Aperture 3.1.1 quits at start up.
I purchased Aperture 3.1.1 through the App Store and everything was working fine until just now when I got in and tried to load the application. Now every time I try to start Aperture I get an error message telling me that it won't work with this version of OSX!
I can't install the update because I've already got the latest release, and the App Store won't let me reinstall the Application either.
I'm running OSX 10.6.6 and I'm purchased the latest version of Aperture as well (3.1.1). My computer is a 2.16gHz Intel core 2 duo 24" White iMac with 3GB of RAM.
Can anybody help me out with explaining what might have gone wrong here?Thank you for the help and advice. I don't know if I've solved the problem permanently yet but it appears to be working now, and the way I got it to work was to download the trial version and start using that. Now ehenI launch Aperture from the doc it shows it as v3.1.1 not v3 as the trial version is.
This might help anyone else with the same problem I suppose.
Thanks again for help and advice.
Btw: I don't have Final Cut on my machine but I am planning to so Is there a clash between the two? -
I have this problem since quite some time. I open Aperture, just look at some images and then I want to quit the program again, but it doesn't, it takes literally hours until it finally quits.
I tried restoring the whole thing from one of my vaults, in the hope to get rid of this problem, I moved the Aperture Library to the Shared User Folder to get it out of my User Folder (which is protected by FileVault to avoid any related problem that could be thinkable) but nothing helped.
Doing a dtruss -p on Aperture to see what Aperture is doing during that time reveals that Aperture is renaming files. Here I copy one of those blocks to show what is happening:
open("/Users/Shared/Aperture Library.aplibrary/Veranstaltungsfotos/auSnahmeZustand 1 - idragon.approject/09.06.2008, um 07:42:17 PM - 1.apimportgroup/_DSC4740/.dat150a.adc\0", 0xA02, 0x180) = 15 0
write(0xF, "<?xml version=\"1.0\" encoding=\"UTF-8\"?>\n<!DOCTYPE plist PUBLIC \"-//Apple//DTD PLIST 1.0//EN\" \"http://www.apple.com/DTDs/PropertyList-1.0.dtd\">\n<plist version=\"1.0\">\n<dict>\n\t<key>createDate</key>\n\t<date>2008-06-09T17:46:28Z </date>\n\t<key>dateLastSavedInDataba", 0x914) = 2324 0
rename("/Users/Shared/Aperture Library.aplibrary/Veranstaltungsfotos/auSnahmeZustand 1 - idragon.approject/09.06.2008, um 07:42:17 PM - 1.apimportgroup/_DSC4740/.dat150a.adc\0", "/Users/Shared/Aperture Library.aplibrary/Veranstaltungsfotos/auSnahmeZustand 1 - idragon.approject/09.06.2008, um 07:42:17 PM - 1.apimportgroup/DSC4740/DSC4740.NEF.apfile\0") = 0 0
chmod(0xB04B0696, 0x81A4, 0x914) = 0 0
umask(0x0, 0x81A4, 0x914) = 18 0
umask(0x12, 0x81A4, 0x914) = 0 0
I have no idea why this renaming of (I guess all of my images) is really necessary on each quit, but that is exactly what seems to happen. What also appears curios to me, is that the order of file renamings does not follow any reasonable structure. The Program renames one image in one folder then in another than after a while in the first folder a.s.o. It's really odd.
To tell something about my configuration.
I use an Apple MacBook Pro with the Aperture Library that contains only previews and thumbs. The Library contains about 65000 images (most of them RAW image Files (NEF) from Nikon D1,D2 and D3), but also some JPGs, PSDs a.s.o.
The Original Images are located on a NAS System (Thecus via SMB). When working with Aperture everything works but on quit it starts the mess.
Hope anyone has an idea or at least the same problem, so I see I am not alone and Apple is aware of this bug.I tried without the NAS beeing mounted and Aperture starts up in a seond and quits in a second. So it seems that availability of the originals is a case. Then I mounted the volume again and started Aperture and now Aperture is currently making the rename thing again. I really go mad here. Working without the originals is no alternative really. But if the problem is that the originals are located on a NAS I know what to do. I don't like it really, because having all originals on my Raid5 protected NAS is what I spend a lot of money for.

Aperture 2.1.4 quits with Lion.
Aperture 2.1.4 quits several times a day. Started after installing Lion (10.7.2). I run Mac Book Pro 2.4 GHz Intel Core Duo with 4 Gb of RAM. Thanks, Juan
I upgraded to Lion 7.2 from OS X last Sept 2011. Apple 2 had been working fine. In fact, it has worked perfectly, so far as I recall since I upgraded in Sept.
Today I have this message, repeated ad nauseum
Error message from Aperture at startup:
Protection Exception
This application cannot continue because another application with an identical serial number is already running on another computer on your network.
However, I do not have Aperture 2 on the other iMac in the house, or elsewhere. (Well, there is a copy of my Ap 2 sitting in my old G5 iMac. But it is not powered or plugged in to anything)
I have a couple of addins. I added Export to Zenfolio, added about 14 days ago, and Export to facebook has been there for months, or years.
I have no duplicate fonts in my Font library.
When I bought my new iMac in May 2011, I was advised not to upgrade to Aperture 3 as a new version was likely. Besides, Ap 2 performs totally OK for what I need. I uploaded a dosen albums to Zenfolio in the last fortnight with no problem.
It's a mystery.
However, since I would like to ensure my Aperture DB is backed up to a Vault before I migrate to Aperture 3, I need to be able to run Aperture 2.
Perhaps all I need to do is remove the Aperture Addons. How do I achieve that?
Anything else I could try?
Thanks. -
Upgraded to Aperture3.4 but application quits on start-up. Solution?
Upgraded to Aperture 3.4 but application quits on start-up. So unable to use Aperture. Solution?
What app is it? Some users are having problems with some apps having iOS 6 update. It seems that some app just do not work with iOS 5 and they will require the developer to update the app.

Has any one experienced this with the most recent update? My iTunes won't open it just quits on start up. Help!
Try deleting the preferences for iTunes. That should stop it crashing on start-up. Since you mention your friend is running 10.4.9, they should really update to 10.4.11. There were a number of framework links that were updated in later versions of Tiger that might cause the application to crash consistently. Also if your friend has Shapeshifter installed that will also cause iTunes to crash.

My ipod touch will start to charge then quit the start ect. why?
my ipod touch will start to charge then quit the start ect. why? if you know how to fix it plaese say
Try:
- iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
- Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode
How to put iPod touch / iPhone into DFU mode « Karthik's scribblings
- If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
- Try on another computer
- If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

Photoshop CC quits after starting, when used as a trial - works fine
Hello,
I've purchased Photoshop and Lightroom bundle (combined deal for 12.99 Eur/Month), the problem is, whenever I try to run photoshop - it immediately quits after starting. Tried logging in and out of Creative Cloud with no luck. Reinstalling photoshop didn't help either. However, when I switched to another account and started photoshop as a trial it works fine (albeit for 30 days as of now). Lightroom (full version) and Bridge also works fine. Seems like the problem lies in Creative Cloud account and not in software. Anybody has any thoughts?Windows 8.1 has given a few people problems regards video card drivers, but I wouldn't think that would cause a crash on launch.
So you have the Desktop Application Manager installed, and from there you installed Photoshop CC as a trial. You used it in trial mode for a period of time, but have now paid for a sunscription?
How long did you go with the trial period before purchasing the subscription?
Did the trial period expire?
Has Photoshop CC ever worked since you took out the subscription?
Have you done anything else like add fonts, or third party plugins, or a graphics tablet?
Just to make sure, check you definitely have the most up to date video card driver. You might be able to use the auto checker (Iit needs Java installed)
http://www.nvidia.com/Download/index.aspx?lang=en-us
I don't think it will help, but again to be sure, reset Preferences (hold down **** Ctrl Alt while starting Photoshop)
After the above makes no difference, I guess you need to reinstall.
Unistall Photoshop from Control Panel.
Download and run the Cleaner tool
http://helpx.adobe.com/creative-suite/kb/cs5-cleaner-tool-installation-problems.html
Restart your computer
Right click and run the Desktop Application manager as Administrator. (If it thinks Photoshop is still installed, Quit and sign back inagain.
Install Photoshop.
If you have problems after that, come back.
Good luck -
On my RMBP (10.8.2) Aperture 3.4.3 will not start due to a database error. Command+Option start of Aperture is giving me the same error and not giving me a repair/rebuild choice. My iPhoto library (migrated from iPhoto to Aperture a couple of weeks ago) is kept on an external LaCie SSD which I have been unmounting when I take the MBP to work. I did notice earlier today that I had a '/Volumes/LaCie' and '/Volumes/LaCie 1'. Rebooting the MBP caused the '/Volumes/LaCie 1' to go away and I only see '/Volumes/LaCie' now.
The precise error I'm getting is "There was an error opening the database for the library “/Volumes/LaCie/iPhoto Library”. "
Suggestions? It was in the middle of a Flickr sync and I disconnected the external LaCie cable (Thunderbolt) because I coult not get the disk to dismount because Aperture had it open while sync'ing. A lesson learned was to unset the automatic Flickr sync option from Aperture.
This can corrupt your Aperture library, and even the file system on the drive so that you may be unable to mount it. Really no good idea.
Aperture has a buil-in facility to stop running activities. Launch the Activity Viewer (from the main menu bar):
Window > Show Activity.
In this window you can see the status of ongoing activities and may cancel them safely.

Screen flashes black when quitting and starting up applications
Hi there;
I've done a quick look around the internet and these forums to see if I could find any more on this problem, but no such luck. I've bought a new 15" MacBook Pro in June, it's the 2.66 GHz Intel Core i7, 4GB of ram. I'm very happy with it, but ever since I got it, the screen has been giving really short black flashes whenever I quit an application or start one. It doesn't happen all the time; maybe once every 10 times I quit or start something, and seems to happen mostly for quitting applications. They seem to be random as well; so it's not always the same applications that give me a black flash when quitting them.
Although obviously a minor problem (it's really a quick flash, so just a few milliseconds probably) I would love to have this fixed. It happens both when it is connected to a power source and when it is not. The only thing I can think of is that when I got this MacBook Pro, I've transferred all my files and settings from my old 13" black MacBook (2008) using Time Machine, so it might have to do with weirdly transferred preferences or something?
I hope someone else knows some more about this. Thanks in advance!I realise I'm replying to myself here, but I thought I'd let anyone watching know that there is a cure for this, although it's not perfect if you run on battery a lot..
If you disable the GPU switching (System Preferences->Energy Saver->Uncheck "Automatic Graphics Switching") then the flickering no longer happens.
It must have been happening whenever an application requested a switch from the Intel GPU to the NVidia GPU (which explains why it seemed to happen more often when starting, quitting or switching applications). Not ideal if you're on battery, like I say, but .. it bugs me that much that I'll live with less battery life! -
Main Aperture 3 will von mir beim Start ständig die Seriennummer. Warum?
Macintosh HD > Library > Application Support > ProApps.
Macintosh HD > Library > Application Support > ProApps Verzeichnis.

ITunes unexpectedly quits after start up--Please Help!
My iTunes has been quitting after start up 75% of the time. I was wondering if there is any one who knows what I can do about this. Some extra info: I am running iTunes version 7.1.1 and have all of my music on an external 80GB hard drive. I desperately want to clear up this issue and any help would be much appreciated.
Try to repair Disc Permissions and Verify Disk on MB and external HD.

My computer is running slowly and the DVD app quits on start up
Firefox and Facebook made my computer slow. It started with "Warning unresponsive script error, would you like to stop or continue" this happened all the time while looking at FB. Then it killed my iChat somehow. So while trying to fix iChat, it said in a forum, to delete your cache.... so I did and that made my comp. worse. Now I can't use DVD player or VLC player. They quit during start up. What can I do to fix it and get it back to playing DVD's? I can still use the internet but if I click on something it can take a long time to change tasks. Can I fix this myself or do I need to take it in?
You are certainly welcome!
Good job getting all of that information from your computer, as well! :-)
Now, all of those processes that you "delete" (quit/force quit) from activity monitor should automatically restore once you restart your computer. Before a restart, however, the lack of the quitted processes should speed your computer up a bit.
You said that your second login item was "swf desktop." .swf is a flash file (usually an animation). Do you have some software running that is giving you some sort of motionized desktop image? This is a HUGE CPU hog (I know from experience) and would greatly slow your computer down. I would recommend removing that item from your startup items list.
I am not entirely sure what all of your login items represent, however, I do know that by default from a fresh install of Mac OS X, none should be present. I would actually advise to remove all of those items from your login items folder, unless you know more information about the items. Note: If you want any changes to take effect after removing login items, you must restart your computer and log in.
Clearing your RAM does not involve deleting a single bit of information from your hard drive. To clear your RAM, shut down your PowerBook, disconnect the power adapter (piece of hardware that plugs into an outlet in your wall), pull out the PowerBook's battery (If you have an Aluminum PowerBook, grab a coin of currency and use it to turn the silver disk on the bottom of the computer near the battery to the unlock icon. If you have a Titanium PowerBook, slide the slider on the side of the battery to the right and the battery should "pop" up), and wait about 10 minutes for the PRAM battery inside of the PowerBook to drain, thus erasing all RAM contents and not the hard drive information.
It nothing seems to be helping you PowerBook, a hard drive whipe and resinstall may be the easiest route.
As for backing up your hard drive data, I am sorry you are having errors. There are many ways to get around it, though. One way would be to boot a live CD of Ubuntu Linux for PowerPC. To do this, download the .iso file from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/ports/releases/8.04/release/ubuntu-8.04.1-desktop-powe rpc.iso. Once the download is finished, you'll need a blank CD to write the file to. To do this, open DiskUtility.app and drag the downloaded .iso file to the left-hand side of the Disk Utility window (where all volumes show up). Select the .iso file within Disk Utility and burn it to a disk. Once the process is complete, insert the CD into the CD-ROM drive of your PowerBook and shut it down. Once it shuts down, press the power button (top right) on your PowerBook and hold down the "C" key on your keyboard. This will tell the PowerBook to boot from watever volume is found in the CD-ROM drive (in this case, the Ubuntu Linux CD). You may be prompted to a black screen with some white text, giving you options on what to boot, as well as some information about your display. Do NOT install Ubuntu Linux, or else it will erase the contents of your hard drive. Choose the option that will allow for you to "live" boot the CD (run without installing). This will probably take a good few minutes to boot. In the event that your display does not work properly, restart, boot from the CD, but use the command where it talks about getting your display to work properly. Once you successfully boot Ubuntu Linux, click on "Places" (top left-hand corner of the desktop) and select your internal hard drive (Macintosh HD, or whatever you named the partition). You can then plug in your external hard drive, and select it from "Places" as well. With the two windows open, drag the wanted files from your PowerBook's hard drive window to the external hard drive's window in order to copy the files. Once the transfer is complete, restart your PowerBook. You shouldn't have to hold any keys down to get it to boot back up into Mac OS X but if it doesn't boot, hold down the option key on your keyboard and select your PowerBook's internal hard drive. Make sure that your files were successfully backed up before you do a reinstallation of Mac OS X.
There are also simpler ways to back up your documents, keeping in mind that you don't HAVE to back up your documents to your external hard drive. You said (I belive) that you could still send email from your PowerBook. Can you just attach important files (possibly indvidual files at a time) and email them to yourself, which would allow you to log onto your other (properly-working) computer and download the files to it's internal hard drive? This could take quite awhile and certainly a last resort.
Another, more-easier and effecient way, in my opinion, would be to transfer the files over your home network to your other working computer (your newly-purchased MacBook Pro). To do this, on your PowerBook, open system preferences, click the "Sharing" icon, and check the box that enables file sharing.
Now, on your MacBook Pro on the same network, conect to your PowerBook over the network. This can be done by (on your MacBook Pro) clicking on the Finder icon (bottom left corner of your computer screen (left-most icon in the Dock)), clicking "Finder" (top of screen in the task bar) and "Preferences." Once the Preferences window is opened, click on the "Sidebar" tab. Check the box that will show "Computer" in the left-hand side of any finder window. Close the preferences window. Click on your computer's name at the top right-hand side of your Finder window. Double click on the "Network" icon (a blue/purple sphere). Double click on your PowerBook's icon. You will most-likely be prompted to enter in some information (username and password). Enter in the proper requested information, and the contents of your PowerBook's hard drive should display in the finder window. Click-and-drag the wanted files from your PowerBook's window to a location on your MacBook Pro's hard drive. Depending on the size of the files and your Wi-Fi router speed, this could take some time. In the event that you are not using a Wi-Fi connection on a home network, let me know, and I will give other options that will allow you to do computer-to-computer file sharing (such as with an ethernet or firewire cable).
This stuff certainly takes time... One might suggest to free up a day with nothing going on to really get things done. Don't get frustrated, as I'm here to help and am fully confident that we'll get this all figured out! :-) -
Logic 8 wont open, unexpectedly quits on start up
Hi all, im having a big problem with Logic right now. It unexpectedly quits on start up, in what im pretty sure is during the initialization of core audio since it doesn't go past that... any help would be much appreciated. Thanks you.
AndrewDo you get a crash report?
Do you have DAE enabled or disabled? (should be disabled if you're not using Digi hardware).
Do you have Universal Track Mode enabled?
Does the samplefrequency on your interface match the Logic project setting?
Have you tried refreshing the prefs? Like so:
0. Export your custom Key Commands (if you have any) from the Key Command window
1. Quit Logic.
2. Find the file com.apple.logic.pro.plist here: 'yourdisk'/Users/'you'/Library/Preferences/
3. Drag it to the Desktop
4. Start Logic. It'll create a fresh .plist file. Now see if your problem is gone or not. If it is, you can trash the .plist file on the desktop and reimport your previously trashed keycommands. If it isn't, you can quit Logic and put the old .plist file back, if you want to.
regards, Erik.

Alert message freezes iPhoto and iMac
Most of the time when I try to work in iPhoto, a message appears "Alert... photo cannot be found". Cancelling brings up another alter message regarding another photo - these photos are ones that I did not want to keep and deleted/moved-to-trash etc.
