APD Execution in SAP BI 7.0

Hi Experts,
We have recreated the APD from BW 3.5 to BI 7.0 manually .
The source of the APD is Query & target is DSO. In BW 3.5 , the APD is executing fine. Whereas in BI 7.0, the APD is not executing and leading to timeout error.
We scheduled the APD in BGD process and the process is going on ON HOLD and after an hour the execution is failing.
We created variant with few plant & year selections which has less data for the query, even then the APD is not executing.
Further to just check the APD execution, i used Flat file as the target and executed in foreground, but same error.
Can anyone tell me what all the system requirements needed for successful execution of APD's and the criteria's to be checked at the system level?

What is error message you are getting, give us the screen shot of the same. Without those details you would not get proper replies to your question.

ODI background execution with SAP

Hi Experts,
Here is my problem. I am connecting ODI with SAP R/3 to extract data from some tables.
In my client configuration on SAP, they have a timeout of 10 minutes and that is a problem when I try to extract data from a big table where the time of processing is more than 10 minutes. Some people tell me that you can execute the ABAP programs in dialog mode or in background mode, and in the second option, you skip this problem.
So, my question is: can I configure the excecution of the ODI ETL in background on SAP? or Can I configure the ABAP program to always execute in background on SAP?

Someone have an idea?

Addon execution failed - SAP 2007a SP01 PL8

Hi
We have just upgraded a customer to 2007a SP01 PL8 and I have an old vb6 addon which gives me an error -
Addon excecution failed
when I run it on the server, it is fine on the workstations
The server is Windows 2003
I have loaded the latest di api and deleted the temp SM_OBS_DLL folder before running SAP
Can anyone suggest anything please ?

Hello Andy,
This can happen when Installation is corrupted.
Check the DTW, and try to load any data (using DI API). If it is fails-> reinstall client (DI API included),
If works, your UI API damaged, reinstall client.

Issue in workbook execution in SAP BI

Hi ,
We have an issue where a user when clicks on a specific workbook ( under favourites in User Menu ) , he gets the error that " You are not authorized to use transaction LAST_SHORTDUMP ". The SU53 shows the access missing for TCODE LAST_SHORTDUMP .
The user is though able to execute the original query directly.
Can someone please throw some light on the issue as it doesn't seem to be an issue with user's authorization.

Hi,
it seems like that query dumps and system tries to display a short dump using transaction LAST_SHORTDUMP. So you can use ST22 to check why that query fails. Check also notes 1435926 and 1523222.

What are the functionalities provided by SAP ECC 6.0 (Logistics Execution) for inward and outward transportation?

The Transportation Module provides a very detailed functionality to capture & control the transportation both inward and outward. However there is a set of transaction codes in SAP ECC 6.0 which may provide some functionality on transportation.
Can Logistics Execution provide some basic control in the absence of Transportation Module? Also what are the advantages Transportation Management module provides over Logistics Execution in SAP ECC 6.0?

For ESS and MSS you do not require special data from the backend side, If a person has master data maintained in PA30, He can see his personal details in ESS, For that employee should maintain the Portal user id in Infotype 0105 , subtyp0001.
With that userid he can able to enter the portal and maintain his details. Same is the case for MSS , Manager should have maintained 0105 subtype 0001. and he can see the details of his employees in MSS application.
For ESS you need to have Portal

APD, filename for file data target

Hello,
i am designing a APD process with a file as process target.
I can hardcode the file path and name in the data target properties, however i would rather set the filename by user input or by a abap routine (eg. include the date of APD execution in the file name). Is that possible?

Hi,
You can use the option 'Logical File Name' option to create a dyanmic file name.
You can define a Logical File Name in tcode 'FILE', where you can append system date, time, varaible to a static file name.

Variable not working with APD

Greetings,
Have the following setup:
- am trying to run a query in apd as a source and output to a local file- want to only extract invoices which were billed the last 7 days
- in query designer, use a restriction for biling date --> use current calendar day(SAP exit) variable to pull the last 7 days which were billed
- when I run the query the report looks fine in analyzer - only pulls the last 7 days
- when I run the apd, every billed dated for a business partner is displayed
Why the variable only works when running the analyzer and not the apd?
Any suggestions is greatly appreciated.

Did you assign the query to the APD first an then added the variable to the query??? In that case, remove the query from the APD and re-assign to it.
or try doing it in the Transformation of APD

SAP TM and Event Management

Hello all,
I am a student of informations systems and currently I am writing my bachelor-thesis about SAP Transportation Management 7.0 and SAP Event Management 7.0 in view of Supply Chain Event Management focused on a Fulfillment-Process. I have a few questions belongs to the practicability of this process with SAP TM 7.0.
Usually you use SAP APO to implement SCM-Fulfillment-Processes. But instead of using SAP ERP LES it is also possible to use SAP TM for Transportation Management especially for Transportation Planning, Execution and Service Provider Selection (Integration between SAP ERP LES and SAP TM e.g. via IDocs), isn't it?
I have got a few experience in customizing SAP TM and SAP EM for a Transportation Execution (FCL) and Tracking Szenario. For this reason, i want to implement e.g. a partial re-planning of the Transportation Execution in SAP TM if there is a variation between planned and actual data (e.g. because of traffic jam).
I don't want to know, how to implement this in SAP TM, I just want to know, if is it reasonable to implement this and the scenario above with SAP TM? Or is it recommend to use SAP APO only?

Hello guys,
currently we are handling some problems with the integration of SAP Event Management and SAP Transportation Management. Both are running on the same system.
The Situation:
I had set up a RFC-Connection between SAP EM and SAP TM. In SAP TM I definied the corresponding settings for EM-Relevance of SRQ. In "Integration with other mySAP.com Components" I defined, the Business Process Types, Application Objects Types and the Event Types.
After creating a SRQ, I got the message, that event tracking for the expected shipment request type is activated. While debbuging I found out, that SAP TM found the corresponding Business Proccess Type and Application Object Type to the Shipment Request Type. SAP TM also found the Event Manager which I defined in "Integration with other mySAP.com Components" --> "Define EM" and got the RFC-Destination.
The Problem is, after creating a SRQ there is no message in the Application Log, like "Event Handler was created successfully". The corresponding tables are empty, too.
Has got anybody an idea? Maybe the configuration of the RFC-Connection is wrong or something else?

SAP Query : Save to file in XLS format in background

Hello everybody,
I used the enhancement SQUE0001 for saving result (an XLS file) of SAP query in background.
I used also the ABAP commands 'OPEN DATASET', 'TRANSFER' and 'CLOSE DATASET' as described in the SAP note 537735.
The execution of SAP query generated multiple columns. But when I go to see my downloaded file (.xls), all generated columns are condensed into 1 !!!
How to save the file (.xls) and keep the separated columns, please?

For saving the file in Excel format in the App server you have to first convert the data in XLS format and then use the transfer statement.
You can either use FM SAP_CONVERT_TO_XLS_FORMAT for that.
OR
Create a comma sepreated file which will open in excel.
open dataset file for output in text mode.
loop at itab.
    concatenate itab-field1 itab-field2 itab-field2 into str
                  separated by ','.
    transfer str to file.
endloop.
close dataset file.

One more Problem with SAP query

Hi All,
I am having a problem with SAP query
Execution of SAP query transaction is leading to Dump
the dump says Field 'R01' contains no fields, syntax check on the program shows same error.
When I tried regenerating the Query in SQ01
" Query Specification cannot be use to generate list
Ranked list contains only numeric fields
Please help me

I am not sure what business process you are describing here - is it some kind of third-party sales order? If so, your join is wrong.
From VB E P, firled BANFN and BNFPO you can go to table EBAN, where in field EBELN you will find the number of the purchase order (if somebody already had an MRP+Me58 run over the PR) which will lead you to table EKKO, and EKPO.
So what we have here (essentially is):
VBAK -> VBAP -> VBEP -> EBAN -> EKKO -> EKPO
But that only solves one of your problems - you still have a long way to go to get invoices, partner and partner roles into there and I am beginning to ask myself what exactly it is you want to evaluate.

   1) How do we find out if a Transactional ODS is populated by an APD Query. Where will this information be mentioned?
   2) If we dont know the name of the APD Query, but we know the transactional ODS, can we find out the APD query name.
   3) Is an APD Query created like a normal query?
   4) If we know the name of the APD Query, then where do we go and check it?

You can chek the APD using Tcode RSANWB. Check your particular APD and dbl click on that you will get all information where it is picking and where the data populating.

Report Execution issues after cube comperssion

Hi Everyone.
We had performance issues with respect to report execution in SAP portal. After the analysis we have realised that the cube is growing in its size and reached 200 million already.
As per SAP suggestion, we had compressed the cube and the reports started running faster than before.
Now, after the release we have realised that some report executions with hierarchy expansion are caused exception in BEX web application.
Below is the error that we receive
When verified the query, we identified that "Active" was set to "Suppress Zeros" query properties and when we modified it is " Active ( All values =0)" it was working fine.
Could not figure out the reason behind this.
Any quick response is much appreciated.

Just wanted to help others on this issue if they face in future.
We are basically in patch 3 and SAP recommended to upgrade the system to patch 10 to solve this issue.
We are still in the process of doing this as it needs approvals, testing etc to be done.
Hope this will be solved after this upgrade and I will post the result in this blog.

-Consulting Notes (use the application component filters in search notes)
-Collective Notes (similar to the one above)
-Release Notes
-Release Restrictions
-If $$ permit subscribe to www.scmexpertonline.com. Good perspective on concepts around SAP SCM.
-There are a couple of blogs (e.g. www.apolemia.com) .. but all lack breadth.. some topics in depth.
-"Articles" section on this site (not all are classified well.. see in ECCops, mfg, SCM, Logistics etc)
-Serivce.sap.com- check the solution details overview in knowledge exchange tab. There are product presentations and collaterals for every release. Good breadth but no depth.
-Building Blocks - available for all application areas. This is limited to vanilla configuration of just making a process work and nothing more than that.
-Get the book "Sales and Operations Planning with SAP APO" by SAP Press. Its got plenty of easy to follow stuff, good perspective and lots of screen shots to make life easier.
-help.sap.com the last thing that most refer after all "handy" options (incl. this forum) are exhausted. Nevertheless, this is the superset of all "secondary" documents. But the maze of hyperlinks that start at APO might lead you to something like xml schema.
Key Tip: Appreciate that SAP SCM is largely driven by connected execution systems (SAP ECC/ERP). So the best place to start with should be a good overview of ERP OPS solution overview, at least at the significant level of depth.). Check this document at sdn wiki "ERP ops architecture overview".
I have some good collection of documents though many i havent read myself. If you need them let me know.

APD creates CSV file as soon as it is executed altough the CSV is last step

Hi,
I have an APD with three steps:
1. read a query
2. remove records with figures = 0
3. generate a CSV file
As soon as the APD is executed the CSV file is generated. However it needs 5 minutes at least to really execute the query (step1 & 2) and fill in the file. The 'Open dataset' statement seems to be executed to soon in the APD execution.
It bothers me as APD is scheduled based on an event. Another Abap program is also scheduled on the same event. This Abap checks regularly the delivery of the file in order to process it. So this Abap runs also too soon and does not process anything as the file is empty...

Hi,
At the time of saving file it will ask file path where to save in work directory , just copy that path & search in AL11 .
Before that make sure :
1. in Data target Tab write data to app server must be selected & in Write mode : check once either creatre file again if already overwrite.
