Aperture 2.0 trial- keeps crashing

Hola Aperturos, I just installed a trial version of 2.0 My MacBook works pretty well with it albeit quite hard (fans are running overtime), but it keeps crashing. I really like the software, much more so than CaptureOne and would like to buy it but not if this behaviour keeps up! I had a similar problem with version 1.5 trial too. Is it just the trial version?
Any thoughts or similar experiences?
Thanks in advance.

If you are crashing a lot, it is advisable that you have your RAM tested. Aperture uses a lot of RAM, and if a chip is bad, it will cause the machine to crash when the RAM gets full.
I had this problem with a new MacBook Pro and tried every software solution---repairing the permissions, repairing the disk, running Disk Warrior, Tech Tool Pro, and a number of other utilities. Finally, after about seven months of crashing, I used Rember and Memtest to test my RAM and found that one of my two chips was defective. After the chip was replaced, the machine has handled Aperture and all other programs without a hitch.

I have exactly the same problem. Over the last couple of weeks I've not been able to get Aperture to work. I have tried:
Trashing the "com.apple.plist" file from the preferences folder in the Library folder, and restarting.
    Repairing the disk permissions.
Trashing the all traces of the application, including the plist file and restarting.
Nothing has so far worked. Any suggestions?

  • Adobe Photoshop CC Trial keeps crashing

    Hello,
I have a Windows 8 computer, and I have been using the trial version of Photoshop to make gifs. Recently, photoshop will keep freezing at random points while making a gif. Today I was saving a gif for the web; I fixed the size and hit save and it never saved and photoshop would not close unless I turned off my computer. Also today, while i was trying to open my files and add something to the gif I was making it froze again, and ended up closing while a messaged poped up and said something along the lines of "this program has stopped unexpectedly, microsoft will close the program and let you know if a solution was found." Could someone let me know if this is a bug, or something wrong with my computer? Thanks.

    Thanks for the reply, Chris.
I ended up uninstalling and reinstalling Photoshop, hoping that would fix it but it unfortunately did not. After a few minutes Creative cloud popped up saying Photoshop has a new update; so like you said I updated and it fixed my problem.
Thanks so much for your help, if I have anymore issues I'll be sure to come back here. Have a great day and thanks again.

  • Photoshop CS5.1 trial keeps crashing

I've been having banding problems with my latest landscape photographs in my old Elements 6.0, so I thought I would give full Photoshop a trial and see if that helps. Right now I am close to giving up. The software was downloaded and installed. It does start, but if I try and open any file (dng, psd and jpg) it reports a problem and crashes. I can view it in Bridge and it will open the raw file. If I try and open the file from there, PS crashes again. If I start task manager, it thinks the programme is still running, so I have to close it in there before trying again.
I understand I only get complimentary phone support, which isn't much use as I live in the UK. I can't find anything about this particular problem - frankly if it won't even open a 300Kb jpg file, then I'm not impressed and I may as well go back to my trusty old Elements

We seem to have found the problem by installing the latest driver for the graphics card

  • Aperture 3.3.1 keep crashing

I upgraded Aperture to 3.3.1   When I open it, it crashes a minute of two after it opens - even if I am not doing anything. What am I supposed to do?
It worked very well before the upgrade, and it might have something to do with 'upgrading' the library.  It does not stay open long enough to try to find out the problem.

    Hi iLac
I can not see the harm of updating the database, but it did not solve my problem.  I eventually had to reinstall the older version of Aperture (from TimeMachine back-up).  As the library was in the process of being updated, and the files were somehow altered for the Aperture update, they could not be read by the older version, and I had to restore the library from an Aperture back-up.  If your back-up is not up to date, you will lose those not in the back-up unless you have the pictures stored elsewhere.  This is not ideal, but it works.   Good luck.

If the trial ran ok then deinstall run Cleaner tool and reinstall.

  • Opened Trial, keeps crashing on import from camera of AVCHD

    Hi
I have a MBP 15" 2.66ghz running 10.6.8 with the NVIDIA GeForce GT 33M graphics card (also has the Intel HD Graphics card). I want to import .mts files from a Panasonic GH2 of interviews and location shots.
I'm basically following a Larry Jordan video: where he opens FCPX, creates an event and imports from camera. He's importing AVCHD clips and I watch as he chooses a folder which comtains ONE folder, titled 'Private'. He clicks on Private, clips appear and he chooses options and clicks import.
I did the exact same thing. Of course, AVCHD folders normally contain 3 folders one of which is named 'Private', but since he choose it I did too. There were 4 clips I selected to import without choosing Optimizing or any of the options on the dropdown. I quickly saw no progress was being made and within seconds the ball started spinning and I had to force close.
So I tried with one file--crashed. Tried choosing the folder with 3 folders including Private and copying one file--crashed. Finder too became dysfunctional and I had to force shutdown and restart several times.
Finally, when I started up FCPX wouldn't open. I had wanted to try transcoding one file. While I wait to give it a whirl:
    Is it the .mts files?
Is it my graphics card or processor?
I checked FCPX Prefs but didn't see an indicator of ram being used, I have 8gb and would allocate all if helpful. Is it likely to transcode with ease?
ps I also have FCS and Adobe Premiere Pro CS5.0.0.

Yep, thx, excellent idea. In sys prefs one can do that--done.
I also did some testing to replicate problem: new user, safe mode. Crashes kept occurring.
WHAT WORKED and has made a demonstrable difference: Unchecking background rendering in prefs and pausing rendering in that little pop-up window that shows background activities while importing.
Immediately, I could import more files, tho so far I've only tried one at a time. Today I will try multiple file imports at same time.
I wonder what else I can do to limit FCPX ******* around while I import?
STILL CAN"T IMPORT long files, 24-min or 30-min files, without it crashing. Tho I come awfully close, 80%+, even 90%+ before stopping. Usually, it says 'import failed" and "try re-importing' and when I do that it crashes. I will try again, if still no success I will consider importing sections of one file. Some interviews are 1 hour+.
WILL EVENT SIZE cause crashes as my ability to import grows. That's what happens with Premiere Pro.
RESTABILIZING FINDER (Can a brother get a hand): Part of the problem post crash is that Finder is affected: Often I have to force shutdowns, attached drives can't be detached, even "Finder not responding". If my FCPX prefs get corrupted the same could happen to some Finder prefs.
FINDER HELP: After what I described, what prefs could I trash or other actions take to help Finder?
Thanks again for your help, Tom!! All the best!

Aperture 3 keeps crashing on me, consistently. More frequently after using Burn tool or skin smoothing - and even more often when I feather. What can I do? I already upgraded my RAM. I'm at a loss!

    4) When my computer crashes, once it starts again, it says "repairing" ... but I am not familiar with reparing permissions -- can you explain how I might do that?
If you are running OS X Lion, then you can restart your computer and then press and hold the 'Option' key immediately after you hear the start up 'gong' (usually heard when grey screen shows as it restarts).
You should see at least two Disks to choose from. Choose 'Recovery Disk' and wait for it to load, then choose 'Disk Utility' option in the Utilities dialog.
Once Disk Utility loads, do the following:
1 - In the left hand pane, choose your system partition (usually called either 'Macintosh HD' or 'Macintosh SSD'). Note - don't choose the actual hard drive listed above the partition when using Disk Utility in OS X Lion as this doesn't offer options for repairing due to it including the Recovery Disk you have loaded in memory.
2 - Click the 'First Aid' tab
3 - Click the 'Repair Disk Permissions' button in lower portion of main pane and allow to complete. Ideally, you will get a final message in main pane saying Disk Permissions are repaired.
4 - At lower right of same pane, click the 'Repair Disk' button and allow to complete. Ideally, you will get a final message indicating that Disk Repair is completed and all appears to be good.
5 - Quit Disk Utility > Close Utilities dialog window > Click 'Restart' button (confirm as needed).
You should boot straight into the system partition when complete.
Note - any red text in the main pane text while running the repairs will be issues and you will need to follow the advice given or post back.
If you are running Snow Leopard; then (as David mentions) boot from your first OS X reinstall disc and run the Disk Utility the same way; except you select the actual hard drive listed at top of left pane (not the partition below it). This is because Snow Leopard does not use a 'Recovery Disk' partition and repairs can be run on the HD or SSD itself.
    Hope that helps.

  • Aperture keeps crashing on startup!

I recently moved my library with all referenced master to another 2TB drive. After doing that I imported a dozen of weddings and that took all the night.
After the import was done Aperture just crashes everytime on startup.
I tried with both repairing permission and database with no success, the REBUILD database seems to fix the problem for a while, but then it keeps crashing again just every time.
I don't think it's a drive problem, I run disk utility and at first there was some little problem with the disk which was soon fixed, now the disk is ok and I rebuilt the database several times already... what should I do now?
    Anyone has the same problem?
ps. After database rebuild aperture keeps processing files on startup and crashes, what is that processing?
    Thank you for your help.

    Hi Frank,
I have a Mac Pro 8 intel core with 16 gig ram, OSX 10.6.8, Aperture 3.1.3.
The problem started presumably after the last import, was roughly 10,000 raw images from a DsmkIII and a mkIV.
No new software or hw installed but the HD which is an hitachi deskstar 7K3000.
After copying the lib and the masters from another drive i normally ran aperture so I guess importing all those images could have caused the problem, but Aperture is supposed to manage great amount of data...
If I create a new library everything works fine. The old library (the one I copied before importing) still works fine.
I get a crash report, never read it but the error code is something like BAD_ACCESS_ and other things..
