Apache page serving slowdown after 10.4.6 update

Not sure which section I should have put this under so thought I'd start here.
My version of apache as installed with Tiger (which I use as a production server) was working fine with both php and MySQL. After the update, my local site when accessed through Safari via Bonjour is now as slow as a crippled snail! Pages are eventually served several minutes after the request is made. This is a nightmare!
I really would love to know why this is happening? If anybody can shed any light on what might be causing this I will be very grateful. If I need to post more info please let me know.
This is what the log says when I stop and then restart Apache:
[Fri May 5 01:32:04 2006] [notice] caught SIGTERM, shutting down
Processing config directory: /private/etc/httpd/users/*.conf
[Fri May 5 01:32:07 2006] [warn] module mod_php4.c is already added, skipping
[Fri May 5 01:32:07 2006] [notice] Apache/1.3.33 (Darwin) PHP/4.3.6 configured -- resuming normal operations
[Fri May 5 01:32:07 2006] [notice] Accept mutex: flock (Default: flock)
When I check the httpd.conf file I can see why I get the module mod_php4 warning. However, I don't think this is causing the slowdown as I haven't changed the conf file in ages and the server has been running just fine up until the update.
Thanks.

  • Apache won't work after 10.5.2 update

    Apache won't work, after I installed the 10.5.2 update.
    When I type the following in the terminal: sudo apachectl -t
    I get a error:
    /usr/sbin/apachectl: line 81: 711 Segmentation fault $HTTPD $ARGV
    Does anyone know how I can solve this?
    thank you!

    I too had the same problem after the auto update 10.5.2 - specifically the 2008-002 update broke my machine in a number of areas.
    I downloaded the package and ran it, this seems to have mopped up the problems caused my the first run.
    The update is located at:
    http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/apple/security_updates/
    Look for 2008-002 (Leopard) it's about 50MB.
    Hope this works for you too.

  • Safari slowdown after the latest security update

    I am using Mac OS X 10.4.5 (8H14)on an iMac G5, and after the latets security update i have noticed that Safari has slowed down quite a lot as follows:
    I launch Safari, and the "home" page's URL, which I have set to "apple.com," takes forever to show on the screen. There is a delay of several seconds (at least 10-15 seconds), before Safari opens the page. This happens with all bookmarks I have in Safari. However, I launch FireFox, and it works as fast as ever.
    I have reset Safari, cleared the cache, deleted the icons, etc., but nothing works. I read about a Safari speed fix at another post, but i don't use Airport, just a wired DSL and router, no TCP/IP.

    This is weird, but Safari is working fast again. All I did was to quit Safari and use FireFox to post my problems with safari. After using the bookmarks I have in FireFox (the same ones I have in Safari) to check if the problem was also the same with FireFox, then I quit FireFox and launched Safari, and Safari is now working normal.

  • Server slowdown after spam attack...

    One of our users set their password to "1234" on Sunday.  We were dumped on with 3.6 million messages before we discovered it and shut the account down on Tuesday.  We have cleared the postfix queue of all the offending messages, but the server is still having an issue.
    When you reboot the machine, everything seems okay for about a couple of minutes, then it starts slowing down to the point where you can't even login to a terminal session.  Email services work during this time, but connections start timing out in a few minutes and your back to a largely unresponsive machine.  The activity viewer doesn't show any one high CPU process.
    I'm wondering if there might be some corruption in the cyrus stuff.  Running on a Dual 1.8Ghz G5, 4Gig RAM, pair of 400Gig HD drives.
    Not sure where to go from here.  Suggestions?

    Well, here is the solution, as unbelievable as it sounds.
    I narrowed the problem down to when the SA was set to receive incoming mail.  If I left the mail server up and running, and unchecked the "allow incoming mail", the server was stable.  Only when incoming mail was turned on would things get goofy.
    That pretty much narrows it down to the smtpd process in postfix.
    I copied the smtpd executable from another working server (same version) and replaced it on the problem server.  Problem solved.  The smtpd must have gotten corrupted during the spam attack.  It was located:
    /usr/libexec/postfix
    Server has been running smoothly for 12 hours now after 4 days of up and down every 3 minutes.

  • Web Server died after 10.6.2 update

    I had my server completely setup and it suddenly stopped accepting web connections. It acts like the web page is not online however when I check the service its running. This happened before and I ended up reinstalling the server. I don't have the time to reinstall and need a fix. I have stopped the service and restarted the server with no luck. When I start it in Server Admin all the log info disappers however when I stop the service all the logs reappear. Any Ideas???

    do you mean web services fail after the 10.6.2 update or is this after an upgrade from 10.5.x to 10.6.2?
    can you verify your web data is all present?
    what do the logs say?
    also, do you have a backup of the boot drive? you may have to restore the config files, but i'm guessing it won't require a full reinstall. that's rarely necessary.

    This has been happening since I updated snow leopard to 10.6.2
    In my case, it is a large file written in Hoefler Text that causes the crash immediately. I can open all my other files.
    Strangely, I can open the file that causes the crash if I log into my guest account.
    And I can open the file in my own account if I change the Font from Hoefler Text to Times New Roman.
    I can also open small Files written with Hoefler Text.

  • Delay in loading web pages using wireless after 10.5.6 update.

    I've read the posts for the 10.5.5 updates, but I have been recently experiencing this problem after updating to 10.5.6.
    It is seemingly a DNS problem because of the delay in "Looking up" and "Waiting for" in Firefox, but I do not have DNSchanger trojan. I have done everything from entering the known DNS statically, dynamically, OpenDNS on either or both the router and laptop.
    I experience no problems at all when connecting to the router directly w/ an ethernet cable. And my download speeds, whether P2P or a large file through webserver is similar to what I experienced before the 10.5.6 update.
    I understand that it could be my ISP, but I was surfing fine less than a week ago. Is it merely a coincidence that I updated to 10.5.6? Any further suggestions?

    Thanx! The numbers didn't help me anything, but your post reminded me: I found the DNS numbers that my ISP had provided that I had put in the Ethernet TCP/IP section in Network Preferences, and just copied and pasted them into my airport TCP/IP section. Worked great!

  • No Push with Exchange Server Mail after 2.2.1 update.

    After updating to 2.2.1 my e-mail account at work isn't being pushed to my Droid X. I have deleted and re-set up the account which has not fixed the problem. I can still get my mail, I just have to go to the account and update it manually. Anyone else having this issue? Anyone have a solution?

    For some reason, I cannot get the GPS to locate mw with the flashing blue dot since I updated to 2.0.1. It triangulates me to within a city vicinity! Before, it would locate me with the flashing blue dot. Yes, I am indoors in the same place that it used to work before. I have tried with wifi, edge, and 3g. Still no go.
    GPS signal has nothing to do with wi-fi, edge or 3g -- but comes from satellites.
    Updating likely deleted all the ephemerides of the satellites -- meaning it's like a new restart and has no idea where you are indoors. Try it outdoors, and give it some time, before giving up on it.

  • Slowdown after the Latest Tiger update

    I posted this in response to many having issues with computer slow down after the latest tiger patch. I thought i'd post it on it own.. Hopefully it will help.
    I don't know if anyone has stated this already, but the most recent update ends up loading and turning on just about every font in your computer.
    You need to go into Font Book and turn off the ones you don't need.
    We have 5 computer in our office and this was the issue with every one of them. After turning off all the extra fonts and restarting, everything was back up to speed and working.
    Additionally, MS Word and Excel would choke when launched.. i guess they don't have the resources to handle large numbers of fonts. After we turned all the extras off they now work as normal... (There's a joke there somewhere but i'll leave it alone for now)
    I hope this helps a lot of you.

    I second this. Made a massive difference when I deactivated the Chinese, Japanese, Korean etc fonts as I never use them.
    Thanks for the tip Marshall.

  • SetAttribute in JSP page and Apache tomcat server

    Hello all gurus: I have created a JSP using JDeveloper. It works fine within the web server installed with JDeveloper, but when I upload the application to apache tomocat server, it does not seem to work correctly.
    I am using setAttribute property of the session object, to save data. Listed below is a section of the code. Not sure if it is a cookie issue or what.
    <%
    int i_count = 0;
    if(session.getAttribute("create_user_first_time") == "") {
    session.setAttribute("create_user_first_time","FIRSTTIME");
    else {
    System.out.println("SECOND TIME DUDE.");
    System.out.println(request.getParameter("username").toString().trim());
    i_count = createuser (
    request.getParameter("username").toString().trim(),
    request.getParameter("password").toString().trim(),
    request.getParameter("Email").toString().trim(),
    request.getParameter("DOB").toString().trim(),
    request.getParameter("securityQ").toString().trim(),
    request.getParameter("securityA").toString().trim(),
    request.getParameter("Phone").toString().trim()
    System.out.println("after create user");
    System.out.println("i_count="+i_count);
    if (i_count == 3) {
    session.setAttribute("err_msg_create_user", "USER ALREADY EXISTS!");
    System.out.println("err_msg_create_user: USER ALREADY EXISTS!");
    else {
    session.setAttribute("err_msg_create_user", "Congratulations " + request.getParameter("username").toString().trim() + "!!Please proceed to login at the following URL: <a href=Login.jsp target='_blank'> Login </a>");
    System.out.println("CONGRATULATIONS!");
    %>

    I noticed the problem.The "Hello.jsp" file was still in "Notepad" format.Huh? What is it, the "Notepad" format?
    Do you mean that it is saved as hello.jsp.txt? Just rename the file then.
    It might be helpful to disable the setting "hide extensions for known file types" in the Windows Explorer options.

  • Apache not serving XSQL pages properly.

    java 1.2
    apache 1.3.12
    tomcat 3.2.1 (w/ mod_jk)
    Solaris 7
    XSQL 1.0.4.3
    The XSQL Servlet appears to be working fine through TOMCAT stand-alone. So for example, this
    "http://192.168.0.2:8080/xsql/demo/helloworld/helloworld.xsql" works fine...
    When I try to hit it through Apache (w/out the 8080 port) however I simply get the original XSQL query page instead of the query results. In other words, it appears Apache doesn't forward *.xsql requests to the XSQL Servlet...I think? Any ideas - thanks.

    Thanks for your responses...I think I've figured it out for both mod_jserv and mod_jk.
    The mapping of *.xsql to the oracle.xml.xsql.XSQLServlet is taken care of in the web.xml supplied in the XDK. This tells Tomcat to handle all *.xsql files with the XSQLServlet and that was working all along (Tomcat stand-alone).
    What's missing is that Apache needs to direct all *.xsql files to Tomcat. This is taken care of by adding the following lines to the httpd.conf:
    (for mod_jserv add)
    AddType text/xsql .xsql
    AddHandler jserv-servlet .xsql
    (for mod_jk add)
    JkMount /xsql/*.xsql ajp12
    In general, I simply mimiced the configuration of *.jsp files.
    I noticed a posting a few weeks back where someone was getting "rubbish" when they tried to access http://localhost/xsql/ - my guess is that apache was serving up the xsql pages "as is", without passing them onto Tomcat. This should hopefully do the trick...

  • Problem connecting oracle database to jsp pages using Apache Tomcat server 8.0

    Well...I tried too many things..googled so many times..but still could not find solution to my problem.
    I use windows 8 Enterprise Edition(if this has to do something with the problem)
    Oracle 11.2.0
    Apache Tomcat server 8.0
    JDK 1.7
    My oracle is installed in the D: drive and tomcat in c:. i copied the ojdbc6.jar file from oracle to lib directory of tomcat server.
    Then i set  CLASSPATH in environment variables as "C:\Program Files\Apache Software Foundation\Tomcat 8.0\lib\ojdbc6.jar" in system variables
    My path variable is set as "C:\Program Files\Java\jdk1.7.0_02\bin".
    My program is as follows in notepad:
    <%@ page import="java.sql.*" %>
    <html>
    <body>
    <%

    Statement st;
    ResultSet rs;

    conn=DriverManager.getConnection(dbURL,userId,pwd);
    st=conn.createStatement();

    >> Nothing solved this problem.
    Can't fix a problem 'till an actual problem is identified.
    >> ODBC Driver Manager ... Data source name not found
    That appears to be ODBC drivers looking for a DSN (Data Set Name). If it wants a DSN, the DSN has to be specified in the code, and the DSN has to be configured in the windows host ODBC applet. So that is at least two squirrels to get in the right tree before moving forward. A ...host:...[port:]SID|service name are some of the bits needed in a jdbc connect string, and that is in no way related to DSNs. A Whole Different Animal. If it wants a DSN that might be what needs to go in the URL bit.
    And ODBC setups can be confusing, especially if an x64 OS is in the mix- if that is the case there are two different ODBC configuration applets, one for x64 the other for x86, and if one gets as far as talking to an actual database it might toss an architecture error. Only way to fix that "problem" is *delete* the ODBC DSN and then run the correct (maybe the x86) ODBC config utility, and set up the DSN. Again.

  • Viewing XSQL pages from Apache httpd server.

    Hi ,
    I have a Redhat 9 machine on which have installed the Apache 2.0.5 web server. I also have Oracle 9i installed.
    I am trying to write XSQL pages in order to acces the database and to retrieve the data.
    When I open my XSQL sheets with my web browser I get code instead of the retrieved, formatted records.
    I have set up the XSQLConfig.xml file inside the xdk directory but I have a feeling that the Apache web browser does not really know about it. How do I configure apache in order to get the required results.
    Thanks.
    -- Maya.

    in addition to the Apache http server you will need a servlet runner, like Apache Jserv or Tomcat. The Xsql-servlet will run on this servlet runner.
    The http server wil redirect a request for a *.xsql document to the servlet and returns the result.
    With Jserv you will need to modify jserv.properties and include the jars from the xdk installation to the classpath. Also include the XSQLconfig.xml to the classpath.
    I don't know the details for installation on Tomcat, but i think these can be found in the xdk documentation.
    succes, Bart
