Aperature will not dispaly raw and jpg imports

Using a Cannon Digital Rebel XT I shoot raw and jpg images simultaneously. Up until Aperature 1.5.3 I could import both raw amd jpg images. For some reason I now can only import raw images. For example, when I import the same compact disc to I Photo I import 88 images, half raw and half jpg. Now when import the same files to Aperature I get 44 raw images. I have tried trashing the preferences file with no success.

ok, i bet they are there ...
first thing to check is open up the aperture library package (right-click show contents) and navigate down into a project (same thing right-click) ... you should see that the RAW and JPEGs are in there ... if not new problem ...

actually been to copper harbor bunches of times, via every route imaginable and at every time of the year ... love the keweenaw pen. ... i went on a shoot up there last july, that brought back a flood of memories !!!

Bridge cs4 can not open raw and jpg directly by itself

i never did it! i want to open raw and jpg files by camera raw directly with open photoshop. i have made the choose to open by double click in the preference but still can not do.
my brother's computer can open both of them and we are similar xp system.
and i have checked and reinstalled many times and still failed.

A bit of magic (if I'd remember):
1. open PS, from here File > Browse in Bridge
2. open any RAW/DNG - it goes to PS
3. switch to Bridge window (PS still open)
4. R-click, select "open in Camera RAW"
5. Close all
Now opening in Bridge should work :)

I loaded the photos onto my tablet and images are fine, so do not feel it is the memory card. Any thoughts?

The error message probably said "unsupported or damaged"
The T3 requires Lightroom 3.4.1 or later. You can either upgrade to a more current version of Lightroom (version 5.6 is the most recent) or you can use the free Adobe DNG Converter to convert the RAWs to DNG, which should import into Lightroom properly.

PowerMac G4 OS 10.4.11 will not recognise RAW images on a SDHC card but it will see JPGs why?

I have a PowerMac G4 OS10.4.11. I have recently bought a Lumix LX5 camera and it uses an SDHC card. My Mac will not recognise RAW image files stored on it either by plugging the camera into a USB slot or by using a USB card reader. Can anyone tell me how to overcome this problem?

I downloaded RPP and it does indeed open the RAW files and lets me convert them into TIFFs or JPGs which I can then import into Photoshop to play with. However I'm still confused about why I can't open them in Photoshop directly. My other camera is a SLR saving to a SanDisk Extreme lll Compact Flash card and I can open RAW files off that on the same computer with no problem using a Photoshop RAW converter plug-in.

Here is the contents of a batch file which will convert whatever raws you drop on it:
"C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Adobe DNG Converter" -cr7.1 -dng1.4 -p0 %*
Once you download the latest converter (release candidate from adobe labs, if necessary), and save the appropriate contents of the batch file (change path to match your system, and parameters to match your druthers, if applicable), the procedure is:
1. Drop raw files on bat file.
2. Import as usual (the DNGs).
Not too bad once you're set up (if DNG converter supports your raws).

Note: on Mac, you may need to use "$@" (with the double-quotes) instead of %* (which is dos batch syntax), and you will need to use the full path to the converter executable file, e.g.

Importing Raw and Jpg?

I've got my camera set up to take Raw and Jpg files. In Aperture I can't seem to find a way to import both, it only shows the Raw files.

Sorry if this has been asked. I did a search to no avail.
I am shooting RAW+JPG w/ my camera but and have now set the preference to import the JPG file next to the raw file.
My question is more on how you do your work flow...
Do you import both (if you shoot this way to begin with?)
I'd like to have the jpeg around cause it's nice to be able to send something off quickly... or do you just create them on the fly when needed?

If you have both Raw and Jpeg imported as treated separately, If you Develop the Raw the JPEG won't auto sync to it with out you being deliberate about it.
That is you select them both in Dev and you Auto sync as you work or you ask LR to sync it by selection after developing.
If you have LR treat the Jpegs as sidecars to the Raws then they get synced when you export XMP or save, but you don't see them in LR.

Aperature will not read my d-800 pictures

I have a Nikon D-800. Have upgraded to Mountain Lion and Aperature 3.4.3 I still get unsupported image format when I try to open the files.

I have been using both aperture 3 and my D800 since June without any issues. I make sure that I am using the latest versions of the software on the Mac.
I shoot in both RAW and JPG, one of the great advantages of the D800 is the two memory cards, but aperture does get confused and sees these as two separate images - when I get time, I will look at ViewNX for the import and then aperture for the organisation.
I have found that aperture is good for organisation, (though less well with an Apple TV which does not understand folders, only projects) and basic editing, but when the going gets tough, I use Photoshop elements - I have not the time or inclination to use the full blown version of Photoshop, my feeling is that if you have the photo so badly wrong that you need it, then you should give up and look at your technique behind the lens- I know, but that is my believe.

Images as RAW and jpgs - how to separate?

I shoot both RAW and jpg, that way I have the RAW for detailed editing, and the jpg for quick edits to post on web, as required, or to send a quick copy to friends. I will probably stop this (shooting both) when I get used to editing RAW, but that is part of my evolution and growth in developing my skills in my digital darkroom.
When I first started with LR, I was using the Beta 2 version and simply imported my PS Elements 8 Catalog and that worked okay, because both versions of the image were imported so that I could see both of them and then pick the image I wanted for further editing. I have now upgraded to the new, full version of LR3 and have just downloaded my first set of images from a weekend of shooting - went looking for bluebirds and only found one nesting box with an active pair in it. I will go back for more in a day or so - more images that is. It is strange how the population of nesting bluebirds in my part of the Western Prairies has declined significantly in the past five years, but that is a whole, different story, Anyway to proceed...I downloaded the images from this afternoon's shoot and found that the RAW image (Canon - CR2) and the jpeg show as one image with a title that says IMG_xxxxx.CR2+jpg. I would like to be able to break the two different images out, or at least get at each one separately for editing purposes. For the life of me, I cannot figure this one out. I am still waiting for Kelby's LR3 book that I pre-ordered...maybe this week. Not sure if that will tell me how to do this, assuming I can. If I can't do this, then I will have to import into Elements 8 and then re-import that file into LR3 - a process I would rather not have to do.
Any insight that anyone can provide on how to do this (I assume it can be done) will be greatly appreciated. Maybe it is something as simple as a "switch" on an import preset, or setting up a "custom" import preset (if there is such a thing). Thanks in advance.

Susan, thanks for the insight. I think I will follow your lead and delete the images from my catalog and re-import them. Hopefully I can find the options that you have noted. It would be nice, though, if there was a way to break them apart after loading, but at least I don't have too many to redo.

Raw and jpg as one in Lightroom 3 second try.

When I import the pictures from my camera I get my raw and jpg together as one image. But the pictures I already have in Lightroom 3 are divided into separate folders and show up as separate pictures. Is it possible to merge the raw and jpg together without importing them anew? I have put keywords on almost all my jpg in Elemenst 8 and don't want to do it again if I don't have to. It took me weeks to do.
Any help appreciated.

I'm in no hurry so I'' wait to see if someone comes up with a solution. Otherwise I guess I have to import them anew and tag them again. Not difficult. Just taskes a while. Should have done it correct from the beginning.

Combination of RAW and JPG displayed in Lightroom?

When I set my Canon 30D camera to take both Raw and JPG images, Lightroom displays only Raw images but not JPG images. What do I do to have Lightroom display JPG as well as Raw images?

It's in the import preferences. You'll have to sync or re-import once you change the pref for that ("treat JPEG files next to raw files as individual images" or some such language).

Canon XSi and aperture, both RAW and jpg viewing?

I just got the Canon 450D and using Canon utility I see both the RAW and jpg pics import next to each other when I shoot in in the RAW and jpg mode. But I import to Aperture and I seem to only see one of them, the RAW one, not the jpg one. Is there a setting for this or am I missing something?

Hundreds of my iPhoto pictures will not be copied and will not show when I double-click on them. When I do in iPhoto an exclamation surrounded by a triangle appears. Though I can see the picture in the small tiles below it will not expand.

I have already went through all 3 Repair options and when that did not solve it went through a complete Rebuild. Any Help?! Any Suggestions on how to fix this?! I have spent almost 2 days now going through all of the published help.
I have backups going back 6 months - I have not had the real need to check every album before - but - all of my backups also have this same problem.

The triangle with the ! indicates that the connection between the thumbnail and the orginal is missing - this can be caused by many things including database corruption and user action emoving the originals photos on urpose or by accident
If the database is corrupted then rebuilding is the solution - backup and depress the option and command keys, launch iPhoto and rebuild your database -- if the iPhoto rebuild does not cure the problem then download iPhoto Library manager and use its rebuild command which creates a totally new library leaving the existing one untouched
If you have deleted the photos then you need to start over with a new library and import the photos you have not deleted into it
You can select one of the problem photos and use the reveal original in finder commander (file menu) to see if the original is there - if it is a finder window will open showing it

Ok this is bizzare!
Thank you for your response, I went throught each and every step without any luck, even got the recovery programme, and painstakingly tried to sift through all that mumbojumbo to find what i needed. finally found the bookmark bit, but it had been fully overwritten :(, so on reading about previous ff versions, found the sqlite thingys, and they were relatively unscathed(partly written over, but saveable apparently TG), saved them to adiff drive, amongst other possibly good folders. Then looked up how to install them, and it said to close FF, and install to profile folder.
So i tried to close FF, and the original problem from a few days ago, where it asked me if 'i was sure i wanted to close this window as it has X tabs open', popped up again. This is where 'open blank page' selection was set, over 'open previous tabs'. Wanting to save that info on how to sort out these friggin files, I reset the Option to 'open previous tabs', and closed FF. After unsucessfully searching for the profile folder on my laptop, i opened FF intending to search online for where i could find said folder.
AND BANG, surprise surprise, the FF I had just closed with only tabs open about finding out what the heck to do, had disappeared, and instead my original saved tabs were up, and my bookmarks are there..... I am gobsmacked! what the heck just happened there???
I have made 3 back up in different folders now, of those friggin bookmarks. I am weary now tho of shutting it all down.... what if its back to the other pages I had with no bookmarks, tomorrow :(
