Aperture 2.1 vs Epson 2400

Hi,
I,ve succefully installed the upgrade from Aperture 1.5.
All is ok about libraries and RAW management, but .... it's impossible to print !
I've a Epson 2400 as printer and it's all ok with all others software on my Mac (Photoshop Elements 6, Nikon Capture NX 1.3, ... )
When I try to print a image, Aperture opens correctly the print-window, were I can seen the printer, but it's impossible to use the "print settings" and the "print" commands.
Maybe is it necessary to set something?
Thank you

What OS version?
There was an issue with a recent security update which affected printing in Aperture. Though, I don't know if it only affected Aperture 2, or would have affected 1.5 as well.
Try installing all Software Updates from Apple, if you're on Leopard.

  • Epson 2400 - Can't print tabloid

Having a problem in our studio right now ...
Recently installed Leopard on one of the G5's. Went to print this morning on our Epson 2400 and we cannot print tabloid - the page contents will clip at letter size. Same problem no matter what application we use ... InDesign, Acrobat, etc ...
We are using the latest driver from Epson.
Is there something we're missing here or is this a bug? TIA.

    Try this!
Q: Since I upgraded to Macintosh OS X 10.5 Leopard, some printer driver options are missing. What should I do?
A: Make sure you’re not using the Macintosh OS X 10.5 Gutenprint driver. Follow these steps to check if you’re using the Gutenprint driver and change it if necessary:
From the Apple menu, select System Preferences.
    Click Print & Fax.
If necessary, click once on your printer’s name in the Printer list. (You don’t need to do this if only one printer driver is installed).
If you see Gutenprint next to your printer name, go to step 5 to change the driver. (The Epson Stylus Photo RX620 appears in the example below, but you’ll see your printer or all-in-one name instead).
If you see only your printer’s name, you’re using the correct driver, and you can skip the remaining steps.
    Turn off the printer.
Click the button to remove the printer from the Printers list, then click OK.
Go to the Macintosh Leopard Support page and select your printer or all-in-one from the appropriate list.
After you select your printer or all-in-one, the web page will either inform you that the driver for your model is included in Mac OS X 10.5 or give you a description and download option for an Epson driver for your printer.
If the driver for your model is included in Mac OS X 10.5, go to the next step. Otherwise, download and install the Epson driver for Mac 10.5 before continuing with step 8.
From the Apple menu, select System Preferences. If necessary, click Print & Fax.
Turn on the printer. Your computer should add the printer automatically.
If your computer does not add the printer or if it adds the Gutenprint driver again, contact Apple for assistance. You may need to reinstall the Epson drivers provided with Macintosh OS X 10.5.
Note: To check ink levels, click the Utility button, then click EPSON StatusMonitor. The Supply Levels button will not show remaining ink levels for your Epson printer.

  • Problems Printing from Epson 2400 in Lightroom 2.3

I'm in the process of switching over from a PC to a Mac. I've gotten lightroom running and transfered all my photos over. But I'm having two big problems printing from my Epson 2400.
*8.5x11 prints are offset. The top of the picture starts about an inch lower than it should, and the bottom typically gets cut off.
*Lightroom refuses to print 4x6 prints. It says it's printing, and the paper feeds in, but then the printer just spits out a blank page.
I'm using the most current version of the Epson 2400 driver that I could find on the Epson web site.
[Update] I used iPhoto 9 to print out some pictures, and they came out fine. So this seems to be a lightroom issue or a conflict between the lightroom/epson drivers.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks!

Further update. It appears that I can print perfectly from another account on the same mac. But the account on which my catalog resides doesn't work at all. Could my catalog have been corrupted when I transfered my photos and catalog over to the new mac from the pc? Is there any way that I can fix it? (I have tried optimize and relaunch; no luck.)
I could -- as a last restort -- kill the catalog and reimport all my thousands of photos, but wouldn't I loose the keywords and adjustments?
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

  • Communication error with Epson 2400

I am trying to use my Epson 2400 printer with my MacBook and my MacPro, both using Leopard (10.5.5) and connecting by FireWire. When I try to print a photo from PS CS2 with the MacPro, I get a dialog box in the printer application stating that there's a communication error, and the job doesn't print. When I restart the printer and the computer, the same job will start to print, but halt partway through, again with a "communication error". If I then try to print again without restarting, the job won't even start to print. I have to restart the computer, with the same results all over again.
Printing works fine from the laptop using PS Elements. I don't have Elements on the MacPro or CS2 on the laptop. I also have not tried connecting the MacPro by USB, but I shouldn't have to do this.
    Any guidance?
    Thanks,

I solved this problem! After lots of searching I ended up at http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=5692363 Printer setup utility in Leopard which gave the tip to reset the printing system... I did, and then somehow the Epson printer showed up as a Bonjour printer (which I had tried to do in the Airport utility but it would not let me because the name was too short or something strange like that). PageSender Fax showed up also and I just printed a document remotely...
    Hope this helps someone else.

  • Another problem printing with Aperture and Epson 2400.

    Hi -
I posted this on photo.net a while ago and nobody could seem to figure this out. I've searched through here with no help either. Here is the original photo.net post presenting my problem:
I've been having a problem with my print workflow that started about 6 months ago but has only now gotten to the point that I really need to fix it.
My equipment: Epson R2400 with stock inks, Aperture (latest version), iMac 2.33Ghz fully loaded and updated. I typically print on Epson Premium Luster or Enhanced Matte (I change K cartridge accordingly).
Once upon a time, I had this workflow working perfectly. Prints were coming out exactly as I wanted them to, really better than expected. Then something changed, but it wasn't hardware. Somewhere along the line, I'm guessing in a software update, all my profiles changed. I typically do all my adjustments in Aperture, then in the print dialogs do the following:
+In the 2400 settings, I turn color management off, and in the Print Settings, I select my paper, switch to Advanced, and typically choose Best Photo or whatever quality I'm needing.+
+Then in the Aperture print settings I choose the ColorSync profile that matches the paper and quality I selected in the above Print Settings window, keep Black Point Compression checked, and I'm off. As I said - this has worked flawlessly up until recently.+
The one thing I noticed that has changed is the available profiles in Aperture's ColorSync Profile pulldown menu. It used to only show paper profiles specific to each paper and quality, ie. "SPR2400 PremLuster BstPhoto.icc". Now, it shows not only those specific profiles, but also more generic paper profiles, such as "SPR2400 PremiumLuster", with no quality specification.
The problem is this: When I now select the paper/quality-specific profile, as I used to do, the prints come out all washed-out and flat. It even shows this in the preview window. It's slightly better when I select these new generic paper profiles, but still not like what I had. This is true with both types of paper I use.
I've attempted all the usual fixes, such as trashing all my profiles and re-loading new ones from Epson, re-installing Aperture and Epson software, and trashing prefs. Heck, I've reloaded all software that even remotely related to photography so many times, I can't even count any more. Nothing - just washed-out, dead-looking prints every time. And it all changed when I noticed those new generic profiles mentioned above.
I did make one hardware change after I first started experiencing these problems. I went from a PPC Dual 2.8Ghz G5 to the iMac, but as I said, these problems first occurred on the G5 and continued with the new iMac.
    Any thoughts?

Well, you could dump Aperture only to find that a 2.0 came along with OS 10.5 and fixed your problem, who knows.
And I wouldn't call 6 months of not being able to print anything at all from Aperture jumping to conclusions. When I press Apple P in any other application I get prints that even unprofiled will come out better than Aperture. It's serious. Not just sorta bad. The ocean looks like sewage water- not just mildly unappealing- sewage.
The solution for us, I suppose, is to buy calibrator hardware. I guess anyone who is professional should have one of these (and I do not) but I didn't buy Aperture to export for printing.
As far as how to get Apple to acnowledge this... I don't know. It seems as though they are tired of hearing me talk about this. This is the first post of recent about this that hasn't been deleted by an admin. Who knows? I'm just tired of having to buy all the hardware and all the software that is all supposed to work together and then once you pay, you find that you're up the creek for prints.
Don't get me started, or I'll start talking about how they don't support my camera make yet (or ever).... (Sigma). As you can imagine, I'm already IMPORTING 16 bit tiffs from my raw converter. I guess I need 3 copies of the same shot to do business in Aperture for now. I need some mylanta.
    Otherwise, love ya Apple!
P.S. If you are looking for someone with the same hardware and problem as I, it's easy. Check out the print proofing podcast page on O'reilly "Inside Aperture". There's one there in the comments part (that I replied to). Others can be found on this forum.

  • Aperture printing on the Epson R2400

I use an iMac, Intel version. My printing is fine from Photoshop CS2. I am able to set all of the color management and print settings. However, when I try to set the printer settings or color management during the print phase of Aperture I get the message that "This panel is not compatible with your computer". Consequently, the prints are unacceptable. Does anyone have any suggestions regarding why or how this is happening and how I can get some control of the printer settings? Thanks

If you installed the driver from the CD included with the printer then you may have installed one that is not intended to be used with an Intel mac. Go to http://www.epson.com/cgi-bin/Store/support/supDetail.jsp?BV_UseBVCookie=yes&oid= 54861&prodoid=53540920&infoType=Downloads&platform=Macintosh and download the correct version of the driver for your mac and be sure to follow the instructions for removing the incorrect driver.
I hope this solves your problem but if you have the correct driver already installed, then obviously this is not the issue.
I am using a Dual G5 PowerPC and have not had this problem. However, I downloaded the ICC profiles that Epson provides and have had problems using them in Aperture. You can visit this post http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=782089&tstart=0 for a description of the problem. Unfortunately I have not received any help from this forum for the problem. If you decide to try the Premium ICC profiles please let me know if you experience the same problem.
Best of luck. The 2400 is a great printer. I am very pleased with the results I am getting, even with the profiles provided with the printer, but the ink cost is higher than I expected.

  • Help with Aperture 3 printing to Epson R1800 please

No I haven't got the wrong forum, I think I will get the best answer here. I am a fully paid up member of the Lightroom 2 club and like to use both as I am sure others here do.
I cannot get a good print from Aperture 3, there is always a slight magenta colour cast. Prints from Lightroom and CS4 are perfect! And yes all settings are correct, I am not a beginer at this. This is with custom Permajet paper profiles and with Colormunki profiles. And as I have said prints from Lightroom and CS4 using a digital dog test print are spot on.
I remember back in earlier versions of Lightroom printing to the R1800 was problematic and the only way to get round this was to go into the ColorSync Utility and and under Devices and then the default Epson Media type, change the Current Profile to the paper profile that you wished to use. It now seems that this is also the only solution for A3. Doing this will give me an identical print to LR and CS4.
Now was this a problem with Lightroom or the R1800 driver? I am using the latest driver V6.23.  Also I am using Aperture 3.0.2 and OSX 10.6.3.
I would be grateful for any help.

    Hi Ian,
I am glad to hear you're getting good prints from LR and CS4. I am not aware of any outstanding issues with print color management in Lightroom (the print path is pretty solid and conforms to the OS requirements, and will perform correctly as long as the driver also conforms to the OS requirements; many recent drivers do, some older ones do not).
FYI, I understand you feel that there are forum participants here who may be able to help answer your question with Aperture. Though that may indeed be the case, that does not make it an appropriate use of this forum. (As an analogy, many forum participants here are also well-qualified to answer Photoshop questions, but Photoshop questions should be directed to the Photoshop forum, instead of here.)

  • Setting up color space between Aperture, Photoshop and my Epson 3880

Hi. I use Aperture to do quick fixes and Photoshop for more complex edits and printing. I have setup my export preference in Aperture to the external editor as 8 bit ProPhoto RGB and in Photoshop my color space as Prophoto RGB. I use mainly Nikon RAW files. (Epson suggests using ProPhoto RGB to get the most out of the ink). Does all this make sense? As a sort of related question I don't suppose there is a way to export RAW directly from Aperture to Photoshop using the mouse right click and edit with Photoshop option..

Yes, your setup makes sense, but the fact you're asking implies that you don't know much about colormanagement. Thus although this part of your workflow makes sense, it might well be that you're making error in the printing process for example. Get yourself a copy of the 'Real world colormanagement' by Bruce Fraser, to teach yourself all about it. Furthermore, when working in ProPhoto RGB, I'd suggest working in 16-bit instead of 8-bit, to reduce possible banding in color gradients.
By export RAW directly to Photoshop, I believe that you mean opening the RAW-file in Camera RAW? No, there is no way of doing that directly, though Aperture does have an export master option, allowing you to place a copy of the original RAW-file anywhere on your hard drive.

  • Problem with Epson 2400. No color management settings

All of a sudden when I try to print from Aperture (or Photoshop) and I select "Print Settings," the window that opens only shows Printer and Presets. There is no third menu for Color Management or Print Settings — which are crucial to my printing.
I have downloaded and installed the latest Epson driver for Leopard. Still I can't get the full menus.
(No trouble on G4 PB with Tiger)
I would deeply appreciate any assistance in solving this problem .

  • 648max USB2.0 trouble with Epson 2400 scanner

It seems to be impossible to use an EPSON scanner Perfection 2400 Photo 2.0 with a system based on a 648max, the preview works but when you try to scan, you "loose" the signal. If you disabled the USB2.0 function in BIOS, all works OK.
As OEM we can easily change components, so we tried with another 2 mainboards (648max and 648max-F) with the same results, the bios is update to 1.4 version.
The operating system is WinXPHome so there is no driver update from SiS or Microsoft for USB2.0.
The scanner with the same cables and drivers (original CD or update from Epson web) works correctly with a VIA-based (athlon) USB2.0 mainboard, so we can say that the scanner is fine.
I'm sure there is a BIOS issue, because the 1.4 version talk about a USB ZIP trouble.
    Thanks for your urgent support.
    Pedro.

Silly question, but is the version of XP Home that you  use on the 648Max upograded to SP1? I dont think XP had 2.0 functionality til then.
Another thing you may want to try is to run the scanner through a powered hub, or even try a USB 2.0 add on card. If it works through a powered hub it may be a onboard power issue. If it works with an add-on USB 2.0 card then it may well be a BIOS or design issue.

  • Installing Epson 2400 profiles on Tiger

    Hi all,
i have a really stupid problem. Using aperture, i am getting the dreaded dark photos. I want to delete the existing profiles out of aperture and get a set of new ones from Epson's site. However, when i actually unzip the downloaded profiles, the installer does nothing! No folder with profiles at the location i specify. Am i doing something wrong?
BTW, also where in the Mac are the default epson profiles so i can go and delete them from there before installing the new ones?
    thanks,
    newbie

I got that PIM thing with my Epson printer.
As always, I tried first without it and found there was no need for it. The drivers are enough.
As a rule most stuff that comes with hardware, at least printers and cameras, is superfluous especially if you have Photoshop.

    Adios! Steve

    Steve --
Just realized that you have a G5 and not an Intel machine. My response below my still help -- I hope.
I use the R1800 quite extensively and have been extremely happy with the results, so hopefully this will help. When you said that you've reloaded the software, did you mean that you've tried to reinstall from the Epson disc that came with the printer? If so, do not do this. Move it to the trash if you can. I discovered this somewhat by accident when I first bought the printer -- Somewhere on Epson's site it says not to use the Epson disc for Intel Macs. Instead, download the latest driver from Epson's site for your computer and all should work just fine.
If this doesn't fix your problem there may be something wrong with your system that's a bit more serious. Others on this board can hopefully help with that.
