APerture 2.1.3 Issue

I keyword all my photos, and do it really fast by selecting all the photos i want to keyword, by Command clicking, with say 'Jesse' and then hit my shortcut key '2' and they all get that keyword. This is no longer working since i updated to 2.1.3. Instead of keywording all of the selected photos itr just does the one with the thicker white outline. Another thing i tried is selecting multiple images and rotating them all but only one rotates(the one with the thicker white outline.) Any thoughts as to why this happens or if it can be fixed. Thanks

hi!
maybe you have the "primary variant only" button pressed?
(the square button with"1" in it)
only the selected variant is processed then.

  • Printing in Aperture 3 -- Interface & Presets Issues

I very much like the general direction of change in the printing interface, and I can print with satisfaction as to quality in A3, with my primary printer (Epson R1900). But the creation of printing presets seems not to be able to capture final settings made in the Printer dialogue, nor is there a way in the A3 dialogue to pre-access those functions in order to Save in the Preset. This includes turning off the color management in the printer, and setting of expansion of the print to zero when using borderless. I seem to have to reset these for each print I initiate?
In addition, while I can get a change to a Preset to Save between sessions of Aperture, if I have two or more custom presets, the change to any one of them gets made in all of them?
With the first issue, what I am talking about is what in A2 could be accessed in the Aperture print dialogue with the Print Settings button. With that you could access those items that one also sees after you click the Print button, but by doing so via the Print Settings button, those choices could also be encompassed into the Save of the Preset.
For clarity of what is missing, as least for Epson printers, click on the third screenshot in this below O'Reilly link, to enlarge, then you will see the Print Setting button immediately below the name of printer box:
    http://blogs.oreilly.com/aperture/2008/06/printing-tips.html
I found this to be the same for all Epson printers, at least. But I see no way to access this in A3. This is not a good development if something akin to the Print Settings button cannot be found in the A3 Print dialogue. If achieving this involves selections for the Default Printer that would impact every app that might use this printer, it would not be handy.
With respect to the saving of Presets, I find this mysterious and either a bug or something simple that I am missing.
    Ernie

    Ernie,
there seems to be a bug with saving presets, see
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2349173
    for more info and workarounds.
Printing in AP3 is a 'two-step' process now - there might have been problems to integrate the various options of printer drivers into the AP interface...
    1) AP printing dialog. In AP3 the settings for ColorProfile, PageOrientation, Paper and Printer are saved in the apps preference file, while all other settings can be bound to user-defined presets. This means that changes made to these four will always be reflected to all presets and you will have to check them before you print.
    2) System printing dialog. Here you could define presets for those (printer related) options not available in the AP interface anymore (printing and paper quality, etc.) to streamline your printing. The four settings mentioned above are taken over from AP to System dialog.
I must admit that I personally liked the AP2 way much more, but this one seems to be more compatible.
    Hope this helps,
    Jashe

  • Aperture & iPhoto referenced library issues

    Hi,
For the last couple of days I've been busy trying to get my Aperture library to work properly. I recently started using a referenced library because of lack of space on my internal ssd. I've generated previews on all of my 40000 photos. I can see all of my Projects, thumbnails, metadata etc. when my external drive is disconnected. However, there are two major issues:
    1) Most of the video thumbnails are broken, both in Aperture and iPhoto. By double clicking a thumbnail of a video (.mov, .avi etc.) it sometimes starts playing, sometimes it doesn't, totally inconsistent. I can export the video and it works just fine.
    2) While using iPhoto with the external drive disconnected, all Events are there, the thumbnails are there, everything looks ok, but I can only view some of the previews/photos after double clicking the thumbnails. A dialogue opens up saying "The volume for [imagefilename] cannot be found. Insert the disk or connect to the server volume..", but I can actually see the full size preview behind this dialogue. By clicking "Cancel" the photo dissapears and is replaced by a black screen with a grey exclamation mark. This does not occur while using Aperture, I can see all of my previews in full glory when the external drive is disconnected. However, with the external drive connected everything works in iPhoto (except above mentioned issue with videos).
Please boys and girls, help me out with this!
    System information
    OS: Maverick 10.9.1
    Aperture: 3.5.1
    iPhoto: 9.5.1
    Thanks!
    //Michel

I don;t use iPhoto much so I'm no expert but looking at other posts asking a similar question sems to indicate iPhoto is not capable of doing this.
See Can iPhoto view pictures on a disconnected external drive in a unified photo library? for one example.
Again if Aperture is working correctly on the referenced images on the disconnect drive and iPhoto is not you will need to ask the iPhoto folks.

  • Aperture 3.03 sync issue with Apple TV

    Hi to all,
I would like to ask you for a help in the following issue:
When I sync Aperture with Apple TV I then see that only masters were transferred. When I make some photo adjustments (without creating a version from master) they are not visible on the Apple tv. I can only see a master photo without any adjustments.
How can I transfer a photo with adjustments made on it? Do I have to create a Version from master and then sync only that version with all adjustment made on it?

    Related question from me.
I've got my Aperture library on an external hard drive connected to my Airport Extreme. Now version 3.0.3 of Aperture opens beautifully and reads my library, but when I try to sync my photos with my Apple TV then iTunes doesn't recognise any photos in my library, although it does recognise the projects and albums . :-s
Any ideas? Looking like a bug to me at the moment...

  • Aperture 3.3 colour issues with DNG

I have recently been working in a combination of Adobe Lightroom 4.1, Adobe Photoshop CS6 and Aperture 3
To maximise (or so i thought) compatibility I have been importing my RAW files using Lightrooms "Copy as DNG" option.
All has been going well, except that I have noticed some wild colour distortions for some of these files.
Adobe products do not appear to exhibit this problem, nor does Picassa, but certain purple hues shift to deep blue in Aperture once it generates its preview of the DNG.
I have updated to Aperture 3.3 today and the same issue is present, even on newly imported files.
Has anyone else seen this issue?

Can anyone enlighten me of the circumstances when this would be of concern?
If you had to do high quality printing larger than 8x10.
Before buying PSE trial Pixelmator and try GIMP. Note that GIMP (now v2.6) will have 16-bit per channel with v3.0.

  • Aperture Noise and processing issues

So I've finally got down to processing the same Raw file of a Canon 1Ds and exporting it from Aperture as a .psd. I've taken the same raw processed in PhotoshopCS2 and saved as a .tif.
The shot is over a creek just after a snow. Gray water and trees covered with snow. I have to say, there is such an obvious inferior difference with Aperture full of color noise, color moire, even the image definition is worse. The photosho image is soooo much better that I must be doing something wrong, but I've been preparing images for prepress now for many years. The noise in the water is unacceptable. I could not turn this image in. I will have to do some other tests, but this really surprises me.

I saw this post in another thread as well, and trust me I am not trying to get an argument started. I only want information. I read reviews for all sorts of gear and sw, and sometimes I never see the same issues everyone else is seeing due to my experience or knowledge. So, I went to the ARS site, downloaded each set of files that was shot with the Nikon (not Canon since I don't own a Canon) and reviewed them to see if I could see the issues.
    Cat Photo
The Capture One image seems to have the least noise. Just at first glance, it seems to be the most appealing. It is softer, but less noisy than either ACR or Aperture.
Aperture and ACR seem to have equal noise, although the Aperture noise is different, seeming to have a bit of color (green) to it. But they seem close to me.
the Aperture image seems harsh in that is has edge enhancement or too much sharpening.
    Football Image
Again, the C1 image has the least noise and looks the "best" to me. There is still a great deal of noise in the black sky, but less than either of the other two.
Once again, the Aperture image, if zoomed into the QBs head, has noise that has green color to it.
Looking at ACR and Aperture side by side, ACR looks better to me, but it seems to be a color issue as well, so some of that might be correctable.
    Dog Image
To be perfectly honest, I saw no real differences in these images.
So the post said they were much worse, and from what I see, I don't see the dramatic differences that everyone is talking about. I see almost as much difference between C1 and ACR as the others.
I am not looking to get flamed, but I would like to know what others are considering dramtic flaws so I can get a better idea of what I am not seeing. I am not saying that is not the case, only that my less expereiced eye doesn't see it.
I am not a pro photographer, so I probably am missing something. But since there is a site that has some images we can all use for comparison, why not some objective talk about those images? It is easy to post "My images look horrible with Aperture but great with ACR" but lets use these images to point out to the lesser of us exactly what we are talking about.
And really, lets try to avoid 300% crops to prove the point.

  • Aperture/Photoshop Color Control Issues

I am photographer that has been doing the unthinkable for the past four years – I use the Finder to scroll through pictures I’ve taken and load them one-by-one into Photoshop CS4 for editing. I know this is dumb, and I really want to change my workflow. I’ve really like Aperture, but it has one fatal flaw (and one minor flaw) that is preventing me from using it. I desperately need help, as I estimate I need to review and edit 50,000+ images this year!
I’ll give you as best of a description of each problem and everything I can remember that I’ve tried. Note, that these issues replicate on three different Mac (all also clean installs), Mac OS 10.5 and 10.6, a PC, and the issue is the same with Lightroom 2 and 3 Beta, as well as Aperture 2 and 3. I must be doing something really dumb!
    The Major Problem:
So I start off with a picture like this in Aperture (it may be useful to open images in multiple tabs):
    http://img210.imageshack.us/img210/5585/28037816.png
So, I go to work making my adjustments to the RAW file (a NEF, since I shoot Nikon) and end up with something like this:
    http://img23.imageshack.us/img23/3703/43700549.png
Now I right click on the picture and go to edit it in Photoshop CS4. I have my format set to work in 8-bit PSD files at 300 dpi(Aperture>Preferences>Export), and am using the sRGB IEC61966-2.1 color profile embedded in the picture. My proofing profile in Aperture is also set to this same profile (View>Proofing Profile), as well as the working profile in Photoshop CS4 (Edit>Color Settings). And this is what I get:
    http://img339.imageshack.us/img339/9311/35278285.png
Note that I haven’t made a single adjustment in Photoshop! It just opens that way!
Let’s say I go a step further and try to recover my desaturated image. I’ll apply a series of filters here that I normally wouldn’t for this image, but will do here to further illustrate my point. Here’s what I produce:
    http://img249.imageshack.us/img249/6954/97748984.png
And now for the fun part. I save (File>Save) the image in Photoshop making sure to Maximize compatibility (since Aperture can’t seem to read it if I don’t select this) and Aperture faithfully works to update the preview of the image. Unfortanately, the image now looks like this:
    http://img101.imageshack.us/img101/9811/77252849.png
So basically, I have no color management occurring from program to program. I know photographers use both of these programs successfully, but I just can’t make them preserve color faithfully! It happens with TIFF files, it occurs no matter if I use a PC, or either version of Aperture or Lightroom! I’ve tried multiple Macs and multiple OS versions, and am clearly missing something.
    Help me!
(The minor issue I described above may be corrected if we can get this fixed, so I’ll follow-up if needed.)

Lets see if we can figure this out.
I personally use a calibrated Apple Cinema Display to start with so maybe that makes a difference.
    So, in Aperture do this
    1) edit the image of choice
    2) if you like go ahead and set the onscreen proofing profile -let's use sRGB 2.1 in this example
    — View>Proofing Profile then select sRGB on the top
    3) Then select the "Onscreen Proofing" so it is checked also under the View menu
    4) Go to your Aperture Export presets
    — Aperture>Presets>Image Export
    5) The very top preset usually is "JPEG - Original Size"
    — make sure the color profile is "sRGB IEC61966-2.1"
    — make sure "Black Point Compensation" is NOT checked
Now, the image you just edited go ahead and "export Version" and save it to the desktop
When done open it in Photoshop.
Make sure that your color settings in Photoshop is set to sRGB
HOWEVER, if it isn't, you may get a message that the "embedded profile does not match your working space in photoshop"
NOTE: if Photoshop is set to Adobe RGB , that too is ok and that's when you will get the "mismatch profile message"
So, IF you DO get that message, the rule is ALWAYS Honor the embedded profile of the image/photo
If your Photoshop is set to sRGB too, then you won't need to worry about this.
If your image still looks washed out at this point let us know.
In my case what I export from Aperture 3 looks the same in Photoshop CS4

  • Aperture 2.1.4 issue with Image preview (Browser Only)

    Hi,
I'm using Aperture from some time, from past few days I'm facing issue with my aperture image browser only.
i have few projects created. In some projects I'm unable to see the images in view browser only mode. If I select some other view option it works fine except view Browser only has issue.
any idea how can i fix it.
    Thanks,

    thanks for your reply,
I can see the blanks dashes square instead of thumbnails. and it affected to all the images in a project.
(In one of the other modes, you could select all the images (or just the ones affected) and reprocess the thumbnails). how would i do this...

  • Aperture Graphics and Brushes issue

I've been having a lot of trouble with (what seems like) my graphics using aperture 3.2.1.
Firstly, when applying brushes and zoomed, my graphics go crazy with horizontal and vertical lines. (See screenshot):
Secondly, when resizing a brush, the brush size jumps from small to very big with no middle size, even though the slider is moving. It's like the data for those sizes is missing somehow.
1-I've done all troubleshooting steps including rebuilding my library
2-I tested my library in a different user (same issue)
3-I exported a few and tried it on a different mac (it works fine!)
4-I uninstalled and reinstalled aperture completely (still no dice)
I'm also wondering if this could be a hardware issue with my graphics card (although I doubt it because the graphics only go crazy INSIDE the aperture window)
I'm going to try to do a clean install of my OS but I'm wondering if other people have had this issue. Any suggestions?

Same thing here. It only happens when using brushes while zoomed in. Funny thing is it just started doing it out of the blue about 3 days ago .. no new software install, no new updates and I work completely off external drives so it's not like I've had any major changes. It's rather annoying though

  • IPhoto / Aperture Video Export - Permissions Issue?

    Hello all,
    Setup:
    iMac 3.4ghz i7 16GB RAM
    OSX 10.8.1
    iPhoto 9.3.2
    Aperture 3.3.2
I'm having an issue that's driving me nuts.  I'm not sure how to articulate this properly so I'll walk you through the issue.
User 1 shoots video on iPhone 4
User 1 plugs iPhone into iMac and imports files into iPhoto / Aperture Library
User 1 can play videos in iPhoto or Aperture without issue.
User 2 merges their iPhoto / Aperture Library with User 1's.  (File > Import to Library > Select User 1 Library)
Libraries merge with no problem except for videos.  Videos appear in User 1's Library with yellow "!" and cannot be played.  Thumbnails are black.
    Pictures merge perfectly without problems.
User 1 exports a video from iPhoto (File > Export)
    Kind = original
    Destination = desktop
Video successfully exports to desktop.  User 1 can play the video using quicktime.  Video appears on desktop with full thumbnail.
User 1 copies exported video to shared directory for User 2 to grab.  Appears identical as desktop file when viewed from User 1 account.
User 2 navigates to shared directory and can see file.  But no thumbnail.  Only a quicktime icon.
User 2 tries to launch video and receives the following error:  "The document “Name.MOV” could not be opened. An unknown error occurred (13)"
I cannot locate any documentation of this occurence anywhere.  My wife and I each have an account on the iMac.  She imported video of our recent vacation to iPhoto.  I also imported video from my phone and imported via iPhoto.  Actually, I use Aperture.  When she merges her library with mine, no problems.  Everything comes over nicely.  When I merge her library with mine, I get pictures but the videos don't come over properly.  I can see thumbnails or placeholders for them in my library, but I cannot play them.  Again, switch to her account and they play just fine.
I hypothesize that this is a permissions issue.  I noticed that when exporting video from her iPhoto the permission for the "everyone" account = "No Access".  I have also successfully played her exported video by changing "everyone" to "read only" and adding the "Admin" account and doing the same.  Once I do that, the quicktime icon changes to a thumbnail and I can play the video from my account.  I believe that whatever is causing this permissions issue is also preventing videos from being merged between the two libraries.
Now, the only difference between my account login and my wife's is that she does not have a password on hers.  Actually, her password is blank.  My next step is to place a password on her account and try this again.  I'll report back with my findings.  In the interim, has anyone run into this issue before???

Okay, as I'm working through this I see that I have to add the "Admin" account to each file with "read only" permission.  Simply changing the "everyone" account access does nothing.
So how do I change the permissions settings in iPhoto or Aperture to give each exported file the desired permissions?  I cannot locate a setting in the iPhoto or Aperture applications.
Also, I added a password to the user account.  It did not change how files are output.

  • Aperture 3.1 loop issues possible bug with CMYK/RGB numbers in loop?

I'm looking to find out if I'm not the only one with this problem:
After upgrading to 3.1, I've noticed that when I do my color correction of skin, by the numbers using CMYK in the loop, that on a number of images, I can no longer get the loop to read the numbers in the top third of the image. No differences in the camera used, import process, asset management, nothing about my process has changed.
    Thoughts?
    Thanks in advance!

I'm curious too if anyone else is having an issue with the loupe in Aperture 3.1.
I noticed I was getting false reading when checking color as well. The numbers were way off as you have expressed or did not read at all in a vertical images. Where as the number under the histogram seem to be correct when checking numbers. From what I've seen here it must be a issue with other or they must be using their loupe.
    K-
Hey there Kevin, I'm sure we will talk on the phone again before you read this!
I'm using this as a work around for now but, what a bummer! I've tried to see if the issue is present on my other machines and using other cameras and - it still is. Since no one else has chimed in here to share if they are experiencing these loop issues, I'm wondering if it is just you and me. Maybe no one really uses the loop with color values to color correct their images.

  • Aperture external editor & plugin issue

My Aperture (3.1.2) seems to have developed a problem today
Whilst trying to process using the Photomatix plugin the program seemed to hang with the message 'preparing image.... for editing'
I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling, deleted the Plist and then it worked a couple of times and them stoppped again.
I tried uninstalling again and reinstalling, rebooted the program and computer and its still not working.
I also tried exporting to Photoshop but this appears to have stopped too - sticks at the message about 'prepaing the image for editing' again??
The other plugins seems to work ok but the fact that I cannot export to PS makes me think its more than a Photomatix problem?
Everything worked until today and I don't believe anything has changed
    I haven't tried reinstalling Aperture - should I??
Any help or suggestions would be appreciated
    Thanks
    Steve

feel a bit of a numpty now - the drive where the photos are stored was completely full - all but 33k
deleted a bit and it all started working again, i'd also repaired permissions etc - somewhere in there something reconnected anyway

  • IPod touch and Aperture 3.1 syncing issues

I can't sync photos from Aperture 3.1 with iPod touch and iPad iOS 4.2.1.
The strange think is that only the first picture of the event is synced but not the rest.
Another strange think is that the most recent event syncs fine and it consists of several hundred pictures. The other not so recent events sync only with the first picture.

  • Aperture 3.4.1 issues - incl. doesn't work with Topaz

I have recently returned from holiday and auto-updated Aperture to 3.4.1.
There were some minor problems.  My plug-ins all wanted their serial numbers entered, but that was easy.
However, I also use Topaz labs software as an external editor (and also a plug-in).  The program is called photoFXlab.  Although I have set it up in Preferences -> Export and pointed Aperture to the program, when I try to use it the photograph I am working with doesn't come across to photoFXlab.
Under Preferences -> Export I have set the file format to be TIFF (16 bit) at 300 dpi, but it appears that Aperture is not creating this file.
I'd be grateful for suggestions on how to fix this.
    Thanks!

    Hi Michael,
I've now tested this on my iMac (OSX 10.8.2) and I too cannot get photoFXlab to run as an external editor. It can be selected in preferences but does not export an image and nothing appears to happen.
It works fine as a plugin though, allowing layered images to be created and having access to the other Topaz Plugins. Can you access photoFXlab through this route? Does it offer you the functionality you need?
The notes on the Topaz site suggest that photoFXlab replaces Fusion Express as a plugin (more like a link to allow access to the other Topaz plugins), however, I'm able to run both alongside each other and can use each interchangeably depending on the task. photoFXlab is a more flexible and fully featured gateway.
I've had photoFXlab since release when running OS10.7.x and had no problems installing it under Lion. It has worked fine (as a plugin) since upgrading to ML.
As I'm writing this I'm beginning to wonder if photoFXlab is designed to run as an external editor in Aperture? Or if any users have had any success?
    HTH
    Ade
EDIT : Just reopened Aperture. When photoFXlab was used as an external editor it did create a new version (16-bit tiff as per my preference settings) but this did not export / launch photoFXlab.

Did you move move your library to a new drive? Is your drive formatted MacOS Extended and a local volume, or is it a network volume? See:
Aperture: Use locally mounted Mac OS X Extended volumes for your Aperture library: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3252
Check the ownership and permissions on the drive, also the "Ignore Ownership on this Volume flag", and try to launch Aperture on this volume by double clicking the Library.
