Apache slow after using Realms
I have multiple Web-Sites running on standard (so far) OS X 10.4.3 Server on an XServe. One site (www.afmk.de) has two pages and hidden areas protected by realms. It works fine ... BUT:
Even following the link to the non-protected second page ("Impressum") takes about 12 seconds to get the reply from my server (and I access the server locally thru my own network!). The XServe-graphs for CPU-usage and network usage are not indicating any special activities.
Any help out there?
Thanks
Axel

2. On which application are you talking about? If it
is Safari, yes, just hit the delete button (where
backspace is on a windows PC)
And if you're talking about finder windows, you can use Command + [ to go back or Command + ] to go forward.

Images load really slow after using Reduce File Size...
After using the "Reduce File Size..." feature in Acrobat 9 on Windows Vista, some of the images load really slow as I page through the document. Is there some kind of compression setting that I should look for to prevent the images from be affected by this?
For some of my documents it will take 30 to 60 seconds to load an image. Sometimes I can't do anything with the document until the graphic loads entirely. Can you post an example of a file that has this issue? Personally, I recommend using the PDF optimizer, it gives better control of the final pdf file.

Mac OS X running slow after using Win 7 on BootCamp
I have a mid-2010 27" Core i5 iMac and I've installed Windows 7 using BootCamp. Every time I use Windows, the computer is responsive, but when I restart on Snow Leopard, my CPU is very slow; meaning every time I do anything for the 1st time, wether it's opening an app or widgets, the CPU responds very slowly. After experiencing this many times, I've uninstalled Windows and now that I have only Mac, after using it for 1 time, everything is as fast is it first was when I got it. Any ideas on why my Windows slows down my Mac partition? Thanks.
This is being mentioned ever since 10.6.6 and shows up in one or two threads or comments per week.
No idea what happening, but my best guess of steps to improve seem useless (backup, format, restore etc) and seems everyone has tried changing startup disk back and forth, and zapping pram and resetting SMC are also of no use.
Does not happen when a drive is not split and are able to have OS X on its own drive and Windows 7 on a different hard drive - not everyone can, though with SSDs there are more possibilities -
Firefox 19 suddenly became very slow after using it for about an hour.
I've been using firefox 19 since it came out and have experienced no problems. Now today after about an hour of using the browser it has become so slow to the point where it becomes unresponsive for about ten seconds when I try to switch to a different tab. What is strange is that when I run firefox in safe mode, its fine, but I haven't downloaded any addons for a few weeks. Any help would be appreciated.

Mac get real slow after using web browser for awhile
Using internet does not matter what which web browser I use after just minutes especially playing the browser runs extremy slow. I have 15" and 17" 4 gig memory on both macs and they both do the same thing, do not think it is the internet I get about 10 mg rate
Sorry, didn't want to post verbose instructions if they weren't needed. Let's go one by one:
Is he getting all the right IP information - IP/mask/gateway/DNS?
Go to a command prompt (Start/run, type CMD then Enter). Then type IPCONFIG then Enter. This will give you everything except DNS. Run IPCONFIG /ALL. Note the DNS server(s). Compare this output with your Mac (System Preferences/Network).
If so, from Terminal, ping the gateway, then DNS, then yahoo.com. Where/when does it fail? If it fails at yahoo.com, does it resolve the name to the IP address?
Whoops, my bad, Terminal is Mac. From the command prompt you're hopefully still in (if not, run CMD again), ping the default gateway listed in the IPCONFIG output from above (type PING followed by gateway address; looks like #.#.#.#) Successful? If so, ping DNS server from IPCONFIG /ALL output. Successful? If so, ping yahoo.com. First, does it resolve yahoo.com to an actual address (i.e. 68.180.206.184)? Do you get replies, or does it timeout? -
MacBook Pro slow after using graphics programs
I'm an architecture student and I have a MacBook Pro 15 ', bought in January 2009 (Intel Core 2 Duo 2.53 GHz / 4 GB Ram / 320 GB HD / NVIDIA GeForce 9400M 256 Mb - NVIDIA GeForce 6600M GT 512MB) with Snow Leopard (Mac OS X 10.6.7).
While studying architecture I find myself often using graphics programs, with jobs that require lots of computing power, this is the second time I have the same problem:
- Use Photoshop CS5 with a large file (around a 1 GB), the computer is not connected with the power, thus using the battery.
The next day I turn on the computer, is considerably slower, noting that the Dock is not fluid, the application menu is jerky, and when moving from one Space to another is no more fluidity.
If I start to use some programs, or even just listening to music with iTunes and surf the Web, is very slow.
I've already done this, so almost the same a few months ago, I tried resetting PRAM and NVRAM, disk repair, repair disk permissions, delete cache system,
I checked the processes in Activity Monitor, closing the most expensive and controlling those that run on Login, I disabled Spotlight, almost complete depletion of HD, removal of most of the programs and any other what is usually recommended in these cases. But nothing worked, until I used the startup disk by deleting everything.
A months later I have the same problem, and I have tried everything I already tried, but the formatting.
In addition to solving the problem, now I would also understand why every time I use my MacBook Pro from € 2000, bought specifically for work with these types of programs and files, I have this type of problems.
Thank you in advance for your interest and hope to receive your early clarification on the matter.Duplicate post. Reported.

DNS lookup very slow after using VPN
Hi everyone smarter than me!
I've recently started using a VPN. I set it up using a program called Viscosity. The VPN works fine, and when I'm connected internet is fine and browsing is as expected.
However whenever I disconnect the VPN connecting to a webpage takes forever. I'm talking 30-seconds type forever. I'm thinking the DNS lookup is slowing things down. Bandwith tests show no difference in bandwith, no difference in ping. Every other computer on the network has normal connection.
Things not working:
- Restarting
- Killing the Viscosity program
- Trying different browsers
- Randomly looking at .conf files I don't understand to look for a fault:)
Would really apreciate some help! From the menu bar, select
▹ System Preferences... ▹ Network ▹ Advanced... ▹ DNS
Under DNS Servers you should have one or more numerical addresses, such as “192.168.1.1” or “10.0.0.1”. What are those addresses? -
my final cut is running extremely slow after having for 6 months. I use external hard drives and save nothing on my computer. it takes a long time to render now. do you think something is wrong with computer. took it to mac store but they fail to help me. I have a 13 inch mac book pro 10.6.8 8gb 2.3 gfz intel core i5
What did Apple tell you about what they did (or did not) find here?
See if working on the main disk is any faster.
USB2 is glacial, as I/O interconnects go. And USB2 disks have been known to fail, or sometimes to drop back to USB1 speeds, too. FireWire 800 is substantially faster than USB2, but still not as fast as the internal drive connections can provide.
Put another way, start varying your configuration, and see which configuration changes (still) have the problem, and which don't. -
My MacBook Pro late 2011 has recently slowed to snails pace after successfully running Yosemite from a clean install for many months.
I always have Activity monitor running to keep an eye on memory and CPU. When the issue started, I noticed Kernel_task for the first time and its 0.5 to 1GB.
I have verified/repaired the disk and repaired permissions in Safe Mode. Also done SMC and PRAM resets.
CPU usage is usually 2% or less unless number crunching in Excel or watching videos.
I created a new user account, which is much faster in opening Safari and searching. There is no Kernel_task showing for the new user.
Cardo-updater is for a motorcycle bluetooth headset.
Xquartz is for GIMP.
Rogueamoeba is for Audio Hijack Pro.
These three have been in use since day 1 of Yosemite and before in Mavericks.
Etrecheck results
Oddities - I don't know what the disk info not mounted means. Not mounting the Recovery disk looks scary to me as uninformed.
Time machine disk too small - thought I was using a 1 TB drive !!
Problem description:
MBP late 2011 has become very slow after a few months after a Yosemite clean install. Kernel_task memory circa 1 GB. CPU activity is a few percent. Created a new user. Activity monitor does not show Kernel_task at all. Much faster as the new user. Permissions repaired in Safe mode. SMC and PRAM reset done. Short hardware test (option D on boot) - no problems. I have VirtualBox to run XP at times for some Win apps.

My Macbook Pro purchased Dec 2011 has suddenly become very slow after not using for 2 weeks (close to frozen). What is the problem and how to solve it?
Need Help Ye,
boot your MacBook Pro into Recovery mode by holding down a Command key and the R key as it starts up. Once the Mac OS X Utilities menu appears, select Disk Utility. On the left-hand side of the Disk Utility window, select your internal disk’s boot partition (typically called “Macintosh HD”). On the right-hand side, press the Verify Disk button if it’s not greyed out; if it is greyed out, or if it reports that errors were found, press the Repair Disk button. Once the verification/repair is completed, exit Disk Utility and select Restart from the Apple menu to restart in normal mode. Is it still very slow? -
I am using iPhone 5C. My wifi is extremely slow after upgrade to ios8. Buffering online video and songs taking forever. What's going on?

Imac finder slow to start - time incorrect after using windows via bootcamp
Everything works fine on my imac except for the following annoying thing that I would like to understand.
After using bootcamp to use windows xp (that also works fine), after I reboot back into Macosx, "sometimes" the finder is noticeably relatively very slow to start (builds the finder window bit by bit) and 'always" the time has been set incorrectly even though I think I have set the windows date and time settings correctly. I use a product available from the macosx downloads called 'cocktail" to maintain the mac - this seems to ok. Both leopard and windows always start - windows has crashed once over the last 6mths or so - macosx never.
The time will reset after I use the date and time pref and toggle the auto update.
Otherwise the imac seems nice and healthy with no hangs or problems - even time machine is working fine. I am generally very impressed.Everything works fine on my imac except for the following annoying thing that I would like to understand.

MacBook Pro very slow and junk mail after using wifi in Italy
After using different wifis in airports and hotels in Italy I am getting lots of junk mail in my inbox. Also my internet is extremely slow. I got a new router hoping that was the problem, and ATT checked our line to see if that was the problem. I 'm afraid I picked up some sort of virus. Is there an easy solution?

Windows slow after photoshop use
I have windows XP, 4GB RAM, 160GB drive, Photoshop CS3. My computer is generally very fast with excellent performance.
When I use Photoshop, running other programs concurrently becomes much slower, which of course I attribute to the large memory and processing needs of Photoshop. But after I'm done using Photoshop and close the program, thereafter I am often stuck with slower performance of the computer and any program I am using. Performance picks up again only if I reboot or log off/on.
I suspect that Photoshop puts memory aside or does some other systems manipulation to enhance its performance, but does NOT reverse it when the program closes. Is that true? How can I fix this problem?
Thanks
MarkWhen an application closes, everything is reclaimed by the system. There is nothing to set aside, nothing hidden.
My guess is that you have a couple of memory hungry apps running, and the OS is paging quite heavily. That should resolve itself after using other apps for a few minutes.
You may get better performance from installing more RAM, or dialing down the amount of RAM you give to Photoshop. -
I'm using iPhone 4S and it was working fast once I purchased and after few months I update my phone since to 7.0.1 since then neither my wifi is working nor my Bluetooth and even my phone is working slow, after than many new updates came I did but nothing works. Kindly help me out how to solve this problem.

OS 10.4.9 - RAID - External Firewire Striping questions
Hello, I have an Apple XServe running 10.4.9 Server, serving a handful of Apple 10.4 clients. We were looking to add inexpensive storage to this server, so we purchased three Lacie External BigDisk Extreme Firewire drives, daisy chained them together
