¡Gracias!

  • Displaying Metadata In Aperture's Pdf Contact Sheet

    Hello everyone,
I have been using Aperture's PDF contact sheets. It has a nifty way of showing metadata like caption underneath the photo. My problem is i do not want to display "Caption : TreeStump" I only want to display "TreeStump"
Is there a way of doing this in aperture, or is there a plugin that can do this for me?
    Many thanks in advance.
    Jay.

I don't see a way of doing it from within aperture.

  • OT: Aperture analogue for .pdf, .eml, .doc etc?

Does anyone know if there is a way to view .eml and attachments such as .pdf, .jpg, .doc etcetera in some kind of real size 8 1/2 x 11 inch view on my MacPro or MacBookPro? I am struggling right now with portfolio submissions that I am trying to organize and while I have previously printed out the email /and/ the cover letter /and/ the portfolio, this is getting increasingly difficult to handle.
Is there some kind of software that acts like Coverflow on steroids that will let me drop these into a folder and scroll through them very quickly like I handle my images in Aperture (small icons on left and choice of display and sizes etc) in the Browser?
Somehow Coverflow does not quite cut it since I need to save out the .eml and the .pdf and the .doc (and it is also not showing me the full pdf or the full .doc just the cover page) and Mail or Postbox will let me organize the emails themselves but the attachments stay pretty buried until I open them.
Is there such an animal on the mac continent?
    TIA

    Hi CO.
Thanks so much for the help here. Sorry for the OT.
Aperture seems really great at making access to images very easy and I am sort of struggling to get my other items together as I push this port to mac forward.
Is it possible there is something that will just sort of "lay them out" or "splay them out" in a way that Aperture seems so good at? I got to realizing that Coverflow and Quicklook are really awesome but I'm wondering if there is a way to expand on this or minimize the organization that is required. I've been looking at FileMaker and I'm also wondering if there isn't some kind of /linkage/ that I can make between my data.
I mean, the problem I am having is that if I take 100 resumes from within Postbox (my Mail equivalent) I have to first move them to a dedicated folder and then I have no real way of seeing the imagery in the portfolios unless I click on the email, select the portfolio and then hit the spacebar and do a quicklook. This will only give me a cover page and then I have to double click on the pdf or .doc or whatever to actually see the contents.
I /think/ Aperture handles pdf's in the same way but if I import them into Aperture (and not all of them will be pdf) I then have disconnected them from their .doc coverletter or even the email that they came in with. You follow me? I mean, I am just sort of hoping to knit this info together a little better in a way I can see it and it isn't buried.
I bought Papers to organize and search for pdf's but somehow this type of thing still seems like the documents that should go together are all going to be very segregated and also hard to see unless you specifically open them. Just thinking out loud and hoping for a recommendation but I almost want a Aperture-Preview-Coverflow hybrid in a way...
I mean, I have organized these into 3 Ring binders so I can pull them out and see it all at once but I can't figure out how I would do this in my mac which really should be the place I handle this from now on...
Do you see where I am at?

  • Save pdf to folder as JPG fails

I have completed the update process so I am running Yosemite and Aperture 3.6
When I try to use the automator work flow that was installed with Aperture (Save pdf to folde as JPG) , I get an error message that "Retrieve Disk Item References encountered an error"
The workflow will work from another user account and the similar workflow for saving PDF to folder as TIFF works just fine.  I have tried reinstalling the workflow from a backup but it still fails.  Any idea how to get this working back to normal?

I got it fixed with 2 rounds of cache cleaning and pref file removal.  My computer thinks it is 4 in the afternoon and all the menus are in Swedish, but its all good!

  • Importing into Aperture 3 from iPhoto as referenced files

Apologies if this has been asked before, but I can't find anything this topic...
I've just upgraded to Aperture 3. In Aperture 2, my way of working was to store RAW images in iPhoto and import as referenced files into Aperture. This was very straightforward. Now, I have 2 problems:
1 - I can't see how to import referenced images from iPhoto. If I use the import command, my iPhoto images don't show up in the list of locations to import from; if I use the iPhoto browser in Aperture and drag from that, it imports the file into the Aperture library rather than importing as a referenced file...
2 - If I import using the iPhoto browser, not only does it import into the Aperture library, it imports the jpeg preview rather than the RAW file.
The only way I can see to get the RAW file into Aperture is to find it in the Finder then import into the Aperture library. This seems excessively long-winded and also duplicates the file, using up extra disk space.
    I'm using Aperture 3.0.1 and iPhoto 7.1.5
Thanks in advance for your input

I have not imported an iPhoto library because my workflow is to to use Aperture for storing and archiving Raw files and iPhoto for exported jpegs.
However the instruction in the Aperture 3 PDF Manual are as follows:-
    To import your iPhoto library
Choose File > Import > iPhoto Library.
Select the iPhoto library in the dialog that appears.
Choose a location for the imported images by doing one of the following:
    • To store imported masters in the Aperture library: Choose “In the Aperture Library” from the Store Files pop-up menu.
    • To import the files as referenced images stored in their current location on your hard disk: Choose “In their current location” from the Store Files pop-up menu.
Tip: Choosing“Intheircurrentlocation”isrecommended.Whenyouchoosethisoption, Aperture refers to the original files in their current location and does not have to duplicate the files, which doubles the disk space needed to store the files. For more information about referenced images, see What Are Managed Images and Referenced Images?
    • To store imported masters as referenced images in the Pictures folder on your hard disk: Choose Pictures from the Store Files pop-up menu.
    • To store imported masters as referenced images in a location other than the Pictures folder: Choose “Choose” from the Store Files pop-up menu and select a folder. Choose “No folder” from the Subfolders pop-up menu to specify that the files be stored as separate, individual files in the selected folder. You can also specify that Aperture create a hierarchy of subfolders with specific folder names to hold your files.

  • Aperture 3 and HDV Camcorder

I've been messing around with Aperture 3 for a while now and decided it was time to try playing with the new HD video support.
On Apple's Aperture "New Features" page http://www.apple.com/aperture/features/#video it states:
    "Video Support
Import, browse, and play back video clips — including HD video — from digital SLR cameras, point-and-shoot cameras, and +digital camcorders+."
Well, I plugged in my Sony HDV camcorder with it's Firewire cable and expected it to open right up in import. Nope, nada. Couldn't find any way for the camcorder to show up in Aperture. (This same camera and MacBook Pro work fine to import with Final Cut Pro.)
Then I tried to import the .MOV video files into Aperture that I used Final Cut to capture. This sort of worked. Aperture did recognize and import them, but two things were seriously messed up. When Final Cut captures video from an HDV camcorder, it leaves it in the interlaced 1440x1080 amorphous pixel aspect ratio how it comes off the camera. When those clips are played back in Final Cut (or in Quicktime X) it somehow deinterlaces and displays the video in normal 1920x1080 so it looks good on the screen. Aperture 3 doesn't seem to do this. Once imported, the clips looked like crap when played back in Aperture.
I found on this page http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4025 a very short list of DSLR cameras that Apple says Aperture supports, none of which are digital camcorders. How does Apple get away with claiming Aperture 3 supports HD video from "digital camcorders" when it doesn't have one listed on their supported list and Aperture doesn't even do a very good job of working with HD video files captured from another application?
I've Googled around on this forum, the Aperture manual, and Apple's site and haven't found any other mention of Aperture working with HDV camcorders.
Does anyone here have any better experiences?

A quick look at the contents pages in the Aperture 3 PDF manual seems not to mention camcorders.
Page 145 of the manual states-
Aperture supports most image, audio, and video file formats captured by digital cameras. An example of the file types and formats that can be imported into your Aperture library are:
    • GIF • JPEG • JPEG2000 • PNG • PSD(8-and16-bit) • DNG • RAW files from a variety of supported digitalcameras • TIFF (8- and 16-bit) • AIF • WAV • MOV
So digital camcorders recording in ACVHD are not stated as compatible with Aperture so need to have their movies converted to the supported formats first.

  • Sharing libraries/photo between Aperture /iPhoto

    Hi
I wonder if someone could possibly help.
We (the wife and I) both have a Macbook Pro and we are currently both using iPhoto 09. For my use I am thinking of upgrading and using Aperture 3.
The question is and no disrespect to the wife here but she would not understand Aperture so I would like for her to still use iPhoto
Now, is there a way that once I have imported the iPhoto library to Aperture 3, I can manage the library in Aperture and from time to time import back to iPhoto to keep her photo’s up to date?
Can the whole library be imported incrementally, i.e. import my complete Aperture library to the Macbook (iPhoto) – and ideally this will replace her existing iPhoto library with just the changes I have made in Aperture.
Hope I have explained that correctly…
BTW, I have file sharing active so ideally the incremental changes (my Aperture library to Wife’s iPhoto library) would be over my wireless network.
Thanks – really appreciate any thoughts tips here…

Presumably you mean you have His and a Hers laptops each with a personal iPhoto library.
There is no problem importing a complete iPhoto Library into Aperture, the iPhoto library will still exist afterwards. Or you can import specific iPhoto Events. However there are many import option parameters and you would be best to read carefully the Aperture 3 PDF Manual describing those on Pages 170 - 173.
For example, If you import as referenced images a change made to the image later in iPhoto will cause the image also to be changed in Aperture. So you need to be clear in your mind what you want to achieve.
Importing as managed files will duplicate the iPhoto Library so occupying twice the space on your hard drive.
Given the slightly complex arrangements you describe it might be best to manually keep your wife's iPhoto Library in step with your Aperture Library by exporting Jpegs or Psd's and then import them into her iPhoto Library. That way you will avoid the chance of wiping out valuable images automatically.

  • Watermarking and Aperture?

Just a quick question..Can Aperture perform Watermarks on Pictures? I tried using Capture Nx2 But it cant do watermarks and i tried using gimp with it But gimp needs X11 and X11 has just been a nightmare for me. Not trying to sound cocky or anything but my pictures are usually alright and i just usually need to do minor corrections and I want to just watermark them for copyright purposes. So should I just go with Aperture?? Any feedback is appreciated Thank you!

    It is easy:

The excellent Tidbitshttp://db.tidbits.com/issue/918 had a link a set of nice demos showing the use of Applescript with Aperture, in this case linking to Adobe CS3 InDesign: http://www.apple.com/applescript/aperture/indesign/
This suite of tools is at least a partial answer to my earlier complaints that there were no easy ways to alter the default web templates built into Aperture 2.X.

  • Beginners guide - Library vs Time Machine vs Vault?

I am new to Aperture 2, and up until now have had a workflow system that's involved importing images and exporting them into folders, and have no idea what Apertures Library is or does? I am using it as a default setting at present.
I have never used Aperture 2 'til this month, and am exporting all my Masters into a RAW folder as well exporting them as TIF / JPG versions of every shoot I do. But I am confused as to what the Library does? Where are the images I am importing in terms of the Library? Am I doubling up saving RAW versions? Are they stored already in the Library?
I am also operating Time Machine which is also new to me. Is this backing up the Aperture 2 Library?
If I delete the images from a photo shoot I have saved as > Export > Masters and Export > Versions as both RAW (CRW) files, TIF files, and low res JPG files, will the photos remain 'stored' in the Library?
If the answer to this is yes, then once I've sent a client their TIF and JPG versions, I can delete these folders and rely on Aperture Library, Time Machine and a hard copy on DVD of each photo shoot. Right? or Wrong?

When you import into Aperture, you have a choice between using "Managed" masters or "Referenced" Masters. Managed masters are actually imported into the Aperture library, so if you also export them to another folder, you are doubling up. Referenced masters are maintained in another location and Aperture simply keeps track of them and creates thumbnails and previews in the Aperture library.
So, to avoid doubling up, you can either: (1) import all files as managed files and not export them, or (2) move them first to wherever you want to keep them, then import them as referenced files.
Either way, you should of course have a separate backup scheme. If you use referenced files, then Time Machine works fine. Originally, there was a problem using Time Machine with the Aperture library, but I think that has been resolved. Still, I exclude the Aperture library from Time Machine and backup my Aperture library to an external using the Vaults feature in Aperture.
The Aperture manual pdf, which can be downloaded from the Aperture support site, has good explanations of managed vs. reference files and of workflow backup.

  • Borerless printing observations

    Hi gang,
I am in the process of sending off an Aperture book to one of the non-Apple services. It was recommended that I make the page size 8.5x11 borderless in the print settings dialog box. Unfortunately, my laptop did not seem to list borderless as an option anywhere. It occured to me that maybe my desktop would have this option, as it was plugged in to a printer that could print borderless pages. Sure enough, the print settings dialog gave me the option for borderless pages when that printer was selected.
I guess in retrospect this may be obvious to some, but I noted when I did a search that others had been struggling with the no borderless problem as I had.
It seems strange that if you are printing to a PDF that there is not some form of generic printer driver that could be selected that includes the borderless option.
    Cheers!

OK, I have had this problem too. I sent off my PDF to SharedInk.com and realised that the save to PDF in Aperture does NOT print borderless by default. The problem for me is that as I had no printer that could print borderless, I could not save a PDF as borderless.
    Pretty useless!
So, I scoured the Internet and found this:
    http://www.educationaltechnology.ca/dan/archives/2005/03/15/add-a-virtual-pdf-pr inter-to-mac-os-x-or-how-to-save-copies-of-completed-pdf-forms-from-acrobat-read er/
Allows you to install a PDF printer, which is accessible as a printer in Aperture (allows you to set printing to borderless). In the preview you'll see that the borders have gone! Once you've set this up, you can actually use the Save PDF instead of the print button, since when I tried to print using the new PDF printer I couldn't actually open the resulting PDF. The Aperture saved PDF (now borderless) now works though, so in effect the installed PDF printer driver is really just a dummy as you can save to PDF and still use the borderless printing functionality that is only initialised once you have installed a printer driver that is capable of this.
Hope this works for you. Good news for anyone that doesn't have a borderless printer.
    Rob

  • Applescript to rename projects

    Hi,
Does anyone know if you can use Applescript to rename projects in A3?
I'm looking to automagicly name projects by running a script on import, but haven't much experience in Applescript.
    Cheers
    Darren

It is possible. Below is an example on how to do it and you probably will need to tailor it for your specific needs.
    tell application "aperture"
    tell project "x"
    set name to "y"
    end tell
    end tell
Be sure to check out Aperture 3's dictionary and the Aperture 3 AppleScript Reference guide (<http://images.apple.com/aperture/resources/pdf/Aperture3_AppleScriptReference.pdf>) for more information.

  • Feature Request: Proofbooks - Watermarks and Printing to Postscript

When creating proofbooks to be distributed either printed or electronically to clients, it is important to be able to easily print a version of the book with watermarks on all the photographs. This makes it easy and safe to send clients proofs of a book to examine before printing.
It would be nice if I could "print to proof pdf" or something similar from Aperture. PDFs created by Distiller from Postscipt are MUCH smaller then the ones generated by Aperture and other programs. a 51+ MB PDF is fine for the publishing house, but is impossibly large to email to a client for proofing. Another option would be to at least expose the normal "print pdf to postscript" like the normal print dialog does when you have things like Acrobat Distiller installed, so those of us who do have Distiller can make use of it for things like this.
If there are any workarounds people know for these two situations in the meantime I would love to hear about them.
Thank you for a great product.
    Sean

I di dcome up with a workaround for this issue, although it requires Adobe Acrobat and Distiller. I printed a PDF with Apeture that was 54 MB in size. I opened it in Acrobat and used it's watermark feature to quickly watermark each page (not pretty but effective). I then used the "Save PDF as Postscript" to create a large PS file of the PDF (69 MB). I then started Distller with the "Smallest File Size" output settings selected and processed the Postscript file into a nice and small PDF proof version of my book with watermarks. This final proof version was only 1.5 MB and looked just great on the screen.
    Hope this helps others.
    Sean

  • Contact sheet with name of images

i saw a couple of references to this. one involved printing out of aperture to pdf, one involved image buddy and one appeared to involve exporting to html.
is there a good way to get a set of contact sheets out with the names of the files so I can review them?
i believe I am looking for something like a photoshop capability that lets me spec number of columns and rows and text size etc.
thanks for any help on getting there.
    - Jon

Check out the utility of the built-in "Contact Sheet" preset in the print dialog before you look elsewhere.  You can specify number of columns and rows and print metadata below each image (as well as lots of other options).
Don't know from your message whether you are planning to print or review on a computer.  I assume you can't just review the images in Aperture?
