AP541 Access Point Best config for multiple VAPS Advice

Hi
I have several AP541 (on different site locations) which I have currently configured for WPA enterprise using windows 2008 as the Radius server. This works fine for staff members who use the wireless when roaming around the offices.
I would also like to setup another VAP for guests to allow them to access our internet but nothing else on the network. I was wondering what approach would be the best one to adopt to achieve this. Would I be best to setup a WPA Personal VAP and allow guests to access the wireless this way. Or is there a better approach? If we did adopt this approach I presume this would mean that we have to log onto each AP in turn and then change the WPA key on each one everytime we decide to change the key? Or is there some clever software I could use to change them all in one go.
Any help would be appreciated
Thanks
Colin

Hello Simon,
I would keep them all in Access Point mode if you are planning on having them all hardwired into your network. That is the best setup.
As for Wireless WDS repeater or Wireless Client/Repeater, you would use these features if you are trying to extend your wireless signal at a certain location in your building but you are not able to run a ethernet cable to that location. So all you would do is power up the WAP4410n and it will help increase the wireless signal in that location if set in repeater mode. The draw back to this is it will cut your througput by half.
Wireless WDS bridge, you would use this feature if you are wanting to extend your network to a location were you are not able to run a ethernet cable to. Once you set up the bridge you would place it in the location were you are wanting to extend your hardwire network. If you plug a PC into the ethernet port on the Bridged WAP then you should be able to pull a IP address from the main network. When set in this mode it will not broadcast a wireless signal.. so you will not be able to connect wirelessly to the device once it is in Wireless Bridge mode.
Wireless Monitor.. not sure about this feature.. never used it.
This keep in mind that these devices will usually only bridge or use repeater with themselves and not other devices.
If you are wanting to start adding VLANs in the future you will need to stick to Access point mode since that mode will allow you to set up more than one VLAN the WAP can look out for. If you use repeater or bridge mode feature you will only be able to use 1 vlan.
I hope that helps you out!

  • Best Practice for Multiple iTunes and One Account?

My wife and I share our account for our iPhone Applications and Songs in iTunes.
Can someone point me to a topic that covers a best practice for multiple iTunes syncing?
I travel a lot and keep my iPhone synced to my Macbook Pro while she uses the workstation at home to sync to. We keep the addresses and contacts and calendars synced through MobileMe, however, I'm trying to find the best way of pushing applications and songs I've bought over to the other PC so they're still around while I'm traveling for her to sync with.
    Thoughts?

    Hi Steve,
Might be trying for solution for a long time, If i understood your question clear let me clarify you few points.
You are trying to access the bex query which is designed with the exit's in the background based on the logic and trying to call the entire dimensions and key-figures in a single connection. Then you are trying to map those data in the charts.
Steve, try to make more connections based upon the logic and split them. use the same query but split them by sales per customer group, sales per day, sales per week by making three different connections and try. You can merge the prompts from all connections.
    Hope this Helps!!!
Sorry if i misunderstood your question.

  • Best practices for multiple developers?

I am currently working on a fairly large application. At this
time, I have been the only developer on it, so it hasn't been a
problem in keeping all of my files up to date or anything. However,
I know in the future some new blood will be brought in to assist
me. To this end, I'm looking for suggestions on the best ways to
set up the project for multiple developers, especially in terms of
    using VSS.
So far, I have the main HTML, JS, and FLA/SWF files located
on a web server - easy enough to create a project in Flash and
synch up with VSS. But what about the supporting .as files? The
help files seem pretty straight-forward on this kind of thing, but
I am curious about other people's experiences.
    Any suggestions for me? Thanks!

    HI,
You can install it on one common desktop, for example you can use citrix program neighborhood. you can install a common desktop in citrix program neighborhood and every time you need to apply some patches you can apply over there. so that you dont need to install it on each and every users desktop. so who ever needs business objects client tools they will be accessing through citrix program neighborhood.
    I hope its clear.
    Thanks,

  • The Best Tool For Multiple Animated Objects

    Hi,
I am expirimenting with Flash Web Sites, and I would like suggestions as to a starting point for my project, and I am assuming a Flash website is where I would start.
Basically, If I were to open up a web page, I would like to see multiple animated objects.  For example, if I were to simulate an Emergency Room, I would have an EKG displaying a heart rate, then perhaps see a breathing maching apparatus moving up and down, a Drip bag (sorry, don't know the real term), dripping into a patient's tube.  And of course, if I were to roll over an object it would animate, and if clicked on more animation or on to another page.
I tried creating the animated objects in Fireworks, and I thought I could combine various Firworks files into one, but it didn't work (too many frames), either becasue I lack the knowlege of how to do this or simply it cannot be done that way in Fireworks.  I had a background with one animated flashing object (that was easy), but combining multiple independent objects, I could not figure it out.
Someone suggested that I would have to use Action Scripts, which made me realize, I don't know the best way to accomplish my example above, and although I know I may be over my head, I would just like to get direction as to where I should begin.
Should it all be in Flash in the first place?  To continue on with the example above, after a user clicks on the rollover image, a girney comes rolling in and we are giving choices on a monitor with what our next actions should be, which would take us into another page.  (this is just to give you perpective of what I am trying to accomplish).
Should I create independent animated objects (files) in Fireworks, then somehow import them into their specified location in Flash.
I hope this makes sense and I am hoping someone is kind enough to provide a starting point.
    Best.

Flash is the best tool for what you want and most of it can be done once you get a handle on the basics.
For you interactivity (rollOvers / triggering more animations with mouse) you will need some actionscript but don't get hung up on that now.
There is a world of info out there. Google "animation basics in flash) you may have to weed through some garbage but you will find what you are looking for somewhere.

  • Which access point is better for hospital environments?

    Folks,
I have a customer in hospital, who requires to have wireless deployed everywhere. The fact is , customer is budget concious, so I designed in such a way to place it in corridors , so that wireless coverage could get inside the rooms, but the doors are fire-proof which blocks RF .
What are the best practices in deploying AP's in hospital, for eg: is it safe to install AP's next to Medical Imaging Room or other devices which may cause interference
Which model is suitable for this sort of installation?
    Thanks,
    SID

    Hi SID,
Please consider in your budget for a Wireless LAN Site Survey. WLAN Site Survey will allow you to better understand WHERE to deploy your AP's and HOW MANY AP's to deploy. When deploying an AP, also bear in mind for AP failures. You can address this issues with either keeping "spare" stocks or putting additional AP's per floor so when an AP would fail, the WLC will calculate and increase the transmission power to cover the loss of an AP.
In regards to what models to buy, I'd recommend looking at the 1140 or the 1250. These AP's are geared up for Draft N (2.0 Ratified).
For AP's that are geared up for 802.11N (Draft 2.0):

    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/prod/collateral/wireless/ps5678/ps6973/ps8382/product_data_sheet0900aecd806b7c5c.html
If you are going to choose the 1250, note that the Antennaes are optional. Here's some information regarding them.

    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/prod/collateral/wireless/ps7183/ps469/at_a_glance_c45-513837.pdf
The AP1250, when operating with 2 radio modules on Autonomous IOS, requires a minimum of 18.5 watts (ePoE). So you'll need either a Power Injector or PoE switch that will support enhanced PoE such as the 3560-E or 3750-E.

  • Best Practices for multiple authors using single project?

We are having many issues, particularly with moving, renaming, and multiple check out warnings.  We have a single project with many authors and it seems like RH is not designed to work that way. There is an article in the RH devnet-archive in an article entitled "Sharing RoboHelp Project Among Multiple Authors" that says"
"At first there may be the temptation to let every author work on every file in a project.  This is certainly not a best practice. Regardless of source contraol, it is always best to designate certain authors as owning certain content-related sections, folders, or topics within a project -particulary at the folder level."
This statement, and our experience seems to indicate that RH is not a true CMS as we had envisioned.  What are the best practices for this scenario to avoid stepping on each others toes and having problems with source control.

I have moved this to the source control forum for the gurus there to answer.
Meantime I must admit I read that statement the same way as you first time. However, on rereading I think what the author is saying is not that what you want cannot be done, rather it is best practice to guide authors to work in discrete areas.
I will leave it to the author or another guru to give you a more complete answer.

Your suggestions would be helpful for my configutations
    Thanks in advance.

You cant generalize performance configuration. If it can be oracle would have don it. Fine tuning of parameter values is a on going process. Its not like you set it one and its done. You need to monitor it constantly and tune it on need basis.
Said that, the first thing that caught me is the setting of SGA_TARGET and PGA_AGGREGATE_TARGET. Both are set to 0 meaning Automated memory management is turned off.
    Run the following two query
    select name
         , value
      from v$parameter
    where upper(name) = 'PGA_AGGREGATE_TARGET'
        or upper(name) = 'WORKAREA_SIZE_POLICY'
        or upper(name) like '%\_AREA\_SIZE' escape '\';
    select name
         , value
      from v$parameter
    where upper(name) in (
                              'SGA_TARGET'
                            , 'DB_CACHE_SIZE'
                            , 'SHARED_POOL_SIZE'
                            , 'LARGE_POOL_SIZE'
                            , 'JAVA_POOL_SIZE'
                            , 'STREAMS_POOL_SIZE'
This will indicate the memory related parameters that are manually set in your environment.

  • Best Configuration for Multiple Video Captures

    Hello,
What would be faster and the most efficient for multiple video captures:
    - 9 video feeds written to 3 separate internal hard drives (3 feeds per hard drive)
    - 9 video feeds written to 3 internal hard drives in a combined RAID configuration
    - 9 video feeds written to 9 separate external hard drives via eSATA
I have a Mac Pro 3.06GHz 12-core Intel Xeon machine that will be dedicated to a security camera application (SecuritySpy). The Mac OS and SecuritySpy will be on one hard drive and send the captured video from nine network HD cameras to the other hard drives. The computer, eSATA card, and all the hard drives are 6Gb/s capable. I also have access to SoftRAID for the RAID configuration, as well as an 8-bay eSATA hard drive enclosure if I choose. There are pros and cons for each of the configurations, but I am looking for the most reliable setup in terms of efficiency and longevity.

    Dr. Z.

Just wanted to post the details of my final set up, maybe this will be useful to others looking to do a similar setup:
    1. Connected and set up the external hard drive (I bought a Western Digital My Book Pro Edition II 1TB) via Firewire 800 on iMac #1.
    2. Set up iMac #1 to backup via Time Machine. Even though the other computers will see the drive, apparently they will not recognize it in Time Machine unless you set it up on the computer the drive is connected to first (I tried).
    3. On iMac #2, connect to iMac #1 via file sharing, this is even easier now that you can access any computer on your network under "SHARED" in the sidebar of any finder window.
    4. Double-click the external drive. If you don't see the drive, click "Connect as" in the top right of the window and login. It's not necessary to do this, but if you want to confirm you've connected to the network drive, you can go to Finder -> Preferences -> General and under "Show these items on the Desktop" check the box next to "Connected Servers". This will make an icon for the external drive appear on your desktop.
    5. Turn on Time Machine on iMac #2. Repeat for any other computers you want to back up.
That's it. So far this has worked great for me. Obviously the backups run a little slower on the computers running through file share, but its a small trade-off compared to either manually moving the drive around or getting three separate drives.

  • E71 Access Point Choice Mail for Exchange

I am used to using the iPhone where whenever you go somewhere, the phone detects available networks and you choose the one you want to connect to. I don't understand why in Mail for Exchange you must define an access point. Is there a way to have the access point selected whenever you enter a new area? And when there is no wireless network available, should it automatically use the GPRS network?
    Thank you.

I would have to agree with you on that, it's my one and only complaint about the current S60 software.. Just about all other plaforms offer this function and Nokia used to with connection groups.

They have assured me that the SNMP info is correct as they have checked it several times but the BBSM still doesn't recognise the 1242's. I know that the document link above specifies that 1200's are supported but don't Cisco class the old 1200's, 1230's and 1242's as different? Also, the BBSM didn't recognise some of their 2960-24 switches as valid network elements either but they selected the object type themselves from the list.
    Thanks in advance.

  • Access Point Switchport configuration for OOB NAC

    Hello.
Here we have to implement Out of Band with WLC and NAC, I have already checked this guide:
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/ps6128/products_configuration_example09186a0080a138cc.shtml
But I have a little doubt. On the document showed above does not specific which vlan should be configured on switch's access port facing access points. Should I configure this with trusted or untrusted VLAN? I know all traffic from wireless clients go to WLC through a CAPWAP tunnel, but I am not really sure on the Out of Band deployment which access vlan should be for access points.
    Greettings.

Just to add again to another one of Steve's post:)  You don't want to put the AP traffic through NAC, but only the traffic for the wireless clients which egress out of the WLC.  So if your wireless clients are being placed in VLAN30 (just an example), you can have an untrusted layer 2 vlan VLAN29 which hit the NAC untrusted and if remediation id good, then placed in VLAN30.  Makes sense?
    Thanks,
