APD / Open Hub Reports Execution Steps

Hi Friends,
Can anybody let me know how can I execute the APD and Open hub rerports .. and direct it to logical file names...and where do we configure the logical file names being directed to physical directory locations ?

Hi,
For generating a flat file from a Infocube, which process is better among an APD and an Open Hub Destination in terms of both performance and handling large volume of data

OPen hub destination is anew feature in BI 7.o . i don't think it will affect any performance issues.
If get the requirement i will use open hub destination instaed of APD as Open hub is eaiset way with simple steps.
APD is more for analysis of two queries or sending data to external systems. we used APD for sending data to EDI clients

Hi,
Go to ---> tcode RSBO,
          --->In the main menu of the Administrator Workbench, choose:
               Tools _ Open Hub Service
               Enter a technical name for your InfoSpoke.
          --->Give your target,
          --->give the source and execute.

Open Hub and Reporting

In Open Hub we send the data from Data Target to the Excel Sheet and in reporting also we generate the report in excel sheet.what is the difference between the two.

It is the open hub service that enables you to distribute data from an SAP BW system into external data marts, analytical applications, and other applications. With this, you can ensure controlled distribution using several systems. The central object for the export of data is the InfoSpoke, whereas, when you execute report you get the output in Excel but you cannot make any changes to the data but it can be used to analyze.

Reports using Open Hub

All - We are currenlty using Bex and some of the reports that the users will be generating will exceed excel limit of 65k rows. I had suggested using web reports, but when the users run large reports they are timing out. The basis team changed the time out settings multiple times but they have been of no use. It is critical that the users are able to run these reports or atleast have them run by a BW team member. Is it possible to use open hub to run reports?

You can download the data of your data target into CSV (or other forms) using open hub.. this will be just a flat structure with the dump of all records for the specified selection...
In your case report may be timing out on web coz of user inactivity (idle)/ dialog time..ask your basis team to check that param..(sorry i could not remember the exact param name)

Open hub error when generating file in application server

Hi, everyone.
I'm trying to execute an open hub destination that save the result as a file in the application server.
The issue is: in production environment we have two application servers, XYZ is the database server, and A01 is the application server. When I direct the open hub to save file in A01 all is working fine. But when I change to save to XYZ I´m getting the following error:
>>> Exception in Substep Start Update...
Message detail: Could not open file "path and file" on application server
Message no. RSBO214
When I use transaction AL11, I can see the file there in XYZ filesystem (with data and time correspondent to execution), but I can´t view the content and size looks like be zero.
Possible causes I already checked: authorization, disk space, SM21 logs.
We are in SAP BW 7.31 support package 6.
Any idea what could be the issue or where to look better?

Hi, there.
Posting the resolution for this issue.
SAP support give directions that solved the problem. No matter in which server (XYZ or A01) I logon or start a process chains, the DTP job always runs in A01 server, and it causes an error since the directory doesn´t exist in server XYZ.
This occurs because DTP settings for background job was left blank. I follows these steps to solve the problem:
- open DTP
- go to "Settings for Batch Manager"
- in "Server/Host/Group on Which Additional Processes Should Run" I picked the desired server
- save
After that, no matter from where I start the open hub extraction, it always runs in specified server and saves the file accordingly.

SAP BI 7.0 to SAP PI to FTP and with Open Hub Destination ...Help!!!!

Dear SCN Experts,
I am currently working on scenario where I have a requirement to push data from SAP BI 7.0 to SAP PI 7.
And I am using Client proxy for SAP BI to send the data from BI tables to SAP PI and then to write to FTP address.
Now the challenge I am facing is the ABAP Proxy how to use it with Process Chain and also I am having Open hub destination created for the same.(Specifically with the new version i.e. 7.0)
Can you atleast make me understand what are the steps involved in this for Client Proxy, Process Chaing, How will proxy trigger and other regarding the same.
I have searched SDN but got the document having older versions in it. Which doesn't serve the purpose.

I know that we can run the scheduled report for the proxy to fetch the report. But the client requirement is to use process chain, Open hub destination which fetches data from the ODS to Ztable created.
We need to fetch that data from the table via our proxy. I am familiar with that report related method.
I have one document using the same method but is using Infospoke(which is now obsolete) so have to OHD and also some of the proxy of XI's older version. So is not helping me out.
Please do the needful. Or can you send me some sample scenario like this with screen shots. It will be a great help.

Info spoke /Open Hub

Hi Friends
I need to extract few fields to a flat file(excel).that file needs to be up loaded to APO DP .
The issue i am facing is data belongs to 3 infocubes. 2 are transactional and one is basic. so i cant use open hub which supports only for 1 cube/ods at a time.
I created a Multi cube on top of the 3 cubes and tried to extract the data using RSCRM_BAPI by creating a report on the multiprovider.
But i am facing issues as
1) Multi provider has TYPE which is not supported.
2 ) one more is my report conatins the STRUCTURE elements. the out put in RSCRM_BAPI is not displaying the structure elements.
please help with some solution to this.

Hi Praveen,
If you are on BW 3.5 then You can use APD to write the data you want into a transactional ODS and then create an export datasource on that ODS and use in APO.
You can schedule this at whatever time you want.
However APD is not supported in process chains in 3.5 but it is supported in BI 7.0 I guess.

Open Hub 3rd Party - Process Chain Automation

Hi,
I have a requirement to fulfill the Open Hub extraction to 3rd party SQL Server DB using process chain automation.
There are at times no deltas and during the execution of DTP since there are no delta's the request status shows GREEN but overall status as YELLOW because there are no new records.
Until we clear this request to GREEN, we cant trigger the next load. I am doing these steps manually by going to tables/ FM's to change the status.
I am looking for options for automation in process chain can someone help me on this request. Appreciate your help!

Do you know when the delta will being zero records? Also when you say the overall status is yellow which status are you talking about?
You can always use a ABAP program in your PC which will check for the latest request ID has records and turn the the status green so that dependent data triggers are sent

Open Hub: How-to doc "How to Extract data with Open Hub to a Logical File"

Hi all,
We are using open hub to download transaction files from infocubes to application server, and would like to have filename which is dynamic based period and year, i.e. period and year of the transaction data to be downloaded.
I understand we could use logical file for this purpose. However we are not sure how to have the period and year to be dynamically derived in filename.
I have read in sdn a number of posted messages on a similar topic and many have suggested a 'How-to' paper titled "How to Extract data with Open Hub to a Logical Filename". However i could not seem to be able to get document from the link given.
Just wonder if anyone has the correct or latest link to the document, or would appreciate if you could share the document with all in sdn if you have a copy.

After creating open hub press F1 in Application server file name text box from the help window there u Click on Maintain 'Client independent file names and file paths' then u will be taken to the Implementation guide screen > click on Cross client maintanance of file name > create a logical file path by clicking on new entiries > after creating logical file path now go to Logical file name definition there give your Logical file , name , physical file (ur file name followed by month or year what ever is applicable (press f1 for more info)) , data format (ASC) , application area (BW) and logical path (choose from F4 selection which u have created first), now goto Assignment of physical path to logical path > give syntax group >physical path is the path u gave at logical file name definition.
however we have created a logical path file name to identify the file by sys date but ur requirement seems to be of dynamic date of tranaction data...may u can achieve this by creating a variable. U can see the help from F1 that would be of much help to u. All the above steps i have explained will help u create a dynamic logical file.

Problem connection to database when opening Crystal Report in VB6 app

Hi all, first post, so be gentle!
I've developed a simple app and database using VB6 and SQL Server 2005 and is seems to be working well when i test it.
Problem i have is after i installed the app on another PC. When the user tries to open the report they get an error when the report tries to connect to the database. It appears the report is trying to connect to the SQL Server using the user's AD account details, yet i set the report up with a trusted connection. I created a replica ODBC connection (as used by me when designing the report) on the users PC to see if that was what was missing. THis was set up to use the generic SQL Server logon details. Unfortubately the report is still trying to connect with the user's AD details.
I had a bash at creating the VB commands to set the connection settings, but i couldn't get this to work.
If anyone can help point me in the right direction or show me the correct code/steps to get th connection details correct, i'd be very grateful.

Open Hub Destination error

Hi,
I am working on Open Hub (first time ofcourse). And performing following steps:-
Modeling>Open Hub> InfoArea> Create Open Hub Destination> Output to File .csv. field names>DIrectory> activate> Create transformation> activate Transformations>Create DTP..Here I am getting an error that destination Open Hub is not active.
Can anyone please tell me am i missing any step here?

Hi...
Always bear in mind that the OHD, once created, should be saved and activated, before creating any transformations or DTPs for it.
And each time the OHD is changed, all the objects corresponding to it... (The transformations and the DTPs) should be activated.

Print open office report

Hi,
I would like to print an Open Office report but I have a problem. I found a prototype of an Open Office that I modified. It is working but I have a problem when I want to print a report. An error occurs
Error -2146827850 Exception occured in OOCALCVB: L'objet ne gère pas cette propriété ou cette méthode dans MES ODS Print.vi->test vis.vi (The object don't manage this property or this method)
Is there something I can do to fix it?

Open Hub in BW 3.1

Hi,
Can someone please clarify me about open hub steps in SAP BW version 3.1. I no more have access to 3.1 system as of now but has to put my views for a new development strategy. I am not sure whether it had something like InfoSpoke what we use in version 3.5 (I worked in 3.5 too).
Also if you can throw some light on its licensing then it would be great. I am not sure license would be required or not when customer uses open hub to extract data from SAP BW 3.1 InfoProvide.

How to schedule macros to open a report , refresh and update database?

Hi,
We have the below set of steps that work on a deski environment. It works fine on XI R3.1 Fix pack 1.5, but I am unable to schedule and get the macros to run although i've included the entire macros code in - Private Sub DocumentAfterRefresh()
Refresh of report
Step 1 : Report is Refreshed. Refreshed data contains 10 Report Names to be opened by the Macros and the prompt values that these reports need to be refreshed with.
Macros Functionality:
Step 1 : Opens 1st report of the 10 reports from the repository in deski thick client, updates the database by setting a flag on the processing to Y or N for the report being processed.
Step 2 : Refreshes the report with the prompt values obtained from the first refresh in the report, saves the refreshed data to a CSV or PDF at a location.
Step 3 : Updates the database if the report has been genrated or not and then deletes the local copy of the output csv and pdf.
The above steps repeat over and over again until all 10 reports open up, get refreshed and update the database.
Now all of this works on Deski thick client/refresh and macros.
However, when i schedule it, the macros doesnot seem to be running.
Is the above scenario even possible to replicate via a schedule process..?
Note : The reports need to be retained in Deski itself.

Scheduling Background Jobs
Use
You can define and schedule background jobs in two ways from the Job Overview:
Directly from Transaction SM36. This is best for users already familiar with background job scheduling.
The Job Scheduling Wizard. This is best for users unfamiliar with SAP background job scheduling. To use the Job Wizard, start from Transaction SM36, and either select Goto ® Wizard version or simply use the Job Wizard button.
Procedure
Call Transaction SM36 or choose CCMS ® Jobs ® Definition .
Assign a job name. Decide on a name for the job you are defining and enter it in the Job Name field.
Set the jobs priority, or "Job Class":
High priority: Class A
Medium priority: Class B
Low priority: Class C
In the Target server field, indicate whether to use system load balancing.
For the system to use system load balancing to automatically select the most efficient application server to use at the moment, leave this field empty.
To use a particular application server to run the job, enter a specific target server.
If spool requests generated by this job are to be sent to someone as email, specify the email address. Choose the Spool list recipient button.
Define when the job is to start by choosing Start Condition and completing the appropriate selections. If the job is to repeat, or be periodic, check the box at the bottom of this screen.
Define the jobs steps by choosing Step, then specify the ABAP program, external command, or external program to be used for each step.
Save the fully defined job to submit it to the background processing system.
When you need to modify, reschedule, or otherwise manipulate a job after you've scheduled it the first time, you'll manage jobs from the Job Overview.
Note: Release the job so that it can run. No job, even those scheduled for immediate processing, can run without first being released.
