Aperture 2.1.4 update will not load after Snow Leopard update

Has any one found the fix for aperture 2.1.4 update not loading after the installation of Snow Leopard. I to am also getting the alert "aperture 2.0 or later is required to install the update". I installed my copy of aperture 2.1 using the installer with no problems so the program is in the correct location. I've seen the posts related to this problem and it does not seem a fix has been found.

Just ran into this myself. I did check to see if there was a preference to delete under ~/Library/Preferences and one is not created since 2.1 is never actually launched. 2.1 is sitting in the root of Applications and hasn't been renamed, but the 2.1.4 update just doesn't detect that it is there and just gives the alert "Aperture 2.0 or later is required to install this update."

  • OS will not boot after Snow Leopard Upgrade

I have a MacPro (Intel). I just upgraded to Snow Leopard and everything appeared fine. However, after restarting my computer the OS will not load. A circle with a hash through it replaces the Apple logo and the apple's spinning wheel continues but all drive activity. I have tried to run the install again by forcing the computer to open the dvd drive then booting for the OS DVD but this has not worked. Has anyone experienced this and successfully resolved?

You have a five year old computer, so a failing hard drive at this point is not so strange. You have a couple of options you can try. Start with this one, but if it does not work you will have to erase the hard drive. I hope you have a backup of all your files.
Reinstall OS X without erasing the drive
    1. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from your Snow Leopard Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior and/or Tech Tool Pro to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.
    2. Reinstall Snow Leopard
If the drive is OK then quit DU and return to the installer.  Proceed with reinstalling OS X.  Note that the Snow Leopard installer will not erase your drive or disturb your files.  After installing a fresh copy of OS X the installer will move your Home folder, third-party applications, support items, and network preferences into the newly installed system.
Download and install Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1.

  • Macbook pro will not boot after snow leopard upgrade

My GF has had a macbook pro since mid 2008.  It's been running like a champ since I've known her for the past 3 years with  no issues.  It has/had OSX 10.5.8 installed.  We tried to consolidate all our pictures from all our apple devices and realized she didn't have an icloud on the old 10.5.8 OSX.  So I called apple and they told me to order and install the snow leopard OSX 10.6 first and then upgrade to lion etc after that,  Well we got the disk yesterday popped it in to install and it's been a disaster.... the computer shutdown for what looked like a normal restart during the installation process and never booted back up.  Attempts to manually reboot leave us locked on a grey apple logo screen with spinning gear indefinately whith the Snow Leopard disk installed during boot up.  With the disk removed I get the flashing file folder with a question mark.  I called apple support we tried all the PRAM and SMC resets and then decided that we should go  to the Genius Bar once all those failed.  After an hour and a half drive to the nearest genius bar we were told that the we suddenly had a hardware issue which just happened to coincide with the new OS installation....  I'm not buying it and am looking for some help.  The macbook was running like a champ until we inserted a disk recommended by apple...   Any takers?

  • Firefox will not load after an auto update

I am running Windows 8.1, 64-bit operating system. I think that FireFox automatically updated today and now I cannot start FireFox. I get a box that states add-ons are being checked for compatibility. The 32-bit designation is shown and it just spins and spins and will not go beyond that screen. I've tried everything I can think of to start FireFox but nothing seems to work. Help I'm having to use IE and I hate it.

Create a new profile as a test to check if your current profile is causing the problems.
Do a clean reinstall and delete the Firefox program folder before (re)installing a fresh copy of the current Firefox release.
Download a fresh Firefox copy and save the file to the desktop.

  • Adobe After Effects CS4 will not load to Snow Leopard

Recently My hard drive crashed. I reloaded Snow Leopard on my computer and all of my support applications.
I attempted to load Adobe After Effects CS4, but it would not load.
I read where others had problems back in 2009.
Is there a fix for this problem?

Mmh, something is leaking. Are there any other Adobe products on the system that use MPEG CoDecs (Premiere, Encore, Adobe Media Encoder). If so, my best guess would be that those are not installed correctly or were messed up during an update or so. That stuff is shared by all apps and while your system is not ideal, it certainly should work and not give this error. Depending on what is going on, only a full re-install of everything might fix it, though, unfortunate as it may be. So make friends with the CS3 and CS4 Clean Scripts from the support pages, set aside a good afternoon and take some deep breaths...

  • Aperture will not work after snow leopard instalation,

    Hi,
I have avoided upgrading to Snow Leopard but my children bought me the upgrade for Christmas as they want me to use Face Time. So I did, now aperture will not open and it says contact the originators of the program. I am a pro photographer and all my current work is on Aperture and I have a wedding in two days time and so this is somewhat disturbing as all my post production in done in Aperture. Can anyone help me I have done all the software upgrades etc.....

Are your images files managed in the Aperture Library, or Referenced? Do you have an external disk drive in the configuration, and if so, is it formatted as Mac OS Extended?
If you hold down the Option key while clicking on the Aperture Icon in the Dock, do you get the dialogue that allows choosing between different Aperture Libraries, or even creating a New Library?

  • ISight not working after Snow Leopard update?

I just realized my iSight isnt working. I dont see it in System Profiler and I remeber prior to the Snow Leopard upgrade the iSight was working fine.  This was three months ago, since the update i never had to use it until now.  I tried resetting the SMC, I tried the command + option + p + r and still nothing.

    •  If you have not already done so, restart Mac and
try again.  If the iSight still does not work, continue.
    • If Apple's http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2090
suggestions do not help you, (are you certain that you
used the correct "reset" procedure?), yours may be a
hardware problem that will require a professional fix.
Unless you have a current backup, make one now.
Then consider the final "Troubleshooting" suggestion:
"... contact Apple or an Apple-Authorized Service Provider for service."
    • If I understand correctly, you are now using Snow Leopard.
If you want to try one more thing on your own before
seeking professional help. use Disk Utility to repair permissions.
Then download and apply the latest Combo Update
for your OS.  The latest SL Combo Update at present is here:
         http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1399
    • Repair permissions again immediately following the system restart
       that completes the Combo update.
Properly applying the Combo version of updates
can sometimes correct problems like yours.

  • AE CS4 Will not open after Snow Leopard Upgrade

Ok, i posted this earlier but I don't think I was clear enough to get an answer. I recently did a clean install of Snow Leopard and a fresh install of my Production Studio CS4. Upon getting it all installed, I realized that After Effects will NOT open at all. It just bounces on the Dock a few times and then stops. Then after that, when you click on it, it bounces once, then stops. Every other program works great, only after effects is not working. Why is this? Is there something I need to do? I reeinstalled just the AE and downloaded the newest update, still, the same thing. I would appreciate any suggestions to get it running.

I experienced this when upgrading to Snow Leopard myself.
After Effects is one of many, many applications which require Rosetta to be installed. In Snow Leopard, Rosetta is an optional install on the disk. So just make sure you install it.
Now, the thing also is that once Rosetta is installed, the OS still seems to have AE flagged as an app which requires a missing component to launch. This was fixed after a couple of restarts, in my case.

  • Gmail won't load after Snow Leopard Update (safari 4.0.3)

When I try and access gmail I get the following
    Safari can’t open the page.
Safari can’t open the page “https://www.google.com/accounts/ServiceLogin?service=mail&passive=true&rm=false& continue=http%3A%2F%2Fmail.google.com%2Fmail%2F%3Fui%3Dhtml%26zy%3Dl&bsv=zpwhtyg jntrz&scc=1&ltmpl=default&ltmplcache=2” because Safari can’t establish a secure connection to the server “www.google.com”.
Firefox loads gmail fine. I've do not have google gears installed and I've reset safari several times now. www.google.com wouldn't open at first, but after the rest it loaded. Gmail has not.
    Thanks in Advance

After I installed Gears for Snow Leopard It worked fine.

  • Time Machine will not backup after Snow Leopard.

    Pertinent information:
    Macbook Pro pre-aluminum body
Time Machine backing up over network to a ppc mini with 500 gb external drive.
This worked fine with Leopard for over a year. I installed Snow Leopard last week and this is the first time I got a chance to try a Time Machine backup. Doesn't see to want to backup no matter what I do.
    I tried:
    - Renaming the sparsebundle
    - Disconnecting/reconnecting the external drive.
    - Re-selecting disk in Time Machine config and nothing works.
    - Even ran Verify Disk and Repair Disk on the external drive. Found a header error, but Disk Utility said it was minor and fixed it.
It seems that Time Machine isn't even trying to figure out what needs to be backed up. Here is the log. Below this snippet of the log I will post some of the other things I see...

also everything is slow and "jerky" such as typing, emails etc. have disabled and enabled plugins many times but no result. Should I try uninstalling firefox 4 and starting again. had no trouble with oldar version

Thanks cor-el looks like Oracle need to update their linux installation instructions then. If only I'd have known that before doing all sorts to get it working.

  • Safari will not work after Snow Leopard Install

Safari does not work. It opens briefly, then closes. I get a message to "click reopen to open application again," but the same thing happens. Please advise.

    Janice,
    Quit Safari if it's open.
    Locate this file. com.apple.safari.plist
/Users/YourName/Library/Preferences. Drag that file from the Preferences folder to the Desktop.
Launch Safari. If it launches without crashing, then that .plist file is corrupted. Drag it to the Trash, empty the Trash and restart your Mac.
    If Safari still crashes...
Go to ~/Library/Caches/Safari and delete all the sub-folders within that one.
Go to /Users/YourName/Library/Safari and delete Home/Library/Safari and delete any of these files you have there:
    Downloads.plist
    History.plist
    LastSession.plist

  • Mac will not boot after Snow Leopard install

I recently had a HD crash.  Replaced the HD and installed Snow Leopard from a image file on an external HD.  Install went great.  I copied over data files and things seems just fine.  My first reboot after the install and the Mini won't boot.  I am stuck with the Apple Logo and a spinning wheel.  I ran disk utility and the new HD checks out fine.  When I boot with the external HD, it still sees my Mini HD.  I tried restarting with Command/Option/P/R but that didn't do anything.  Any advice?

I'm in a slightly similar spot- no crashes, but-- What I want to hopefully do is run my Tiger ppc apps (3) for CAD on my New- 5 weeks old) Lion Factory Installed machine. The ( November) First Aid Issue of Mac Life mentions a way
way to get external boots, UNLESS they are the Factory installed ( Lions). In the meantime----

  • App Store updates will not load.

App Store updates will not load. It shows that I have 4 updates but all I get is a blank white screen. I have also tried closing the app and restarting my ipad and it still will not work.

Many people are having this problem for the last couple of days. According to Fly150 in another discussion, this will work.
If you want to update the Apps while waiting for Apple to fix Updates:
    1. Go to App Store
    2. Select Purchased
    3. Select All
    4. Scroll down to find the Apps showing update
    5. Select update on the Apps
This should update the Apps and get rid of the update count in App Store.
