Aperture 2.1 not recognizing my Sigma 120-300 F2.8 APO EX IF HSM DG

It gives me this as my lens used: Sigma 17-35mm f2.8-4 EX Aspherical HSM which of course is not even close.
Can an admin let the people know about this one. It would really help to get this corrected.
Thanks

  • Aperture & Lion not recognizing Canon 1D Mark IV videos

Upgraded the 17" MBP i7 to Lion.
When I import 1D Mark IV photos and videos from a CF card, it takes forever if there are videos on the card. It's fine if there's not. And when the videos come in to Aperture, they're not recognized as video files (even though they're .MOV files). Quicktime Player plays them fine.
Did 10.7 nuke something from Canon that I have to re-install?

The issue seems to be that /Library/Quicktime had a lot of outdated Quicktime stuff. I noticed QT is now mostly in /System/Library/Quicktime, so I deleted everything in /Library/Quicktime and now it seems to work.

ive tried this on a number of computers and it does the same thing
when i unplug it from being plugged into the computer it just sits in diskmode saying ok to connect

  • Aperture Not Recognizing Duplicates When Importing From iPhone. PhotoStream is Involved.

Apple makes great software. Aperture is not some of it.
    Here's my setup:
'11 MacBook Air OS X Lion
    Aperture 3.2.2
    iPhone 4 ios 5.0
1.5 TB External Drive. Aperture Masters and Library reside there, separate from each other.
I keep my photos in a structure such as: Aperture Masters > Year > Month > Date > original_photo_name
I'm running into trouble with Aperture not recognizing what photos are duplicates when it comes time to import photos. My workflow is that I'll import photos every so often, leaving them on the iPhone, and delete them twice a year.
    ISSUE 1 (The Annoying One):
Aperture is showing a lot of photos that have already been imported even if I select "Don't Import Duplicates". Aperture has done this for a long time. I know that when it comes time to importing them, it doesn't import the duplicates, but this is just a sign that something doesn't work very well. (Maybe it's because I switched to an iPhone 4S and then back. I synced all my photos, and then back again to my iPhone 4, so the sequential number of the photos remained intact. I don't think that's the problem though.). This is just a minor annoyance that shows that Apple can suck at software (remember MobileMe?).
    ISSUE 2 (The serious one):
short version: Some photos on my iPhone won't sync to my Aperture library because it thinks they've been synced through PhotoStream. They are not in my Aperture Library or in my Aperture Masters in the filesystem. How can I fix this. What bloody file do I have to delete for Aperture to stop being confused?
longer explanation: When iOS 5 came out, I was excited by PhotoStream. I had enabled it on my MBA, through iPhoto (I hadn't installed Aperture on it yet, as I was using an iMac to manage my Aperture Library). I believe it synced a bunch of photos from my iPhone, but then I stopped using it on my mac. Left it on on my iPhone. Installed Aperture. I initially enabled PhotoStream but swiftly disabled it once I was not sure how it would deal with photos being uploaded from my mac etc - just seemed like too much magic was going on. I then proceeded to sync my iPhone, not importing duplicates, and it synced a bunch of photos, but didn't sync some of them, displaying the following message:
Any tips on how to fix this and be able to import those images would be greatly appreciated.
P.S. - I thought that iPhoto might be causing the problem. I checked there and there were some images imported through PhotoStream, but not some of the ones which were not imported on Aperture. Putting that another way: the iPhoto library accounted for some of the images that were not imported, but not all of them. I deleted the iPhoto Library and tried reimporting with Aperture. Still no luck.

I have precisely the same problem. Very annoying. Worked fine with iPhoto, borked with Aperture 3.

  • Aperture 2.1.4 not recognizing my library

I have Aperture 2.1.4 and yesterday as I was importing photos, I got an error saying I needed to rebuild my library.  So I go to do that, and get a permissions error (even though when I checked the details on the library it showed that I have read and write permissions, like usual).  Now it's not recognizing my library.  I've checked the preferences and the library is in the Pictures folder like it should be, and that library is selected, and even when I open the application from the library itself, it doesn't load it.  I've checked the package contents on the library and all of the folders are still there, so what's the problem here, and is there any way to fix it?
    Many thanks.

I case you did not see my update this is the error

  • HT201071 I just downloaded the Digital Camera RAW Compatibility Update 5.01 to a brand new Aperture program and it WON'T install because it's not recognizing my NEW aperture program.

I have the latest software and operating systems (Aperture, and OSX 10.9.1), and just downloaded the RAW update that Apple said to download, only to have my installation quit because it's saying I do NOT have the right Aperture program (I have the latest....just bought it yesterday).  Does anyone have a clue how to fix this, or did Apple put out that Nikon D610 is compatible when it really isn't?

All fixed!!!  My Aperture wasn't being recognized because it was in a folder.  OK, now I can use my camera with Aperture.

  • Camera RAW, file not recognized after import and migration, Aperture 2.1

    Hi,
I have recently purchased a 1DMKIII and am constantly getting "file not recognized" after I import and even after migrating RAW files. My 1DS MK1 RAW files have no issues. The RAW files render just fine using CS4 bridge. Any ideas here on a fix? Other than ditching Aperture (not desireable)
    Thanks,
    Greg

    Hummmm..I have just 'manned-up' from a 2gb macbook running tiger+CS4 to a iMac 24" 8gb running leopard BUT!
I shoot RAW and the iMac will not recognize the NEF RAW files! this is soo frustrating - tried to update Camera Raw but to no avail.
please help! I've got 987 raw wedding photos to process!!
I dont know what to do!

  • Aperture not recognizing Canon G-10 RAW Files?

All of a sudden Aperture is not recognizing my G-10 RAW files. It did yesterday, but not today. I just downloaded the new aperture update thinking that might change things, but no go. Just says "unsupported file format"
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks, Shane

What is your import workflow? Are you (appropriately) uploading images first to the hard drive before importing into Aperture? Was the card (appropriately) reformatted in-camera before shooting the new batch of pix?
Direct camera-to-Aperture or card-to-Aperture workflows can be problematic, as can using the computer for erasing card images or reformatting cards.

  • Pentax K3 Raw pictures are not recognized by Aperture 3.5. Importing these photos leads to error message. Any tips?

I recently bought the Pentax K3 SLR. Before I used the K5 with Aperture without any problem. Now when i try to import raw images the message is "image not recognized". It makes no difference if I use the DNG Raw or Raw+ or the PEF pentax raw format. Jpegs are no problem but I want to use raw data. Does anybody have any hints?

Each raw support is camera specific - different sensors, different lens.
Apple has been pretty quick with raw support lately, a new raw support release every few month, but it is very hard to predict. Some cameras have never been supported. I am still waiting for the support for my camera after three years.
You could use the camera specific software to convert your raw files to a supported format, while you are waiting, or shoot raw+jpeg, and use the jpeg as originals. That can be reversed, when the raw support is available.

I have a canon 7d and my aperture version 3.4.5 is not recognizing the raw format? The Can not review any raw photo in the adjustments/raw fine tuning controls.

When i click on the adjustments everything is grayed out and the messages states " Image Not Found'.
Are you seeing broken arrows or yellow warning triangles, when you enable badge overlays?
That looks, like your original image files were missing.  Are your images referenced or managed?
Create a smart album with the rules "Files status is missing" or "Files status is offline". This will show you any images, where the original raw files cannot be found.

  • Sigma 18-250 and 17-70 HSM (Pentax) not recognized by LR3.2

    Dear all,
I noticed that the two lenses are not recognized/identified in Lightroom 3.2:
    - Sigma 18-250 HSM (for Pentax)
    - Sigma 17-70 HSM (for Pentax
I bought these lenses just one months ago. So I do not know, if this is LR3.2 specific.
Other lenses are recognized, e.g. Pentax DA 40.
Does anybody have an idea, what the problem is and what I can do about it?
    Best regards from Cologne, Germany

Nevertheless I see things much simpler:
For some lenses things work fine (e.g. PENTAX DA 40mm limited). For other lenses it does not (e.g. SIGMA 17-70mm OS HSM for PENTAX mount).
Reason is: The list of lenses in cameraraw.dll is simply not maintained well.
I am able to maintain the list. Why can't Adobe?
You are assuming that any change you make is safe and will not affect 1000s of users.  You can only affect your own install. You need to consider the bigger picture.
CameraRaw library does way way way more than just contain lens metadata. Just look at some of the function names. It is a util library that offers a lot of services.
Change is risk.  Adobe updates Lr regularly. As part of those updates sometimes MD support is updated and the entire library properly QAd in a sensible manner.  What if some small bug is introduced, and Adobe has to track 100s of versions of some library across how many releases of Lightroom or Adobe Camera Raw? Suddenly your "simple maintenance" becomes a maintenance nightmare that is actually harder to resolve than the original, harmless, problem.
It is always safer to restrict changes and to limit the number of revisions of released code.
Adobe just inherited this mess; they didn't create it. It makes no sense to arbitrarily track every single possible metadata change when that adds significant risk for 1000s of users for very little benefit.  Honestly, if I have to decide between risking bothering a few Pentax users with this lens and breaking the app for an entire user base, who do you think is going to win?
Let's hope the next rev of the EXIF standard solves this mess. Until then, applications will always lag behind real life.

  • Aperture 3 not recognizing iPhone

Aperture 3 will not mount my iPhone. I've ensured that Image Capture and iPhoto will recognize it, I've checked the setting to open Aperture when a camera is connected, I've tried different ports and cables, and I've restarted my Mac and the phone. It just won't show up. Any ideas? I have an iPhone 4 and everything is updated to the latest and greatest.

Yeah I'm having the same problem. When I plug in the iphone Aperture automatically loads but instead of bring up an import window (as it does whenever I plug in my camera) it does nothing. The only way I've figured around this is to actually plug in my camera at the same time. That brings up the import window for the camera, and then its just a matter of clicking on the iphone. Kind of a pain though if every time I want to import some photos from the iphone I have to get out the camera/cables etc. Any suggestions? Anyone...?

  • Aperture Not Recognizing iPhone Jpegs

Has anyone else had a problem with Aperture having issues with jpegs from iPhones while having no problems with jpegs out of other cameras?
The problem is characterized by selected jpegs turning back and displaying a triangle with exclamation mark and  words declaring that the image is an unsupported format. It also appears to affect some (but not all) iPhone images at time of import leading to the inability to import batches of images from the iPhone while having no problems with either RAW or jpegs from my Panasonic GH2
This problem has happened to me twice now and the only solution that works is rebuilding the Aperture Library.
I find it strange that it affects iPhone images only and wonder if this is a known Aperture issue or not.

Upon further testing, it looks like maybe the photos I took with "Camera Genius", a third party camera app don't save the camera model as part of the metadata. Looks like only the photos taken with the actual Apple camera app will log the camera as an iPhone.
So, question #2. How can I change the camera/model metadata (painlessly please ) of those that are "unknown"?

  • [solved] Digital Camera not recognized in device-manager

My digital camera "Canon Powershot SX120 is" is not recognized by the devicemanager. I have read Digital Cameras.
    $ groups
    wheel storage users printadmin
The "camera"-Group isn't needed anymore and this group doesn't exist on my system.
The Powershot SX 120 has a  MTP/PTP connection mode (as the manual says). But:
    # mtp-detect
Unable to open ~/.mtpz-data for reading, MTPZ disabled.libmtp version: 1.1.6
    Listing raw device(s)
    No raw devices found.
    gphoto succeed:
    $ gphoto2 --auto-detect
    Modell Port
    Canon PowerShot SX120 IS usb:002,019
A gphoto --summary could be found here
There is no udev-rule for this camera. If i create one while copying a rule from a similar camera from /etc/udev/rules.d/69-libmtp.rules, and store it into /etc/udev/rules.d/69-canon.rules, the device-manager shows up. My udev-rule:
    # Canon PowerShot SX120AX (PTP/MTP mode)
    ATTR{idVendor}=="04a9", ATTR{idProduct}=="31e0", SYMLINK+="libmtp-%k", ENV{ID_MTP_DEVICE}="1", ENV{ID_MEDIA_PLAYER}="1"
The device-manager shows me only the option to open with a file-manager. Doing so will result in an error:
The file or folder udi=/org/kde/solid/udev/sys/devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:02.1/usb2/2-8/ do not exist.
    With my udev-rule:

    Device Added:
    udi = '/org/kde/solid/udev/sys/devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:02.1/usb2/2-8'
Without the active udev-rule, "solid-hardware listen" produces nothing, but
    udevadm monitor
monitor will print the received events for:
UDEV - the event which udev sends out after rule processing
    KERNEL - the kernel uevent

Don't know what to do ... is a udev-rule necessary to bring up the message from device-manger? Or is the Camera not recognized as a mtp-device (the Camera has no such settings)? How could i figure it out?
With Digikam i could import Fotos, but i would do so with gwenview. I've tried to check it out with gwenview_importer:
    $ gwenview_importer --udi '/org/kde/solid/udev/sys/devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:02.1/usb2/2-8'
QDBusConnection: session D-Bus connection created before QCoreApplication. Application may misbehave.
gwenview_importer: Missing required source folder argument.
(don't care about the different udi, i took this example from a former try) but i don't know, how to find out where the "source folder" is ...

I have solved this by making an extra udev-rule for my camera. See my adventure on forum.kde.org for details

  • Firewire ports, USB ports, and CD/DVD drive not recognized.

I have a G3 PB with 2 FW and 2USB ports. I am running 10.2.8 with 256MB RAM. Upon starting this AM, I noticed the CD that was in my CD drive was not recognized. Nothing on the desktop. I have a 120 GB LaCie external firewire drive which was not recognized either. I tried a Lexar 2 GB thumb drive in the USB port but again nothing on the desktop. Here's what I have tried without success:
1.) Several Restarts.Drives removed during start. Hooked to different ports after restart with no sign of drive on the desktop.
    2,) Resart With extensions off
    3.) Zapped the PRAM
4.) Started from Systems disk and noted both external drives seen by the startup disk but thumb drive stated that it
    wasn't mounted.
5.) Ran and fixed permissions on internal hard drive. Ran disk first aid. Restart again from internal drive would not recognize ports.
6.) Created a new user account hoping a fresh account would recognize the peripherals but no luck.
7.) Now wondering, if drives are seen by System install disk but not internal drive, is the OS askew in some way and if there are any tricks anyone knows to bring "sight to the blind"?

How about running TechTool Deluxe (Comes on your Apple Care CD)
Also, run Repair Disk from your Install Disc one (1).
TechTool might show some things, and Repair Disk, from Disk Utilities on the install disk (1) might help repair some unknown issue.
Another also, (Try after the afore mentioned, and/or before run Disk utility to see if the thumb drives mount in the Drives column) from your App./utilities/disk utilities.
