APD Qeury Design with Variables

Hi Guru's,
Can somebody please help me, in understanding the query design when we are using it as a source to apd. I have a scenario where i do some transformation using abap and then send the output to a pc file. However, i have huge data in the underlined multiprovider of a query( say 20 million) and the query is getting timed out.
The only way is to have query variables to be able to restrict the data. When I do that, the APD is not supporting. Did somebody came across these scenario's.
Any ideas will be highly appreciated.

Hello,
as far as I know you are not able to use variables which require any user entry. Only if you work with variants this would be possible.
So i think you need to run you APD several times either with different queries or the same query but different variants for the variables and restrict the number of data records with the variables.

Hi!
When testing the report designer, we have found an issue - its not possible to embedding queries with variables.

that suggest a solution to the issue.
My question is simply, does anyone know if this is a temporary fix, or is this a constraint that is not planned to be fixed by SAP? The note is a bit ambiguous.

Hello,
Queries with variables are still in restrictions for Report Designer.
You can use this work-arond creating Query View and fill up the variables. This allows you to define a Report in RD. Then, use Web Appication Designer to include your Report into Web Application and replace the Query View with your initial Query.
For the integration do following:
1. Create new Web Template in WAD
2. Drag-and-drop Web Item "Report"
3. Go to Property Window in WAD and search for "REPORT" (description Report Design) parameter in Web Items Parameters
4. Use the button on the right side of the parameter to open Report Designer and choose your Report in it.
5. You should see that new Data Provider was created in WAD -> Open it and set it to your initial Query.
5. Save you Web Template and execute in the browser.

Error in Looping with variable

Please help me. i want to loop of record. i have two scheme. First, i make without variable and not error. Second, i make with variable and error occurs. as below my syntax:

A cursor fetch loop is not the ideal processing structure.
It is slow. It requires data to travel from the buffer cache of the database into PL/SQL variables (in the PGA). It requires context switching between the PL/SQL and SQL engines.
It does not scale. More rows means more data to travel that path from the SQL engine to the PL/SQL engine. More loop iterations in PL/SQL. If a single loop iteration (for processing a row) is 1ms, then a 100,000 rows will take a 100 seconds. 200,000 rows 200 seconds. Etc. This clearly does not scale with an increase in data volume.
Also keep in mind that DBMS_OUTPUT does not write to screen or display anything. It is incapable of accessing a client device as it executes inside a server process. When the database call is done, the client (e.g. TOAD or SQL*Plus) can read those lines from the database and the client can display it.
So if your loop is for a 1000 rows, it means writing a 1000 lines of text into very expensive server memory - and then expecting the client to read that afterwards and display it. Why? This is not a standard client-server method. It also does not scale. It can actually crash the server when this method is abused.
The standard method would be to create a SQL cursor using PL/SQL code, and then return a reference handle (pointer) to the client. This allows the client the ability to fetch data directly from the cursor - in an optimal way that does not consume expensive server memory.I have to say it: I sincerely appreciate you taking the time to write this whenever it needs to be written rather than just giving up and letting people stumble along with bad design - it must take a lot of mental stamina to keep doing it. One day it will sink into my head also :-)

I am having the same problem:
I am designing a report in Crystal Reports XI Developer that contains parameters, which are passed to a stored procedure and are also used within formulas ( in Crystal Syntax ie. {?FORMAT_ID} ) in the report itself.
I can run the report successfully in CRXI Developer. The formulas use the correct values from the parameters entered during execution and everything looks good.
I then deploy the report to Business Objects Enterprise XI. I do all of the things necessary to manage the report including setting up the proper database connection information and default parameter values.
When I run the report using the Crystal Report Viewer, I get the following error message:
Error in File Forecasting.rpt:
Error in formula <Report Format>.
'if (not isNull({?FORMAT_ID} ) ) then
This field name is not known.
Details: errorKind
This happens when I press the "Preview" button in the Manage Object dialog from Crystal or when I run the report using InfoView.
I have changed the formulas and it doesn't seem to matter what the specific content of the formula is; other than the existence of a parameter reference in the formula. If I comment out the parameter and replace it with a hard-coded value, it gets through the formula fine.
Does Business Objects Enterprise XI support crystal reports with parameter references in the formulas?

Error in APD if we used variables 0fiscper.

In APD if I give filter condition on OFISCPER with Offset -1 I am getting error . If i remove variable from both Query and APD no error is coming.
But if I give varibles in any area either query or apd I am gettng error 0FISCPER is not replaceable .
Please suggest.

Kindly check your variable in Query, create a new variable and try executing it again with offset -1. May be this is the issue with variable at query level itself.

APD using Query with multiple structures as a data source

All,
I want to set up an automatic process which executes a query and exports it to a shared drive as a csv file. I have tried various options , when I try to use APD to set up the extract, I get an error and this is because the query that I am trying to use has Strucutres in both rows and columns. Hence, I am unable to use this option. I tried RSCRM_BAPI, It works well, but there is an issue with scheduling this in Process chain. I created an event and scheduled this as a job to trigger after "event" as per SAP instructions, but the job does not exist and it is not possible to trigger it through the Process chain unless the variables are hard coded in the query which I do not want to do.
Can any one tell me if there is a way to deal with APD using Query with multiple structures?
Would really appreciate if some one can give me the right solution...

APD is an option but its not very good with large amount of data or hiearachies or if you have attributes in you query structure .
One more option for this requirement is use of report program using function module RRW3_GET_QUERY_VIEW_DATA .
This will work fine with multiple structure etc .
There are some overheads with this FM ex: if amount of data is too much then program will give dump .Solution for that is we call the FM in LOOP by diving amount of data need to be fetched .ex: we can read data quarter wise.
For using this function module what you can do is write an ABAP program (At SE38 ) .which will call this FM and then write the output into a flat file which you can save at application server (AL11) .From there other system can read it .
To automate this whole process you can further add all the report programs into a process chain (RSPC) which can be schedule as per requirement .
To pass input parameters you can use variants that will pass the values to the report .

Master-detail reports with variable number of pages in a big report

I am designing with Reports 6.0.5.32.0 a master-detail report such as a
combination between a customer with his name, address etc, at the top of
the page (always 60% of the first page) and then as details lines with his orders.
For one customer seems relatively OK with the variable number of pages in accordance with the number of his orders.
When the main query finds more customers I present always the customer at the top of
a new page (that's easy), but how can I control the number of the next pages for the orders, variable for every customer.
I can not predict how many pages are necessary for a customer and white pages are
not desirable. When the number of Max. Vertical Body Pages is too low I can get the next pages for every customer, but appears an
uncontrollable shift to the left.
For instance, a customer with 40 orders needs 3 pages, one with 4 orders only 1 page, one with 15 orders 2 pages, etc.
What's the magic property for a secure and precise layout?

Hierarchy authorization with variables of type exit

I am trying to implement hierarchy based authorizations with variables. After collecting information from the SAP documentation and this forum, I think I know more or less how to do it, but it's not working and it has me very confused.
These are the steps I have followed:
- From RSSM, I have created a hierarchy authorization object including my characteristic and 0TCTAUTHH
- From RSSM again, I have created a hierarchy authorization pointing to the node $ZG_V_008
- From the Query designer, I have created a hierarchy node variable of processing type customer exit ZG_V_008 (are any special settings needed here?)
- From the Query designer, I have created <b>another</b> hierarchy node variable of processing type authorization, and I have used this variable to restrict the hierarchy for my characteristic
- I have edited the EXIT_SAPLRRS0_001 to watch for I_STEP = 0 and give values to ZG_V_008 (we'll get to my code later in case we solve this issue first
It is my understanding that with this setup, the user exit will be called to process the value of ZG_V_008 in I_STEP = 0, however, when debugging, I don't see any calls for the function with I_STEP = 0.
What have I done wrong?

Thanks, Jimmy, but that does not help much: my problem is that my user exit is not evaluated with I_STEP=0, but there are no error messages or anything like that.
I have created a test user <b>without</b> a developer role to see if that could have any impact, but it's still not working.

Calling an SWF with variables

Is there a way to call an swf with variables, like we do
dynamic web pages? Like this example:
somedomain.com/some.swf?var1=whatever&var2=somethingelse
I am trying to make a starting point for about 30 swfs and
wanted a single logo starter for them all without having to include
it in all the rest of the files. I wanted to call it, with 2
variables, one just plain text to be displayed at the bottom right
above a button, and the other was the filename of the next swf to
load. I am doing this in a learning environment and the logo intro
was to be used for all the lessons.

Since my initial posting, I have made good progress and have managed to split out my scripts so that one master-script calls the others passing various parameters. That's a great help.
However, I have now come up against a problem which I am finding difficult to solve:
In my main script I need to calculate the dates for each calling of the sub-scripts. I have experimented and have come up with several variations of date formatting. For example:
TO_DATE('01.' || TO_CHAR(ADD_MONTHS(SYSDATE,-1), 'MM.YYYY'))
I have tested the date formatting in a little test table to prove that the process runs correctly (i.e. valid dates are produced) and now I would like to move this syntax to my SQL*PLUS scripts to pass the dates as parameters to my other scripts.
First I tried:
PARAMETER xStartDate = TO_DATE('01.' || TO_CHAR(ADD_MONTHS(SYSDATE,-1), 'MM.YYYY'))
&xStartDate
... but this didn't work as the processor interpreted the literal string.
Next I tried:
VARIABLE xStartDate1 DATE
BEGIN
:xStartDate1:=TO_DATE('01.' || TO_CHAR(ADD_MONTHS(SYSDATE,-1), 'MM.YYYY'))
END
:xStartDate
... but here too the literal value was passed.
Can anyone help me with this? I need to set and change parameters/variables as my SQL*PLUS script is executed and then send these to other scripts.
Or maybe I should first write the values (in this case Start- and End- Dates) to a table and then read the table and use the retrieved values to pass as arguments to the other scripts? Is this possible? Can it be done easily?
Or maybe SQL*PLUS isn't designed for this (i.e. dynamic variables) and I should instead be using PL/SQL?
I hope this isn't another false alarm (I don't believe it is) and am sure that you guys will be able to point me in the right direction.

Dynamic target directory with variable substitution

Hi everyone.
I'm trying to save a file in a folder with receiver adapter.
This folder is determined in runtime and passed to the adapter with variable substitution. My problem is that in RWB i get a error like this : 'Content of variable XXXXX is not safe'
Does anybody have done a variable substituion for output directory receiver file adapter?

Issue with Variable Personalisation in Bex Report

Hi Gurus,
I'm facing a typical problem with Variable presonalisation in the Report.
I've executed a BEX Report and filtered data on some characteristics and used SAVE AS Button on the Portal to save the resultset. When I'm trying to use the variants, again say after 2 or 3 days i couldn't find updated data for particular variants upon using the same variants rather its refelecting the old data. Further more when I execute the report and try filtering on the same criteria altogether, I'm able to see updated result set.
Is there any setting to be enabled when we personalise variants or variants are dependent on the data or the date on which they are created. Not sure why the reports are behaving this way. Or Do I need to create variants time and again.
Any pointers would be of great help.

Hello,
In the BEx report, when you get the variable selection screen there input your selection and at the bottom you have the option of saving them as a variant.
Now in future when you run the report simply use this variant and execute the report. It should work fine.
Also remember date selection can be tricky. If you input todays date in the variant, it wil consider the same date in further references. So do a check on that too.

How do I create an interactive PDF file with variable data

We would like to basically do a 'mail merge' of our list of customers with an interactive PDF file (including videos, menus, etc - not just form fill out and web links) to create a single PDF file that contains multiple mail pieces ... one for each customer ... with each mail piece being customized for that customer. Customizations would include different greetings (Dear Bob, Dear Dana, etc), as well as different charts based on data unique to the customer, different photographs, etc.
I've seen that InDesign and Acrobat Professional can be used to create an interactive PDF (such as from http://tv.adobe.com/watch/ask-the-adobe-ones/14-calling-rufus-about-interactive-pdf-making). However I don't understand how I can insert data from a database, csv file, excel file etc into the PDF file so that each page, or each set of pages, within the PDF can be customized.
Can anyone point me to a tool to use for this?

Dual-DMVPN Design with Dual Hubs on a single router ??

In DMVPN, in Dual-DMVPN Design with Dual Hubs , can a single router perform the role of dual hubs.
The router has two different internet links. It is intended that when one link goes down, spokes shud connect to the same router onto the other active internet connection. Is this possible ?

Since no one has answered yet, I'll give you the practical answer.
You'll have issues with IPSec and static routing. "DMVPN" itself probably wouldn't have an issue, but it would depend on IPSec and routing to work.
It is easier, by far, to put in a second router. And when you factor in your time to try to make it work (and it may not work), the second router is less expensive.

1) Replace with query
2) Replace with variable.
Now, when we use "Replace with variable" we give the variable name. Then we get a list for "Replace with" as follows:

2) External Characteristic Value Key
3)Label
4)Attribute value.
I need detailed explanation for the above mentioned 4 options with scenarios.
