Apache's FTPSClient: Unconnected sockets not implemented

I hope I'm posting this in the right corner of the internet.
I am trying to make an FTPS connection using [Apache's FTPSClient|http://commons.apache.org/net/apidocs/org/apache/commons/net/ftp/FTPSClient.html] . While looking for some answers and examples I found [this dead thread|http://forums.sun.com/thread.jspa?threadID=5319482] : Rather then resurrecting it I decided to start a new one. The thing that helped me a lot in the other thread was [the example of poster "reflex2java"|http://forums.sun.com/thread.jspa?messageID=10611018#10611018] . I basically just copy-pasted the whole thing. At first I was struggling with certificates and the keys, but I am over that. Now I'm having difficulty with connecting.
A call to ftpsClient.connect(host, port) results in an Exception: java.net.SocketException: Unconnected sockets not implemented. But I cannot figure out why this is. Some hints on google suggest that it's maybe a bug in java 6. But I've changed to java 5 with no result.
Then I started playing around with some getters hoping I was going to find some more clues of what I am doing wrong.
.getEnabledProtocols(); (Returns the names of the protocol versions which are currently enabled for use on this connection. When a socket does not have a ssl socket, This return null. ) In my case, this returns null;
.getAuthValue() returns "TLS". (I've tried setting the protocol in the FTPSClient construtctor to "SSL" but this remained "TLS")
I don't know if these things mean anything. I can barely find some documentation.
I hope someone can point me in some direction, otherwise I'll have to try another library.

I had the same problem and fortunately, I have resolved it recently :-)
The key is you should write your own class which extends DefaultSocketFactory class and then set it to your FTPS client via method ftpsClient.setSocketFactory(yourSocketFactory);
In your socket factory class, remember to override the createSocket() method and it must return a new Socket, if not it will not work

public Socket createSocket() throws IOException {
return new Socket();
You might want to override the createSocket(host, port) method also to return a Socket with provided host and port.
Now you can use FTPS client to connect to FTPS server :-)
