APACHE2+PHP5

Hi Folks,
I am brand new to PHP5 and APACHE2, and am trying to install both on Linux Redhat 3.
Basically, I type in http://localhost into my browser (Mozilla) and it shows the successful installation page for apache.
I then installed PHP 5 follow the instruction on PHP manual site.
I've checked for PHP and Apache get along with one another follow the instruction:
1.LoadModule php5_module modules/libphp5.so
2.AddType application/x-httpd-php .php .phtml .html
AddType application/x-httpd-php-source .phps
And I wrote a simple page to test php works..
<? phpinfo(); ?> named it test.php.
I keep getting the error 404 when I try to test php in the browser by typing http://localhost/test.php
The requested URL /php/php.exe/test.php was not found on this server.
Apache/2.0.46 (Redhat) server at locahost Port 80.
any clues as to where I am going wrong?
A lot of thnx for you help ;o)
TIA,
Lux

  • AttachCurrentThread hangs after a few calls in a Apache2 PHP5 Extension

    Hello everybody,
I have created a small C Library/API that calls with JNI a simple Java class with a few methods to work with a underlying Java Framework (Carrot2). That JVM/JNI code functions some kind like a bridge between C and Java. In a single-threaded environment I experienced no problems, the complete runtime flow works well, I get no crashes or other strange behaviour.
Now I have built an PHP5 extension that makes use of that JNI/C code, the extension is built as a class with constructor/destructor and has a few methods that call functions of my C library. The JNI/C side I have 2 data structs, one is for the JVM and its handle (JavaVM) as well as the Java class name and its path, the jclass object of that class, jvm options, classpath, etc. A second data struct is for the Java environment containing the JNIEnv pointer, the jobject of the Java class and a few more application related variables. The C code consists of JNI functions to work with the Java class to call its methods, a few JNI helper functions and some internal application code and data handling.
At module initialization (Apache startup) I use the PHP_MINIT and PHP_MSHUTDOWN functions to load and unload (on apache stop) the JVM. The JVM gets created and destroyed at these points.
I use the PHP constructor (inside the extension) to attach to the JVM, that is AttachCurrentThread with the class constructor, I create and object of the Java class and preload a few Java primitives that I need for my methods later on and after all this I can work with the Java class through JNI. On PHP5 class destruction (also in the extension), I detach from the JVM using 'DetachCurrentThread', free some resources and "delete" the JNIEnv pointer (set it to NULL).
The JVM data struct (containing the JVM object) is a static global in the PHP5 module since I think there is no need for thread safety. This data is only modified/used in module startup/shutdown. The JNI worker struct (data struct with the JNIEnv pointer and jobject, etc is safely handled by the Zend object store throughout the complete class, so this should be thread-safe. So I do not suspect any problem here.
Testing the PHP 5 extension with a small PHP5 script using that PHP class and a few methods in Apache debug mode (that is the -X switch for just one worker process) works like a charm, no problems, crashes or misbehaving situations, not up to now with my testing though. But running Apache in regular mode with multiple processes, I run in to problems. One major problem is, after a few reloads of the php script using the extension class (lets say 10-15 reloads; The request is handled by the same apache child process) the `AttachCurrentThread' call hangs and the child process remains in that state. Continuing reloading the script a new child process answers and also here, after 10-15 reloads of the script, I get the same problem. So I am not sure what is really happening here nor I do not know how to solve that issue. Is that a signal problem (I read, that there can be signal mask issues and the JVM hangs when a new thread tries to attach to it, for example, the Jakarta Tomcat JK JNI worker uses a signal hack because of this problem. But that does not help me.
Or is there some problem with the multi-threading itself (since the JVM is multithreaded too)? Another problem is, besides that hanging thread attach, that the processing sometimes stops in middle of a java call (I have one method that insert data (calling a add method in a for loop) with JNI into a Java list on the Java class side, there it can stop in middle of the insertion process.
So, for now, I have no idea how to continue. Like said, in a single threaded environment, as a process, the application runs fine without a flaw.
Some details of my development machines: Ubuntu Lucic 10.04 LTS (also another Ubuntu 8 LTS), Apache2 MPM Worker (multithreaded model) and also on another machine the prefork version, Java JRE 6.0.22, PHP 5.2.16 (compiled from source).
So any hints that can help me proceeding the development of this module for PHP would be great. Any help is appreciated. If there are questions or some unclear points, please let me know.

    That is unclear.
I presume that you have a PHP class which is making JNI calls.
Presumably you have a single thread in the caller of the PHP class, specifically a single method, which creates the PHP class, interacts with it, and then destroys it.
Yes, programming PHP5 extensions in C or C++ let you implement a class or just flat functions that can be used in the PHP scripting language. I implemented a class. So my constructor attaches to the (already at Apache/Module startup created JVM). After that, I can use the methods I have implemented to use the carrot2 framework. To communicate with the Carrot2 library, I have written a simple Java Class containing static functions for adding documents, executing clustering algorithms and receiving the search results, so all pretty straightforward I think. When the PHP script exists (request finished) then the class destructor is called (also implemented in my PHP5 extension) to detach from the JVM and make some cleanup. This is generally how things work.
Most problems with JNI is caused by pointer problems or misusing the API (like not handling exceptions correctly.)
Other than that the Sun VM has a command line option that reports useful information when using JNI.I can compile and run my JNI code with some test data from command line and I pass to the JVM some debugging parameters (such as -Xcheck:jni, -verbose:jni and Xint) for testing and debugging. I get no exceptions, errors or warnings. Everything is executed cleanly, I see some JNI/JVM debugging output (such as Dynamic-linking native method messages) along my own debugging output and the program finishes normally. Most JNI calls are wrapped in special macros and I check for exceptions, describe and clear them and act with these situtions (if any), I also added a method to the Java Class where I am able to receive the Java backrace for further investigation and abort execution.
So for now I am out of ideas. This is why I don't understand these problems within the Apache/PHP process. Like stated above, Apache with one worker "-X" the complete code runs fine, even with consecutive calls all is fine, but then in regular multiprocess mode, I get the above problems like the AttachCurrentThread hangs or the execution of called methods of my Java class (inserting documents to a ArrayList or executing one of the clustering algorithms) hang and I have no other choice but to stop Apache.
One more thing, I valgrinded my C code as far as possible. It is not possible to valgrind C code that creates and executes a JVM. Valgrind will stop and report "Error occurred during initialization of VM". No wonder though, I do not expect valgrind to execute the JVM beast in its context. The PHP5 version i compiled from source is thread-safe (at least I compiled it with the proper flags for that).
So any other debugging hints or ideas are welcome.

  • Apache2/php5.2/mysql for Drupal

    Hello,
there is a little bit here and there about the topics in the subject but it seems that that triplet is enough important to deserve special attention in its own topic.
    Basic questions:
I am assuming that everything can practically be done using the command line. Am I wrong?
How do I get rid of the original apache2 (or any other application) installation? What is the directory structure of a "Mac" and why is it not posted somewhere on the Apple's website?
Does anybody know why the GD image module is not available in the php that comes out the Apple Mac pro Box? What is the rational part of it?
    Specific questions:
How do I install apache2? Is this enough?
    extract it somewhere (/usr/local/src/)
    then:
    sudo ./configure --enable-layout=Darwin --enable-mods-shared=all
    sudo make
    sudo make install
Is the Darwin layout suppose to rewrite the "house" settings? I does not seem like it!
How do I install mysql? Is this correct?
Install the binaries from mysql.com and then
    Install mysql libraries for php
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TA25017
How do I remove the original php?
Should php-5.2.6 have GD support already installed?
I hope that somebody out there knows this stuff because apple is giving me too much trouble.
    Thanks a lot
    Daniele

leopard server is a lot more secure and easier to manage a large group, if that's what it is for.
I don't exactly know what you are trying to accomplish, but if it is going to see any serious
server usage to a bunch of students and the internet, then Leo server would be the logical
choice. If its just for a temporary small project, then that may be a different story.
As cheap as hosting is right now, if it is a temporary project. just host it somewhere.

  • Where is the guide for Apache2/php5/10g/Linux install?

    http://www.oracle.com/technology/tech/opensource/php/apache/inst_php_apache_linux.html
is now sadly outdated considering that the stable releases on all products are now:
    Apache -> 2.0.52
    Php -> 5.0.2
    Oracle -> 10.1.0.3
I am looking to run namely these software versions on a Linux (Fedora Core and/or Debian) system, but can't find any worthwhile documentation anywhere (oracle, google etc.).
First of all I would like to know if it is even possible to run Apache 2.0.52/Php 5.0.2 with oracle-instantclient-basic-10.1.0.2?
I know that with Oracle 9i you had to install the whole 300MB client install to get things to work easy, but that time has surely passed?(!)
I am running oracle 10g on a seperate installment, and would like to connect to it with Apache 2 and Php 5. What is the best way to do this?
I don't want to sound rude, and I do not expect a full installation guide, but if somebody could tell me how to do this I would appreciate it. The apache part is easy, the tricky part is the --with-oci8 php part combined with the instantclient (installed correctly and added in ld.so.conf).
--with-oci8=/usr/lib/oracle/10.1.0.2/client/(lib) does not even remotly work. Whats the trick, if any?

I have been working on this issues for a few days now. I was able to get Apache 2.0.52, PHP 5.0.2 and Oracle 10g Client(Administrator option) to work. Here's my compile
    export ORACLE_BASE=/opt/oracle
    export ORACLE_HOME=/opt/oracle/OraHome_1
    export ORACLE_SID=DBRAC
    export PATH=$PATH:$HOME/bin:$ORACLE_HOME/bin
    export LD_LIBRARY_PATH=$ORACLE_HOME/lib:/usr/lib
    ./configure with-apxs2=/apache/bin/apxs with-oci8=$ORACLE_HOME --enable-sigchild
However, when I compile using '--with-xsl' option (I isolated the problem with this option), I cannot get a database connection. There's no error with the compile. Can anyone help me? Thanks in advance
    Here's my actual command
    ./configure with-apxs2=/apache/bin/apxs with-oci8=$ORACLE_HOME enable-sigchild enable-track-vars enable-sockets enable-wddx with-curl with-mysql with-gd with-gettext with-ldap with-xsl enable-soap enable-discard-path --enable-exif

  • Compile Apache2, PHP5 and mysql 4.1 with altered settings

    Hi Fellow mac users!
I would liek to install those environments on my new MBP 17", like I used to be with my own written compile scripts on my linux boxes. Is this possible?
If some are there some issues I must be aware of? Found nothing relevant from my friend Google, only bumped to the MAMP installations. Any help would be appreciated and feedback will alse be provide from my side just to provide info to others.
    TIA
    RoZeeL

The hardest part is getting the software to install on top of the Apple versions instead of some default install location like /usr/local. Your best bet is to download the packages from Apple at:http://developer.apple.com/opensource/index.html
In theory, when you build and install these packages, they should get squirrelled into the correct locations.
You might also want to look at MAMP: http://www.mamp.info/

  • PHP5 OCI8 Oracle Client on MacOS X Leopard - Installation Script

    Hello,
There is a new bash scripts for the installation and configuration of Apache2, PHP5, Oracle Client v10.2 and OCI8 on MacOS X running Leopard. The script was tested on Leopard 10.5.4. It should work with the pervious versions of Leopard but I doubt it will work on Tiger.
The script MacOracleViaPHP.sh will automate the whole setup. It can be found here http://www.danilovizzarro.it/script/MacOracleViaPHP.sh
In order to have it working it's required to download the oracle client basic, SDK, SqlPlus, Apache2, PHP5 and OCI8 in the /root directory.
A step-by-step tutorial + video demo can be found here http://www.danilovizzarro.it/?p=11
    BR
    DV

This could be the start of a great series!
In the intro, the in-video explanation text could say where the files come from and what they do.
Over half of the video consists of updating Ubuntu packages (e.g the kernel!) - this makes the video harder to follow and makes the installation seem harder than it really is. It also doesn't match the statement that the OS has been installed. If viewers think the install requires a lot of extra files and OS changes, you might frighten people from doing the install.
Setting the root password and not disabling it again is not the best example of security. Why not just "sudo gnome-terminal" or "sudo xterm" ?
For visual clarity, I'd suggest removing the window translucency.

  • MySql slowdown over time

I have a apache2/php5/mysql5 setup on tiger. The wordpress site runs fine to start with, but after a while (usually a couple of hours) the site slows down upon every request. When the slowdown occurs there is also a lot of disk activity, like something is being cached on disk. The Mac Pro has 8GB Ram installed so its not a shortage of resources. When I restart the mysql service the problem goes away for a few hours then repeats. I have scripted a service restart cron job every hour to get around this but if anyone has come across this before can the sing out!!

Never found the answer but an upgrade to leopard sorted the issue.

  • Distributed Deployment - AMFPHP or Zend?

    Hi
I want to have a client side Air applications which connects to a wan server (currently setup as linux with apache2, php5 and mysql) . The server side will be uploading/downloading jpeg images from the mysql database and other string information, with the client making the relevant upload/download requests.
Should I be able to have the images in mysql, accessed via php to the client? Should I need anything else? I've noted some people mention amfphp or zend framework? Do I need these things? I'm currently struggling to get the flash framework to be able to connect to the PHPweb service.

    Q,
The first place to start is to look at the cucm 10.X SRND. Look in detail at capacity planning and call processing.
    http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/td/docs/voice_ip_comm/cucm/srnd/collab10/collab10/callpros.html
Each cucm 10.X node can support a total of 10,000 users/devices using the 10,000 OVA template. The cluster can support a total of 40,000 users/devices. I am sure this will meet your present and future needs.
Next you need to look at sizing. The cisco virtualization wiki details what to do in this case..
    http://docwiki.cisco.com/wiki/Unified_Communications_in_a_Virtualized_Environment#How_to_Design
Download the sizing tool from here
    http://tools.cisco.com/cucst/faces/landing.jsp
Then use the placement tool to determine how you should place your VMs..
You  may want to send your final output to Cisco to verify your design. Virtualization is not so straight forward as bare metal server deployments, so you need to design carefully.
From what you have said, looking at about 20,000 users I would suggest the following
    1. 4 cucm subscribers--each deployed with 5,000 users/devices. This setup will allow for one to one backup
    2. 2 dedicated tftp/moh servers
    3. 1 publisher
That gives you a total of 7 virtual machines. This means that you will need two UCS servers-C series servers
Although the sizing tool suggested 12 VMs with six subscribers.. (this means that you will need three UCS servers-C series)
For SRST, depending on how critical the phone system is you either do the ff
    1. Use the voice gateway at the site to support SRST. This obviously is limited to the capacity of the voice gateway at the site
    2. Re-use the existing cucm servers and deploy them at the local site just for SRST. This will ensure you can support the whole site in SRST
It is advisable to place your UCS servers in your DC. If you have a single DC, then you place one there and then the other at another site (Hq)

  • New Server - Not Getting Event.Data back

Its a weird problem i'm having. I've setup a brand new server (Original was a shared hosting setup from godaddy).
    I'm using my same application
And i'm not getting event.data info back (in XML form)
    Here's an example:
    private function onUploadCompleteData(event:DataEvent):void {
    updateStatus(event.data, _numCurrentUpload - 1);
    var x:XML = new XML(event.data.toString()); <---- NOT FIRING
    Application.application.upAvatar = "/profile/" + x.name;
Does anyone have any ideas? I was thinking it could be a misconfiguration with my apache settings.
    I'm using:
    Ubuntu
    Apache2
    PHP5
    CURL
    Thanks..

    hi,
have you placed a fault event handler on your request to see what error if any is being returned ?
    David.

    ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
    PHP.INI
    [PHP]
    ; About php.ini ;
; This file controls many aspects of PHP's behavior. In order for PHP to
; read it, it must be named 'php.ini'. PHP looks for it in the current
; working directory, in the path designated by the environment variable
; PHPRC, and in the path that was defined in compile time (in that order).
; Under Windows, the compile-time path is the Windows directory. The
; path in which the php.ini file is looked for can be overridden using
; the -c argument in command line mode.
; The syntax of the file is extremely simple. Whitespace and Lines
; beginning with a semicolon are silently ignored (as you probably guessed).
; Section headers (e.g. [Foo]) are also silently ignored, even though
; they might mean something in the future.
; Directives are specified using the following syntax:
    ; directive = value
; Directive names are case sensitive - foo=bar is different from FOO=bar.
    ; The value can be a string, a number, a PHP constant (e.g. E_ALL or M_PI), one
; of the INI constants (On, Off, True, False, Yes, No and None) or an expression
    ; (e.g. E_ALL & ~E_NOTICE), or a quoted string ("foo").
; Expressions in the INI file are limited to bitwise operators and parentheses:
    ; | bitwise OR
    ; & bitwise AND
    ; ~ bitwise NOT
    ; ! boolean NOT
; Boolean flags can be turned on using the values 1, On, True or Yes.
; They can be turned off using the values 0, Off, False or No.
; An empty string can be denoted by simply not writing anything after the equal
; sign, or by using the None keyword:
; foo = ; sets foo to an empty string
; foo = none ; sets foo to an empty string
; foo = "none" ; sets foo to the string 'none'
; If you use constants in your value, and these constants belong to a
; dynamically loaded extension (either a PHP extension or a Zend extension),
; you may only use these constants after the line that loads the extension.
    ; About this file ;
; This is the recommended, PHP 5-style version of the php.ini-dist file. It
; sets some non standard settings, that make PHP more efficient, more secure,
    ; and encourage cleaner coding.
; The price is that with these settings, PHP may be incompatible with some
; applications, and sometimes, more difficult to develop with. Using this
; file is warmly recommended for production sites. As all of the changes from
; the standard settings are thoroughly documented, you can go over each one,
; and decide whether you want to use it or not.
; For general information about the php.ini file, please consult the php.ini-dist
; file, included in your PHP distribution.
; This file is different from the php.ini-dist file in the fact that it features
; different values for several directives, in order to improve performance, while
; possibly breaking compatibility with the standard out-of-the-box behavior of
; PHP. Please make sure you read what's different, and modify your scripts
; accordingly, if you decide to use this file instead.
    ; - register_long_arrays = Off [Performance]
; Disables registration of the older (and deprecated) long predefined array
; variables ($HTTP__VARS).  Instead, use the superglobals that were
    ; introduced in PHP 4.1.0
    ; - display_errors = Off [Security]
; With this directive set to off, errors that occur during the execution of
; scripts will no longer be displayed as a part of the script output, and thus,
; will no longer be exposed to remote users. With some errors, the error message
; content may expose information about your script, web server, or database
; server that may be exploitable for hacking. Production sites should have this
    ; directive set to off.
    ; - log_errors = On [Security]
; This directive complements the above one. Any errors that occur during the
; execution of your script will be logged (typically, to your server's error log,
; but can be configured in several ways). Along with setting display_errors to off,
; this setup gives you the ability to fully understand what may have gone wrong,
; without exposing any sensitive information to remote users.
    ; - output_buffering = 4096 [Performance]
; Set a 4KB output buffer. Enabling output buffering typically results in less
; writes, and sometimes less packets sent on the wire, which can often lead to
; better performance. The gain this directive actually yields greatly depends
; on which Web server you're working with, and what kind of scripts you're using.
    ; - register_argc_argv = Off [Performance]
; Disables registration of the somewhat redundant $argv and $argc global
    ; variables.
    ; - magic_quotes_gpc = Off [Performance]
; Input data is no longer escaped with slashes so that it can be sent into
; SQL databases without further manipulation. Instead, you should use the
; function addslashes() on each input element you wish to send to a database.
    ; - variables_order = "GPCS" [Performance]
; The environment variables are not hashed into the $_ENV. To access
; environment variables, you can use getenv() instead.
    ; - error_reporting = E_ALL [Code Cleanliness, Security(?)]
; By default, PHP suppresses errors of type E_NOTICE. These error messages
; are emitted for non-critical errors, but that could be a symptom of a bigger
; problem. Most notably, this will cause error messages about the use
; of uninitialized variables to be displayed.
    ; - allow_call_time_pass_reference = Off [Code cleanliness]
; It's not possible to decide to force a variable to be passed by reference
; when calling a function. The PHP 4 style to do this is by making the
; function require the relevant argument by reference.
    ; Language Options ;
; Enable the PHP scripting language engine under Apache.
    engine = On

Does the ext directory have the php_oci8.dll? In the original steps the PHP dir is renamed. In the given php.in the extension_dir looks like it has been updated correctly. Since PHP distributes php_oci8.dll by default I reckon there would be a very good chance that the problem was somewhere else. Since this is an old thread I don't think we'll get much value from speculation.

  • Can't successfully get Apache2, Mysql adn PHP5 installed preoperly.

    Hello All,
For the past month I have been trying to get a webserver up and running on my Solaris 10 server. I want to use Joomla to design and impliment the webpage and I know I need Apache2, Mysql and php5. It seems as if it would be fairly simple ut for some reason I can get apache2 running and MySQL, however, when I try to finish it off with PHP5 I cant get it to work. I can install it successfully with a package install. when that didnt work I read to attempt compiling and installing from source. This fails during the compile. I have tried a few suggestion and procedures all of which have failed. Does anyone know of a work around or a good working procedure for successfully installing this software on a Solaris platform?? Thanks in advance.

I would persevere with PHP packages, posting any issues you find.

  • PHP5, Apache2 & MySQL

I am trying to install PHP5, Apache2 & MySQL5 on my computer so I can do some development/testing using localhost. This is a client machine and not a sever. I downloaded the source files for PHP5 & Apache2 from their official website. I downloaded a packaged installer for MySQL 5. The versions I have are as follows:
    PHP - 5.2.2
    Apache - 2.2.4
    MySQL - 5.0.41
First I installed MySQL from the pacakaged installer, it all worked fine, I have gone to the command line and connected to it, created a table & have mysql administrator so I am confident that it is working 100% correctly.
Next I installed Apache from the source. I followed the instructions on http://www.phpmac.com/articles.php?view=252 I have started up the localhost and have connected to the webserver on my local machine, have gone to http://localhost.... and loaded up a page that I put into the Sites so I am confident that it working 100% correctly.
PHP is where I ran into issues. I compiled it from the source code downloaded from the official php website. I used the instructions on the website listed before, I used the following configuration settings.
    ./configure \
    --prefix=/apache2/php \
    --with-zlib \
    --with-xml \
    --with-ldap=/usr \
    --enable-cli \
    --with-zlib-dir=/usr \
    --enable-exif \
    --enable-ftp \
    --enable-mbstring \
    --enable-mbregex \
    --enable-dbx \
    --enable-sockets \
    --with-iodbc=/usr \
    --with-curl=/usr \
    --with-mysql=/usr/local/mysql \
    --with-apxs2=/apache2/bin/apxs
I ran sudo make and it all seemed to create the makefile correctly. I ran sudo make install and I enconted an error, I can't remeber it exactly but it was saying something about the mysql image file or something.
I then restarted the computer and recompiled the source file using the same instructions on that website except for the line: --with-mysql=/usr/local/mysql \ and it compiled correctly, I ran sudo make install and it installed PHP5 correctly. I made a phpinfo file and put it in the sites folder and it works fine. I made some configuration changes in the php.ini file so I would prefer not to recompile it all from scratch again. I've done it twice so far and it took a few hours.
So my question is: Is there somewhere that I can get the just mysql library modules for php or is there a problem with how I did the source compile that could have caused the issues?
I just need some help getting this final part of it working. If anyone can help I would be very appreciative

What version of Apache are you in fact running? Because if you are using the "Web Sharing" preference panel button to start Apache then you are running Apache 1.3.3, because that button launches the file at
    /usr/sbin/httpd
To properly integrate your new Apache into OSX, you need to take these steps:
Delete or rename the old Apache executable:
    sudo mv /usr/sbin/httpd /usr/sbin/httpd_old
If you use the Sharing Preference Pane at this point, it will actually start Apache2, but it won't come back from grey because it's looking for the PID (Process ID) file to acknowledge the start. So create a link from the new httpd executable to the old location:
    sudo ln -s /path/to/new/httpd /usr/sbin/httpd
I don't know where you installed Apache2 so you will have to fill in your own path. Alternatively, you can copy the file rather than symlink it.
This arrangement allows you to run the old Apache from the Terminal, but the sharing prefpanel launches the new Apache.
Now change the httpd.conf to create it's PID file in the right location. Open up
    /path/to/Apache2/httpd.conf
    and look for the line:
    PidFile logs/httpd.pid
    Change the line to:
    PidFile /private/var/run/httpd.pid
Now Apache2 will know where its process number is located. Use the Sharing Preference Pane and click on "Personal Web Sharing". Apache2 should start up so test it by asking for a bogus page:
    http://127.0.0.1/bogus
The error page should say you are running Apache2.
That may solve your PHP problems.
