Aperture 2.1.4 - hanging, loading, bad preview pics.

Hi,
I hope that somebody can help me on this topic here. I have recently updated to 10.6.2 and 2.1.4 aperture. But the issue is now, that the RAW/NEF pictures appear terribly 'pixelized' - they appear on the screen in a bad shape, while the JPGs are ok, thumbnails are ok, too. That was not the case before those updates (not sure which of those caused it, really).
The color ball is turning forever and memory/CPU consumption seems to grow, when trying to display/edit such NEF file (which come from a Nikon D300, btw.).
Anyone out there, who had a similar issue.
J.L.

Thanks for your comments.
So I have tried the following: repaired access rights, removed plist.prefs + library & rebuilt library -> unfortunately no success, the 'older' imported RAW/NEF images of the D300 still did appear in a bad resolution.
Then: I have downloaded 3.0 and now it works, it is still loading all the projects, but on the first view, the RAW guys are looking fine now.
Thanks for your help & have learned a lot here.

  • Muse slideshow really slow to load in Preview

    Muse v7.2, new healthy iMac:
Building a 24 image slideshow with small images (50 to 150 kb size), but they take FOREVER to load in preview (a 75 kb image took 2 minutes to load)! Please help! Thanks!

Thanks for the reply. Here’s what I figured out, after a prolonged chat with an Adobe tech: The Preview feature doesn’t seem to work very well, either the Preview button or file > Preview Page (or Site) in Browser. The Tech had me switch browsers (from Firefox to Chrome), and dump the cache, still no good.
She then had me Publish the site, using the Publish button (or file > Publish…), and the site came up quickly, and the pics looked great, not pixelated like they were using Preview. When you publish, you make up a name and add the businesscatalyst.com suffix, and hit publish, and your page/site comes up on your default browser.
I built another page with a slideshow, tested it, and on the whole, it loaded quickly (sometimes would hang on a single image, not sure why). At any rate, I feel like I understand the process better, and have a sense of what the problem was.
    I hope this helps,
    Mike

  • Show device and media in Photo-loader, Iphoto, Preview

    Hello,
I'm new to the " mac World" and I can say I'm very excited about my new imac with snow leopard on it !
Have however one small problem (??)
Fact is that, if I connect either a digital Camera, a Camcorder or just a SD card using the external card reader, it takes a long time (approx. a minute and a half) before Iphoto, or photo-loader or preview show the connected device. (In photo-loader it takes another minute before the media is shown)
The device shows on the desktop instantly after connection, problem is only in photo-loader, Preview and/or iphoto.
Resolution etc doesn't effect the time, tried it already with lower picture resolution. It seems to be the recognition of the devices thats very slow.
Is this normal behavior or is there something wrong ?
    Anyone experience the same ??
    Thanks !
    Gr. Franz

Hi Franz & welcome to the forums.
It seems to be the recognition of the devices thats very slow.
All I can tell you is that the common denominator with those sources is apparently USB, which is typically the slowest bus on your computer.
Not sure what you can do except to try to use at least USB2 devices. All it takes is one older USB 1 type device on the bus to slow things down. How old is your digital camera? Card reader? Camcorder? USB camcorders are usually quite slow for file transfers, in my experience.
For me, the delay seems minimal. I can however, imagine it taking as long as you quote if the number of images is considerable, in which case your example would seem typical.

  • Need to load complete preview before playing from the iTUNES STORE  No such selection.

REBUFFERING STREAM is constant during preview of songs.   The solution suggested by the community was to: Go to iTUNES preferences>STORE and select "LOAD COMPLETE PREVIEW BEFORE PLAYING.   I tried that but the STORE does not offer this option.   WHAT NEXT?

I have the same problem with my iphone 4 . I solve it with giving permission to the cookies on safari from the settings.

Bug? Aperture 3 asks me to load S/N on start up. I have to load Aperture 1 and then Aperture 3 S/N.
Is this a known bug? Is there a workaround. Jo Daniell

Did this happen all of a sudden or after migrating Aperture to a new machine? The serial number cannot be migrated. If you moved Aperture with Migration Assistant, use the installer media to reinstall it and upgrade immediately to the current version using Software update.
And yes, when you upgraded Aperture from earlier versions and bought upgrade serial numbers and not full version serial numbers, you will need to enter all previous version serial numbers. Do you still have them? If not, try this Pro Application Replacement Serial Numbers
when the support site is up again.
If you did not migrate Aperture recently. look at my post here, how to fix the ProAppSystemID file:

  • My firefox is loading Bad quality images, but actully the images are perfectly alright

My firefox is loading Bad quality images, but actully the images are perfectly alright

In my experience, print quality settings such as dpi/ppi are hidden in your printer driver settings and not directly available through Firefox's UI. In the print dialog, if you click the Properties button, you hopefully will gain access to this setting. Obviously native web resolution (96ppi) can give disappointing results, so hopefully you can find a place to increase it.

  • Premiere Pro CS6 not loading/linking preview files - any suggestions?

    MacPro 2010, 16-core, 2.66 GHz, 32GB RAM, Quadro 4000, OS X 10.7.4
When I save a Project and then reopen it, Premiere Pro CS 6.01 does not load the Preview Files from the Renders.  I have checked the specified Preview Files location and the files are there.
In order to work, I must render the entire Project again - which is too time-consuming and counter-productive.
Am I doing something wrong?  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Same problem. I've done many projects in CS6 and this is the first time it's happened. FIrst half of the timeline was fine but the second half of the timeline, that was previously fully rendered, couldn't locate the preveiw files. The preview files are still in the preview folder but it doesn't see them in the timeline anymore. How do you delete those preview files since they are no longer recognized in the timeline? I know you can manually delete them in the preview folder by playing them and matching them to the video clips in the timeline.

  • My aperture keeps crashing after a recent transfer of pics from card reader

running 10.7.2 and Aperture version 3.2.2.  Recently was transferring files from an Memorystick pro duo in a card reader (which has been done many times before).  Everything seemed to transfer fine and i ejected the card.  That's when the trouble started.  I haven't been able to run Aperture since.  The program opens up, then says it is "procesing" after being open for several seconds.  Then it crashes and shuts down and an error message comes up.  Don't know what to do and would hate to lose many pics!!  Help please!!!!!  First part of error message is copied below (let me know if more of it is needed):

Will it be a problem if i uninstall/reinstall Aperture?  I shouldn't lose my photo database, correct?
No, reinstallation will not affect your database.
I haven't tried with a Guest account, is it really worth trying?
I suggested that, to narrow down the source of the trouble.  The usual reasons for crashing are:
    A corrupted Aperture database
A newly imported corrupted image inside your database
    Inconsistent Preference settings
Insufficient permissions to access parts of your database
Wrong formatting of the dirive containing the Aperture Library
Network problems, if the library or masters are on a network volume
    Insufficient memory or hard disk
    Incompatible Aperture plug-ins
Incompatible frameworks in the system library (may be cause by installing third party apps, most often Final cut or other multi media software)
A problem with the Aperture Apllication itself
    A problem with the OS
    Broken hardware
    User error
If your error message is so unspecific, it may be looking for a needle in a hay stack to find clues.
If Aperture does not crash when working from a different account (not necessarily the guest account  - any other new account you create for yourself for testing purposes will do) then the reasons 5-12 will be unlikely, since those are system wide problems. Then you should try to fix your library and preferences.
If on the other hand it even crashes working from a different account, I'd suggest to reinstall Aperture or reinstall Lion, since the problem is not tied to your account.
If other applications are acting up, too, I'd recommend to run a hardware test and to repair your system volume.
To fix Preferences and Library, see here:
    Aperture 3: Troubleshooting Basics: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3805
I did try that eventually and while it allowed me to access Aperture after i completed that, once i closed it and opened it the next time it began crashing again like before.
Since you already did repair your library, try rebuilding next and removing the Aperture Preference file and presets, as described in the trouble shooting basics. After a crash it is really a good idea to rebuild the library and recreate the preferences, since crashing and/or force quitting can leave those inconsistent.
If you can work after repairing, but then Aperture crashes again, this looks very much like a single, defective image inside your library. Do you remember the projects you imported recently? The next time you start Aperture, I'd defer the generation of Previews. Press the Shift key immediately after you start Aperture to prevent preview generation for that session. Then inspect carefully your most recent imports.

  • My iphoto9 has not been able to open for over 10 days!!  I can't load my Christmas pics, etc.  I know the pics are still there because I can access them through a round about way.  Can anyone help me to OPEN iPHOTO!?

My iphoto9 has not been able to open for over 10 days!!  I can't load my Christmas pics, etc.  I know the pics are still there because I can access them through a round about way.  Can anyone help me to OPEN iPHOTO!?

    To re-install iPhoto
    1. Put the iPhoto.app in the trash (Drag it from your Applications Folder to the trash)
2a: On 10.5:  Go to HD/Library/Receipts and remove any pkg file there with iPhoto in the name.
2b: On 10.6: Those receipts may be found as follows:  In the Finder use the Go menu and select Go To Folder. In the resulting window type
    /var/db/receipts/
    2c: on 10.7 they're at
    /private/var/db/receipts
A Finder Window will open at that location and you can remove the iPhoto pkg files.
    3. Re-install.
If you purchased an iLife Disk, then iPhoto is on it.
If iPhoto was installed on your Mac when you go it then it’s on the System Restore disks that came with your Mac. Insert the first one and opt to ‘Install Bundled Applications Only.
If you purchased it on the App Store or have a Recent Mac you can find it in your Purchases List.

  • When i turn my mac pro off and then back on it dosent load my login pic and says updated needed!!

when i turn off my computer and turn it back on it won't load up with my login pic jus a plain screen and empty pic!
with the words updated needed under the empty pic. however if i jus put t into sleep mode it will load up the pic as it should. bit hard to explain.

Boot into your recovery partition (restart, hold down ⌘R until you see the Apple logo), and use Disk Utility to repair your hard drive. Repair permissions too while you're there. OS X: About OS X Recovery

  • Tell a Friend not putting preview pic in Mail

I have a MobileMe gallery on 24" iMac. When I click "Tell a Friend" Mail opens and provides a stock message and a link but not the preview picture with the black background and "View Album" link like I get on my MBP. The iMac is fully updated.
Is there a setting in iPhoto or Mail that needs to changed to get the preview pic?
    Thanks,
    Marcantonio

Close iPhoto and delete the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your User/Library/Preferences folder. Launch iPhoto and try again.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 6 and 7 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. Just put the application in the Dock and click on it whenever you want to backup the dB file. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.
Note: There's now an Automator backup application for iPhoto 5 that will work with Tiger or Leopard.

  • Aperture 3.5.1 Stuck "loading assets...."

I have 164,532 items in my main Aperture library (when I click on Photos under Projects, that is what it tells me). When I connect my iPad, or iPhone for that matter, to my Mac Pro 2009 Mavericks (20GB RAM at the moment, as one of the sticks went bad), After a while it looks like it is showing all the pictures/videos on the iPad (or iPhone), when I try to import, I can select the images/videos I want to import, but nothing happens when I click the import button. "loading assets..." never stops. I can leave the iPad connected all night, nothing will change by morning. So, with my iPhone, I created an empty library, and imported all of my pictures/videos from my iPhone without any issues. Both my iPad and my iPhone (had) have over 10,000 pictures+at least 100 videos on them. Is there a fix for this? Thanks.
    Doug

Do you have the option "Do not import Duplicates" enabled? If you already imported from the Photo Steam, this option will prevent downloading again. That you could import into a  new, empty library suggests that either the library needs repairing or you already are having imported these photos earlier, perhaps from the Photo Stream.
If yu cannot access the Import setting, try the following: Open the "Activity Viewer" before importing. When you are seeing Aperture stuck on "Loading Assets", try to select that line in the Activity window. If possible, press "Cancel task".
In any case, repair your Aperture library after the force quit.
Aperture 3 User Manual: Repairing and Rebuilding Your Aperture Library
Your Aperture library may have become corrupted, so that the Import dialog cannot access the database files inside.

  • In Aperture, why do my RAW images momentarily preview well, degrade into extreme colour fringing

    EOS 60D, EF 50mm f/1.4 USM.
Shot at f/1.4, ISO 3200, Auto white balance
I've loaded the images into Aperture 3.0, and they preview well while the images are loading (I'm assuming they're JPEG previews) then heavily degrade in quality after the image has fully loaded.
Is this a camera, lens, or Aperture issue?

I have no experience with what you are seeing but I can offer, my Mac buddies complain about poor performance with some of the Mac OS's and certain post processing software. I would start troubleshooting there.
