Aperature, Final Cut Studio as 'universal'.....??

On the 90 minute long MacWorld presentation I watched, it said that the new Intel Core Duo G5's will have programs such as Aperature and Final Cut Studio as 'universal'. What exactly does this mean? Do they mean that these programs will come free when you order your new mac? And how come they aren't doing that right now?

Hi,
Don't know which presentation you have watched, but I believe you are mixing up a few things :
1. Intel Core Duo Mac G5 does not exist (it is either Core Duo (Intel) or it is PowerPC (G5 or G4, or even G3)
2. Regarding Aperture and Final Cut Studio : I suppose they only meant that Universal versions of those programs will be available (meaning able to run natively on both Intel and PowerMac). Both applications are Pro applications which untill now have not been included with new Macs (they may have trial versions available).
Current Macs come with 'consumer' packages like iLife and with trial versions of iWork and Microsoft Office.

  • Final Cut Studio the universal flavour

    Hi all
I am just about to get the universal update for FCP, to install on my iMac G5. Therefore I would be grateful if you could give me your thoughts on whether it is worth it, especially in view of the latest updates. Does it resolve issues especially with Soundtrack Pro (speed and the dreaded lack of disk space message)?
    Thanks

  • Mac Book Pro and final cut studio 2

    Hi,
Bought a MBP last year and am looking to purchase Final Cut Studio 2 Universal. After looking through some discussions I'm still unsure how well this package will run with my setup. Yes it will be fine, or yes it will run but with some limitations, or yes it will run but I should get a different video card, etc.....? A definate yes or no would be appreciated and any limitations or known issues. I will be using a120GB external hard drive for my video footage.
    Thanks, Mick
Sorry if this is posted in the wrong area or if these questions have been answered. I'm new to Macs and forums and wouldn't like to spend that much cash on a maybe!

    Yes, it will be fine.
The only limitation is Color which needs an external screen with at least 1650x1050 to be kind of useful though it runs at smaller resolutions.

  • What is the Final Cut Studio Universal Crossgrade?

I got an e-mail with an offer to purchase a "Universal Crossgrade" to Final Cut Studio for $49, but I'm not clear about what this is.
I already own FC Studio. Does "Universal" mean that all of the components are now in a single app so there's no more "round tripping" between apps?
Does "Universal" refer to the fact that this is compatible with both Power Mac and Intel based machines?
I'm confused about about what's new in this latest version.

    Mike,
The order form (http://images.apple.com/universal/crossgrade/pdf/Crossgrade.pdf) makes it look like you have to send in all 4 DVDs (Final Cut Studio, Motion 2, DVD Studio Pro and Soundtrack Pro).
This is the part that makes me a little squeamish. I haven't had any problems that require a re-install lately, but IF I DO before my new disks get here, I'm stuck. Also, what happens if I get the new version and there's a bug or something else about it that I don't like? Once again, I'm stuck.
    Maybe I'm just being paranoid.

  • FINAL CUT STUDIO 5.1 (Universal) compatibility with Mac os 10.6.4

We have just purchased a brand-new Mac Pro running Mac OS 10.6.4 my question is this, are there any known incompatibilities with Final Cut Studio 5.1 (Universal) running on a Mac Pro with Mac os 10.6.4.

    Try the Firewire Basic setting.
Also, your camera should be powered on and connected before the mac is turned on. Then, when you fire up the mac and launch FCP, close any projects that open with it.
Then, choose your Easy Setup before you open a new porject to capture into. Then it should work.

  • Order status of final cut studio universal version?

My friend placed order final cut studio last monday (March,27)in stead of me.
My question is that is it comming universal version or not becasue he does not know about anything final cut.
also I cannot contact him right now.
So, if it comes final cut 5.0, i have to return and reorder. because I placed order macbook pro.
would tell your order experience and when apple released the last version of final cut studio?
    POWER MAC 2.3   Mac OS X (10.4.5)

Well, you probably should have waited. I believe the Universal Version was realeased for shipping on the 29th.(I ordered the upgrade myself). It is my understanding that If you ordered it before the release date you will get the old version(runs on PowerPC macs only). I your friend gets the wrong one, I would suggest not opening it and return it for an exchange.

  • Final Cut Studio apps not opening on your Intel Mac - Universal Prokit?

Motion and other Final Cut Studio applications stopped opening on my Intel iMac, and the problem was that the Prokit.framework file wasn't universal binary. I did some Google-ing and found this topic regarding the universal Prokit.framework file.
    http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?showtopic=15003&st=0
Find the Rapidshare link and download it. Follow the instructions in that topic.
Enjoy! I hope it solves the problem for you!

didn'y know there was such a big 'underground' FCP on a PC faction ...< </div>
Sheesh, now we have to completely restructure our knee-jerk responses to "Is there a PC version of Final Cut?" posts.

  • Universal Final Cut Studio

If I am buying a brand new version of Final Cut Studio for my MacBook, msut I also buy the upgrade to make it Universal or will that be included. Thanks,
    Ben

That's a great question. We seem to be in a 'tweener period of time at the moment. The FCSU version won't start shipping for a week or two or so, but the MacBook Pro is shipping now.
Call Apple Sales and ask. On Monday morning, of course.

  • Final Cut Studio Universal Ship date?

Does anyone have any idea as to when Apple will actually ship? Everytime I check my order status, it just states that FCSU is back ordered. We're getting to the end of March. Well, given Apple's track record for tardiness, I guess this is standard operating procedure. I'll continue to be patient, just wondering if anyone's heard anything?? Thanks.

If they're calling it by the next point release, as you indicate, it's Final Cut Studio 1.1 (which includes Final Cut Pro 5.1). The Software License Agreement for FCS 1.1 states, in part:
    2. Permitted License Uses and Restrictions.
    A. Apple Software (Bundle)
This License allows you to install and use one copy of the Apple Software on one Apple-labeled desktop computer and one Apple-labeled laptop computer so long as both computers are owned and used by you. The Apple Software may be used to reproduce materials so long as such use is limited to reproduction of non-copyrighted materials, materials in which you own the copyright, or materials you are authorized or legally permitted to reproduce. This License does not allow the Apple Software to exist on more than one computer at a time, and you may not make the Apple Software available over a network where it could be used by multiple computers at the same time. You may make one copy of the Apple Software in machine-readable form for backup purposes only; provided that the backup copy must include all copyright or other proprietary notices contained on the original.
    Interesting, heh?

  • Why Can't I Install Final Cut Studio?

I have a MacBook Pro which is about 12 months old. It has a 2.66GHz Intel Core i7 Processor and 8G of RAM. I have been trying to install Final Cut Studio 5.1. Yeah I know that is an OLLLLLLLLLLLD version. Why I chose not to update is neither here nor there. I was about to update when Final Cut Pro X was realeaded and FCS vanished into the ether. I really only wanted DVD Pro but when that wouldn't install I went back to Square 1.
The specificationa as stated are:- "These discs contain the files required to install Final Cut Studio 5.1 on either PPC or Intel based Mac computers."
The error message that shows up on the screen when I click on the install package is:- "You can't open the application Final Cut Studio pro.mpkg because Power PC applucations are no longer supported."
This is despite the stated specifications and the fact that there is a Universal Icon on the discs.
I am also having a simillar but not the same problem with iLife '06 but i'll start another thread on that.
I'm confused, thanks for your help in advance.

Your problem is you are running Lion as your OS (10.7) and Lion does not support Rosetta which is required to run the INSTALLER of FCS 2. If you were running Snow Leopard, you would have been able to do the install.

  • Re installing Final Cut Studio on my NEW Mac pro?

I originally purchased Final Cut Studio (on a G5 Power PC), Then installed the universal crossgrade,
then installed Final Cut Studio 2. Now I have a New Mac Pro (Intel Chips) How do I go about
reinstalling FCS? do I need the original serial key from the first version or do I just use my
    FCS 2 serial Key?
    J>H<L

    J>H<L
You'll need both keys, but you only have to do one installation.
The FCS2 installer will ask for the FCS2 key. If that passes, another window will open asking for the FCS key. If that key passes, then it's just a normal installation.

  • Mac Pro and Final Cut Studio 5.1.2

I've had problems trying to export mpeg files from final cut pro using compressor after having updated all applications to their current versions (FCP 5.1.2, Compressor 2.3, Qmaster 2.3, QT 7.1.3...) including firmware, OS and security updates. Since I was kind of in the middle of a project I ended up reverting back to the original universal crossgrade of Final Cut Studio (FCP 5.1, Compressor 2.1, Qmaster 2.1...) in order to get the desired results of a muxed mpeg. Now, before I go back to trying to resolve this issue of updating the software, I would like to know if anyone is running Final Cut Studio on a Mac Pro with all updates current (5.1.2, 2.3...) and with the ability to export muxed mpeg streams - both audio and video in the same file. Also, I have posted more specific questions regarding these issues in the compressor and FCP forums but decided I needed to hear from some Mac Pro users who have had success with the Final Cut Studio updates. BTW, I have done all the updates of Final Cut Studio (5.1.2, 2.3...) on a G5 quad at work and have had no problems whatsoever. I'd just like to have everything up to date and functional. Other than trying to get this worked out, I have found my Mac Pro to be most excellent. Thanks in advance.

Dave, thanks for your input. It would crash out during the compressor export and the failure reason would say 3x Crash Server Down in the compressor box. I haven't tried an mpeg-1 because all we broadcast are mpeg-2 program streams. Most of the stuff I export is no longer than 10 - 12 minute segments. If you could, try exporting as an mpeg-2 muxed. Some other possible factors - I had captured the original footage on a G5 quad at work, put them on an external drive and then loaded them onto the Mac Pro and imported them into the project. Could there be a difference between DV codecs of the PPC and the Intel processors? Now that I'm at a stopping point I'm planning on trying to do the update again. Just hoping to catch something I might have missed. If I were a total computer illiterate I would say user error, but I'm not.

  • I do not manage to install Final Cut Studio 5.1

I ordered and received from APPLE the universal version of Final Cut
    Studio 5.1.
I do not manage to install it owing to the fact that when I write the serial number manufacturer for the recording and that I make
"enter" ; a window appears east mentions: Alarm. An error of licence: the
file of licence will not be written on the disc because the user does
not have the privileges necessary !!!!!!
Whereas I am the administrator of my Powerbook.
Before I make an intervention at APPLE to dispute:
is what somebody knows it why of this Alarm and how to cure it?
By this fact, I do not manage to install the bought program.
Thank you, if somebody knows something about this symptom.
For information, I have Powerbook G4 - Tiger 10.4.8 - the last version of quicktime and quicktimePro, and I am up to date of all my programs.

  • Installing final Cut Studio (2005) on an iMac

I recently bought an iMac with the intent of doing some video editing. I was assured by various people (including the specialist in a local Mac reseller) that I could run the 2005 Final Cut Studio (which I already owned) on the new line of iMacs, but when I tried installing the software it told me I didn't have the required hardware.
Have I just been given misinformation and now have to buy the new studio pack, or is this an issue that can be sorted with a download?
    Message was edited by: Kmadden2004

It depends on the version number of your copy of Final Cut Studio.
If memory serves me correctly, the version of Final Cut Studio in 2005 was a non-universal binary, or PowerPC version, designed specifically for pre-Intel Macs. This version put Final Cut Pro at version 5.0 and went up to version 5.0.4.
The Universal Binary version was a paid upgrade and wasn't released until early 2006. At the time, it was a very good deal, however, after multiple extensions, that upgrade program was discontinued shortly before the release of Final Cut Studio 2 in 2007. The UB version allowed the installation of FCS on Intels and Non-Intels. This changed the version number to 5.1.
EDIT: I've heard of people installing pre-UB versions on Intels and having them work, but it's not supported and not recommended.

  • In Thailand and thinking about ordering Final Cut Studio 5.1 NEED ADVICE

I own a 2006 Power Book G4 notebook. The computer has a 1.5 GHz processor, 1.25 GBDDR SDRAM memory, and 80GB HD. I have enjoyed using iMovie but am ready to give my podcasts a more profesional look. Can my computer operate Final Cut Studio 5.1? If it can not is there an older version that would work?
    Thanks you,

your powerbook may not be the latest and greatest but it is certainly good enough. version 5.1 is "universal" meaning it will work on both PPC macs (like yours) and the newer intel based macs. go for it.
