I have a mac book pro with Boot Camp that also runs windows. I upgraded to Lion and now the mac side crashes/freezes periodically, especially iphoto. I am told by the genius' that I probably need to "clean" it and reinstall lion using the "recovery drive" which resets everything back to default and reinstalls the lion operating system. My question is will this also delete the "windows" partition drive and all that data too. If so that will be a huge pain in the ___ to back up and reinstall boot camp and windows. I want to shoot the lion.
There is no system like Acronis for the Mac platform. You can try using the buiilt in Disk Utility to create an Image of the complete Mac drive but I have found that this does not work very well as on tryiing to restore it gives errors sometimes.
You can use SuperDuper or Carbon Copy Cloner to create a bootable Clone of your system partition. But that is only for the System partition and not the complete drive.
If you use Boot Camp to install Windows on your Mac neither of those two programs will clone the Windows side.
Neither will Disk utility as Mac's can not create or write to a NTFS partition. So some other program is need for that. -
Why does safari keep crashing in mac book pro with retina display
I have a new mac book pro with retina display. I transfered all my data from my old laptop with time maching but now when I try to open safari it keeps crashing. Has anyone had a problem with this. All my software is up to date.
Hello psadana,
Thank you for the details of the issue you are experiencing with Wi-Fi on your MacBook Pro. I would be concerned about this too.
I recommend reviewing the full article but steps in the section labeled "Symptom: The network connection drops unexpectedly" specifically stand out to me for the issue you described:
Wi-Fi: How to troubleshoot Wi-Fi connectivity

Thank you for posting in the Apple Support Community.

I have a new Mac Book Pro with Retina, and Keynote crash almoset every time i use it?
I have a new Mac Book Pro with Retina, and Keynote crashes almoset every time i use it? I have the newest update.
Could you please help me? I have a lot of Keynote shows, and I have to use it now!!
I have saved a crash report, if you need it.Apple will not write back to you. Telephone using the Apple Care phone number appropriate for your country and ask for a refund, if that is what you want to do.
I use Keynote everday, it does exactly what it says it will do, that is if your NOT using Mountain LIon.
There are many applications available
I have used MS PowerPoint professionally for many years on both Windows and Mac, I can assure you it can do everything that Keynote can do and very much more.
Which software you choose depends on who you are and who you are presenting to.
for interactive presentations look at:
PowerPoint
Adobe Flash
Adobe Director
Camtasia
Dreamweaver (an HTML application)
for simple photo slide shows:
iPhoto
iMovie
Picasa
Photomagico
Adobe Lightroom -
I've been to Genius twice, rebuilt OS X Yosemite, had the motherboard replaced and some other components, but my 2013 mac book pro continues to crash inside Safari. I removed all extensions and add-ons and my computer still panics and crashes in Safari. Finally, I moved on to Firefox and behold, no more crashes. Just thought others would like know that Apple has its work cut out for them and possibly moving on to a different browser is a better solution.
Welcome to Apple Support Communities
Do not resize your hard drive in Windows with Disk Management or you will probably damage the partition table. Apple has designed a hybrid partition table so OS X detects it as GPT and Windows detects it as MBR, so now you have converted the hard drive into a dynamic partition table and you cannot start up in OS X or Windows.
See if you can use OS X Recovery. To do it, hold Command and R keys while your Mac is starting up, and try to reinstall OS X. However, this will not let you erase the hard drive, so you probably have to take the Mac to an Apple Store or reseller to get your Mac working again -
Can I edit HD on Mac Book Pro with FCP X without CRASHING often?
Model Name: MacBook Pro
Model Identifier: MacBookPro8,3
Processor Name: Intel Core i7
Processor Speed: 2.5 GHz
Number of Processors: 1
Total Number of Cores: 4
L2 Cache (per Core): 256 KB
L3 Cache: 8 MB
Memory: 8 GB
I keep having crash issues, FCP X on my 17inch Macbookpro is crashing on simple task like playing back a short video clip in HD from an iPhone.
and the People at the store were not able to tell me why.
Not sure if this is possibe,
Can I use RAID external drives to take off the pressure of editing on my macbook? You can back up your MacBook Pro with Retina display while it's in sleep mode (not turned off) if you have turned on Power Nap.
Also, you can back up all the Macs you want to one Time Capsule, always that you have enough storage on it. Also, you can back up the rest of your Macs in sleep mode if they are compatible with Power Nap. See > http://support.apple.com/kb/ht5394 -
Performance of Aperture on a Mac Book Pro with 128Mb VRAM
Hello, until now I'm running Aperture on a MacBook (the white one, with the Intel 950 integrated graphic chip) with 2Gb of RAM. It works slow, very slow as soon as I begun to use loupe or apply transforms. Also, the fans run full speed after one or two minutes of use.
After seeing Aperture on a 20" iMac I have seen that all the video related work is faster, so I'm no on the verge of selling the MacBook and purchasing a MacBookPro 15" with 128Mb VRAM (the cheaper one, you know).
Will be 128Mb VRAM enough for Aperture?. Yes, yes I know 256 will be better, but muy budget don't allow to go for it, better 2Gb of RAM. The minimun requeriments for Aperture is 64Mb VRAM and it works (slow, but works) without dedicated GPU.
Are anybody ussing this MBP with Aperture?
Best regards,
RafaI can't quite give you an apples to apples comparison, only an apples to oranges comparison. My images are from various cameras, and the largest megapixel count is 11MP.
I switched from a PowerBook 17" 1.67GHz / 1GB RAM/ 128MB VRAM (ATI Mobility Radeon 9700) to a MBP C2D 17" 2.33GHz / 2 GB RAM / 256MB VRAM. On my PowerBook I felt Aperture was fast enough for image sorting and metadata editing, but was jerky and slow for image adjustments (especially straightening and cropping), loupe, and full screen scrolling. Also, the PowerBook video card was not up to the task of switching views because it would occasionally get scrambled and then settle down when switching views. I'm VERY happy with the performance of Aperture on the MBP. Adjustments are smooth. Even loading the Masters from a 7200 RPM external drive seems much snappier on the MBP.
From everything I have read, VRAM is most important for anything graphical such as image adjustments, scrolling full screen, loupe. This makes sense to me, and it is why I bought a Radeon X800XT 256MB video card upgrade for my G5. Also, I have read that CPU and RAM are most heavily used for exporting and building previews. Again, this makes sense.
Good luck with you decision,
-Karen -

Illustrator CS5 crashes during startup in Mac OS Yosemite
Hello Adobe forum,
For the past few days I have been trying to fix my Illustrtator CS5 app but it keeps crashing during start up.
I got a new Mac Book Pro. I transfered all of my files and I did a clean installation of my Adobe CS5 Suite Design premium. (I made sure that it was deactivated on my first laptop too)
All the CS5 Apps work except Illustrator. I also made sure to update it on the CS5.0.2 patch, deleted the preferences folder, cleared the font cache.... uninstall - reinstall -again...and again, but no luck. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Below is also the error report.
Kind regards
Mike

Thank you -
I have a mac book pro running Lion 10.7.4 and every time I use Google Earth The computer crashes by lowering a black curtain and then asking me to hold the power button down until it closes and press the power button again to restart it. Can I fix this? It bugs me when I'm looking at real estate.
I really don't have an answer for that one. I guess that while trying to get things working correctly, I would use the most basic monitor I had which in your case would be the Eizon using the Thunderbolt port and adaptor.
When you boot into Safe Mode the startup is quite slow, but you should get the Apple logo and then the spinning gear below it (release the SHIFT key when it appears.) Then after a little more time you should see a gray progress bar appear below the spinning gear. When that disappears the computer will startup to a login screen. -
Applications in Mac Book Pro crash continuously
Problem description:
Applications in Mac Book Pro crash continuously: Safari, Lightroom, Finder, eMail, Notes, Aperture, Excel…. I may work a few mins and than one or more applications get stuck. Sometimes I manage to force exit from the app, sometimes the procedure is unsuccessful and the beach ball never stop spinning. Rebooting is than necessary. Noted this after upgratd to Yosemite OS, things went wrong especially after installing some net apps (Monity, Wifi Explorer, WiFi Signal, Network Radar)

Repair your drive and then do a Safe Boot at least once.
While not extremely low having only 20% free for an SSD can be an issue, again, running DU from another drive or Recovery would help.
When in doubt, clone, backup, and do a clean install. Setup Assistant will bring back what you want.
Should see this moved to MacBook Pro forum shortly. -
Mid 2010 mac book pro crashing too many times!!!
HELP! I'm basically fed up with my mac book pro crashing so many times in a day. I'm not doing anything tedious, just basic web surfing and music and some microsoft word/excel. I've read that someone recommended to run EtreCheck and paste the result here so anyone that knows how to read them can help me figure out what's happening!
Problem description:
My Mac book pro have been crashing lately. I’ve max out my RAM to 8gb. And the frequency seems to increased to few times in a day. I’ve uninstalled a software that I suspect to be causing the problem but it didn’t help.

my MAc Book PRO 13" Retina display will not update. It crashes every time I try to do an update. I have sent in the information on each update but so far nothing back from Apple.
