Aperture 2.0 RAW import on a MacBook Pro 2.26

I tried to use Aperture on my old 2.0ghz macbook, once. It was within the system requirements but never would run. I regularly use Aperture 2.0 on my iMac 2.8 and it works fine. Sometimes it hangs but in general the workflow is very smooth. Well, my old macbook died so I bought a MacBook Pro 2.26ghz and was excited to be able to edit photos on the road. However, after importing a 4gig CF card with around 200 shots on it (~12mb per shot, I use a Canon 5D Mark I) Aperture just seems to be spinning away on the data and not producing much. I can click on images in the slideshow frame and some of them will pop-up, without regard to the location in the batch. This has been going on for about 45 minutes. I realize that I should max out the RAM but the machine is well within the system requirements... what gives? Thanks in advance.
To be more specific, the slideshow along the bottom has hash-marked images but no thumbnails. The whirling grey wheel says "thumbnails..." by it. I do this all of the time on my home machine, bulk RAW files take some time, I know but this is really dragging.

This problem was fixed with the ProKit update, duh... my fault

We are having old home movies put on DVD's. How do we import them to MacBook pro using Snow Leopard and iMovie 8.0.6?  Can watch the movies on the laptop, but they will not import.

We took 3 video cassette 8mm that were recorded in the early 90's to a place that burned the videos onto 3 DVDs.  When inserted to our Mac, the DVD player comes on to play the DVD. Opened Quicktime, but can find no way to import. Went to File>Open File>Sony_DVD_Recorder_Volume. Clicked on Sony_DVD-Recorder_Volume and it shows a file named VIDEO_TS.  Clicked on that and 6 files showed VIDEO_TS.BUP,   VTS_01-0.BUP,   VTS_01_0.IFO,  VTS-01_1.VOB,   VTS_01_2.VOB, VTS_01_3.VOB.  Where is DVDxDV?

  • How can I export slideshows created in Aperture v3.3.2 from Mid-2009 MacBook Pro-17 to blank DVDs?

(Fifth futile attempt in two hours, before I learned there was a Post webpage – I’m new to ApSuppCom - and after I learned that I am not allowed to update previous content, so I had to back out, make a few changes, and start over.)  How can I export slideshows created in Aperture v3.3.2 (complete with superimposed captions and music tracks) from Mid-2009 MacBook Pro-17 to blank DVDs ?  (Some other specs: Mac OS Lion 10.7.5; Capacity 499.5 GB;  Processor 2.8 GHz Intel Core  2 Duo; Memory 4GB 1067 MHz DDR3; Graphics NVIDIA GeForce 9400M 256MB)
I cannot do a copy (export) without various error messages appearing and the inevitable stoppage occurring.  Always with the DVD Video Player final message reading, “Supported disc not available.” Advisors and Mac Geniuses at local Apple Stores have told me to try Roxio Toast.  When I visited the Roxio website, and found numerous other company products, the descriptions all seemed to suggest that most of the apps shown can easily export videos to DVDs, but nothing was said about finished digital slide shows being exported.  At future events soon,  I hope to be handing out these finished DVDs (free) to the people in them.   Any help will be greatly appreciated. A.Z.

How can I export slideshows created in Aperture v3.3.2 (complete with superimposed captions and music tracks) from Mid-2009 MacBook Pro-17 to blank DVDs ?
Aperture cannot burn slideshows to a DVD.  It only can export a video of your slideshow.
In Aperture 3 you use the "Export" button in Aperture's slideshow project to render a video to a folder on your disk.
Then you use iDVD or another program to burn a video DVD.
I cannot do a copy (export) without various error messages appearing and the inevitable stoppage occurring.  Always with the DVD Video Player final message reading, “Supported disc not available.”
Could you please describe the exact steps that are causing these error messages?
How are you exporting your slideshow from Aperture? Which settings are you using? And how are you importing the video to iDVD or Toast to burn a video DVD?

  • Aperture installation deleted all image files from MacBook Pro.

After installing Aperture 3, I noticed that all the image files I had on my MacBook Pro immediately disappeared. These were stored in various locations throughout my computer depending on subject (e.g. "Emergency Response Training", "Summer 2009", "Car Restoration" and so on). A small number were in the "Pictures" folder but most were kept in other locations. All the folders and subfolders where these images were stored are intact but the images are gone. There is simply a "thumbs.db" file inside and the folder size is about 6 kb on average.
I did nothing other than install Aperture (no importing or library creation) and none of these images or folders are in the Aperture library. A similar thing happened with iPhoto where all my iphoto thumbnails show up but there appears to be no actual photo. No images prior to Aperture installation appear anywhere on the Macbook using tailored queries with "Find".
Apple support indicated that Aperture would not search out these photos unless prompted and would never delete them but It's hard to imagine how else this could have happened, as it happened only during installation (subsequent photos are fine) and targeted all image files in every location. Hard drive is new and indicates no problems.
Any ideas what might have happened - and, more importantly, how I might be able to recover the missing images? Unfortunately, my upgrade to Lion obliterated my DNS 321 back up disk, as well, and I don't yet know if I can recover those files.
Thanks for any help you can offer.

Apple support claimed it was impossible for Aperture to delete files, as well, Allen. All I can tell you is I installed Aperture and the files immediately disappeared. I installed Aperture with the intention of learning its capabilities over the ensuing months, as I had never used it before, and so made sure to do nothing but install and launch so I could have a look at it and see how it was set up.
The network hard drive obliteration occured when I was trying to transfer novie files from my Macbook to my DNS 321 network drive, which I use to store all my backups and most of my media files. I've done this countless times with Snow Leopard without a hitch. However, when I tried it with Lion the system locked up during the transfer and I lost my connection to the drive. Once I managed to reconnect, I found that I couldn't get into the folders on the network drive anymore. All that would come up was a "My Documents" folder, which had no content. After doing a websearch I discovered that Lion no longer supports DNS 321 and that others with similar style drives had been having similar problems. What might be unique to my situation was that when I hooked up an old PC to the DNS 321 I was able to get back into my original folder set up but I found that the folders labelled from (A to J) were missing entirely and that the remaining folders had no content.
So, as I mentioned in my first post, the only input from me was installation and launch of Aperture and the only thing I was doing with my network drive was transferring movie files from the Macbook to the DNS 321 drive. If neither of those actions could possibly have caused the problems I described, I'd be very eager to learn what did.

  • Cable for importing to new MacBook Pro

Could you please tell me what kind of cable connection (DV interface cable?) I should purchase for importing movies from my Panasonic (PV-GS83) to my brand new MacBook Pro? The one I have for my iBook G4 no longer works because the MacBook Pro doesn't have the same D-shaped connection port. (Sorry for the inadequate terminology.) Thanks!

    excellent discription, like that
your MBpro has a fw800 connector, the old cable is a fw400..
so, you need a firewire 800/4 pin cable.. any electronic supplier, ~10-15$ ...
in case, they don't offer any, there're fw400/fw800 adapters.. you can use your old cable

  • Import contacts to macbook pro retina

i have a macbook pro retina. how do I import my contacts from my iphone without using icloud? i dont know how to import to icloud. thanks!

The only way to synchronize contacts between devices is to use a network server. Some people (including me) prefer not to use iCloud for privacy reasons, but that doesn't seem to be an issue for you. Open the iCloud preference pane and check the box marked Contacts. If you haven't already done so, you'll first need to create an Apple ID and sign in to it.
You cannot sync contacts with iTunes.

  • Aperture very slow to load on i7 Macbook Pro

I recently purchased an i7 Macbook Pro, and the first thing I did was to load Aperture 3. After installation, it opened in around 5 seconds. I proceeded to install other software (firefox, iWork etc. etc.) and when I went to start Aperture afterwards, it now starts in around 2 - 3 MINUTES!
I have rebuilt the system a number of times over the past few days, and think I have found the culprit - iWork. When it's loaded, it seems to kill the load times for Aperture. I'm not 100% sure it's iWork, but has anyone else had a similar problem?
If so, has anyone got any ideas on how to fix it?
    Cheers

Also try a few of the following
Run System Maintenance, start with Disk Utility>repair permissions,
    Delete the Aperture user prefs
Even run the steps listed on the Aperture 3: Troubleshooting Basics page

  • Firestore Importing Problems with MacBook Pro and FCP

    Hello,
I've encountered a problem trying to import my P2 files from my brand new Firestore and for some reason my trusty MacBook Pro doesn't acknowledge their existence. Here's my process so far:
1.) I captured the footage in P2 mode at 720/24P
2.) I initially just tried to plug the Firestore into the computer.
3.) Then I saw that I had to set it up into DD Drive mode. I did this before running the "Organize P2" utility.
4.) When I opened the Firestore's icon on the desktop I saw only the ten reel folders (numbered 0-9) and the log folder. None of these folders had any clips inside them.
5.) After checking the manual again I hit the "organize P2" utility. This did not make any files show up.
6.) I tried "Import Panasonic P2" inside of FCP, but it doesn't see the files either.
7.) The only encouraging factor is that I CAN playback the files on my HVX200 from the device.
BUT HOW CAN I GET THEM INTO FINAL CUT PRO!?!?!?!?!
    Thank you so much,

  • Email not being imported into my MacBook Pro - SSL error

My email accounts that I monitor thru the mail in my macbook pro are now not working or updating.  When I read the error message it states that I might have to turn SSL off if my server does not support it.  I read Eric Roots suggestion on how to turn off SSL but when I follow his instructions I can not edit the SSL selection to uncheck.  My mail has been working fine by importing 5 email accounts into my Mail Application but since May 9 it has quite working on my Macbook Pro.   The mail app works fine on my ipad and my iphone.

Out of frustration I finally completely shut down my MacBook Pro and waited 30 minutes then turned back on and majectly all of my email accounts imported into my Mail account.  Still not sure why this happened.  I use my MacBook as my desktop so I leave it on all the time and wonder if this may be my problem.   Thanks looking at my question but no answer replies but this seemed to fix my issue.

  • Import with new macbook Pro

im using the latest itunes with my new macbook pro, and having a huge pain importing many of my cds. this isn't a right protection problem. many cds keep stalling out on certain tracks as if they are majorly scratched, yet i see no visible evidence of damage on any of them. i've decreased the quality of the import, turned off error correction, etc. i also tried Max but it too stalls out. is this a problem with the internal drive? is there a different program i can use? on my old pc i'd use windows media player when itunes couldnt read a track, then import into itunes.
    thanks

yes that's what happens to me. the program (itunes and Max) both stall out, i have to force quit.
i am hesitant to send the computer back, just because that makes me very nervous.
I can import songs from cds, just not all the time. older cds, cds that are potentially scratched stall the programs out. however, the scratching is so minor that i can't identify it visually. i read up the help files and it looks like both programs are set up to recover very damaged cds, so why not cds that dont even look damanged?
to recap: i can import from pristine disks. i can import selected tracks from certain disks. the system stalls out on certain tracks.
i'm looking for a way to import those tracks. (i keep a lot of audio books in my system and missing a track ruins it all!) any help?

  • Import video on Macbook Pro

    Hi,
i don't see the icone iMovie on my Macbook, so i assum i don't have iMovie. In this case, do i still be able to import video into computer. Just want to burn some DVD.
    Thanks

Never assume. Look for the Application in your Applications folder. If it's there you have it. Drag the icon into the Dock.

  • Aperture will not open on my new MacBook Pro. I'm running version 10.8.3.

    The following message appears:
"Check with the developer to make sure Aperture works with this version of OS X. You may need to reinstall the application. Be sure to install any available updates for the application and OS X."
I've reinstalled Aperture twice, and installed all available updates, but this message continues to pop up.

    Hi,
I didn't upgrade to Mountain Lion - since I got my computer yesterday it came pre-installed. Though I did in stall Final Cut Express (version 4 i think). Also, I purchased Aperture in September 2011, so I don't think it is Aperture 2?

  • MacBook Pro And External Hard Drives

My only Apple computer is a MacBook Pro.  I've just got a new camera that stores both RAW and JPEG for each shot so my internal drive is filling up fast.  I need to get an external hard drive and move my Aperture library to that.
When I travel, I wish to continue to use Aperture with the internal drive of the MacBook Pro.  I'm not sure if I understand the workflow.  Please would someone help me understand the best way to do this properly?
I think what I need to do is this:
Let's call the existing library on the internal disk home.  After moving home from the internal to the new external drive, I must create a new library on the internal drive - let's call it travel.  When on the road, I should use the travel library and, when I get back, merge it with the home library.
How do I do that though?
The documentation on merging libraries describes the scenario where you have two computers instead of my scenario.  I'm guessing that you open the home library and import the travel library.  If that's right, do you just then delete the travel library and start again on your next trip?
Also, what do you do about vaults?  Have a second external drive and put them on there?
Thanks in advance for your help.

There are two things you could do:
Turn your Aperture Library into a referenced library and relocate the master image files to your external drive. You will be able to browse, grade, and tag your images even if the external drive is not connected, but you can only edit those images whose masters are managed. Sp perhaps you could keep the masters of the most recent projects managed. while you are on the road import the new images into the library and relocate them to your external drive when you get back.
To relocate to an external drive: Select the images and use
    File -> Relocate Masters
What I sometimes do when on vacation: create a new, second Aperture Library on my travel MacBook Pro and import my new pictures from the trip into this library. When I return I import the new Library from the trip into my main Aperture LIbraryFile -> Import -> Library/Project

  • Transfer Macbook Pro Aperture3 Pics to Imac Aperture3

Just got back from vacation where I shot a ton of RAW pics and imported to my macbook pro using Aperture 3.
Now I am home,  What is the best way to import those files to my Imac Aperture3 Library?
I have a USB to USB cable if that works...

The most common method is to export the Project(s) as a library from the field machine > copy to office machine > Merge or Add copied library on office machine.
The bottom half of page at link below outlines the typical procedures:
    http://documentation.apple.com/en/aperture/usermanual/index.html#chapter=3%26sec tion=3%26tasks=true
Note - pay particular attention to the differences between 'Merging' and 'Adding' the new library since it has different results where duplicate file names are concerned.
    Hope this helps.
