. please help.
