Aperture 3.0.1 - Fix the crashing bugs now Apple!

I'm coming from Aperture 2 and was so excited about the new brushes features that I had to buy version 3 straight away. What a mistake that was!
I can't run this version for more than about 5 mins (while using the new brushes feature) before the application becomes unresponsive or crashes out. At present I can only use the app as an expensive photo browser; no editing.
I've sent off all my automated crash reports and had a lengthy telephone call with the apple tech support, who admit there are issues. They essentially told me to turn off all the new features like faces and the location stuff (which I had done already & hey great I'm almost back to the Aperture 2 feature set). The only additional thing I was told to turn off was maintaining previews, but I still get crashes just the same.
Why was this software released in this state? Better late than harm the company reputation. I have a 1st class degree in micro electronics and have been a full time software developer myself for the past 20 years so I feel I know a fair bit about hardware & the software development cycle.
Version 3.0.1 does appear to stop the mouse pointer freezing & jumping around when using brushes, however I feel that it may be crashing more for me when the app inevitably goes off on one of its never ending "processing..." task cycles. I've captured a few samples of the app in this state using the activity monitor and sent them off to apple support as instructed. So hey do I get a wage for being an Aperture QA/tester? The free Lightroom Beta is better product than this official Apple release.
I've asked for my money back, but since I've opened the box & installed (which you have to do to find out that the software is not fit for purpose) they are not all that responsive to the idea. If the software is unusable even a month after it's first release then I think I have the right to recovering my hard earned cash. What do yo think? The forums are full of people with the exact same problems so I'm certainly not alone.
I fear the constant crashing and resetting is going to corrupt my computer's hard disk, so I am therefore no longer going to use the Aperture product until there is another and more stable release.
Hmm I thought I'd feel a little better after a rant, but nope still frustrated.

My experience has been pretty good so far, but I felt I was lacking performance. I decided to up the game in my Mac Pro and installed a WD Velociraptor as a boot and app drive, and a WD 640 Black RAID-0 (two drives at the moment, a third going in soon) - boy is everything snappy and fast - even Aperture 3 is super-super responsive and quick now - love it.
However, since today, it keeps crashing. Most likely some damaged file as it keeps trying to load my "Greenland" pictures and somehow doesn't manage it. I've got about 10 seconds in which I can see and select other albums or folders, but I can not stop Aperture from processing the "Greenland" images. Does not matter if I run Aperture in 32 or 64bit mode and whether or not I boot into 32 or 64bit. Just now re-installed the 10.6.2 combo too, nothing is better...
It repeatedly crashes, only with this library, but hey, it's my main library and I'd like it to work so I can get rid of images I no longer need. I am so not doing any complete re-install so save those comments
Usually when one thing stops working, it's because something has changed in the system. I did install a USB "keyboard" in the form of a Belkin n55te, which I will now uninstall to see if it makes a difference.
Below's the crashlog if anyone of you techies can point me to something to try - would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks!
J.

Try resetting your iPhone.  Hold the on/off and home buttons together for about 10 seconds till the Apple logo appears.  You will not lose any data.

For future books you might consider doing what I do:  create a separate library for each book andcopy the photos for the book from your working library to the book library with iPhoto Library Manager.
When the book is completed and ordered burn the library package to a CD, DVD or external HD to archive it so it's available for editing and reordering at a later date if needed.

• RE: Firefox search box - manage search engines - get more search engines.. IT DOESN'T WORK , I now get 1000's of useless irrelevant results, PLEASE FIX THE SITES SEARCH NOW, IT'S COMPLETELY USELESS NOW

RE: Firefox search box -> manage search engines -> get more search engines..
IT DOESN'T WORK
I just want to add youtube + some others to the list of sites in the Firefox search box, I now get 1000's of useless irrelevant results, PLEASE FIX THE SITES SEARCH NOW, IT'S COMPLETELY USELESS NOW

Hi Kvoter,
What are you hoping for, firefox to display lists of sites you have visited or bookmarked ?
* it should be able to do that
* my firefox does that
I am only a fellow ordinary user of Firefox & XP, but maybe the problem is on your machine, rather than needing a fix from firefox. If you take a little time to read this you may be able to sort out the problems yourself.
I hope you do not mind me covering a few basics:
* the Search bar { <-- clickable link -- ] is designed to produce a lot or results, whereas
*the Location Bar is a lot more specific and may be set to include or exclude History & or bookmarks
If you are getting literally 1000s of totally unrelated results you may need to consider Is my Firefox problem a result of malware
Hope to hear that you have solved the problem, or a bit more detail about what still is a problem.
John

• Aperture was originally installed from the app store, now its asking for a serial number. how do i download the serial number or reinstall from the app store?

Aperture was originally installed from the app store, now its asking for a serial number. how do i download the serial number or reinstall from the app store?

The App Store version of Aperture will never ask for a serial number so something got confused on your system. Did you ever have a non App Store version of Aperture installed? Did you download the trial version for some reason?
You can try moving Aperture from the Application folder to the desktop and then going to the App Store. Log in with the same Apple ID you used to purchase Aperture and you should be able to download it again.
regards

• Can you help me diagnose my macbook crash log and fix the crash?

Hi  I have been using my macbook for 1 and a half years and only a month ago, it started to crash constantly.  3 days ago, the macbook couldn't restart after a crash, so I format the whole disk and re-installed snowleopard and got updates. But it kept crashing...
(not sure if another problem related to it or not: my superdrive (MATSHITADVD-R) also made creepy annoying noise everytime i boot the machine, but after the re-installment, the noise problem disappeared)
Here is the most recent 2 crash reports I saved:  Please help if you have any thought how to fix it... Thank you!!!

• Fixing the Msvcr80 bug ?

Along with hundreds (?) of other users, I too met a huge problem when I innocently allowed Apple to update my iTunes with the latest version (11.1.4).  But checking the Apple discussion forums, I found a recommendation by TuringtestII FIXED THE BUG COMPLETELY, per the procedure below:
Go to Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs (Win XP) or Programs and Features (later)
Remove all of these items in the following order:
o                                               iTunes
o                                               Apple Software Update
o                                               Apple Mobile Device Support (if this won't uninstall move on to the next item)
o                                               Bonjour
o                                               Apple Application Support
Reboot, download iTunes, then reinstall, either using an account with administrative rights, or right-clicking the downloaded installer and selecting Run as Administrator.
The uninstall and reinstall process will preserve your iTunes library and settings, but ideally you would back up the library and your other important personal documents and data on a regular basis. See this user tip for a suggested technique.
Please note:
Some users may need to follow all the steps in whichever of the following support documents applies to their system. These include some additional manual file and folder deletions not mentioned above.
HT1925: Removing and Reinstalling iTunes for Windows XP
HT1923: Removing and reinstalling iTunes for Windows Vista, Windows 7, or Windows 8
APPLE itself was completely unhelpful, but am indebted to TT2 for their excellent fix.  Time consuming, but worth the hassle once it's all done.

I have to make an explanatory note:
on my MAC the problem with screensharing occurs when scaling (Sreensharing / Preferences / Viewing) is off. So where is no need to delete the above mentioned file but to set scaling to "on".

• How long till you slackers fix the clipboard bug in firefox?

seriously im ditching firefox as of now for opera cuz no one seems to be interested in fixing the virtual private clipboard bug in firefox.
It is nothing short of infuriating & frustrating!!!!!!!! CMON U SLACKERS!!!!

Delete a possible user.js file and numbered prefs-##.js files and rename (or delete) the prefs.js file to reset all prefs to the default value including prefs set via user.js and prefs that are no longer supported in the current Firefox release.

• Will restoring my ipod touch fix the crashing problems?

I have an ipod touch 4th generation and every day I have to turn it off and on at least once because it starts to crash a lot. I can't be the time I want in an app because it crashes. I want to know if I restore the ipod and start it as a new one will fix the problem, or do I just keep turning it off and on every day until I get a new one?

do this first
reset all settings
settings-general-reset-reset all settings
now reconnect to wifi
settings- wifi- click network name- enter password - join
if issue persists back up and restore as new via iTunes
Peace, Clyde

• Why is it takes Apple forever to fix the appleeventsd bug?

There are hundreds of posts around the net about killing appleeventsd to fix the issue that prevents "open in finder" and it's been like that for months now... Why is it takes Apple forever to release a fix?
Everybody's laughing at Microsoft's updates amount, but at least they are fixing the issues...
Do you think Apple not aware of the issue? they don't think it's important enough? or they just don't care about technical issues in general?
Should we contact them directly about stuff like that or is it just a waste of time?
What's your experience\impression of OSX support?
Thanks!

• Frustrated with iCal 3--please fix the obvious bugs!

I read that Apple actually looks at these posts, otherwise I would suffer in silence. So here goes...
After adopting iCal for all of my calendar needs and being able to rely on version 2 to work, I upgraded to Leopard and iCal 3. Now, I am frustrated with obvious bugs and very worried about the integrity of my calendar data (which is EXTREMELY important).
Some things that do not work or seem to work sporadically in iCal 3:
1. Delete events/to-do's after n days. Nothing. And why is this option applied globally rather than to specific calendars?
2. Publish calendars upon modification. Usually works; sometimes quits for no apparent reason.
3. Reliable syncing (OK, maybe this is an iSync problem).
Other frustrations:
1. Very slow operation. Slow to create event, slow to edit event, slow to even change from month to month.
2. Very slow or even crashes when I double-click on an event.
3. I seem to need to double-click after I enter an event to fill in all the info I want.
4. No easy way to archive (and restore) old events.
Please, Apple, do not lose your focus on software excellence, as you pursue lucrative new markets! Your recent software releases (like iCal, iSync, AirDisk, TimeMachine, etc.) are beginning to remind me of, gasp, Microsoft. They almost work.
Excuse me for venting on this forum.

I have all of the same issues Jeff. What gives?? This needs immediate fix.
