APE drops internet when computer shutdown/sleep

I currently have 2 Macs and 1 PC all connected wirelessly to APE (n mdoel), which is hooked to a DSL modem.
The problem is whenever one of the machine shutdown or go to sleep, APE would drop the internet connection and it would start the amber blinking light. The AirPort Utility then also complains that it has lost the internet connection. After a minute or so, it would reconnect the DSL by itself and everything is normal until another machine shutdown/sleep again.
Anyone know what's going? It's really annoying to get disconnected like this! Thanks

Try creating a new Location under System Preferences->Network and then switching to that location and using it ? It has worked for some folks in the other threads.
Also stick to using WPA2-Personal only. If you have VMWare etc., try disabling it and see if it works.

  • *No Internet When Waking From Sleep!*

    Hey everyone,
I have been having this problem for about 6 months now. When I put my computer to sleep, or it goes to sleep on its own and I wake it up, I can't access the internet. When I look at my network settings, it says I am connected to Ethernet and the green light is on. In order to access the internet, I have to unplug the Ethernet cable from the back of the computer, wait 10-15 seconds, and plug it back in. After that it will usually work. My cord has been tested, and has had new plug-in ends installed.
I am currently attending College and live on-campus; this problem only happens here, but it never happened when I had my older iMac G5 here, in the same room.
Help Please! I will be forever grateful to you!

Finally! Someone replied! haha. Okay, I'm a little confused about the instructions to reset the SMC. Apple says to shut down your computer, unplug all cables, wait 15 seconds, plug the mouse and keyboard back in and start your computer? That is it? Is it the fact that you only have the keyboard and mouse plugged in when you start the computer and nothing else? If that is the case, I reset the SMC almost every weekend when I bring my computer back and forth from home to school. I must be missing something here. I will look up how to reset the PRAM though.

  • Battery on iBook G4 running down when computer shutdown??

The battery on my 2004 iBook G4 runs down even when computer is shut down. I have looked at the
energy preference but can't figure out what is triggering the computer back on to do this. There is
nothing in preferences set to turn the computer on.

First you say that the battery runs down while the computer is shut down.
Then you say that the computer comes back on.
Which is it? Does the computer start up all by itself?
Have you tried resetting the PMU? The PMU (Power Management Unit) has control over both the sleep and charging functions, so resetting it may help.

The current fix is to turn off sleep mode or use an Ethernet cable.

  • Airport connection dropping off when computer sleeps

Starting with the latest 10.4.8 update my airport connection drops when the computer goes to sleep. No amount of configuring will get the computer to recognize my airport. Turning off the power to the airport, waiting, and re-connecting does no good. The only way to get wireless is to restart. Once restarted the airport connection is re-established without any configuration and continues to be fine until the computer goes to sleep. Hard wiring ethernet works at all times without problems.

    thanks,
i read the doc, looked in the system prefs where my re-connect was set to "preferred" and there was only one wpa network listed. i deleted it from the list then re-added per the apple document. will see if this works.
in my own mind i don't think this is the solution but am keeping an open mind. the weird thing about my situation is that after the computer sleeps there are no available networks under the airport menu. i know in fact there are 4-6 in my area. after restarting the 4-6, including mine, networks are all there and my network has been connected to.

  • Dropping signal when computer sleeps

I am having trouble with the wireless network dropping off every time the computer sleeps. Each time my iMac sleeps from inactivity when I start it up again I get a disconnect message and have to go through diagnostics to get the airport extreme to run again and then everything is fine.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks, Eric

I have the same problem with my MacBook Pro. Even using signals in my Preferred Networks list after it sleeps it drops the connection and a re-start is the only way around the problem.
    Any advice appreciated.

  • Losing connection to wireless internet when computer goes to sleep

I have a Macbook, with OS 10.5.6. I connect to internet via airport connected to internet via belkin router. When I close my macbook to put it to sleep i keep losing the connection to the internet. The airport is connected, its only the internet connection that is lost.the only way round this is to restart the airport or belkin router, when the connection is restored. does anyone know a solution to this problem?

Similar symptoms here. Fortunately my MBP "recovers". When I made some experiments with VPNs yesterday, I noticed, when switching the network environment, that the computer is requesting a new IP address. Maybe this will also happen when the Mac wakes up? And maybe the router doesn't respond properly? I would try to set a fixed IP and see what happens then.

  • MBP 13in drops wifi when computer goes to sleep, I have to restart the computer to reconnect. Help?

I recently did the Lion update on my MBP.  Since then my computer will drop wifi connection everytime the computer goes to sleep.  It will not let me log on network saying invailed password.  I have to restart the computer and then it connects automatically.  This is NOT a router problem. Skip any and all advice about routers.  I have 4 other Apple products all connected to wifi perfectly.  This is a MBP issue.  Please help.

On the MBP, go to /Library/Preferences/System Configuration
Move all the files in the System Configuration folder to the Trash.
    Restart the Mac.
It will not let me log on network saying invailed password
Just in case, open Keychain Access located in /Applications/Utilities
    Select Passwords on the left.
Use the search field top right corner of the window to locate your network keychain.
Now right or control click the keychain then click Get Info then select the Attributes tab.
    Click: Show password
    Make sure it's correct.
    And launch AirPort Utility  /Applications/Utilities
Select the connection on the left the click Manual Setup.
Select AirPort from the menu then select the Wireless tab.
Make sure the password is available there then click Update.

  • Not connected to Internet when waking from sleep

Lately when my 13" MBA wakes from sleep, I get "you are not connected to the Internet" in Safari/FF, but other apps such as Skype stay connected.  The only recourse is a reboot.  Is there a fix?

Maybe reset the SMC and PRAM

  • 85W Power supply buzzing when computer in sleep?

    Hi all,
I just received my Early 2011 15" MBP 2.0 last week and I have noticed that the power supply emits a high-pitched buzzing/whining noise when the laptop is in sleep mode and the battery is full.
I took it into an Apple Store today and they couldn't recreate the buzzing, as I think the computer's battery wasn't full.  The guy at the Genius Bar said it was probably dirty AC power.  Does this make sense?  Has anyone else had this symptom?  Thanks.

    Hi k,
I believe that's possible. One way to check it out is to try and recreate it at another location. If you cannot, that would lean toward the "dirty power" side. If you can, then the second location would also have to have the same issue, which is certainly possible, but not probable. At that point, I'd go back to the Apple Store and see if the issue can be demonstrated on the Apple Store's power.

  • Why can't I disconnect backup drive when computer is sleeping?

Often I would like to just grab my sleeping MacBook Pro and go. But if I unplug the USB backup drive, the system always scolds me that the drive was not put away properly and I may have lost data. The alternative is to wake the system up, put away the drive, unplug the drive, put the system back to sleep, and finally go.
Annoying and, I think, totally unnecessary. Surely OS X is smart enough to flush any pending writes to the hard drive when it's entering Sleep mode. So in reality, there's no possibility of losing data, and no reason to scold the user, right?
Why can't Apple make this simple fix? It's been this way for a LONG time.

    Hi,
Me thinks you ask just too much from an operating system. It is built this way so that if you are still using an external device, without actually realising the fact at the time of disconnection, it ( the computer ) prompts you as such.
Imagine the posts that would appear if this were not the case?
" I unplugged a drive and now the cat has exploded, the house next door is on fire and aliens are now running around in the local park - Apple are you listening?????? "
    Regards.
    Ian.

  • Keep dropping wifi when waking from sleep

    Please can anyone help

Your issue could be with your modem, router, channel settings of the router or even the DNS settings.
Where I'd start is resetting your DNS settings. If you are not familiar with what the DNS is and how can have the symptoms you're descibing please read CNET's DNS Article and Macworld's DNS Troubleshooting article. Then reset your settings by following:
    1. System preferences
    2. Network
    3. Click Advanced
    4. Click DNS tab
    5. Click + sign
    6. Add 208.67.222.222
    7. Click + sign
    8. Add 208.67.220.220
    9. Click OK.
    10. Exit System Preferences

  • Dropping internet when I get a call on my vonage telephone system

Every time I get or make a call through my voip (vonage) I lose my wireless connection..I have a wrt150n router. I use a corless phone with my vonage system. Is there any way to stop this from happening?

First of all, if possible, temporarily replace the wireless phone with a wired phone.  And unplug the wireless phone from the electric.  If this corrects your problem, then you are simply having interference between the wireless phone and the router because they are both using the 2.4 GHz band.
There are 11 channels in the 2.4 GHz band, and the channels overlap one another.  If you can get the phone and router set far enough apart (preferably at least 5 channels apart), then the interference should stop.
Your router can be set to any channel, so check the specs on the phone.  Try to determine what channel it is using, and what other channels you can set it to.   Set the phone to a channel, then set the router to a different channel, preferably at least 5 channels apart.  The router usually works best on channel 1, 6, or 11.
Some 2.4 GHz phones are incompatible with wireless routers.  If you cannot find a satisfactory set of channels to use, then replace the phone with a 5+ GHz phone.  If you do this, be sure to read the specs carefully because some 5+ GHz phones use the 2.4 GHz band also.  Many 5+ GHz phones are marked "Wi-Fi Friendly" or carry similar designations  --  look for this when you shop.

  • I'm stumped on this one. WRT110 drops Internet connectivity with Windows 7.

I've had my router for a good 4 years now. I have Time Warner RoadRunner for my ISP. Running Windows 7 on my laptop, and have several devices connected at different times via wireless.
I was having Internet dropouts multiple times per day. Powering down the router for about 10 seconds fixed it until the next one. I figured the router was dying, so I bought a new one. Had the exact same issues, so I returned the router and kept the WRT110. Next step was to swap out my cable modem. I got the newest one they had (which is a Cisco). This still did not fix the problem. So I put up with it. FYI - this is not a modem issue. Many times I have checked to make sure I have Internet connectivity via a direct connect to the modem, and it has always had a steady Internet connection, even when the router has dropped Internet.
Then one day my hard drive crashed on my laptop. I decided to throw Ubuntu on my new hard drive. I ran it for a month or more, and I noticed that the Internet dropouts almost completely went away. I didn't have to get up and reset the router every hour or two. Well after getting a bit tired of Ubuntu, I re-installed Windows 7, and now the dropouts are back, and more annoying than ever.
The only thing I can come up with is the wireless driver Windows is using is somehow affecting the router in the way it and the wireless adapter are talking. It seems to only drop Internet when I'm using the laptop. Even if I just have the laptop powered on, and I am trying to watch Netflix on my TV, or browse apps on my tablet, I will lose Internet.
Anybody have any suggestions? (I just lost Internet again while typing this, and I just reset it 15 minutes ago)

I suggest you to play around with the wireless settings on the router, Like changing the wireless name , channel and the type of wireless security.

Also, you check the firmware of the router by going to the status tab on  the interface.
Website you can check to download it.

  • Why am I receiving a notice to update my version and then not able to click on it? It also prevents me from entering the internet if I put my computer to sleep with this update box there!

The box appears after I'm on the internet. It's on my desktop when I go to shut down my computer and after I've shut down the internet. When I click on the x it doesn't disappear. When I click on the box indicating Yes, I'd like to update my version of Firefox it does nothing. If I leave this box there and put my computer to sleep it stays on and actually prevents me from entering the internet! I need to restart my computer or shut down! My computer is a MacBook Pro and is only one year old .

They have to know who the person is who has their account set up wrong?   Do you know who they are or how to identify them?
if not, how do you expect Verizon to find which user that is?
Best thing for you to do is set up a mail filter and just throw those into the trash or delete them the second they come into your email box.
