Apache cores after patching Solaris 10

Hi Folks,
after patching Solaris 10 with the recommended Patch Cluster i'm not able to start Apache with apachectl sslstart.
Apache cores! Changing <VirtualHost default:443> to <IP-Addr.:443> in ssl.conf solves the problem.
Any idea why?
Ciao

  • "Short read error" after patching solaris 10 x86?

We recently bought an Ultra 20 with Solaris 10. The first thing we did was attempt to patch it with smpatch. Specifically, we did the following steps:
    > smpatch update
    > shutdown -i s -g 0
    > smpatch add -x idlist=/var/sadm/disallowed_patch_list
    > reboot
When the machine rebooted we got a "short read error" message when trying to load in various drivers and wouldn't boot. We assumed that the disk had crashed and we reinstalled solaris from the DVDs. After the reinstallation, we went to patch the machine again, with the same steps, and exactly the same thing happened!
So is there something wrong with patching solaris 10 on x86? Has anybody else experienced this problem where the patching corrupts the disks (or the drivers)?
    Thanks.
    Karl

There have always been "short read error"s during boot on <b>some</b> systems with Solaris 10 x86 since the release.

    http://groups.yahoo.com/group/solarisx86/message/29358
Do you get the error every time during boot? Sometimes it helps to
press <RETURN> at the boot prompt, and not let the system wait for
    the five second timeout.

  • Panic loop after patching solaris 10 x86

I have installed a number of patches on to my server and think I have messed things up somehow, wrong order, not in single user mode, missing dependencies, not rebooting, etc...
After installing I rebooted and now am stuck in a panic loop. I have gathered as much information as possible below.
The server is a Sunfire V20z running Solaris 10.
If anyone can interpret the below information and point me in the right direction that would be much appreciated.
    Thanks.

I am seeing something similar to this, but I can bring it up and it crashed after a random amount of time. Any ideas what patches could have caused this?

  • Strange problems after installing Solaris 10 u6 on 64-bit PC

    Hi all,
I have run into some very strange issues after installing Solaris 10 update 6 on my 64-bit PC (it's almost new). The problems are with graphical applications and desktop environments based on GTK (so it seems, at least).
I have installed Solaris normally, following most of the default options and choosing the "Entire Group" software packages installation. However, after the first login I've seen that:
    1. No user creation process was offered to me and I had to login as root (I find it pretty strange)
    2. After logging in as root into JDK system, my screen went blank for a couple of seconds and then the system threw me back to the login screen.
    3. Logging into the old CDE environment was possible, but launching Firefox from there (using a command line terminal) wasn't. It gave me the following error message:
ld.so.1: firefox-bin: fatal: libmlib.so.2: open failed: no such file or directory
ld.so.1: firefox-bin: fatal: relocation error: file /usr/bin/firefox/firefox-bin: symbol gtk_init: referenced symbol not found.
It's very strange because GTK toolkit and JDK environment are supposed to be the core functionalities provided by Solaris. Does anyone have an idea what's going on?
    My system sum-up:
    CPU: Intel Core 2 Quand Q6600 @ 2.4 GHz
RAM: 2 Gb of DDR2 SDRAM
Motherboard: MSI MS-7529 (Intel G31 chipset)
    Monitor: AOC LM725
Graphics card: NVIDIA GeForce 9400 GT
Hard disk: 2 Western Digital HDs (SATA) 320 Gb each,
1 Western Digital external USB HD MyBook Essential 2, 500 Gb
DVD drives: 2 LG DVD drives (SATA)
Network card: Realtek RTL8168C(P)/8111C(P) PCI-E Gigabit Ethernet NIC
I use my system in the following way:
On the first hard disk, I have a one-partition 32-bit Windows XP SP3 installation (ported from my old computer).
On the second hard disk, I have a functioning Fedora Core 9 installed on the first half of the disk's space (the installation is self-organized into several Linux partitions, e. g. /boot, /swap etc; I am a newbie so I don't know too much about Linux partitioning - only specified to Fedora how much space it could use for its volume group). I installed Solaris onto the second half of the second disk.
It has be noted that my USB external drive seemed to conflict with the network or graphics cards during the Fedora installation and caused it to hang sporadically, so I installed Fedora with this disk detached. I also detached it when I was installing Solaris, though it seems to have not influenced the problems I experienced. I also have attempted installing Solaris before I did so with Fedora, but had the same issues.

Well, it seems that the cause of the problem was that my DVD image was just corrupted - I didn't check it vs MD5 codes supplied by Sun assuming it went automatically OK. I downloaded the image again (this time it was OK), reinstalled the system and successfully logged into JDS. However, I am still puzzled why Solaris doesn't offer to create a default non-root user during the installation process.

  • Smc fails after patching

    Good evening
Running a freshly installed 11/06 build of solaris 10 x86, I don't have any issues with smc. Immediately after patching, installing all recommended patches, smc so longer starts up.

I'm guessing that something got horked up during patching, however, I'm not really sure which one(s) might have done so. Anyone have any ideas?
    -Matt

I'm more familiar with the similarly-named Sun Management Center, but I think this may be a Java compatibility issue: possibly the patched version requires a later version of java. It would help to know which version's in your environment (java -version).

  • AS Java applications not starting after patching from 2004s SPS10 to SPS11

    Hi folks,
after patching our NetWeaver 2004s from SPS10 to SPS11 and the Kernel from 7.00.83.0 to 7.00.95.0, the applications on the AS Java do not start up automatically any more.

We have also noticed the following deviations in JSPM:

    EP_BUILDT is Release 7.00 SP Level 10.0
    SAP_BUILDT is Release 7.00 SP Level 0.0
All other components except for the Kernel are Release 7.00 SP Level 11.0 or 11.2
What could be wrong, and what can we do to solve it?
    Best regards,
    Robert Schulte

Thanks for your response, usha rani
    1. We already tried that, unfortunately, it does not help
    2. We checked the kernel version thoroughly after you suggested it, everything seems to be fine. We had a Unicode kernel before, and we still have one.
    3. safemode is already set to NO
    4. J2EE's default.trace is full of exceptions, but none of them is pointing me into a helpful direction.
Perhaps the exceptions mean more to someone else:

  • Packet length mismatch 14336,56 on x2100 after patch 118855-19

I'm new to solaris, and I don't currently have a solaris support contract.
After installing solaris 10 6/06 onto my shiny new x2100 (base model) and installing the latest available patches (as of this posting), I started seeing the following message repeated every few seconds in the system log:
    ip: [ID 498608 kern.notice] Packet length mismatch: 14336, 56
Backing out 118855-19 causes the message to stop appearing.
Other than this message, I don't believe I have encountered any actual problems (yet).
Any suggestions on whether I should:
    - continue to ignore this message;
    - back out the patch;
    - post this in another forum;
    - try to investigate?
    Update:
The following messages have also appeared in the system log during shutdown:
    ip: [ID 646971 kern.notice] ip_create_dl: hw addr length = 0
    ip: [ID 200596 kern.error] bge0: <unknown primitive> failed: DL_UNSUPPORTED

    Hi!
I have this patch installed, but I haven't this problem (I use IPv4).
    $ uname -srvmpi
    SunOS 5.10 Generic_118855-19 i86pc i386 i86pc
    1) Check that all recommended patches was applied.
    2) It seems to me, that one of your application uses raw socket interface
    (IP_HDRINCL, see /usr/include/netinet/in.h, ip(7p), ip6(7p), icmp6(7p)), and
length field (ip_len, see /usr/include/netinet/ip.h) in raw packet from
application supplied in wrong byte sequence (application was design for big
    endian computer).
Usually kernel drops that kind of packets silently. May be new ip driver
(/kernel/drv/ip.conf), which includes in this patch starts to work in verbose
    mode...
Try to find this application by stopping applications one by one.

  • Patch Solaris 8 systems

    Hi
Is there anyone that has successfully been able to patch Solaris 8 systems using this tool? If you have a guide I would be happy. I have tried a couple of times but failed even though I have installed required patches.
    Regards Jerry

Does anything show up in the agent logs directory? You may have missing packages, such as SUNWbash, SUNWswmt, and SUNWgzip which are often missing on Solaris 8 systems.
If you are unable to find anything in the logs then I would advise opening a support case. Note that it is likely that we will ask you to collect information from the system using the [GDD script|http://www.sun.com/bigadmin/scripts/sunScripts/SUN-GDD_sun-connection-collect_noarch.tar.gz] . It would be worthwhile if you could collect the information whilst attempting to run a job against the system.
Run the script on the agent:
    # ./SUN-GDD_SunConnection.sh -debugAgent -auto 1800 -o /var/tmpThis will enable debug-level logging on the agent and automatically collect the logs after 30 minutes - you may wish to adjust the time to suit.

  • Patching solaris LDAP client

i will have to patch a solaris LDAP client box. What do I expect for that? Do I have to rel-initialize the client using ldapclient command after patching?
solaris 8 + LDAP server 5.2 unbundled version.
    Thanks

From previous experience if your slapd is not running on your LDAP server then your clients will not boot if they are setup for ldap domain authentication. This is the same in NIS and NIS+. The only way to bring them up is to boot -s and change the nsswitch.conf file back to standalone i.e files and reboot machine.
In short if ldap server goes down clients are too, multi ldap servers are required to prevent single point failure.

  • Error after patch EP6.0 SP3- EP6.0 SP4(patch4)- WAS6.40SP6

    We have WAS 6.40 SP 6.0 and EP 6.0 SP3 on HP-Unix 11i 64-bit.
I have tried to patch the portal twice to SP4 and after patching I got
    twice the same problem.
The patch application - the exact patch is EP 6.0 SP4 Patch4 is
successful. There are no errors in the installation logs, etc.
But when I try to login to the portal url I get this error message:
    Portal Runtime Error
An exception occurred while processing a request for :
    iView : N/A
    Component Name : N/A
Could not find portal application com.sap.portal.ivs.api_iview.
    Exception id: 02:21_05/08/04_0001_1516650
See the details for the exception ID in the log file
The error part of the portal log file is attached. The WAS is running
perfectly, no other errors or issues. The heap memory is set as per the
OSS 723909. I wonder if I have to add the 32-bit compatible UNIX shared
memory parameter settings as per OSS 497427, but I do not think it is
    related the issue.
    Please, advise.

We needed exactly the SP Stack 3 specification - WAS 6.40 SP6 and EP 6.0 SP4, so I could not go to higher SP on both WAS and EP.
I resolved the issue by applying all EP6.0 SP4 patches sequentially. SAP claims that these patches are cumulative and you can directly install the latest available patch, but it did not work in our case.
I was suspicious at the beginning, because the files size of the first patch is much bigger that patch 4, but the installation did not complained:

    Hi Abapers/Basis
After patch update i am not able to do FBCJ reversal entry getting below error message.

The function module "GM_DOCUMENT_REVERSE" is called,
but cannot be found in the library.
Error in the ABAP Application Program
The current ABAP program "SAPLRWCL" had to be terminated because it has
come across a statement that unfortunately cannot be executed.
    What can you do?
Note down which actions and inputs caused the error.
To process the problem further, contact you SAP system
         administrator.
Using Transaction ST22 for ABAP Dump Analysis, you can look
at and manage termination messages, and you can also
    Error analysis
An exception occurred that is explained in detail below.
The exception, which is assigned to class 'CX_SY_DYN_CALL_ILLEGAL_FUNC', was
         not caught in
procedure "CALL_DISPATCHER_STORNO_R" "(FORM)", nor was it propagated by a
         RAISING clause.
Since the caller of the procedure could not have anticipated that the
exception would occur, the current program is terminated.
The reason for the exception is:
The program "SAPLRWCL" contains the CALL FUNCTION statement.
The name of the function module to be called is "GM_DOCUMENT_REVERSE".
No function module exists with the name "GM_DOCUMENT_REVERSE".
All function modules are listed in the Function Library (SE37).
        Possible reasons:
        a) Wrong name specified. Pay particular attention to
           upper/lower case and underscores ("_").
           or
        b) Transport error
        c) In the case of an enqueue/dequeue module,
the lock object may not have been activated
           (ABAP/4 Dictionary).
    How to correct the error
Check the last transports to the SAP System.
Is the program "SAPLRWCL" currently being changed?
If an enqueue/dequeue module is involved, is the activation
of the lock object missing in the ABAP/4 Dictionary?
If the error occures in a non-modified SAP program, you may be able to
find an interim solution in an SAP Note.
If you have access to SAP Notes, carry out a search with the following
        keywords:
        "CALL_FUNCTION_NOT_FOUND" "CX_SY_DYN_CALL_ILLEGAL_FUNC"
        "SAPLRWCL" or "LRWCLF10"
        "CALL_DISPATCHER_STORNO_R"
Function modules with names similar to "GM_DOCUMENT_REVERSE":

    Hi Karthik,
    Thank you for ur reply.
I did not implement any user exit/ badi. Dump is saying that my smarform function module does not exist in the se37 library.
I have excuted my form through se38, that time is working fine. When i tried through output type it is going to dump.

  • Authorization problems after patch 6 upgrade and re-install

    Hello everybody.
I had a perfect working Visual Composer installation.
After patching it, I got an 401 message, stating that I do not have authorization to view this page:
HTTP Error 401.1 - Unauthorized: Access is denied due to invalid credentials.
Uninstalling and reinstalling didn't bring me much further. It seems to be an Internet Explorer and/or IIS 6.0 related problem.
Of course I followed the very valuable note 804996, but the problem remains...
    Can anyone help me out?
    Thanx.

    Hi all.
    I resolved my own problem.
Additional to the permission settings as they are explained in note 804996, you must add the Directory Security - Authentication & Access Control, set to Integrated Windows Authentication.
Otherwise Windows NTFS security will block you.
    Gr.,
    Marc.
