Aperture 2.1.4 with Mavericks
I am using Aperture 2.1.4 which worked perfectly for many years until I installed Mavericks. Now Aperture crashes every time I try to open it. What can I do?
The curious thing is that my old version of Aperture 2.1.4 continues to work well enough with its original large library, but crashes if I import any new images. I have reverted to iPhoto, but never liked it, so am still considering investing in Aperture 3.5. However, when you look at 'most recent' feedback at the App Store there is a lot of criticism and negative comment, particularly concerning the amount of memory required by the new version of Aperture. My iMac has always managed very nicely with 3GB memory, but will it be ok for Aperture 3.5? I would hate to buy the programme and discover that it works in slow motion!
Apart from Aperture, there seem to be no problems using Mavericks on my iMac. However we have also installed it on a 17 inch Macbook Pro with two users and there are two definite drawbacks:
1. Switching between users takes much longer than previously.
2. Shutting down also takes much longer, with a period when the screen just turns grey.
What is happening? Will this be corrected with updates?
Another query. My daughter, who has a 13 inch Macbook Pro with the previous OS, has started to worry about security. Does she need to update to Mavericks to keep up to date with Mac security? Will her Miocrosoft Office 2008 for Mac continue to work properly with Mavericks?
Any advice on these issues would be appreciated!

Why can't i use aperture 2 with maverick 10.9.4
I recently purchased aperture 2.1 to try it will load on my mac pro but i can't open it just says you can't use this version of aperture with this version of os x
Try to run the update to Aperture 2.1.4 (download here: Aperture 2.1.4 http://support.apple.com/kb/DL913).
Some members have been running Aperture 2.1.4 with Mavericks, but it has many problems. Try to return Aperture 2.1 as incompatible to whoever sold it to you and ask for a refund. -
How can I use Aperture 3 on my new iMac with Maverick?
How can I use Aperture 3 on my new iMac with Maverick?
Do you own a copy of Aperture, perhaps bought for another Mac?
If you have not bought Aperture, you need to buy it from the AppStore.
But if you own Aperture and have it bought from the AppStore on another Mac, sign into theAppStore on your new iMac with the same AppleID you used to buy Aperure on your other Mac. Then look at the "Purchased" tab of he AppStore. It show Aperture, with the "Install" button to the right. Simply press the "Install" button and download it to your new iMac. Or if you have bought Aperture on a CD/DVD, run the installer from the CD/DVD on your new mac and immediately run software update to upgrade the Aperture 3. version to version that will run with Mavericks.

Will aperture 2 work with mavericks?
I have just upgraded to this Mac and was not succcesful in getting my Aperture 2 to work properly, is this possible.
We have no idea how long you will have to wait for a hypothetical Aperture 4. For two years Apple has added all improvements to Aperture 3 instead of releasing a new major upgrade. I for one, I am content with getting the improvements for free as part of Aperture 3, instead of having to pay for a new version number "release 4".
Even, if you only want to use iPhoto with Mavericks, it would be a much smoother transit to iPhoto, if you could convert your Aperture 2 ".appprojects" to Aperture 3 libraries. Then iPhoto could open them like an iPhoto library and you would save all your editing and tagging work. Aperture 3 is a great companion for working with iPhoto, see: Aperture 3.3: Using a unified photo library with iPhoto and Aperture
Does anyone in your family or a friend own Aperture 3.5.1 and could upgrade your Aperture 2 libraries for you? Then iPhoto 9.5.1 on Mavericks could open your Aperture libraries for you losslessly, once you upgrade to Mavericks. -
Maverick and Your System message
I've updated my Macbook Pro and my iMac with Maverick, updating the various apps (Pages, Aperture, iPhoto, Numbers & iMovie, too) in the process.
On my Macbook, everything functions perfectly. On my iMac, I get the Your System has Run out of Application Memory message. But it's not Calendar, it's Mail that not only won't open, but when it does now, it takes the entire system out with it.
I open Safari, and it works. I open Firefox, and it works and Safari still works. I open Calendar and it works, Safari and Firefox continue to work. I open Reminders, and everything still works.
I open Aperture, and it opens Finder instead, showing the 3.5 update that was installed two days ago (and Aperture has functioned), but doesn't seem to update the app; after about 20 seconds the update disappears and I can now open Aperture and it shows I'm now opening the updated Aperture, which it didn't show before.
I click on Mail, and the cursor spins for ten minutes. The mail window finally opens, but the cursor spins and does not connect to upload new mail, and I finally Force Quit Mail. Since the Maverick update, even though Mail was not updated (and maybe because Mail was not updated), I have been able to receive emails twice, and then the program crashed.
Besides the Aperture app, Pages didn't fully update on the iMac, and I had to remove the old Pages icon from the dock after the new program loaded up from Applications.
Any ideas?Maverick and Your System message

Can't open Aperture after Snow Leopard to Mavericks upgrade.
Upgraded to Mavericks from Snow Leopard. Now, the Aperture icon in the dock is greyed out. When I try to open it I get the message that I have Aperture 3.2.4 and it can't be opened with Mavericks. I purchased Aperture from the App Store when I had Snow Leopard and it shows in my purchases list, but when I check for available updates nothing shows. I have US English in my preferences, and Aperture is in my Applications file. I tried to update Aperture with 3.4.4 as an interim step from the Apple website, but got the message that I had to update from the App Store.
Any help appreciated.
RussCould there be anything interfering with the App Store connecting to Apple's servers? Firewall, antivirus filters? Any problems with your AppleID? Credit card expired, the answers to your security questions too short, an too simple password?
In some cases it will help, to boot into Safe Mode before connecting to the AppStore. Try to load the updates page while booted into Safe mode, see: Mac OS X: Starting up in Safe Mode -
Cannot Run aperture 2.1.4 with Yosemite
Unfortunately after updating to Yosemite found that Aperture 2.1.4 that was running OK with Maverick is now an unsupported Software. How can Apple do this?
The installation process was not quick so I think that the developers should have a bit of the Customer Hat on and scan the HD for incompatible Software and alert that some specific software is not going to run after the update BEFORE go ahead and give the Customers a Hard Time, and this is an Apple Software.
I am not sure that somebody will come with the solution other than buy the Upgrade but at least I wan to set the record straight. After several years of loyalty with Apple I think that now a lot of users may want to reconsider keep supporting this brand unless the Developing head and Team start to think more like a Customer.
ThanksThanks, appreciate the feedback. Aperture 2.1.4 was a paid application, actually I paid U$200.00 for it and should not be banned form the OS that the very same vendor develops.
But stil the point I want to make is that Apple OS Should run a Hard Drive Scan and advice about potential issues like this before proceeding with the installation, at least the user can take an educated decision and not be frustrated because of the ugly surprise that comes after the update is completed.
I have Aperture 3 installed in a MacPro but I had a terrible experience with the last major update, to the extent that Apple Engineers worked with me for a solid two weeks in order ot identify the problem and come with a new minor release to correct incompability with 3 TB Hard Drives. With that experience I did not want to risk for more headaches and maintained Aperture 2.1 in this other machine, it worked OK with Mavericks.
As I stated in the original post, I do not expect that somebody tells me that I need to update, kind of know that. The concern is that Apple has been increasingly careless with the Customer experience with the last updates they released, another example is the iTunes / Podcasts mishap that kept the forums quite busy for a while. The new iTunes has a UI that is quite different from the previous version and same issue with older one. I see that is fancy but recalling the famous phrase about a Mac is the computer I would buy for my mother... I see that consistency should be the key in order to keep audience loyal, very few people is willing to learn ahow to use the very same application with every new update, that in some cases you are forced to install in order to be able to access your content or connect the peripherals you may own.

Also on my Macbook Pro with Maverick 10.9.1. Aperture 3.5.1 hangs if I try to import files.
If I chose a folder containing *.mov, *.mp4, *.wmv or other not supported files, Aperture hangs immedialtely.
I asked apples support today. They recommended to update Maverick to 10.9.1.
So I did. But I had no progress with the Aperture problem.
The second recommendation was to chage the language of the Macbook to english. But also this had no effect to the described problem.
And now?
Best regards, Ekkehard Makosch

There may be other software that is causing your problem, but the Blackberry software regularly crops up as being the cause of slow-downs or unpredictable behaviour. Try uninstalling it using the uninstaller that is hopefully available from Blackberry.
Hopefully others will spot this thread and have some other suggestions. There are a few entries for things I've never heard of (not that that means much ), but there's a chance that they are not compatible with Mavericks and could be contributing to the sluggish performance. -
Add or change Contact Photos with Maverick
Add or change contact pictures is not working in Contacts with Maverick! Editing or Changing Contact Photos by double clicking on the photo box opens a menu with the options of: Defaults, iCloud, Faces, and Camera. However if I try and use Faces, the only thing that comes up is a message: "Find and organise photos of people in iPhoto or Aperture using Faces" No Photos load! And yes I do have Faces set up in iPhoto.
So you don't get anything when editing the photo? No window of any kind?
Do you have any other editing issues with those contacts? You could have a corrupt index file that is not letting you edit them.
If it is not a corrupt index, a workaround for putting in photos is you can drop images into the photo frame. -
Bad conversion for RAW file with Maverick
Hello,
I own a SONY Alpha A6000 camera. When I shoot my pictures in JPEG, no trouble. When I shoot my pictures in RAW, the pictures are overexposed after conversion in iPhoto.
In the list of camera supported by iPhoto (and Aperture), the SONY Alpha A6000 is not present.
Can you tell me when we will have a new update for RAW conversion with Maverick ?
OS X 10.9.3
iPhoto 9.5
Thank you ;-)
Bruno. It looks like we have been speaking/writing at cross purposes
Your question raised two aspects - the RAW support for your specific camera, and how raw support is working in Aperture and iPhoto generally.
You are right, the camera is not on the list of supported cameras. Apple is not supporting all cameras, and some will never be supprted. I am waiting since four years for the support of my camera. Since your camera is not supported, you should not be using the raw with Aperture or iPhoto. As I pointed out, it is a bug, that you are able to process the RAW files at all in iPhoto or Aperture. iPhoto is using the RAW conversion for a different camera. Be careful, when Apple corrects this bug, you may no longer be able to open these RAW files in iPhoto.
But the second problem is the over exposure. It is unlikely, that this is due to using the RAW support designed for a different camera. We are seeing this problem continually in the Aperture forum, when in-camera settings are used. It is due to the fact, how Apple's RAW developement works. It disregards in-camera tags. You will see the same effect, when the proper RAW support for your camera will finally be released. That is why I pointed you to Keith Barkley's great user tip. It describes the only safe way to work with RAW photos in Aperture and iPhoto:
( The Big Three: Setting your camera for the best Aperture RAW results)
As long as you are using in-camera settings, you will never see in your camera generated previews, what the RAW files are like, that you are recording.
And we cannot predict, if and when your camera will be supported. -
I7 Fully loaded iMac becoming unusable slow apps not responding with Mavericks
Very frustrating. My 2012 iMac with an i7/16Gig memory is crawling with Mavericks. It didn't start out that way, but it's almost unusable now. I will get a few minutes of seeming to work fine, then periods of long lasting slowness. Evening typing an email will have a delay where typing will not come out as I am typing it for a few seconds, then it all bursts out. Simple interactions get spinning beach balls from 5-45 seconds. The activity monitor shows nothing taking any particularly large amount of processor load, memory pressure and status is all green & good. Some disk activity but nothing that should account for the lags. Loading applications, the system grinds to being unresponsive. Adobe applications and running aperture have delays in activity from 5-60 seconds in simple interaction. The activity monitor then shows several of the larger apps (iTunes, Aperture, Premiere Pro) as Application Not Responding. It can take from to 30 seconds (if Im lucky) to several minutes for the system to become responsive again. Sometimes it never does.
I have run DiskUtility /repair permissions several times with no real results. There are documented issues with Finder being slow to pull up files and directories. I ran the fix for that as well as the slow restart/bootup issues documented. Those fixes made a difference but not with the overall issue of the system just grinding to a halt.
Has anyone else seen this, any suggestions on what to do to fix it? Im spending more time fighting the computer than getting my work done.Very frustrating. ESATA express card does not work with Mavericks. Any suggestions?
This is an Apiotek II 300 Express Adapter. I went out to Apiotek.com and it appears the domain is for sale. Is there any way to get a software update or do I have to buy a new Express Card that allows eSATA drives to work with Mavericks. I did a backup before I upgraded using X 10.7.5 and everything worked fine. The eSATA drive is not seen using Disk Utility either.
Thanks for any help or suggestions. The driver has to come from the manufacturer of the card, so your two options are to get another card or to use your full backup to go back to 10.7.5. That assumes it's a clone backup and not Time Machine.

There are unsupported mechanisms of doing what you want. You can search for iTunesFS.
Garage Band should allow you to send Ring Tones to the 3GS via iTunes - GarageBand '11: Send an iPhone ringtone to iTunes -

I am doing a lot of analyses with 10.9.2 on a late 2013 MBP, and these analyses generally last hours or days. I observed that Maverick is slowing them down considerably for some reasons after few hours of computations, making it impossible for me to work with this computer...
