Aperture 2 - imported project in macbook from imac - no images!

Hi - I am very new to Aperture and have hunted high and low in all the forums to find an answer to this question but so far have not found one, so here goes:
I have Aperture installed on both my new imac and year-old macbook (both Leopard and fully updated). I have imported photos from my iphoto library (which Set Up Assistant migrated over from my MB) into Aperture on my imac successfully, choosing to move the masters to my Aperture library there because it has a much bigger hard drive. I have neatly filed them into projects (and into blue albums within those projects) and adjusted them to my satisfaction.
I then exported each project to the Desktop and then, being careful to close Aperture on the imac, brought the project onto the Desktop on my MB via my network. I then opened Aperture on the MB and imported the project from the Desktop. I could see that the project obviously had contents because of its size and it took a few minutes for it to be imported. But the project has no images in it!
I have checked that the images in the imac Aperture are not referenced images so this can't be the problem and I have no problem exporting and importing images themselves - just the whole projects.
I expect there is an obvious answer to this but I have tried in vain for several hours to find it so I hope someone here will be able to help.

Does Aperture 2 have a "Repair Database" when you launch it while holding down alt&command - that solves a lot of problems in version 3.

I would like ti know if and how to import my contact list from my iMac to my iPad so I have all the e-mail addresses.

Consder doing that migration on the iMac.

  • Aperture only imports some of photos from my camera card.

When I put my camera card into my iMac and it opens Aperture only some o f the photos are set to import and the wheel spins endlessly.  I have to manually import from the desktop to get it to work. This happens with all of my cards. Any solutions? I've been assuming that it's something to do with Yosemite. Sometimes it does import them all but more often it doesn't.  Ron

    Shot in the dark.
Did iPhoto launch? Check iPhoto and see if they in there.
Did you put it on the right side of the dock where the stacks are? Check in Documents.
A folder with a question mark usually means the dock item is no longer connected to an application.

  • Installing Leopard to Macbook from Imac

My son has a Macbook 15" white that I wish to upgrade to Leopard. The drive on his Macbook is broken and we don't feel there is a need to fix (USB Sticks and downloads are more than enough these days). I would prefer to format the Macbook and install Leopard clean because I am thinking of passing it on to his younger sister and buying him a new Macbook. I have the firewire and factory OSX Leopard. How should I proceed?
Macbook is currently running latest Tiger: 1Ghz 60GB HD 2Gb DDR2 SDRAM (also doing the weak and dropping Wifi thing).

Boot the MacBook with the "T" pressed. Soon you should see a yellow FireWire icon moving around the screen. Connect the MacBook and the iMac with a FireWire cable. Run the OS X installer on the iMac and tell it to install onto the MacBook.
One possible wrinkle: Is your Leopard disc black (retail) or gray (machine-specific)?

  • Import Labels / Tags / Ratings from Microsoft Digital Image?

I'm a new user with LOTS of pictures I've been organizing using Microsoft Digital Image. They are all tagged with labels and ratings, that it would be a REAL pain to have to redo.
Is there a way to tell Photoshop Elements 4 to import the pictures with the tags?
    Thanks!
    --Dean

    Jeffrey,
A quick Google search shows that Microsoft Digital Image and Windows XP used (incredibly) a proprietary set of metadata fields in photos:
    http://www.shahine.com/omar/WarningToYouIfYouUsedMicrosoftDigitalImageSuiteAndUpgradeToVis ta.aspx
    http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=6074850
There are a couple of suggested solutions to get the proprietary tags into industry-standard fields that other programs understand:
    1. Use Windows Live Photo Gallery (the one you download, not Windows Photo Gallery which is builtin to Vista). WLPG understands the old proprietary format. Import your photos into WLPG, and then add a new dummy tag to your photos this will write out the tags using industry-standard fields. Not clear if this will preserve captions, ratings, and date/time.
    2. Use exiftool, a free tool that is widely recognized as the most robust tool for modifying metadata. Unfortunately, the learning curve is steep.
I havent tried these solutions, but they seem quite plausible.

  • Transfering Aperture Files from MacBook to iMac

I have Aperture on both a MacBook and iMac. I want to transfer photos, as aperture projects, from my MacBook onto my iMac. I can't seem to make this happen. Currently, I connect the 2 computers, use the MacBook as an external drive and drag the projects onto the iMac desktop and then import them from the desltop into Aperture. Very, very slow. Any suggestions on how to send Aperture projects on the MacBook straight into Aperture (as projects) on the iMac. Thanks very much for any advice. Anthony
    iMac5   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

There is a very big difference in speed depending on whether you transfer projects with referenced images, or managed images.
Saving/exporting projects with referenced files is really fast! (but of course you need to reconnect the master files if you haven't stored them on an external drive while importing).
I could be wrong but I believe almost everyone here waits for a solution to synchronize a laptop and desktop seamlessly. since most user seem to have adopted the paradigm "laptop: use while/after photoshoot" --> "desktop: edit and adjust"....
my temporary solution is to use the same external disk in most cases for masters, and export import "approjects". It's tricky, but works as a temporary compromise.

  • What is the best method to import my iPhoto library from my macbook to my new iMac [27"]?

What is the best method to import my iPhoto library from my macbook to my new iMac [27"]?

You can copy your iPhoto Library to an external hard disk, USB flash drive, or other media (depending on the size of your iPhoto library). Then, you'd copy the iPhoto Library from that media to the same location on your iMac.
Using the Finder, navigate to your Home folder (or click on Go from the menu bar and click on Home). Open the Pictures folder, select your iPhoto Library and then from the menu bar choose "Edit" and then "Copy". Then navigate to your external disk, click on "Edit", and then click on "Paste".
Then, insert your media on the iMac, and copy the iPhoto Library from your external media to the same location on your iMac (the Pictures folder located under your Home folder).
Hope that helps, have a great day.

  • Exporting/Importing projects without Aperture?

Rather than wait for Aperture to export a project, why not just use finder to copy it?
    I am doing that now.
I right clicked on my Aperture library, Show package contents, and browsed to a location of a folder of projects(14 GB worth)
Dragged that to a Lacie FW800 external disk.
Unplugged it from the G5 DP 2 Ghz, plugged it into the MBP, fired up Aperture, created a top level folder, selected the folder and then chose "Import Projects".
Browsed to the external drive, into the folder, selected all 9 projects and let it rip...
Next test will be to merely copy a project into the library.

    Thanks for the info!
A green star for your efforts!
I am about to hit the road on our summer family vacation, but still have a bunch of projects I still need to triple-C ... cull, crop, correct and since I have proven the MBP is very capable, I decided to spend the 10 hours of drive time productive! So while my wife is driving I will be editing away and when we arrive at our hotel I should have 3-4 projects ready to export previews and upload!
BTW, I will be testing the only power inverter that Apple recommends, the Kensington Ultra Portable Power Inverter 150 (or so the Apple store claims:It's also the only product other than an Apple power adapter that you can use to charge MacBook and MacBook Pro notebooks. Now if I could just get wireless internet access while driving....

  • Importing Aperture 2.1 projects into Aperture 3

I have several Aperture 2.1 projects on my MacBook Air that have already been exported from 2.1. Is it possible to import these directly into Aperture 3 on my desktop or do I have to upgrade the Aperture 2.1 on the MacBook Air first and then re-export the projects?

  • I just find out many images missing from my most important project for no reason and don´t know what to do!

I was checking my SDHC cards to see which ones had already been downloaded to my computer and sudenly after I inserted one of the cards an anouncement poped out telling me Aperture had trouble importing many files... since this card had already been downloaded in one of my projects and had been working on some of the pictures I did not mind and took the card out and formated it in my camera (as I said before all the pictures had been downloaded before!) and I went to work on Apperture. When I opened the project I was going to work in I found lots of pictures missing!
I don´t know how to recover this pictures or if it can be done!
This is my most important project to date!
I will greatly appreciate any help.
    Alberto Ayala

    Hello Léonie,
I will try to be more specific:
I inserted my memory card and opened Aperture. I Pressed import and chose an existing project as a destination after choosing only the pictures I wanted to keep for imediate use (done this same precedure before). The importing procedure started and everything was "normal" but the "procesing" indicator (the spinning circle in the low left corner) never stoped (even the day after) so I quit Aperture, turned of my computer and took out the memory card.
Later I restarted my computer, oppened Aperture and saw all the pictures I wanted there, I even made versions and worked on some of them and everything was fine so far... The big problem came when I was cheking my memory cards -days later- to erase some of them for reuse and to make a back up copy of the full card in a diferent folder on the desktop of my computer (as I told before In Aperture only downloaded some pictures) and inserted the card that presented the continus "procesing" inconvinience: Somehow it created a link to Aperture and a notification poped telling me that some files where unable to download...
Since I had already seen and worked with the files in Aperture I thought the message was a mistake (the files had been imported ok before!) so I took out the card and reformated it in my camera (BIG MISTAKE!) and for my surprise when I wanted to work with this files and their versions and opened Aperture all of them were gone as If they had never been imported!
I opened the back up folder on my desktop just to find none of the files was saved there even though the downloading had run fine...
I tried to restore my Aperture library from Time Machine this morning but I think I made another BIG MISTAKE when answered to replace my library instead of keeping both... I found some files replaced, none of the diferent versions I had done, some files missing, some foulty tumbnails and God knows what else...
I´m very frustrated and disapointed and don´t know if there is anything I can still do to recover my files...
I don´t know if I should blame Apple´s Aperture or the card´s manufacturer for the origin of this problem but how can I trust my work to this combination of factors?
Thanks for your concern Léonie and have a good new year!

  • How do I copy Aperture app from iMac to Macbookwith different ID

how do I copy Aperture app from iMac to Macbookwith different ID ?

    Do you mean
" Macbook with different Apple ID "   ?
If you bought Aperture on your iMac from the App Store using a different AppleID, sign into the Apple Store on your MacBook with exactly that Apple ID.  (Use the "Store" menu. First sign out and then sign in with the other ID)
Then reload the "Purchased" page. You should see now Aperture ready for download.  Install it.
Then sign out of the store and back in with your regular AppleID on that Mac.  If you are notified of updates, you will have to switch between AppleIDs again to install the update.

  • Import Aperture 3.1 project into 3.2 library

I use a Macbook Air 1.86 Ghz Core 2 with Mac OsX 10.5.8 with Aperture 3.1 to stock and edit my travel libraries.
I export the travel projecs to an external harddrive, to import the projects into Aperture 3.2 on my Macbook Pro 17"..
But the older 3.1 projects can not be imported into the 3.2 version...
Last time i used a work around, .. installed an old 3.1 version on my macbook Pro, imported the project in a new library, updated to 3.2 and copied the library to my master library.. Quite tedious if you have to repeat this for every trip..
The 3.1 version on the macbook air can not be upgraded to 3.2 since it does not run on Mac Osx 10.5..
Is there a faster way to get my 3.1 project intot Aperture 3.2...
it seems logic to me that an update of the project is offered as soon as you try to open it in a newer version.. of aperture ?
    Thanks,
    Danny Stevens

I export the travel projecs to an external harddrive, to import the projects into Aperture 3.2 on my Macbook Pro 17"..
    Hi Danny,
Does it not work, to upgrade your exported 3.1. project to AP 3.2 by opening it in Aperture 3.2?
    I'd try the following wotkflow:
export the travel projects to an external harddrive,
connect the drive to your Macbook Pro 17"
open the 3.1 projects with Aperture 3.2 and upgrade them to AP 3.2
then import the upgraded projects into the 3.2. library on your MBP 17"

  • Problems importing the same clips from diferents cards  IMAC and CS5

Hi, I'm having trouble importing my clips recorded in The ex1, I'm using CS5 with an imac, The problem is that when I import the same clips recorded in two cards, the second card comes exactly with what is inside the first card.  It does not have what was originally in it, it just copies what was on the first card or vice versa.  But the original folder in my drive is intact with the two cards intact. The problem is when I import it to CS5 on IMAC.  When i import the video the imac makes a long file with all the clips an puts them together except the clips from the previous card, it shows but with the same video that is in the begining of the second card or the last clip recorded in the second card .I tried to import the clip again from the first card and it comes with the same video from the second card again.

    1) Don't know why this is happening. It may have something to do with
I downloaded from iCloud the same library I was working with
I'm not clear what procedure you're using here. Using a cloud for storage might change some file tags. Generally users I think keep the library on the same drive as the media, keeping the library backups on the system. There is no real benefit in keeping the media in a separate location. Often users will keep the library in the same folder as the media. It makes backing up using tools like Carbon Copy Cloner very efficient.
1a) This can be difficult to find as there sometimes is no obvious indicator. It might be a missing element in a compound clip, a missing or altered layer in a graphics file, a missing font, a missing effect. These will show up inside the item involved, but may not be apparent in the browser. A missing transition for instance will not be seen until you skim over the project or try to export it.
    2) The 43 MB is a small amount of optimized media. This never prevents relinking. The library is always looking for original media, or proxy media if you're in proxy playback. It never looks for optimized media. If it has it, it uses it, if it doesn't, it uses the original media. If you are using original/optimized playback, you must have the original files. The optimized files are not enough.
