Aperture 2.1.1 Won't Vault

I haven't been able to vault since upgrading to 2.1.1.
I did a vault immediately before the upgrade and it only took a couple minutes to update the vault. I upgraded and added a few photos, and tried to vault and it popped up an error screen saying "Update valut is waiting for background tasks to complete. [Show Activity] [Cancel]"
I let it sit on that screen for half an hour before I pressed the Show Activity button. THere were no background activities.
I tried to cancel, but it didn't do anything. I had to force quit.
I've tried since and I get the same error message. I've tried letting it run longer (a few hours) and it looks stuck.
How do I downgrade to 2.1?

Is there anything in the Console log which is indicating a problem?
I don't think that in general that Aperture 2.1.1's vault functionality doesn't work. I have used it twice in the past 2 days and it worked fine both times. It takes a while, but that's because each time I had about 4 GB of updates, and I have my vault on a HFS+ Disk Image on a NAS device.

  • How do i consiolidate my photo masters in Aperture 3. I have a vault from Aperture 2 but 3 will not access it.

I use Aperture for photo editing and management and had been working in Aperture 2. I created a vault on my external HD to store my masters in. I had done something to my computer (not sure what) and ended up wiping my internal HD and reinstalling all of my software. After that I was not able to access my vault so most of my masters are basically gone. I attemped to move them with no luck. Frustrated by this point I upgraded to Aperture 3 thinking it would help me be able to get into the vault only to find out that 3 can not consolidate 2 vaults. I do not know what to do at this point but am really bummed to think that my masters may be gone forever. A hard way to learn that nothing in more secure than just saving the photos to DVD prior to Aperture...
Can anyone give me a clue on how I can recover my masters?

I don't have Aperture 2 so that I could check, but Aperture 3 vaults in  Mt. Lion do show the version number in the Finder, like this:
I will put Aperture 2 on another machine and that work on restoring the vault from there,
If you did all available upgrades and your vault is recent, it probably will have been created with the latest available Aperture upgrade, AP 2.1.4.
If you can restore the library this way, back it up, and then rebuild it, before moving it to your SL machine. To rebuild an Aperture library, hold down the Option and Command keys while opening your library in Aperture 1.5 or 2, then click the Rebuild Now button..

Aperture import plug-in won't run.  After examining my library the number of image files stays at "undetermined" and the import button stays greyed out.  Any thoughts?

Others have the same issue, with the import button being grayed out.  My trail copy expired, but I believe by poking around in the options and selecting another Aperture library and re-selecting, I was able to continue.
The problem is common enough, that hopefully Adobe will address.  In the mean time, try repairing your Aperture library, checking permissions, exporting a subset of your library for a test, or try putting that library subset on an external drive.  (Can usually avoid permissions issues.)

  • Since upgrade to yosemite aperture 3.4.5 won't work

    I have 'upgraded' to yosemite.
Aperture 3.4.5 won't work this version of OS X.
    Help.
Do i have to buy new version of aperture? Will Nik software work?

Sadly as i had suspected, i had to use option 4 and pay for the upgrade.
Try to contact Apple Support again - you should not have to pay for an incremental update.
Contact the AppStore Support and request a refund. You will need to provide a proof op purchase of Aperture and insist to talk to the manager.
    Use this link: http://www.apple.com/support/mac/app-store/contact/
Apple sent redeem codes for Aperture 3.6 to several users who had bought the version on disks, if they could provide a serial number, so they could download the update for free.  See for example this discussion: (The post marked as the solution)
Re: Aperture update not possible after update to Yosemite
It is really unfortunate you missed the window of opportunity with Mavericks MacOS X 10.9.5, when the update was easy.

  • My Aperture Library is 200GB and the vault it create is only 6MB.

My Aperture Library is 200GB and the vault it create is only 6MB. Something is wrong. Any ideas?

When you create a vault, it will be initially empty. Update the vault, to write the current content of the library to the vault.  Click the status button (the two chasing arrows) to the right of the vault name to start the update. Remember, referenced images and Photo Stream images will not be backed up in the vault, only the managed images.

  • I just upgraded OS X to 10.6.7 and now Aperture (3.1.2) won't launch.  Any troubleshooting suggestions (short of re-installing Aperture)?

Help!  I just upgraded my early 2008 MacBook Pro 4,1 from OS X 10.5.8 to 10.6.7.  Everything appears to be working fine, except for Aperture 3.1.2, which won't launch - gives an error message which states that "there is a problem" and to "check with the developer to make sure Aperture works with this version of Mac OS X" ( I have to admit I got a chuckle at that, since it's Apple's own effing product!).  Any suggestions short of reinstalling Aperture?
    Thanks,
    John

Sorry you'll need to re-install Aperture see: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3485
And while the web page mentions 10.6.4 it still holds for 10.6.7

You’re running an outdated copy of Safari on your Desktop. That won’t work.
    In the Finder, select
    Go ▹ Applications
from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-A to open the Applications folder. Check that the Safari application is in that folder. If it is, use it, and delete the copy on your Desktop. Never move or copy built-in applications.
If you've deleted Safari from the Applications folder, back up all data, then reinstall OS X. If your Mac was upgraded from an older version of OS X, you’ll need the Apple ID and password you used to upgrade, so make a note of those before you begin.

  • Aperture Locks Up and Won't Open Selected Library

I recently did some housekeeping on my system drive..... now Aperture does not connect to the managed library or vault. The library is on a separate drive and shows 40 gigs.
    I have done the following:
    1. Re-Installed Aperture and set the Library location in preferences.... all I get is the spinning wheel.
    2. Started Aperture holding down the option key and pointed to the library or vault..... all I get is the spinning wheel.
I obviously messed up something when I did my housekeeping, but I thought re-installing the program would fix that issue. I've searched through the posts and forums and can't find a similar problem. Any ideas? I'm stuck!
    Thanks!

You should try to rebuild your library. There is a way to force Aperture to rebuild the library on startup through a key sequence which I do not remember. I know I had to do this once when I was in a similar situation as you.
Here is a link that talks about how to do it

  • Aperture 3.1.3 won't open after upgrade to Lion

Using latest Aperture 3.1.3 on Mac Mini, 2.53 Core Duo, 4GB.  Worked fine before upgrade to Lion last week.
Repaired permissions, deleted com.apple.aperture preferences (in now hidden ~/Library), deleted program and reinstalled as new download from App store.
    Error message upon startup says:
    Dyld Error Message:
      Library not loaded: /Library/Frameworks/PluginManager.framework/Versions/B/PluginManager
      Referenced from: /Applications/Aperture.app/Contents/MacOS/Aperture
Reason: no suitable image found.  Did find:
/Library/Frameworks/PluginManager.framework/Versions/B/PluginManager: no matching architecture in universal wrapper
BTW - "Option - Cmd" during startup won't get to Aperture repair option.
Maybe I am missing something simple.  Anybody have any ideas?  Thank you!

Ok - found my own solution after a more thorough search of forums.  Tried it and this solved the problem:

In a nutshell,my guess is that my installing Motion 5 was the culptrit, as there seems to be something that installing Final Cut and /or Motion does to affect the Library structure of Aperture.
The suggested deleting and re-downloading of the plugin manager buried deep in /Library/Frameworks/PluginManager.frameworks/Versions/B/PluginManager  did the trick.
    Aperture works like it should.

  • Aperture 3.1.1 won't update-help-

when I try to run 3.4.4 updaye get error message that aperture is not installed

Aperture needs to be installed in the systems Applications folder and named Aperture for the update to see it.
If it is in amy other folder (even a subfolder of Applications) or if it is named something like Aperture3.1.1 the update won;t work.

  • Aperture crashes when trying to create Vault

There are many, many posts regarding this topic. This is obviously a major issue. To shoot pro this is an impossible arrangement. Is there anybody one can contact at Apple? Is the "help" on Mac software only user provided? Does anyone have any idea on how to resolve these crash issues? It looks like I need to stop using Aperture and export my 15k plus images out of Aperture. This is a nightmare and yet another flaw in Apple products. Lots of wiz-bang if you're lucky enough that it actually works.

You can contact Apple support, or you can use Aperture's "submit feedback" mechanism. These are user-to-user forums.
Vaults work quite well for most people; the majority of times that people have issues with Vaults, it's because they are storing them on non-supported file systems (i.e. external hard drives that come formatted from the factory as FAT32, which cannot support Aperture's file naming format).

I was editing photos and it was getting stuck or frozen and working very slowly.  I attempted to restart the computer but it would not allow me to quit aperture.  Now aperture appears in my toolbar but will not open up so I can work on any photos.  Any ideas?

Did you try opening from the Applications folder?
