Apache, SSL and KM components

Hi all,
We have implemented a reverse proxy using Apache 2.0.55 to be used with a SAP EP SP14 and KM module. We are also using SSL to secure the communication between the components.
The issue happens when we try to access some functionality from KM module:
- The Knowledge Management Administration functionalities (under System Administration > System Configuration) do not work properly. You access them, but when you click on a given option, it simply reloads the same page
- The KM Folders, accessed via Content Management > Explorer, will not open. You click on a folder, but it again reloads the same page
- When using UWL Task iView, you get the Task Creation iView reloaded whenever you try to submit it or attach any type of document
- When creating a new collaboration room, after you select the members and try to go to the next step, you return to the initial screen
When we test the same functionalities without using Apache reverse proxy, everything works properly.
Could you please help me to understand what is happening here?
Thanks in advance
Fernando Urzedo

Hi Patrick,
To tell you the truth, we are not sure about what in Apache 2.2 solved the issue. We just gave it a try and it worked

  • Apache, ssl, and php problem

i just added ssl support to my apache website running php. before i added ssl i had a php flash script that has always worked fine until i altered the httpd.conf file to forbid access to this directory unless it was an encrypted connection. i used the code
    <Directory "/home/httpd/html/folder">
        AuthType Basic
        AuthName "user"
        AuthUserFile /home/httpd/passwords/folder
        Require user user
        SSLRequireSSL
    </Directory>
i tested the ssl with the directory running php before i altered the code and it worked fine. now that i altered the code to require ssl, the folder's index shows up a blank page. what went wrong, is there some bug or something i did wrong?

steps to use ssl in arch with apache.
    1) pacman -S openssl apache
    2) Read /etc/httpd/conf/mod_ssl.txt
2a) Edit /etc/conf.d/httpd and set HTTPD_USE_SSL to "yes"
2b) Create an ssl key, request, and certificate.
    # This generates the cert and key (valid for 3650 days)
      # Be sure to enter the FQDN of your apache server as the "Common Name".
openssl req -new -x509 -newkey rsa:1024 -days 3650
        -keyout server.key -out server.crt
      # This will remove the passphrase
openssl rsa -in server.key -out server.key
2c) Modify /etc/httpd/conf/ssl.conf to use your new certificate.
    SSLCertificateFile /etc/httpd/conf/server.crt
    SSLCertificateKeyFile /etc/httpd/conf/server.key
    3) Edit /etc/httpd/conf/ssl.conf
Define an appropriate virtualhost for your ssl site
    4) Restart apache (/etc/rc.d/httpd restart)
If it hangs or fails to start, check the /var/log/httpd/error_log or try running
'/usr/sbin/apachectl startssl' and looking for errors/prompts.
NOTE: Using the same dir for ssl and non-ssl does not make sense, as someone could just use non-ssl to access the same information. Instead, create a new directory (something like /home/httpd/ssl), and use that dir for ssl web activities. Adjust /etc/httpd/conf/ssl.conf accordingly

  • Apache SSL segment faults

Have seen throughout the newsgroups references to the segmenation faults occuring with Apache-SSL and the WLS module. The fix in most instances was to was to remove a PathTrim statement, and the segfaults went away.I do not have any PathTrim statements, and only have to add the LoadModule and AddModule lines to the httpd.conf and any attempted SSL connection will generaet a segfault (I have not even added the IfModule mod_weblogic.c statement)I am running Apache 1.3.9, mod_ssl, Weblogic 6 SP1.Any help would be greatly appreciated.ThanksMark Parker

Is there a tentative list of accelerators that will be supported? If the
Sun accelerators are not on that list, please add them.

whoops - got ahead of myself.
I don't know that there are plans to have the plugin use hardwareaccelerators. I was
writing about the WLS server supporting hardware ssl accelerators in thefuture.

    Hi.
Currently there is no support for ssl hardware accelerators. There are
    plans for this

  • Apache, iPrint and SSL/nile.nlm

    Hi,
Getting various abends on a daily basis. Server is running as a vm on ESX 4.1 on an AMD platform. The running process is not always the same (apache_workprocess, seg.nlm, pcountdp.nlm) but the type of abend seems to be very consistent. It is the "Kernel detected an attempted context switch in an MPK Fast WTD". Another consistency seems to be that SSL and nile.nlm are high up on the stack - but maybe that is just normal for any iPrint server with secure iprint enabled on every printer (about 400 printer agents).
Thinking it might be a bad cert I have tried using both the self-signed "SSL CertificateDNS" cert and a third-party (Thawte) cert. Same result in either case. I have also tried the various tweaks on ESX for NetWare guest vm's :
    - setting the memory reservation
    - settting cpu affinity,
    - setting the virtualization method to use hardware (Intel/AMD mmu and Intel/AMD instruction set) rather than automatic,
    - removing the acpidrv.psm module from startup.ncf
    - I have NOT set the NUMA memory node affinity.
The last thing I can think of to try is to turn off secure iPrint. If I do that, can I load apache without it listening on port 443 and not break any iPrint services? I do have iManager running on this same guest as well but I do not need it there.
    Any other ideas?
    Thanks,
    Ron
Below are two recent abends, one with pcountdp.nlm and the second with apache_worker process. I've cut the nlm list on the second abend to get it to fit into this post.

Maybe Hamish Speirs can explain it - it was his post in another thread that gave me the idea and commands to try (see http://forums.novell.com/forums/nove...r-10038-a.html).
We had a confluence of changes at the beginning of the semester (Sept) that no doubt helped contribute to the problem and yet also mask the real cause to a certain extent.
    1. The Thawte cert expired and was replaced with a new cert - Thawte does not support doing renewals on NetWare. This happened around the start of Sept.
    2. School semester begins. Thousands of students return.
    3. We use Pcounter for pay-for-print and it uses httpstk to provide a webpage for students to authorize print jobs.
    4. Printing activity in general goes way up.
    5. All printers are Secure.
    6. Apache, iPrint and httpstk all use the same Thawte certificate
    7. The print server was also hosting the netstorage service which also uses the Thawte cert (via apache).
    8. The print server was recently (August) virtualized (via p2v using the excellent Portlock Storage Manager)
Eventually I built a new NetWare vm to host print services and got a new cert so at least the netstorage and print services were no longer running together. I suspected at that point that the likely source of the abends was NetStorage since Nile and SSL were almost always involved in the abends.
After the separation the issues continued - so it wasn't netstorage's fault. Desparate searching of the 'net lead to H.'s post. The rest is history!
It has now been 9 days up uptime without a single nile/ssl related abend ( I had one abend in pcounter but services survived).

  • 6.1 SP 2 certificate authenticator fails with Apache plugin and SSL

    Hi,
Does anybody have a certificate authenticator working in WebLogic 6.1
SP 2, in combination with the Apache HTTP Server plugin and SSL?
We implemented a certificate authenticator that works correctly in
WebLogic 6.1 SP 2 when we configure SSL with "Client Certificate
Required", and access it directly from a browser (the browser hits the
SSL port of the WebLogic server, like 7002).
This certificate authenticator also works correctly with a proxy web
server. We set up a Stronghold server (web server based on Apache) on
Linux with the Apache HTTP Server plugin from BEA, configured the
plugin to use SSL, and configured our WebLogic 6.1 SP 1 server without
"Client Certificate Required". The certificate authenticator gets the
    end user's certificate correctly.
This same architecture with the proxy web server does not work when we
upgrade the WebLogic Server to SP 2. WebLogic Server logs the
"incorrect or missing client cert" error, our certificate
authenticator is never called, and the browser gets a 401 Unauthorized
    error.
We looked all over the WebLogic 6.1 SP 2 installation for a newer
version of the plugin (mod_wl_ssl.so) and found the same version as SP
    1. We double-checked that it was the Linux-specific installer
(because we'd found that some Linux libraries are missing from the
generic installer). So it appears to us that the plugin encodes the
certificate in the request header in such a way that a SP 1 server can
extract it, but an SP 2 server cannot. We were wondering whether
there might be changes to the plugin to stay in step with the SP 2
server that never got ported to Linux, or whether an updated Linux
plugin never got included in the installer packages.
So: has anybody gotten a system like
    Apache/Stronghold + WebLogic Plugin <-- SSL --> WebLogic 6.1 SP 2 +
    Cert Auth
    to work?
Thanks in advance for any help,
    Jim Doyle
    [email protected]

    A correction, I think:
Now that I rolled back a system to 6.1 SP 1, it looks like 6.1 SP 1
does include a different mod_wl_ssl.so from that in SP 2. I believe I
was comparing the wrong file. In fact, trying to compare versions of
the mod_wl_ssl.so makes things rather confusing:
    A mod_wl_ssl.so from a straight weblogic610sp2_generic.zip install has
    a cksum of "1853014778 1132467".
    A mod_wl_ssl.so from a weblogic610sp1_generic.zip install with a
subsequent SP 2 upgrade install has a cksum of "1350917183 1147927".
    A mod_wl_ssl.so from a plain 6.1 install with subsequent SP 1 and SP 2
upgrade installs, followed by an SP 2 uninstall and another SP 1
upgrade install, has a cksum of "1471948065 1136501".
I think I may be looking at three different plugin versions here: 6.1,
6.1 SP 1, and 6.1 SP 2, assuming the upgrade installs don't actually
change mod_wl_ssl.so. I'm not sure whether there's an easier way to
verify what version of the plugin you have.
In any case, we did try each plugin version, and none of them works
    against a 6.1 SP 2 WebLogic server.

  • Apache/SSL Tomcat config weirdness...

I thought I read a post related to this recently, but I can't find it (the forum search is flaky lately), so I'm making my own post...
We have Apache 1.3 with mod_ssl for SSL, Tomcat 4.1.24 and mod_jk set up. Things work fine for most of this setup, except this weird thing happening with our pushlet servlet. The pushlet is a servlet that never closes and we push data to an applet client in the browser.
The JSP and other servlets (one that creates a chart image, for example) work fine. The weird thing is the pushlet servlet, on the other hand, will not work fine. It has multiple output modes: Javascript, Serialized Object and XML, and we use the Serialized Object mode with the client applet, but for some reason it is disregarding what mode we ask for only when using SSL. When we connect to Tomcat directly (we have port 8080 open for testing) without SSL, the pushlet stuff works fine as well. It seems that when we connect to the pushlet (testing by typing the URL in the browser) with SSL, it defaults to the Javascript mode no matter what we put in the query string of the URL, and Javascript not being serialized objects, the client barfs. (XML mode doesn't work either.)
It's made more weird because the debug statements we put in the doGet method of the pushlet servlet don't get written either in SSL mode, but they do in non-SSL mode. Very strange, cuz basically we figured the pushlet servlet is somehow not getting the parameters of the query string in the request (which is what I thought I saw a thread about that I mentioned before).
So clearly the obvious answer is that something isn't configured correctly between Apache and Tomcat. But I can't seem to figure out what. Any ideas?

I wouldn't say most... you've been pretty busy yourself...
One possible conclusion we've come up with is: We are using RedHat Linux 9, and I rebuilt Apache, mod_ssl and mod_jk myself on that system. But someone else installed it, and I recall (vaguely, and the someone else no longer around) that he had some issue running them with the mod_jk I built for RH9, so he ended up using the one we had from a RH7.2 installation (which the whole thing on a RH7.2 system works fine, SSL or not). He had said it was working with the RH7.2 mod_jk, but maybe he didn't check the right things, and I didn't follow up on it at the time cuz it wasn't important at the time.
So the thought is that maybe it's the mod_jk that's really causing a problem for some reason. Some incompatability in the builds for the OS versions. Why it's only during SSL connections, I don't know, but the rest of the config seems to be correct.
As for the SSL How-To, yes, I've looked thru it again (as I said, though, we have the same thing on an RH7.2 system is working fine, and in both cases I built Apache, mod_ssl and mod_jk from source for both systems). I'm considering setting up stand-alone SSL on Tomcat and taking Apache out of the loop to see if it works that way.
We have, however, pretty much ruled out the pushlet servlet (it's 3rd party code) as the problem. We have the source, and it's too simple in what it does to be messed up, and debug statements we put in don't seem to indicate any problem.
    Well, more investigations tomorrow.

  • Problems with Oracle, Apache, mod_ssl and firewalls - hang

    Hi,
We have an Apache server as supplied by Oracle (1.3.19), serving both
    static html and mod_plsql pages.
When the system is accessed via SSL and the Internet, it will tend to hang
after a relatively short time - especially if two people access at the same
time. This is seen at the browser as a page that simply fails to arrive,
there is no standard 'Page could not be found' type message.
A network sniffer seems to show that there is some continuing network
traffic, but the Apache error_log does not show activity.
If the system is accessed without SSL but still via the Internet then there
appears to be no problems and the system runs a lot faster than SSL +
    Internet.
If the system is accessed with SSL but internally so avoiding the Internet
then there also appears to be no problems and the system runs faster than
    SSL + Internet.
Our servers are running NT4 SP6.
Our firewall is Checkpoint NG running on Solaris (although we also
swapped in a Nokia firewall running Checkpoint 4.1 which had the same
    results).
Any thoughts on what might be occurring, what we should be looking at
    next?

  • SSL and 10gAS Form/Reports Services standalone

Successfully installed 10g Forms and Reports Services standalone (without Infrastructure). Successfully created a new Reports Service and it has been running OK (with some bugs crashing/restarting reports occasionally, inconsistent web-based information, inconsistent logs). Next step is to get certificate for this SSL working. Note 250532.1 does not help our environment since we don't use Infrastructure. Even tried to use the Command C:\OraHome1\jdk\bin\keytool to begin with certificate but it just does not work. Oracle tech support told me SSL is not yet for standalone FR Services.
I'd like to know if anyone has other suggestion/experience about configuring SSL on a standalone FR Services to make https working.
    Thanks.

Here you go. Here is how to make a 9.0.4 Forms and Report Services only install SSL enabled.
    1. Open Enterprise Manager.
    2. Disable Web Cache component.
2a. optionally stop Enterprise Manager service to save resources.
    3. Edit httpd.conf file.
3a. On line before ClearModuleList, add this:
    LoadModule ossl_module modules/ApacheModuleOSSL.DLL
3b. Now after the last AddModule which is just before "<IfDefine SSL>", add this line:
    AddModule mod_ossl.c
3c. Make sure you have these two lines:
    Listen 80
    Listen 443
If you have something else like Listen 7777, you can remove these.
3d. Now add these lines just before "SetEnv PERL5LIB":
    <IfModule mod_ossl.c>
    AddType application/x-x509-ca-cert .crt
    AddType application/x-pkcs7-crl .crl

As you can tell, this is on a Windows server so you'll need to change the location of the default wallet to the correct directory. On Windows, a default wallet with a cert is provided.
Save the httpd.conf file and restart the HTTP_Server. HTTP and HTTPS now works. HTTPS should prompt you that the cert doesn't match but it is listening.
Get your wallet configured now and install it. Restart HTTP_Server and you are done.
That SSL section was borrowed from a test install of 9.0.2.3 that had all of that included. I'm sure you could do the same by borrowing from a full install of 9.0.4.
Now you could use WebCache which is pretty straight forward. Look on Metalink if you don't want to turn off WebCache on how to configure a wallet with it. I prefer to use Apache SSL but that is just me. :)

  • How do I bind to directory server with SSL and authentication?

I'm running Lion Server 10.7.3, Open Directory master. In Open Directory/Settings/LDAP, I've checked the box to Enable SSL and selected a (self-signed) certificate. In Policies/Binding, I've checked the box to Enable Authenticated Directory Binding.
Testing with a client computer on which Snow Leopard has been freshly installed and fully updated, I went to System Prefs/Accounts to bind to the new directory server. The good news is, the binding was successful, and when the client initiates an AFP connection with the server, it uses Kerberos, creating a ticket as expected. (Which doesn't work with Lion clients, alas, but that's a seperate matter.)
    Here are the problems:
    1) It looks like the binding did not use SSL. By which I mean that when I opened Directory Utility and examined the LDAPv3 entry, the SSL checkbox was not checked. (If I then check the box, everything looks fine until I restart the client, after which I have a red dot. So I'm guessing that checking the box does nothing until after restart, and that it breaks the binding.)
    2) I was never prompted to authenticate for the directory binding.
So I get that literally I'm *enabling* SSL and Authenticated Directory Binding, but it seems like the defaults are to bind without SSL or authentication, and there's no obvious-to-me way to force the binding to use those things. How do I do that?
What I'd really like to do is *require* SSL and Authenticated Directory Binding. I want this because my belief (correct me if I'm wrong) is that if authentication is required to bind to the server, no one will be able to bind to my server without my permission, and that SSL offers a more secure connection to my server than not-SSL. How do I require these things, or do I not really want to?
    Thank you.

  • Apex Listener/Apache Tomact and filenames with spaces

I've installed the Apex Listener with Apache Tomcat, and all seems to work fine. Except when I try to do a CSV file data upload via the utilities screen in apex. If the filename/directory path contains spaces, then Apex reports "File Must Be Specified" error - yet if I do this same operation via EPG instead of Tomcat, it works. Are there any restrictions in Tomcat to using spaces??

Look at this thread. Re: File upload problem

  • EDSPermissionError(-14120) problems with LDAP, SSL and Directory Utility

    Hello everyone,
Apologies for the repost but I think I may have made a mistake by posting this originally in the Installation, Setup and Migration forum instead of the Open Directory forum. At least I think that may be why I didn't receive any responses.
Anyway, I've been trying to get my head around Open Directory and SSL as they are implemented in Mac OS X Server 10.5 Leopard, and have been having a few issues. I would like to set up a secure internal infrastructure based around a local Certificate Authority that signs certificates for other internal services like LDAP, email, websites, etc.
I only have one Mac OS X Server and it is kind of a small office so I have gone against best practice and simply made it a CA (through Keychain Utility). I then generated a self-signed SSL certificate through Server Admin, and used the "Generate CSR" option to create a Certificate Signing Request. This went fine, but I did have some problems signing it with the CA, because the server documentation suggested that once I signed it it would pop open a Mail message containing the ASCII version of the signed certificate - it did not, and it took me a loooong time to realize that I could simply export the copy of the signed certificate it put in my local Keychain on the server as a PEM file and paste this back into the "Add Signed or Renewed Certificate from Certificate Authority" dialog box in Server Admin. Hopefully this can be fixed in a forthcoming patch, but I thought I would mention it here in case anyone else is stuck on this issue.
Once I did this I was able to use this certificate in the web server on the same machine and sure enough I was able to connect to it with with clients who had installed the CA certificate in their system Keychains without getting any error messages - very cool.
However, I haven't had quite as much luck getting it going with LDAP/Open Directory. I installed the certificate there as well, but have run into a number of problems. At first I could not get clients (also running 10.5.2) to talk to the server at all over SSL, receiving an error in Directory Utility that the server did not support SSL. I eventually discovered that the problem seemed to lie in the fact that the OpenLDAP implementation on Leopard is not tied in with the system Keychain, necessitating some command-line voodoo to install a copy of the CA cert in a local directory and point /etc/openldap/ldap.conf at it, as documented here: http://www.afp548.com/article.php?story=20071203011158936
This allowed me to do an ldapsearch command over SSL, and seemingly turn SSL on on clients that were previously bound to the directory, and additionally allowed me to run Directory Utility on new clients and put in the server name with the SSL box checked and begin to go through the process of binding. Once this seemed to work, I turned off all plaintext LDAP communication and locked down the service by checking the "Enable authenticated directory binding," "Require authenticated binding," "Disable clear text passwords," and "Encrypt all packets" options in Server Admin. However, I am now running into a new problem, specifically that I cannot successfully bind a local account to a directory account over SSL.
    Here's what happens:
    1) I run Directory Utility, (or it auto-runs) and add a server, typing in the DNS name and clicking the SSL box.
    2) I get asked to authenticate, and type in user credentials, including computer name (incidentally, should this be a FQDN or just a hostname?)
    3) Provided I put admin credentials in here and not user-level credentials, I get taken to the "Do you want to set up Mail, VPN, etc.?" box that normally appears when you autodiscover or connect to an Open Directory server.
    4) I click through, and am asked for a username and password on the server, as well as the password for my local account.
    5) When I put this information in, I get a popup with the dreaded "eDSPermissionError(-14120)" and it fails.
Checking the logs in Server Admin reveals nothing special, and while I have seen a couple other threads on this error and various other binding problems:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=5967023
    http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=5982070
these have not solved the problem. In the Open Directory user name field I am putting the short username. I have tried putting [email protected] and the user's longname but this fails by saying the account does not exist. For some reason it does seem to work if I bind it to the initial admin account I created, but no other user accounts.
If I turn all the encryption stuff off I am able to join just fine, so I am suspecting that the error may lie in some other "under the hood" piece of software that doesn't get the CA trust settings from the Keychain or the ldap.conf file, but I'm stymied as to which piece of software this might be. Does anyone have any clues on what I might be able to do here?
    Thanks,
    Andrew

Hard to tell what is happening without looking at the application
source, knowing what OS & hardware you're using etc. You might want to
try running with different JVM versions to see if it's actually the VM
that is the problem. If you have a support contract with BEA you could
ask support to help you diagnose this.

  • Oledb and path length - Oracle client and networking components ...

    Hello,
    I've been suddenly getting the
"Oracle client and networking components were not found. These components are supplied by Oracle Corporation and are part of the Oracle Version 7.3.3 or later client software installation."
error when trying to connect to an oracle 9.2 database using the msdaora oledb provider.
"..ora92/bin" is in my PATH environoment variable and the hints about setting read and execute permissions on the ..ora92/bin direction didn't work for me. However, what did do the trick, was reducing the length the PATH environement variable to under 182 characters.
Anybody else seen this that can explain what's gonig on here?
    Erik

    Hello Kamal,
    Thanks for your reply
    My system looks like this:
OS: MS Windows XP Professional Service Pack 2
    msdaora version: 2.81.1117.0
This problem has only recently surfaced, but has now appeared on at least two other systems as well as my own. Any system changes must have happened on all three systems. I have "automatic updates" setup on my computer and they maybe setup on the other computers - could the be responsible for breaking oledb?
    Other things I have tried:
The Oracle Oledb provider is also not working. It gives me the error:
"OraOLEDBpus.dll: the specified module could not be found"
When I reduce the size of the PATH variable it works too.
I am always able to run executables from the ../ora92/bin directory. So the path is only being wrongly interpreted by the Oledb providers.

  • Please, Help Embedding Fonts in TextArea , TextInput and Alert Components

    Please, forgive my bad english.
Here is my problem (using Flash CS3 ActionScript 2).
I have on the stage :
    • an instance of TextArea with Instance Name :
    message_ta
    • an instance of TextInput with instance Name : name_ti
    • and I have in the library an instance of Alert
component, with default linkage Identifier : Alert
for each one of this components I need to embed the same
    font.
I already created a New Font in the library, choosing the
font I want to use, giving it name "my_font" and size 8px.
Now, please, can someone help me to write the actions to
embed that font (my_font) inside the TextArea, TextInput and Alert
    components ?
    Thank you .

    You're right,my mistake, components don't have a font
parameter, I was thinking of the textField. In any case you can use
    setStyle.
    1. Import the font(s) that you want to use into your movie's
    Library.
    2. Set each font's Linkage to be exported for Actionscript.
Set the identifier name as you like
    3. Set your component(s) on the stage.
    4. Name each component instance.
    5. In a frame action space, define the style for each
    component:
    componentName.setStyle("fontFamily","fontName");
    componentName.setStyle("fontSize",12);
    componentName.text = "hello";
    componentName.embedFonts = true;
There is a section in the online help that lists the various
style properties that you can set for each component.

I traced through the working (in QA) and non-workinfg versions and checked the pipeline prior to the call and can see no different apart from the difference in protocol.
Does anyone have any idea what the cause is? I cannot determine what value is null.
